something that i think about a lot is that nyad and nya both merged with the sea - not separate parts of the sea, the whole sea, together.
so, when the ninja froze nya in order to de-merge her in crystallised, how would they know that the being they were trying to resurrect was nya? how would they know if a few drops of saltwater belonging to nyad weren’t clinging to nya’s form, and weren’t brought back with nya? how would they know that the being they were seeing was nya, wholly and truly nya, with no influence of the woman who also inhabited the ocean?
no, there’s no way they could’ve known.
and so there’s a chance they could’ve brought back both spirits. nyad and nya controlled the same body (of water) at the same time; why would that change when they got brought back?
when the water of nya’s body returns to flesh, when the staff has absorbed her power, jay runs over to his yang. he looks into the eyes he’s only been able to see in his dreams for a year, and they’re unfamiliar. they’re a mix of nya’s normal grey and a blue too vivid to seem human - a mix of nya and nyad, the two spirits who sacrificed their lives and shared the body of the ocean, and who will continue to bear the sacrifice by sharing their human body instead.

This is a minor thing I noticed, but in "The Call of Home," when we meet Nyad, her eyes are blue, with white pupils, meanwhile Nya's eyes are purely white, no pupils.
Tumblr media
I wonder if that could represent anything... I'm not sure what, but something. Her facial markings are also different, but that one makes more sense given in the flashback we see she wasn't human, so those COULD just be her natural Merlopian markings...

Brainrotting over FSM and Nya dynamic, a traumatised immortal child soldier and a woman that is almost identical to his sister/mother figure that became the sea, and like, Nya became the sea too and got saved n shit and then FSM realises that he could have saved Nyad with something he created but he created it too late dhdhfhhssksffggdgsdgs
And then he's just crying while Nya hugs and comforts him

Just want to rant a little about Nya's form holding ability while she was the Sea.
In Seabound right as Wojira is defeated, Nya talks about not being able to easily maintain her shape, saying that it was what she was. And I'm actually going to ignore the "what I was" part and what it means, because even though Crystalized did follow through with that and made her a dragon as her season debut, the end of Seabound did not.
This post is about the physical technicalities of her holding her shape, not the meaning of her forms. (Though I talk about the meaning a teensy bit because reasons)
Anyways, back to my rant, at the way end of Seabound we see her in her humanoid form swimming with the whales, apparently having no issues with keeping her shape.
Notice the difference between the two scenes? In the scene where Nya was speaking with Jay, she was above water, and struggling to hold her form. Whereas at the way end of Seabound, she was in the ocean, within her element, having no struggles at all.
Now let's skip a year later to Crystalized. When Nya reverts from her dragon form to her humanoid form, she has no apparent struggle holding her form. (Which also does show that the dragon form for her was something more mental than physical, signifying her disattachment from her actual self)
Whereas when Nya goes up to the Lighthouse, we notice her begin to loose her shape a minute or two in, struggling to get back. Which is noticeably shorter and more severe than when she first became the Sea. Because at the end of Seabound, sure, she does a slight ripple that shows her instability, but it is slight, and Nya is able to keep it in check. Whereas in Crystalized, when she does that ripple, it quickly becomes severe to the point where she just becomes a puddle.
And then, later at the Monastery, we notice Nya struggle to hold her shape yet again. And this time, she starts to loose her shape a lot faster than she did at the lighthouse.
Which in that case may also be due to how far she is from the Sea. Because at the Lighthouse, she was actually pretty close to the Sea. Whereas at the Monastery, she was much further. And due to the increased distance between herself and the Sea, her connection becomes more fragile, causing her to not be able to hold her form as well.
(Then that also goes into the question of what would happen if Nya lost her form, and whether she'd just rematerialize into the Sea or stop existing. But moving on from that)
Now let's briefly talk about Nyad. Because compared to Nya's year as the Sea, Nyad has been the Sea for millennia. And if a year as the Sea drastically affected Nya's ability to keep her form while away from it, imagine how that millennia affected Nyad's ability. She might not even be able to go away from the Sea.
