I always hated that aphmau’s (or Jessica idk I haven’t watched her in years aside from revisiting MiD) ONLY black character is Rhys. And I just KNOW not a SINGLE black person was in the room/call with her when designing him (or whoever designed him) because his hair is ATROCIOUS. Like, I read somewhere that they were originally gonna give him dreads, and I’m like “WHY DIDNT THEY GIVE HIM THAT INSTEAD OF THAT GOOFY FLOOFY LOOKING HAIR!?” I get it if it was hard to model in a skin for Minecraft, but if that’s the case why not give him cornrows?💀

like I’ve always been a fan of aphmau before she REALLY started pertaining to the itty bitty kids that watch her channel and it’s kinda disheartening that my race isn’t represented well in ANY of her series (aside from one I think? But I heard it FLOPPED) Not only that, Rhys gets like, the least love out of any other Daemos😭 I love him but it’s hard to find anyone else who’s post isn’t from like MONTHS ago. (Like srsly it’s really rare to find someone who’s fav character is Rhys) And he’s SO underdeveloped. That’s a problem with every character that Aphmau’s ever wrote though. ESPECIALLY her male characters like they act like children when they’re FULL GROWN ADULTS. But I feel with Rhys it’s especially apparent cus his only character trait frfr is “smart fella not a fart smella” and like dang give him something else to work with😭

I also would’ve loved if they would’ve let the daemos find out the culture of some of their races. Cus I know Rhys favorite rapper would’ve been Kendrick and he would choke out Noi if he ever said “Eminem’s better cause he raps faster!” Just a small tiny rant though this was just something that bugged me.

I’ve seen a few people saying that while no one could have played Stede Bonnet but Rhys anyone could have played Edward Teach. Respectfully I have to disagree. I don’t think anyone but Taika could have played Edward Teach. The vulnerability, the joy, the laughter, the sadness, the pain, every single layer that Ed has is played to perfection by Taika. The way you can see exactly how Ed is feeling without saying a word speaks to the incredible acting skills Taika has. The same goes for Rhys as Stede. Also the dynamic of the friendship between Taika and Rhys is what makes the dynamic between Ed and Stede so special alongside the wonderful writing. I just can’t picture anyone else playing Ed except for Taika and I can’t imagine anyone but Rhys playing Stede. Nothing would have been the same. I don’t feel like it would have been nearly as special as it is.
