The Mission While Out in Nature Is To Be And Enjoy (Katmai National Park & Preserve) by Mark Stevens
Via Flickr:
The Mission While Out in Nature Is To Be And Enjoy One just has to savor the creation and beauty all 'round It's an amazing gift to stand and see that wildness Yes, waking up today is a blessing, but this is the icing on a cake It's good to have friends, to share memories and time And remember it's not about the gear or toys gathered. Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one morning in Katmai National Park & Preserve while on a hike up the side of Dumpling Mountain. This view was looking to the east-southeast across Naknek Lake to ridge lines and mountain peaks of the Aleutian Ranges. I angled my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward in order to capture and use the mountainside for a sweeping view across this setting in the national park. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3.

The Secret Lives of Commercial Fishermen
Corey Arnold photographs Alaska’s largest and most threatened salmon run—and the people who depend on it
Clockwise from top left:
Photo 1: The tail fin of a Sockeye Salmon caught in a gillnet while commercial fishing in Bristol Bay, Alaska.
Photo 2: Lindsey Bloom, captaining a Bristol Bay gillnetter out of Naknek, Alaska.
Photo 3: Arnold hired Billie Delaney in 2012, after getting to know her on other crews. She’s “one of the toughest people I’ve ever worked with,” he says. The 30-year-old now runs her own boat.
Photo 4: An abandoned building in Bristol Bay becomes a makeshift home in June and July for commercial Sockeye Salmon fishermen.

possible posts coming!
It's so nostalgic to be using a desktop to be writing on my tumblr. Modern music in the background, my damn hands not used to the keyboard, and the sun. I've always wanted to have a desktop of my own. Thanks to my boyfriend. He made it possible. This comes to know that I am very much used to mobile texting with all the auto correction. I am going to need to get used to an actual keyboard that is VERY much different with using apple's laptop. Here I am on a Friday morning and I am feeling great right now. I found out that somebody I was inspired to write by unfriended me on facebook. Not exactly the first somebody that I have looked up to did that to me; which was to hurt me. Also, why would I care? The last time this happened, which was not the first, was when I played with somebody that called me a fucking trader after a basketball game. I was fresh out of high school. No. My second year. I always tell this story to those that are close to me. I made this team named Jordanettes. I named us. I also created us. Toksook came to my town to participate in a game that would probably fund raise kids in school or whatever. There was only 2 or 3 in the team and they asked me to play. I said yes. We had no subs. They did. Haha. You can guess who won by the way she said trader. I went for a high 5 after the game. She was sitting by her husband and she did not high 5 me. Her husband saw my eyes tear up and he goes, "good job, Lore". I never spoke to her again, but then Naknek happened and I was told after the season was coming to an end where I was sent home that she was drunk and worried about my whereabouts that I think I forgave her. This past weekend, she walked on the floor saying she HAS to be in my team. Again, I had to let that go. What I learn from those that I looked up to only teach me to be supportive to those that may look up to me too. But then again, I hope this continues to build my character (as they say). I want to keep writing, but boss wants me to order shit on amazon. Toodles :)

I grew up in Naknek, Alaska and bought my first bike when I was 10 years old with the money I earned cleaning up the lunch room at our school. I’ve always enjoyed cycling, but in rural Alaska the opportunity to bicycle tour didn’t exist.
When I moved to Anchorage I joined our company’s bicycle team to help raise money for various community programs. Through that I met a lady at work who described the tours she’s been on and even loaned me a map of the Oregon Coast.
I searched the internet for bicycle tours and came across the Bicycle Touring Pro. The first video I watched was your Pacific Coast ride. From then I’ve been watching your videos, bought your book and took note of the gear you use.
My first tour was Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons with Adventure Cycling.
Now 3 or 4 tours later, I have a Titanium Bike with couplers so I can break down my bike so it’s easier to travel with when flying from Alaska. As I write this I am starting on my first self-contained multi-week ride from Eugene, Oregon to San Diego.
I appreciate you, your candor, and honest conversation and information about bicycle touring. You really helped me step out of my comfort zone and into a huge world of possibilities.
Above is a picture of me and my Carver Mega-Obese Fatbike on Portage Lake outside of Anchorage.
Thank you for sharing your excitement and confidence.

We made a little video for 'Whisky & Blankets' the other day...
For those of you who know me well you'll know that I'm not super comfortable being in music videos 😬 but it was a lot of fun hanging out with the guys from Naknek Design and singing this song a million times in front of the camera 🎥
This is by far the happiest song I have ever written haha and I'm looking forward to sending it out into the world real soon and then following it up with some of the most depressing songs I have ever written.. ♡♡

Letting the Mind Wonder While the Body Wanders (Katmai National Park & Preserve) by Mark Stevens
Via Flickr:
A view looking to the east-southeast across the waters of Naknek Lake after finishing the Dumpling Mountain Trail. This was along the lake shoreline at Brooks Camp with the ridgelines and peaks of Mount Katolinat and Mount La Gorce off in the distance. With this image, I decided to not angle my Nikon SLR camera downward as I really didn't feel that sweeping view across the lake would add much to the image. The mountains and the mostly cloudy skies had the drama that I felt best captured this setting that afternoon. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3.