Not that she'd probably want to. Because honestly, her being in the Sea that long probably affected her ability to remember as well. We notice that Nya actually remembered pretty easily, but when she tried to talk to Nyad about Nyad's identity, she really did not care. Meaning that Nyad probably doesn't have much capability to remember who she once was anymore. Which also means that she won't have any motivation to ever leave the Sea.
And even though we know that she appears to in a way be more in touch with her former self, being in a form closer to what we guess used to be her Merlopian form, this slight closeness seems to show that her identity as the Sea is more closely tied with "Nyad", than Nya's identity as the Sea is tied with "Nya".
(And now for a bit more headcanony type shit, but Crystalized may have possibly not been the first time Nya remembered who she was. For all we know, there may have been a couple other times something triggered her memories, but before she was able to follow them and try to come back, she got distracted by whales or something and just left. And based on how the longer you are in the Sea the less of a chance you have at remembering and going home, Nya probably had more instances of this in the first few months after becoming the Sea, which slowly dwindled down as more time passed)
Anyways, rant done. That's all. Just had to get all this shit out there.

The Demon and The Sea
~1000 words
Mystake. It was a cruel name, but one she deserved. She didn’t exactly feel like she was living up to her purpose. It was like something inside her was broken, and she wasn’t sure how it had gotten this way. But she couldn’t help it. As she looked around herself she saw only things which made her feel… wonder. Something which she had never felt before coming here, and something she never wished to end experiencing.
She had separated from the group to ponder to herself, and she knew exactly where she wanted to think. She had seen it as it had formed and she ran to it now- the place where the water crept onto the land like a thin translucent blanket. The rocks shrank in size as she approached it, and soon she was at the bank- the pit of trillions of rocks which led to the sea. She stood at its edge, a feeling of nervousness spilling over her underlying elation. She decided that to experience the landscape as best as possible, she would need to take the form of those it was meant for. In a moment she had transformed herself into a body which she had taken more times than she would care to admit. This version of herself had no horns, but instead long flowing black hair which seemed to embrace her as it fell around her shoulders. Her skin was lightened from its unearthly pitch black, and the purple glow of her eyes faded into non-luminous irises. Around her new body sat a new set of clothing. She tried something different every time she transformed. Today, she was attempting pants. The long skirts that most of the women seemed to wear were certainly easier to conceive, but the novelty which this new option afforded her was well worth the attempt. A loose pairing of white canvas shirt and slacks graced her figure, and she quite liked the way they felt against her skin.
She reached out one of her newly morphed feet into the strange expanse. She could feel as the ground shifted and wriggled beneath her. She smiled at the sensation, new and exciting. She quickly brought the other foot forward to be fully immersed in the experience. She tried walking around on the land, and found it a thrilling game to try and balance as she moved. As she neared the water she could feel the breeze carry a new temperament as well. It was salty and sticky, but fresh and cool. It was overwhelming the number of sensations for just one oni to be taking in at once. How was it possible that she could ever be expected to leave things like this behind, let alone destroy them?
Mystake very slowly lowered herself to sit down on the sea of tiny particles, now feeling the shifting grains in between her fingers. She sat for a while; a long while. She wished more than anything that she might be afforded the opportunity to sit in this place forever, endlessly drinking in the atmosphere of this unique new world she had found herself in. As she thought, the water began to rise up in front of her. It rose taller and taller, until crashing very near to her. She reached forward to feel the droplets as they splashed forward. They were small and cold. The way they scattered made the feeling quite invigorating.
As the water again receded, a figure was left in its place. She lay on her stomach in front of Mystake, her body seemingly entirely made of the liquid which had been there moments before. She wore a wide grin on her face and an eye more curious than Mystake’s own. Her hair spread out in every imaginable direction, and the insides of her body swirled around in a hypnotic dance.
“I haven’t seen you before,” she mused. Her voice was light and airy, a new sound which was fascinating to listen to. “I’ve been watching all the ones he makes… and you’re not one of them.”
Mystake felt no need to retreat as she sensed no threat from this being. She briefly changed her appearance back to her natural state as a way of explanation. “I’m not one of them.”
