Today we celebrated India’s 75th Independence Day with pomp and pride at Presidium School, Rajnagar. A lot of these students are now an indelible part of my life. Every day I walk into that school and teach, no, and TRANSFORM lives. Of course, there are ups and downs. Not every day is good. Sometimes, I make mistakes too. And then I feel bad. But then I remind myself “If Christ could take the cross with a straight face, then why must I feel sad? There will be off days but showing up every day is important.
However, reader, most days are good. Most days bring me deep satisfaction and fulfilment. The faces of students glow up- especially of 9th graders when I walk into their class for a substitution- and that’s all the reward I need, the salary is a bonus, really.
We also must do some administrative tasks. And I can’t say I love that aspect, but then, which job has only fun elements and none of the drudgery. Video editors have fun while recording footage but then editing is a drudge. Same with photographers. Sportspersons have lots of fun when they perform in front of many people, but most days are a hard grind. And I am a teacher, I have fun when I am in the class- tackling a text- but then attendance register, notebook-correction, and examination paper setting is a drudge. But it is okay. I have chosen it. I voluntarily chose this, and this is what brings me contentment. Not everyone can say this. Thank you, Universe!

The truth is that Aaron Stewart is a liar.
You wouldn't think so, at first glance. He makes sure of that. He is always wearing a genuine smile and is quick to double down if challenged. He has years of practice of walking without a sound and can make a meal last longer than it should. He is friendly, but not enough for people to feel the urge to get to know him. He is inobtrusive, but not enough to be deemed "antisocial" or "weird". It is a very slippery rope to walk on, and he has fallen down both sides more than once. It hurt every time. So he learnt to be better.
Aaron Stewart is a liar. He may not look like one, but that is what makes him so good at it. Because in truth he is sad and he is hurt and he is angry. He is so unbearably angry all the fucking time. He is angry when he sees another homeless person on the streets and he is angry when he sees a kid his age holding the hands of both their parents and he is angry when he sees more and more unpaid bills mounting on the kitchen table and knows that he will be losing the temporary roof over his head soon. (Again.)
(Sometimes he gets so angry he hears the wind howling in his ears and feels the pavement crack beneath him. He quickly learns to hide that, too.)
He learns to hide it, but he doesn't learn it fast enough.
Someone in the orphanage found his hidden stash. Someone found the food he has been hiding away for months, and they stole it. Aaron does not know who it was, but it is probably better if it stays that way. He already can feel the hot ugly anger rising inside of him and he knows he won't be able to hold it down this time.
So he does the other thing he has learnt to be good in. He runs.
He runs behind the orphanage and leans against the grey concrete wall and - for a single moment - allows himself to be honest.
It happens without his say. He has as much control over the flying dirt and thundering air as he has over his feelings. The ugly ones. (Anger against his father who abandoned him and hatred against the families who never take care of him like they are supposed to and defiance against the universe for daring to take away his mother from him before he ever got the chance to know her and-)
He doesn't notice the girl until she is shaking his shoulder. He slowly turns his head towards her and she takes a nervous step back. She knows Aaron in the same manner most other orphans do: friendly enough, keeps to himself, always docile and obedient. Seeing how his features contort themselves into a mask of hatred and fire seems almost obscene in comparison. Like something she wasn't supposed to see. (She probably wasn't).
He takes a deep breath and everything stops. The air is silent, almost eerily so. When he turns to her again, the deep-seated fury is gone. For a moment she wonders if the cracks she can see behind his smile are only in her imagination, or if they've always been there and no one's ever bothered to look. She wonders if her memories are exaggerating the deep-seated sadness she saw in his eyes.
So she tells him about the Magisterium. And for the first time she realizes that the smile he is always wearing isn't as genuine as everyone liked to believe. For the first time she realized how beautiful his eyes were when he laughed.
@ashpkat hope you like it?? never wrote for magisterium before but Aaron is so fascinating, so have some pre-canon <3

[CUISINE] The Stench of Fear - Tourists Still Avoiding Sushi Bars
via Sights Unseen [CUISINE] The Stench of Fear - Ryuusei's Incident Still Haunts Sushi Bars, Deters Tourists The infamous Ryuusei's Sushi Bar shootout may be over ten galactic standard years old by now, but Citadel's sushi restaurants still feel its paralyzing sting on their business in the present. Results from a survey conducted last year by Citadel Restaurant Association and Partnership cast light on the grim reality. Staff and management reported the most drastic decline in their restaurants' popularity and some even had shuttered over past years. "Assassins make an attempt at a Spectre's life in a restaurant and the Extranet zooms in on the sushi bar as the butt of their joke! People didn't jeer at the victims like this when Cerberus razed a whole food court up at Presidium, did they? It's a sick, sick galaxy out there." wrote one anonymous restauranter in the survey. Yet not everyone believes it's just the incident behind the decline. Jomun Gemlen, a veteran restaurant reviewer with reviews published from The Citadel Post to Omega Herald, believes it is really twilight for one genre of cuisine in the galactic scene. “Earth’s time on the plate is over. Every combination of rice and fish in a roll has been seen and eaten. The mouths of the galaxy desire novelty!”, Jomun commented to us, “What one should really keep an eye out for are what’s coming out of Camala and Erzsbat. Today it might be a bowl of raksha hash from a street stall, tomorrow it’ll be ribs and t-bone steak at Presidium!” Whether the spicy and notoriously health warning-labeled cuisine out of Kite’s Nest will win over the galaxy’s tongues or not remains to be seen.

