Complementary Colors: Shown is a tin box designed with classic Christmas themes. The design uses the complementary colors of green and red that complement each other and create a successful design. The colors draw attention to the illustrations and the overall theme of the design.
Analogous Colors: Shown is the cover of the book "Far From The Tree" by Robin Benway. The cover uses analogous colors to create a design of leaves that are the same yet different. The colors in this design bring attention to the title and the theme of the book about long-lost siblings finding each other and although they are totally different people, they find that they don't fall far from the tree of their family. The use of analogous colors is to show a close relationship while being a different color.
Cool Colors: Shown is the cover of the book "The Selection" by Kierra Cass. The cover uses cool colors to communicate the main character in the story and her innocence and calm soul.
Warm Colors: Shown is the cover of the book "The Elite" by Kierra Cass. The cover uses predominately warm colors to communicate the now fiery soul and passion of the main character. This is a direct difference from the first book of the series and it's meant to show defiance and communicate it to the reader.
Contrast in Color: Shown is the book "I Hope You Get This Message" by Farah Naz Rishi. This cover features a dark background with bright green characters and objects placed on it. The contrasting colors are used to present the idea of the story to the viewers. Despite coming from totally different backgrounds, the main characters all share a similar problem and have to work to resolve it together. The contrasting colors communicate that they are different yet they are all a brightness in a world of darkness.
Closure: Shown is a bag with the WWF logo on it. This design shows closure as it makes an image using other images.
Shown is the cover of my high school yearbook. This design is an example of an active figure-ground relationship because the colors form an image on top of the background. The colors are the figure and the white background is the ground, they work together to form an image.
Shown is a picture of my friend's book that I asked she take. It's a picture of the book "The Goldfinch" by Donna Tartt. This design takes the famous painting "The Goldfinch" and uses its design with a piece of paper on top and a sliver of the painting showing. This is an example of a design using a historical design and adding on to it to make something new that relates to the historical design.