The newcomer’s eyes grew wide. “Oh! What a neat trick!” she clapped. Mystake quickly changed herself back, feeling a strange discomfort in her native form. “Why do you do it?”
Mystake thought for a moment, the answer still unclear to herself. “I’m not too sure. I guess I just like it better,” she shrugged.
“I think I like this one better too,” her companion agreed. “Where are your friends?”
Mystake pulled her knees into her chest. “I’m not so sure they’re my friends anymore.”
Her visitor seemed unconcerned with addressing her emotions, but questioned them all the same. “Why?”
“They want to stop the boy.” Mystake explained.
“He’s so interesting, isn’t he?” The woman of water sat up, crossing her legs in front of her. “He’s displaced quite a bit of the ocean. I’m not too sure that he knows what he’s doing.”
Mystake lifted up a handful of the particles below her, watching as they slipped between her fingers. “Still, I can’t help but like what he’s ended up with.”
“The change has been awfully exciting!” The visitor giggled as she talked. “I must say, I am interested to see what he comes up with next!”
Mystake smiled, her eyes slipping over to the horizon. “Me too.”
“Well, if you’re going to be here a while, perhaps we could be friends instead.”
The offer intrigued Mystake. She didn’t know much about the being in front of her, but she was endlessly interested in having someone to share her discoveries with. “What’s your name?”
“I have no chosen form nor name,” the figure responded. “I am one with the sea!”
“Well, certainly there’s something I could call you,” Mystake pressed.
Her new friend paused for a moment, leaning back. “In a past life, they called me Nyad. You could call me that if you’d like.”
“Alright then. It’s nice to meet you, Nyad.” Mystake smiled.
Friendship was such a riveting thing to feel quite so strongly.

Hi! I wanted to ask you. Can you draw my fan character(original character) Jaynin (Jaynet?) He, no matter how venomous my AU is, where ninjas change places, in general Jay changes with Nya, she is a lightning master, and he is a water master. in general, can you draw it?
He looks like this, he has blue and slightly long shoulder-length hair, blue eyes, gray skin, he has painted marks with drops of💧water (something like this) green clothes, dark blue pants and red shoes, he also has gold there, like Nyad and also a helmet, and his trident is orange with light green, something like patterns together, there are also emeralds, they are as beautifully blue as turquoise. On another art, you can draw Jay and Jaynin(Jaynet), where they are ordinary and where they merged with the sea, like Nya and Nyad. And on another art, where my character and Nyad met, or both blushed. If someone draws well and if it's not difficult for you, you can draw my original character.
I would be very glad and happy🤗🤗🤗if you would draw it, you can put tags that will be at the bottom.
He also has ears like Kalmaar and Benthomaar, he is a Merlopian, and Nyad, also this necklace, on the left and right are blue, and they have patterns from the waves in the same color as the front and also on the left and also in the front in the same color as the front, it's okay if you don't understand, oh what am I😅I want to wish you good luck✨🛐.if someone wants to draw my character.

Why isn't Benthomaar listed as a Merlopian on the Ninjago Wiki? He may not look like many of the ones shown in the show but he resembles whatever type of Merlopian Nyad was.

Oh! That's an intriguing lore drop! So it is possible if done within a time limit, as seen in Crystalized. But since Nyad wasn't able to, she can't separate from the sea now. Huh.

A Tale of the Wind (Intro, A Tale of Water) - A Ninjago History
Thanks to @fantaghoul for letting me use their post to fill out my own Morro Headcanon
Disclaimer: I have not watched Dragons Rising - however, I have hear that it tends to retcon lore from the OG show as such I will be sticking to the original lore and expanding on that. Also, there will be a slight retcon of a detail concerning The First Master's control over water and wind and his creating of the Ninjago Realm. I'll make a separate post about my retcons at another time for now I just wanted to finally get this work out there. Now, without further ado.
~~~~~~~
Ninjago.
That's what he would call it and this would be where he would primarily reside. It had been so long since he had returned to the Realm he had created and the world beneath the waves was thriving; but, they had forgotten him.
In his time away - creating other Realms, defending the First Realm to keep all the others from falling into ruin - the seven tribes of Merlopia (two of which were Serpentine) had forgotten him. He knew that some part of them knew him, some part deep within but on the surface, his creations did not recall him.
