: September 11 attacks: Windows on the World chef on his near-miss on 9/11 — he stopped off at the World Trade Center concourse to repair his glasses
Michael Lomonaco escaped with his life on Sept. 11, 2001 all because of a detour on his way to work and a pair of busted reading glasses.
On that day, the New York City chef was headed to his job as culinary director of Windows on the World, the famed dining space at the World Trade Center. He took on the position in 1997 after an already impressive career that included stints at such iconic Big…

Hudson Yards Grill
This week I tried out Hudson Yards Grill in my endeavor to eat at all the new joints in the mall over there. Here’s how it went down:
Fried Oysters
These were great. Super crispy outside, like you’d find on good fried chicken. Tender, perfectly cooked inside. Almost like they were just steamed open. Get them.
Burger
Great dry aged flavor without being overly aggressive. I ordered medium rare…

For a change of pace, I sometimes substitute Cornish hens for traditional turkey on Thanksgiving or prime rib at Christmas. However, Chef Michael Lomonaco's fab recipe -- adapted from "The 21 Cookbook: Recipes and Lore from New York's Fabled Restaurant" -- is great year round. And unlike larger birds, these 1-pound hens cook in about 40 minutes. Click here for the recipe.

Pandemic Echos hitting these 4 major Industries
The restaurant industry has been a devastating scene as many local businesses have closed permanently. Still, while some remain open there is a sparse light of hope that businesses will return to normal in the near future. COVID cases have rocked the industry and the unpredictable rise still seems to be climbing. Chef owners such as Michael Lomonaco in New York City has laid off 200 workers due to the pandemic. There is a tight window of opportunity for workers in the industry, but still as the Chef mentioned in an interview, “Staying focused on the future helps me get through the day” there is hope in preparing for a better tomorrow.”
Schools seem to have been hit the hardest by the pandemic. Especially when one person is infected it becomes a risk of others being affected. New York City for example shut down the public schools when 3% of tests for Covid-19 turned out positive. Mayor Bill de Blasio mentioned in an interview with the public that even though schools are temporary closed, the standards of public safety will be better than they were. It comes to no surprise that industry workers are also hard hit by the spread of the virus. The profession of Professors has declined per number of job openings from 14,247 to 8,651. There are more downfalls of schools closing than people have thought before, many professors don’t have students to tend for. This hardest hit industry needs hope to continue to improve standards and become able to be open to the public once again.

Office jobs are non-existent with closures of many businesses. There seems to be a lack of motivation to also open offices back up because many businesses have been forced to have employees work from home. This state guidance has declined many occupations in the industry, most notably office receptionists. Job openings have declined 35% from October 2019 openings of 17,826 to October 2020 openings at 11,627. Accounts payable specialist jobs have decreased even more at 37% from similar October figures. There isn’t a significant demand for these professions whilst the pandemic has changed the way people do business outside of their home.

Commercial businesses have also been largely impacted by the spread of the virus. According to a recent figure the average growth of the industry has decreased 5.5% from 2015 to 2020. It seems to show that lease companies are having a difficult time getting businesses to continue staying amidst the panic. Work at home protocols have also added to the decrease in businesses extending contracts. There isn’t much motivation for businesses to return if customers are going to avoid the virus by staying at home and shopping elsewhere.

„Windows on the World”: Electricianul eston din World Trade Center care a fotografiat nemurirea
Era electrician la restaurantul „Windows on the World”.
„Inadvertently or not, [Konstantin Petrov] left behind a ghostly record, apparently the only one, of this strange twentieth-century aerie, as though he’d been sent here for this purpose alone”
A făcut-o. „Când s-a angajat la World Trade Center toți eram: «No way!
Când ieșea, primul avion a lovit clădirea.
“It’s a big lesson to all of us”, Don said. “Take picture now of what we have”.

John Anzalone
John Anzalone, 90, of Forty Fort, was called home to be with our Lord, Thursday, May 28, 2020. Born in Pittston, November of 1929, he was the son of the late Angelo and Concetta (Lomonaco) Anzalone where he grew up in West Pittston.
John was a longtime employee of the American Silk Mill, Plains. He worked all the way up until he was 80 years old. When he wasn't working, John could be found sitting on his front porch, smiling at those who passed by or taking long walks around the town collecting one man's trash that he turned into his treasure. He loved coming home with a wagon full of "goodies."
He was a kindhearted soul who would give the shirt off of his back to help someone in need, whether he knew them or not. Some of his lifetime passions include roller skating, ice skating, bike riding, fishing, bowling, flea marketing, rebuilding and fixing bicycles for those in his neighborhood, and being the family "jokester" always ready to make someone laugh and smile … and let us not forget, he LOVED Kellogg's Cornflakes. He always said that a cup of cornflakes in the morning and one before bed kept him alive for so long.
John was a family man. He loved his family and held them near and dear to him. He took great pride in raising his children and being there to help raise not only his grandchildren but to see his great-grandchild be born and grow in his home. He leaves behind his loving children: Sandra and her husband, Wendell Bass, of Forty Fort; Deborah and her husband, Michael Eyrich, of Reading; Barbara Kellar, of North Carolina; John Anzalone Jr. and his wife April, of Ashley; his grandchildren: Suzanne and Jamie O'Gorman, of Forty Fort; John (LJ) and Jordan Anzalone, of Ashley; great-grandchildren: Amy and Emma; his sister, Connie A. Anzalone, of West Pittston; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many more friends and family including, but not limited to, those in North Carolina, New York and Kansas. John was preceded in death by his wife, Arline Anzalone; his granddaughter, Samantha O'Gorman; brothers: Cataldo (Kie), Samuel, Joseph, and Angelo Anzalone; sisters: Susan Perfilio, Rose Goodman, Mary Tomashefski, Grace Gazey, Catherine Bosco, and Carmella (Millie) Anzalone; and his son-in-law, Chuck Kellar.
Due to the restrictions due to the pandemic, a private service will be held at the Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with the Rev. Dr. Michael Stine officiating. The interment will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
The family would like to personally thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart as well as his loving doctor, Dr. Nicole Balchune, for going above and beyond to provide such loving care. In lieu of flowers, please reach out to his daughter, Sandra Bass, to send an expression of sympathy/condolences.
