My top 5 Prussian palaces & Residences are mainly in Potsdam, 40 minutes from Berlin, Germany. 1. Chinese House: located in Potsdam in the Sanssouci Park. A small garden pavilion created in 1756 for smaller court gatherings. Reopened after 2 years of renovation, it is shaped in a form of a cloverleaf: a circular hall and there are small Chambers. Ticket price: 6€ or a daily combined ticket for all the palaces in Potsdam ( 22euros) 2. New Chambers: located in Potsdam in the Sanssouci Park. Impressive palace with two different moods: - the western Wing is made of four reception halls ( jasper hall, Ovid Gallery, Porcelain Hall and blue one) which are amazing. A really must-see while in Sanssouci. -the eastern wing is composed of guest rooms (bedrooms and living rooms). Ticket price: 6€ or a daily combined ticket for all the palaces in Potsdam ( 22euros) 3. Charlottenburg Palace located in Berlin is composed of 2 palaces. The new wing with its long enfilade of 13 rooms ends with a huge Porcelain Room and a Chapel. The new wing has magnificent interiors like the Golden Gallery. A really worth-visit while in Berlin. Ticket price: 12€ each or 19€ the combined ticket. 4. Picture Gallery located in Potsdam, in the Sanssouci Park. If the facade is relatively simple design, the interiors are adorned with white and yellow Italian marble, opulent gilding and sculptures. The paintings were mostly acquired for this building. This is the oldest Royal Museum still in use in Germany. Ticket price: 6€ or a daily combined ticket for all the palaces in Potsdam ( 22euros) 5. Rheinsberg Palace, in the mark Brandenburg When entering the palace you feel like being in a different world. I loved the rooms in neoclassic and Frederician rococo styles. It was the house of Prince Henry, Frederic the Great’s brother. Ticket price: 10€

"And no, it’s not because I’m jealous,”
spoiler alert: he’s very jealous.
thank you to @oldfritz and the anons for the asks! as always more rambling under the cut!
gilbert’s jealousy mixed with his tendency to shut up about anything that’s bothering him to the point of passive aggression; meeting with frederick’s ‘i do what i want’ streak and his own tendency to be rather insensitive to other’s feelings at times did not meld well at all. there was no communication going on between either party in the beginning apart from lowkey jabbing at each other and yeah it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows over at sanssouci during peacetime.
gil in the 18th century, especially the early-mid years, still hadn’t completely shaken off his tendency to doubt himself, a habit that he’d formed in his duchy years. as such, he struggled with feeling insecure and out of place among frederick and his friends at times. like he knows he’s smart in his own way, but he’s not the most well-read on the subjects they like to talk about and that just feeds into his whole issue of wondering whether or not he’s good enough to be a part of this world.
even then, he’s still genuinely fond of most of frederick’s company, especially the ones who have been there since the rheinsberg days. francesco algarotti was a personal favorite, as was michael gabriel fredersdorf. later on, general james keith would join the ranks of his favorites too. im completely sure fredersdorf has had to sit there and hear gilbert ramble on about voltaire while the latter may/may not have had one too many glasses of champagne
i like to think there’s an agreement between fritz and gilbert regarding the somewhat open nature of their relationship but i think there’s some unspoken ground  rules in the palace regarding flirtatious activity with the king so there’s no stepping on anyone’s boundaries but voltaire just flat out ignores those rules and thus winds up stepping on gilbert’s toes, intentionally or otherwise.

7 and 12!
7: three random facts about Frederick!
a. he wanted the sanssouci library to be built like his library in Rheinsberg, which was a small round room in the south tower, with a view of the lake. The sanssouci one had a view of the famous statue known at the time as "Antinous", who is said to have drowned in the Nile for Hadrian.
b. Fredersdorf died in 1758. Later his wife Caroline reburied him in Zernikow, the estate Frederick bought for him as a gift. When Theodore Fontane visited Zernikow more than a century later, he said that Fredersdorf’s old soldier's pouch was on his coffin. It’s from the time when Freders was serving in Schwerin’s regiment at Frankfurt an der Oder, where he (allegedly) met Frederick.
c. for a long time Frederick suspected his kitchen staff was stealing from him, and in 1756 he installed guards at all the portals of the palaces to monitor them (what a miser)
12: three books!
i can hardly decide which are best but here are some "specialized" books (i.e. not biography):
a. Kriegsgericht in Köpenick! Anno 1730: Kronprinz - Katte - Königswort (the exhibition catalogue from 2011, about the trial of 1730)
b. The Uniforms of the Prussian Army under Frederick the Great from 1740 to 1786. 2011 (much pictures)
c. the collection of letters to Fredersdorf, edited by Johannes Richter, 1926. (Many notes about Frederick's court in his early reign, plus you get to know that they write to each other 20 times a day)
I want to include Friedrich der Grosse im Spiegel seiner Zeit by Volz as well, but I've only read a little part of it (with the help of machine translation), it's a sourcebook of how Frederick was seen by others!

The Pandemic Trapped a Bolivian Orchestra in a (Haunted?) German Castle
Since March 10th, a Bolivian orchestra has been stranded in the German palace at Rheinsberg. According to the BBC, the medieval palace is a moated castle, surrounded by “23 packs of wolves,” which is said to be haunted by Frederick the Great. In early March, the Orquesta Experimental de Instrumentos… Please click the link below […]