The First Master understood that this was impart due to Wojira, the Grand Guardian he had left to watch over his work, but like the Grand Guardian of the First Realm, who now called himself, The Overlord, this Guardian as well had turned against him.
And yet, he could see it in how her eyes would flicker between red and blue, in those moments he saw remorse. Wojira was a good Guardian, but she had made mistakes and now it was beyond her power to stop herself.
The Merlopians fought bravely and with him there they fought twice as hard. The First Master, however, did not wish to see Wojira killed so he called together his Protectors - Fire, Metal, Wind and finally Water, Water who was the first to be given mortal form.
Water love the world beneath the waves and it had been the proof of this love that convinced the First Master to give her mortal form. She was called Nyad, Nyad of Merlopia, Nyad who would be the first Master of Water. Above and below the waves Nyad fought to protect her husband, her daughter and the people she had been made a part of; then appeared, the Master of Ice, still immortal, and without speaking a word Nyad knew.
There were many options and Nyad knew that the First Master would never ask something so desperate of her, she knew that he would exhaust every option and still never ask for her sacrifice and that was why she made the choice herself.
Working with the First Master, working with her fellow Protectors, Metal, Fire, and Wind, the five of them were able to construct two amulets, one of Wind (the Storm) and one of Water (the Flood). These would be able to tame Wojira and perhaps one day the former Guardian would be able to return to her post but for now sleep was more favorable then death.
Nyad, to ensure their success, became one with the great ocean of Ninjago and soon the battle came to an end. The Merlopians constructed a great temple far and deep beneath the waves to honor Nyad's sacrifice and to house the sleeping Wojira. As for the daughter of Nyad, her mother, mind lost to the sea would observe her naming ceremony from a distance, unaware of her connection to the baby girl who would one day make water dance.
The baby girl would be named Nya, a naming tradition that would be passed down for generations to come.
On the surface, though the Realm was his creation, the First Master asked if the Merlopians would be willing to share the Realm with another. The king of Merlopia gave his terms and there was agreement. The war had tired them and all they desired was peace in isolation so the First Master created the land of Ninjago a fair distance away, a distance that would satisfy the agreement.
One day the Merlopians would remember who created their Realm.
~
The First Master found Wind, Fire and Ice at the edge of the newly created land, the three Protectors contemplating the sea.
"Thoughts in isolation tend to double back on themselves" said the First Master in greeting.
The three turned to the First Master and bowed, greeting their master.
"Rise and please speak clearly what is among you that I may be of aid."
The three Protectors looked between themselves, then Fire spoke, "Master, you gave us life and great purpose and even among the Protectors, you gave us three another gift each for use when the time is right. You gave me quick foresight that I may be a guiding light in dire circumstances."
"You gave me far sight," said Ice, "and with this I was able to see the end of this battle before you called Nyad for the creation of the amulets."
"And you gave me", said Wind, "the gift to effect destiny and yet as I am there is only so much I am able to do. Master, you said that all of us, each one of your Protectors would one day take on mortal form and in doing so we would be able to do things that we cannot yet do as we are. Nyad has returned to her element and her power will one day awaken in her daughter. Wojira is sleeping and I ... I wish to stay apart of Destiny's Trio, I wish to remain where the wind meets the water. But, now I feel what Nyad felt when she asked to become mortal and though I wish to stay I feel a pulling calling me. Master, you who command every element, I ask of you, make me mortal that I may fulfill my destiny."
And the First Master smile a gentle smile one that had the slightest touch of sorrow. He gave his creations freewill, all his creations in every realm and for every generation; but freewill ment that one had the ability to choose good and the ability to choose evil. Destiny's Trio never kept things from each other and so the First Master knew that Wind made his request in full knowledge of blessings and tragedies that could one day be.
"It will be done" said the First Master.
As they were, the Elemental Protectors could travel between Realms without any aide and so they followed the First Master to what would one day be called the Wailing Alps, the tallest mountain in Ninjago that would one day house the Temple of Wind. From the mountain the First Master and his Protectors entered the Realm of the Cloud Kingdom and there they were met by the Master Writer, a man who had been a scribe when the First had left the Realm, who now rejoiced in having lived long enough to see the First Master's return and welcomed him and his Protectors, knowing why they were there.
