Made this one a while back, and wasn’t planning to make any of the others afterwards. Something happened though. They all get to have two tails because it looks cool and otherworldly and I said so.

I used to despise this girl. Mostly because I found her digging minigame to be impossibly annoying. But now that I’m decent at the game and did a little digging into the mythology behind Kaguya, I’ve grown a lot more fond of her. I like to think she was close friends with Waka, and he knew exactly what she was, but didn’t tell her because he felt she would be happier not knowing (gods know he would…)

An absolute goober. Kurow was my favourite partner in Okamiden, and the second I laid eyes on him I thought oh. Now THIS is where the plot begins. Poor kid, I think his character arc was one of the best handled. I intentionally made his patterns similar to Waka’s, just simpler, but he gets to be yellow because I finally figured out how to make it work and he deserves to have features completely unique to him. Also, his tails are shorter than the others’ because he’s younger. I think he’d be just a bit bigger than Chibiterasu.

The fourth and last Moon Tribe member we see in-game. Man really got the short stick of life huh. I feel like he could’ve been a grandfather figure to Kurow if things had gone better.

Also he has a floating sword hat. Yeah.

Okami art that isn’t just straight fanart yippee!

Yami my favorite silky guy. An okamiden(technically) au where Yami is reincarnated as a poncle after its defeat to Amaterasu, it only retains a very small amount of power in this form. It is forced to join Chibiterasu as Sakuya thinks that it may help it be nicer or somethin. It works but Yami won’t admit that to anyone. It calls Chibi “dwarf star” as a nickname and refuses to help him out, mostly using him as just a way to get around without having to actually walk.

It’s very silly and I love it very much (I mess up it’s pronouns a lot when talking about it so it’s pronouns are more it/he at this point but whatever)

Komachi is a moon tribe oc that came out of pure hyperfixation ngl. She’s an inventor and is the person to make the arc of Yamato, working with Yami to make it a “perfect gift” she thinks Yami is a god at first, but when she finds out it’s not, she doesn’t care. Low key kinda evil ngl? I haven’t had her in my head for too long so that plus my limited knowledge of moon tribe lore results in this spotty personality/lore

She’s technically part of the poncle yami au as well :)

So uh... remember that Lancer crossover I was working on for Spookami? And how I put this tag on the original post?

Well that's actually happening for real now, because our GM is not only running a oneshot separate from our main campaign this weekend, but also very encouraging of letting us pull expy nonsense. Joke's on him if he think I'm not committing to the bit, though, so have the portrait I drew for the "Pilot" section of my character sheet.

Most refer to Waka in this AU by his callsign "Onmyōji". Those that don't usually just call him a pain in the ass.

I know people want another Okami game, I do too, but I just realized something that the story could potentially include.

So Kaguya is based off of the story of Princess Kaguya. She’s the princess of the Moon and it’s people, and the game never says it but I feel like it’s the same there.

Based on what Waka says in game and reading some Traveler’s Guide scrolls, it’s safe to assume that a very large portion of the Moon Tribe was killed by demons. Therefore that means that the Lunar Realm is overrun by them (and some of which, we’ve probably never seen in the first game, so we won’t know how to fight them right away)

Basically, I want the next Okami game to start off with the Celestial Plain being the tutorial area, like Kamiki to Agata Forest. Then somewhere in the middle Waka finds out that what is assumed to be the last member of the royal family was sent back to the Moon. He clearly gets upset by this, as the princess didn’t have a way to defend herself on her way up there, and drags Amaterasu with him to see if they can help her. Bonus points if Issun is there for a visit and spills the beans that it was Ammy that helped Kaguya get her ship (this will make Waka more upset btw).

Kaguya is not only revealed to be fine, but (as per Capcom protag rules) she has an entire armory of plasma guns at her disposal. So now Ammy has a gun too.

The final boss is the guy who unleashed the bigger demons unto the universe. For drama purposes I want that guy to be Waka’s brother. For more drama purposes, Issun has to nearly die during the battle.

I also want more Oina stuff, but that’s just a me thing. Totally not important.

Moon Tribe headcanons nobody asked for because I went digging through my old blog for my 10-year-old posts and I can't stop thinking about them!!

First, I think they are related to the Celestials at least by a common ancestor. Their relationship is never explained, but it doesn't seem like coincidence that both of them have gold hair and pointy ears and live in space.

Personally I like to think that the Moon Tribe are the descendants of Celestials who were exiled ages ago. This plays on the exile of Tsukuyomi to the night and of Wu Gang/Katsuura Otoko to the moon as a punishment in their respective legends. I also think a lot how "A Resolute Person", one of Waka's themes, is also a dark, tense version of the Celestials' Theme...

Since then, distanced from Takamagahara, they lost much of their divine power, but maintained their longevity and some magic. They became obsessed with developing mechanical technology, and missing their lush homeland, used it to reform the barren Moon into something more habitable. Then they turned their gaze to the earth/Nippon.

AFAIK the timelime on anything the Moon Tribe did was never established. But here's how I imagine it. Before the calamity, the Moon Tribe came to Nippon and birthed the civilization we now see the ruins of. They learned how to harness lightning, built things like Tsuta Ruins and the Daidarabotchi. The aesthetic of the dogu and Clay Dolls is consistent with other stuff we see from the moon--and also the missiles Yami launches in its fourth phase.

Which brings me to the next part: the Moon Tribe at least partly created Yami and other bosses/demons. The art book describes the interior of the Ark of Yamato as a sort of lab where these beings were being raised. To what end? To wage war, perhaps--against the Celestials, either as an act of revenge, or for some reason that resulted in their exile to begin with--or perhaps against the faction down in Nippon. The demons were either created or found, and then augmented with the Moon Tribe's technology. Eventually war broke out. Yami, bound to the Ark, and the augmented demons take over the machines and wipe everyone out. The Moon Tribe can't stand up to their own creations. Orochi escapes in the chaos. Only the four known Lunarians survived--Sugawara had already been sent to Nippon in exile by a corrupted lunar government. Baby Kaguya was sent away Superman-style to save her. Kurow is... doing something. And Waka (unknowingly, somehow?) escapes on the Ark. Orochi, grown stronger, finds the Celestial Plain via the pull of the Ark and the power it shares with the demons.

Whatever was done to create Yami was brutal. It resents the Moon Tribe, the gods, those who can create, for it cannot. It only knows destruction, death with no divine respite. With all others dead, it knows Waka escaped, and its priority is the extinction of the Moon Tribe.

When Kaguya returns to the Moon, she finds a desolate waste, littered with strange metal and stone. The machines that helped maintain life on the Moon are broken, the silver gardens turned to dust. Only her rocket still glows. Sugawara never had a chance to meet her, to tell her what she is and what she would find. But in the ruins, an unimaginable story reveals itself to her. Maybe she finds her new life as its keeper and chronicler.

Do you have a favorite Okami character?

Yes, I like Waka the best. Other than him I love Ammy and Issun for main characters. The three of them are such a funny dynamic, and that's why I really wanted a sequel where they all could team up on the Celestial Plain.

I know it's not technically canon, but Kurow from Okamiden was fun that way too! Him, Chibiterasu and Kuni were really cool. But I loved all the teammates in Okamiden!!!