Also caught between my general preference that Miles and Kaidan mostly figure things out for themselves and the fact that they have like 5 category 7 intricate ritual moments a day and half the crew is like oh my God we need to just lock them in a room together
In fact I think initially no one even realizes and someone's like hear me out. I think you two need to bang. And Kaidan's just like already taken care of 😎
...on the other other hand. Joker being like oh my god Shepard your shoulders look mildly relaxed did you and Kaidan finally bang?? Vega owes me money

Fyodor Lukyanov: Contrary To Western Claims, The BRICS Has An Ideology And Here’s What It Is
The South Africa summit showed how the non-Western bloc will evolve over the coming years
— By Fyodor Lukyanov, the Editor-in-Chief of Russia in Global Affairs, Chairman of the Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, and research Director of the Valdai International Discussion Club | RT | August 30, 2023

A banner depicting the logo of BRICS is seen during the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa © Sputnik International
Speaking at the end of the BRICS summit in Johannesburg, last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reassured those wondering what the acronym would sound like after the addition of six new letters: "Everyone is in favour of keeping the name the same, it has already become a brand". Whether he knew it or not, the diplomat had made an important point. The brand has taken on a life of its own, even though as an entity it no longer exists.
has given way to a new form. Continuing the metaphorical theme, we can say that the BRICS of the original model have transferred the franchise to another creation.
Until this month, BRICS was a group with the possibility of transforming itself into either a more or less structured organization or instead becoming a free-form community. The second option was chosen.
BRICS enlargement has been talked about for a long time. But discussions seemed pointless because there were no criteria for it to happen. The structure is deliberately informal, with no charter, procedures or coordinating bodies. Thus, classic diplomacy has been at work – with direct negotiations, without the involvement of international institutions – to reconcile national interests. The only platform where decisions are taken is at meetings of the leaders of the member states, and if they agree amicably it works. This is how the new states were invited — it was discussed and decided.
Of course, the selection caused confusion — why them, what is the logic? But there was none, it was just agreed.
This is a momentous event. It is not about the number and quality of the host powers, but about the choice of development model. Until now, BRICS has been a compact group whose members, for all their differences, have been united by their ability and willingness to chart an independent course, free from external constraints. There are few states in the world that can boast of this — some lack sufficient military and economic potential, and others already have commitments to other partners. But the five more or less fit the bill. For this reason, BRICS was seen as a prototype of a structure that would be a counterweight to the G7 (behind which there is a rigid Atlantic unity). Hence the expectation that BRICS would deepen and institutionalize interaction by creating common structures and gradually become a unified force on the world stage.
But such calculations were unfounded. Not so much because of the differences between the countries, but because of their size, which does not imply self-restraint for the sake of anyone, including like-minded people. The idea of giving BRICS a clear anti-Western bias was also incorrect – with the exception of Russia, no member now intends to pursue antagonism with the West. All in all, the BRICS-5 would have remained a promising and very symbolic prototype without the prospect of becoming a working model.
The forthcoming BRICS-11 – and beyond – is a different approach. Enlargement is hardly compatible with full-fledged institutionalization, because it would be too complicated. But there is no need for that; the expansion of the community's borders is now self-evident. Criteria are not essential. So what if Argentina or Ethiopia are in debt and have almost none of the things that were originally considered to be the hallmarks of the BRICS? But they, and probably some other candidates in the next wave, are expanding the sphere of non-Western interaction.
The other parameters are conditional.
China is the main proponent of enlargement. The new configuration is convenient for a power that promotes the slogan of an unspecified "common destiny" without commitments. The BRICS franchise is more in line with global trends than the previous type of BRICS. A rigid framework is unpopular; most countries in the world want a flexible relationship with maximum scope so as not to miss opportunities.
This new approach is acceptable to Russia. It is unrealistic to turn BRICS into a battering ram against Western hegemony. But it is in Russia's interest to expand the sphere of interaction by bypassing the West and gradually creating appropriate tools and mechanisms. In fact, it is in everyone's interest, because hegemony no longer warms anyone's heart, it only limits opportunities.
Success is not guaranteed; enlargement may lead to the automatic addition of new countries on a formal principle. But in general, the soft separation of the West and the non-West is an objective process for the coming years.
Thus, the popularity of the BRICS franchise will grow.