The Master Writer was honored to have been remembered and further honored by the First Master by the task he would be given - to care for and teach Wind in just the same way the King of Merlopia had been tasked to do for Water when she became Nyad. And so with great power, Wind was given mortal form, like Nyad had been made merlopian, Wind became a being of The Cloud Kingdom clothed in the robes of a scribe.
"Now," the First Master said, "what is your name?"
Wind thought in silence as all waited with baited breaths, then, he spoke.
"My name, ... is Morro."
This would be a name passed down for generations to come.
~
Freewill. The freedom of choice, the choice to be good but also the choice to be bad.
It would be several thousand year after the first Master of Wind was laid to rest that someone would enact a change, the tragedy the First Master hoped would never come to fruition. Fenwick could hardly be called a scribe when he first came upon the thought as he contemplated how others rejoice in the return of the Master of Wind from his mission in Ninjago. Every Master of Wind, since the first would be trained to the level of a Master Writer, then sent down to Ninjago when the need was at its most, to lessen pain, to alter tragedy, to defy what the scribes of the Cloud Kingdom had written. Fenwick despise the thought that his people rejoiced that someone would overruled their writings, the words of the Cloud Kingdom were absolute but the Master of Wind could always find ways to change the winds of fate. Unfortunately, Fenwick was not alone in his arrogance but he would be the catalyst for a horrific age in the Cloud Kingdom.
In time Fenwick grew his skill, in time he climb the ranks, in time he gathered his hidden forces and then they struck. The Master of Wind was found dead. It was an accident many concluded but generations would pass and as numbers dwindled people became wary of the Family of the Wind, something was after them and no-one wanted to be caught in the crosshairs, yet soon even the Family of the Wind feared stepping out their own door but better to be seen then be found dead in the dark. Time passed on and the Master of Wind had become long forgotten in Ninjago, often times the Family of the Wind contemplated escaping to Ninjago but something always stopped them from leaving just yet.
~
Her name was Morria. She lost her father as a baby, her older cousins when she was five, her friend when she was twelve and her mother when she was seventeen. She was twenty-three, the last of her family when she met the man who would be her husband, he was an orphan and his name was Arnon, two years later they would be married, two years after that they would have their son, a small child who, by Arnon's dying wish, would be named Morro.
Morro had a remarkable memory and each day as Morria would braid Morro's hair, to hide the natural streak of green that marked him as member of the Family of the Wind, she would teach him all she knew about the Cloud Kingdom, about their work as a scribe, and about their family history but there was only so much she could teach him. It had become to dangerous to live in the family home of the Family of the Wind, Arnon, while he had lived, had worked hard to find them a home where they could be safe; Arnon's death had been a sacrifice to keep Morro and Morria safe.
Once Morro's silky black hair had been given braids to hide the green, Morria would teach Morro how to manage the task himself by teaching him how to hide the green in her hair. This was how they kept each other safe, Morria would not let Arnon's sacrifice be in vain, she needed to learn as much as she could then she could teach Morro herself after the two of them escaped to Ninjago. Morria kept close her and Morro scrolls of life, as Arnon's had already been laid at his tomb, after all, you cannot write a life scroll for the dead. As to Morria's scroll, her parents and potential guardians were nolonger around to write in it and she feared what would happen should she open it herself, but, Morro's scroll was written in with the care, respect and wisdom of a true Master Writer.
There was peace, a balance and that of course was when tragedy struck again. Morria had been contemplating how she would retrieve Arnon's scroll, a scroll that she had full rights to but hadn't claimed for fear of being caught; Morria wanted to bring it with her when she and Morro escaped to Ninjago but as it was, it was not ment to be.
