PHOENIX WRIGHT: ACE ATTORNEY (2001)
Do you realize what this means? When he heard the gunshot, it was still Christmas Eve!!!

I love all of these and I love that they are official.
Gumshoe, Cody, and Lotta not knowing what a Wii is in the first one.
Edgeworth getting Will's autograph in the second. And Max Galactica doing a trick for Maya and Pearl (lemme headcanon it as the anime version he's a much more likable character there)
Desirée protecting Ron from Gumshoe (leave my boy alone, Gumshoe!) in the third. With Mia talking with Godot and Iris teaching Bikini how to play on the wii!
I love these so much!

I just think it’s so silly and funny that in ace attorney, the defendant can go “I’m fucking guilty” and the judge can be like “nice, we’ll put in you in jail then. BUT if any DELUSIONAL, I mean, DETERMINED defense lawyer wants to give it a shot despite the defendant’s plea, I mean we’ll hear them out.” It makes no sense, it’s not supposed to, and I love it. AND it happened twice with Lana and Miles.
Literally like this:
Defendant: I’m guilty.
Phoenix: nuh uh
Defendant: stop
Judge: wait let him cook though

the funniest thing to me about the narumitsu experience of phoenix wright: ace attorney is how gradually it's revealed that both of them are kinda insane for each other? because at first you come to understand that holy shit, edgeworth is into phoenix? with his "unnecessary feelings" and his "wright, wright, wright" and "you in particular i cannot ask to do this" and "i didn't want you to see me. not like this". like okay so he's gay and homophobic towards himself. gotcha. and wright seems kinda cagey about the whole thing, not really answering maya's questions about what's the deal with him and edgeworth, so maybe it's just one-sided? only for wright to come out (ha) swinging with "let me defend you" and "i'm the only one who knows the real edgeworth. i'm the only one who can help him." and "that's why i became a lawyer". and then of course, to top it all off, edgeworth professes his guilt to the court and phoenix just. immediately starts building his case again. because he doesn't think edgeworth even ACCIDENTALLY killed his father. insane gay behavior on both their parts.

Back in September my parents got me a Nintendo gift card for my birthday so I could buy some digital games for my Switch. Nothing was really inspiring me so I just left it on my account for a couple of months.
Then, last week, I was looking at my wishlist to see if anything was on sale and I noticed the Ace Attorney trilogy had 70% off.
Now, I don’t even know why that was on my wishlist in the first place. I think maybe I’d seen something on my dash that vaguely captured my interest? So I did a bit of research (I asked on Bluesky and Discord if the games were worth getting) and a few people said yes so I decided to risk it.
I fell in love with the game mechanics almost immediately. I love hunting for clues and I always try to figure out who did it when I’m watching any sort of crime show.
So I was merrily playing along and already feeling rather fond of the disaster lawyer protagonist when suddenly
I didn’t know this was a GAY crime solving lawyer game.
My investment went up from 100 to 200%. There’s a whole childhood friends to rivals to friends/lovers story going on in the background and I am living for it
The protagonist became a lawyer just as a way to reconnect with his crush.
I finished the first game in a weekend and I can’t wait for more. I did not expect to fall so hard and fast for a game.
I kind of want to read fic but I should probably finish the rest of the games first so I don’t accidentally spoil anything for myself