It was night when Morria bundle up Morro that he wouldn't be recognized; in her bag was her and Morro's scrolls along with some quills and ink, a change of clothes, some rations and the only three books her family had been able to keep from their old home - it was time to go to Ninjago. Into the night they went but half way through the city, Morria knew something was wrong, though her hood was up to obscure her face, she could tell that the shadows had eyes and they watched her like starving wolves. Morria slowed her steps and quickened her turns, she could feel the wind in her heart begging to be used but she would not reveal herself so quickly, she could not reveal herself so quickly, Morro was only five and had no power of his own and with his and her scroll so close at hand, Morria, could not take the risk. Part of her begged that that the monsters in the shadows would turn away from her but she knew now what she didn't before, she would not live to see Ninjago.
In her angered fueled sorrows at all the tragedy she had been forced to bear, at knowing her son would be an orphan, the wind began to roar, to unleash the full extent of the sorrows of the Family of the Wind, and in the wind, Morria, could hear her family as they fought back. Taking advantage of the chaos, Morria used the shadows like the Ninja her ancestors were trained to be and made her way to a small orphanage.
"Morro," Morria said as she placed him on the steps and handed him his change of clothes and part of the rations from her bag, "I have to go, but I need you to promise me to remember everything and do everything I had taught you. Do you understand?"
"You're not coming back," Morro asked.
It was a cruel thing that a child so young had to be prepared incase they became an orphan but Morria hadn't shielded Morro from the possibility.
"I'm sorry", it was all she could say, and, "I love you Morro."
With one last hug as they held each other tight, Morria hear her son whisper, "I love you, momma". She let him go, knock on the door of the orphanage, and Morria dissappeared into the windy night.
~
There was a part of Morria that had wished she had taken the chance to escape with Morro but she could hear on the wind that the possibility of escape had ended the moment she had been spotted; for Morria, there was only one thing left to do, the monsters in the dark had been hunting her a long time but the moment she died none but her family would be able to open her scroll, she knew this, but as to her son's scroll, she would hide it that none could harm him with it. Her task completed, Morria faced her attackers far away from Morro's scroll and as she took her last breath, the wind combed through Morro's hair like a mother guiding her son to sleep.
~
The first Morro had heard of his mother the next morning had been a grim cold voice that had concluded that her death had to have been destiny. It would be many years later when the nights would nolonger be filled with Morro's silent tears, as it was, it was four months after he had become an orphan, that the monsters had found him. He could not see their faces; they kept their voices gravelly, their grip one his arms was tight to bruising and their nails sunk deep into his skin. Morro had always been a careful child, he had to be, but somehow, someone had seen him playing with the wind.
Morro, though frightened, struggled fiercely in their grasp. The whole group was near the outskirts of the Cloud Kingdom as many did not know that the dead woman with green in her hair had been a mother, as such, they who had killed her and caught her son wanted the matter to be over and done with. Still, Morro struggled and slowly the wind began to kick up, he had to live, for his ancestors, for his father Arnon, and for his mother.
"My apologies child," said a grim cold voice that didn't sound sorry at all, "it's just destiny."
Then, just as death was about greet him, the wind gave one last push and Morro was falling. On the wind he could hear the grim cold voice speak, "thrown out, ah, it's just as well, the fall will take care of him itself."
Perhaps one could say that Morro was halfway to his True Potential but he gathered what control he had of the wind and ruffly costed down the Wailing Alps, past the abandoned Temple of the Wind all the way to the bottom of the mountain, landing with a tumbling head over heels crash. There he sat in shock and soon began to cry and the wind cried with him. The night came and then the day and with no more tears to be had, Morro begain to follow the wind. It would be seven months before he'd find rest at the Monastery of Spinjitzu.
So if Nya's power were what was keeping her ocean-ified, doesn't that mean Nyad ALSO still has the element of water? So technically there's TWO masters of water???
okay a non harumi related post but,
Nyad's story is so genuinely upsetting. She's been the ocean for who knows how long, and helped Nya try to find peace with their inevitable future. How strange do you think it was for her to find someone just like her, finally finding someone who she could talk to and spend time with.
Only for Nya to find herself near the surface and remember who she was, leaving Nyad alone again.
And Nyad doesn't even have a chance to remember herself, all the people who knew her are long gone. No one can help her remember who she once was.
And then Nya is gone, and of course Nyad is happy for her.
But she's alone again.
