Is Robotic Joint Replacement Surgery Safe?
Tumblr media
Robotic joint replacement surgery has emerged as a cutting-edge technology, enhancing precision and safety in orthopedic procedures. Unlike traditional methods, robotic assistance allows for highly accurate pre-operative planning, enabling surgeons to tailor the procedure to each patient's unique anatomy.
One key advantage is the ability to create a 3D model of the joint, aiding surgeons in mapping out the surgery with unparalleled precision. This minimizes errors and ensures that implants are placed with optimal alignment, potentially prolonging the lifespan of the joint replacement, says the best knee replacement surgeon in Kolkata. The robotic system also provides real-time feedback during surgery, allowing for adjustments and ensuring the best possible outcome.
Furthermore, robotic joint replacement minimizes tissue damage, resulting in faster recovery times and reduced post-operative pain. The minimally invasive approach, facilitated by the robot, contributes to a lower risk of complications and infection.
While no surgery is entirely without risk, the integration of robotics into joint replacement procedures has demonstrated increased safety and efficacy. Patients considering robotic joint replacement should consult with their orthopedic surgeons to discuss individualized treatment plans and assess the suitability of this innovative approach for their specific needs.

Angel - Pietro Maximoff x F!Powered!Reader
Tumblr media
Warnings: fix it fic where Pietro doesn't die at the end of Age of Ultron! Medical jargon is probably incorrect.
A/n: Anyway this is for a friend of mine who asked where Wanda's brother's fics were and why I haven't written any. Heres to you 🫡
All grammatical errors are my own bc I don't have beta readers.
...
“Male, Caucasian, approximately 22-24 years of age, multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, abdomen and arms. His breathing is labored and blood pressure low.” One of my nurses says as we wheel this unknown man into the O.R.
“Alright! We need gauze, bowls and scalpels and blood! GO! GO! GO!” I yell at my team trying to save this young man’s life. I may be only 20 and one of the youngest surgeons in the world but my team knows I care about them and only yell when it’s something crucial.
“Here ma’am, everything you need.” Maria, my head nurse tells me while I walk into the room gloved and masked.
“Alright ladies and gentlemen, we are going to save this man’s life.” I say looking around the sterile room.
*6 hours later*
“Alright we did it, great job guys. Move him over to an empty recovery room and let them know their friend is fine.” I say walking out. I go and stand near the coffee machine and buy myself a cup.
“So Doc, how's the kid?” I look up and see an old friend.
“Well, Stark, how many times have I told you not to call me Doc? Reminds me of Bugs Bunny, and he’s doing fine. We managed to save him, just barely. He lost a lot of blood, had multiple breaks, what the hell were you guys fighting?!”
“Uh robots, and besides if you had come along with us like I keep suggesting and using those wonderful powers you have-“ I cut him off before he can even finish his thought.
“Stark I’ve told you before, I’m not properly trained for combat, I’m just a doctor, and I’ll tell you what I’ll go and heal all his wounds right now, that way you’ll have him back.” I say sipping the black hot liquid.
“And I told you (y/n) there’s more out there than just shitty coffee and white walls. Listen I'll pitch the idea to Fury to have you move to the compound and become an avenger, you could help a whole lot more people if you agreed” He says as he walks back down the hallway and out the door.
I threw the cup of coffee away and walked into Pietro’s room. I learned of his name after the operation. He honestly looks very peaceful just lying there sleeping. I go and close the blinds and shut and lock the door. I don't need anyone not authorized to know about my powers to come stumbling in the room.
I take off my glove and remove his blanket from his chest; I take a deep breath and lay my hands on his chest. A white light filling up the room along with the slight hum of the machines connected to him.
When I finish he begins to slowly open his eyes. “Is that an Angel I see? A beautiful angel?”
I blush slightly “No Mr. Maximoff, I can assure you that I am no Angel. I am your Doctor; my name is (y/n) (l/n).”
“So I do have an angel in front of me because only an angel would have such a beautiful name as that.” He said smiling.
“Well it’s good to see you are getting back to normal brother” a female voice came from the door.
“Well that is my que to go, I’ll be checking back on you tomorrow and if everything looks good, you should be free to go within the next few days” I say sliding out of the door.
“She seems nice” I hear his sister say as I walk back to my office. Wait, how’d she unlock the door? Did she see me use my powers? All these questions went on swimming through my head.
******
“Good morning Mr. Maximoff, how are you feeling?” I asked while walking into his hospital room, looking at his medical charts “are you eating alright?”
“Good, I've gotten my strength back and maybe that means my speed came back?” he says, getting up in his bed.
“Wow there mr maximoff you've only just started healing and you only recently had surgery. It might take some time for your speed to get back.” I say while gently lying him back down on the bed.
“Alright but promise me once we're out of here and I'm no longer your patient we will hang out and be friends yes?” he says while smiling the dorkiest of smiles I've ever seen.
“Yes, we are already friends but when you get released we can hang out” I say while grabbing my clipboard and walking back out of the room and closing the door. I lean against the wall outside and take a deep breath, wow i can't be falling for my patient but he wont be my patient next week, no next week he’ll be my teammate.
Just before walking into his room this morning I had gotten a call from Stark informing me I would become an official member of the team, healing them whenever necessary as well as healing those injured during missions.
This will surely be a fun experience especially when I have a handsome man like Pietro on my team.

How would companions and faction leaders (+ DLC) react to Ripper Docs?
They are special doctors that can replace any missing limbs from legs, arms, or even specific things like your big toe and eyes.
They are completely unrelated to the Institute as well.
I can’t do the DLC faction leaders because I haven’t played them recently. But I’m happy to add the ones from the main game + Gage.
Cait: Where were these Ripper Docs when Cait was fighting in the Combat Zone? Although they’re sketchy, Cait thinks cheap and fast medical care is better than none at all. And she’d trust them over some fancy-pants quack in Diamond City any day.
Codsworth: Sometimes the Mr. Handy wished replacing human parts was as easy as buying a new limb from General Atomics. Codsworth isn’t happy with Sole choosing some back alley surgeon over a trusted one at a more reputable settlement, but he’s glad Sole is at least getting medical care.
Curie: Curie thinks Ripper Docs are medical marvels. Replacing an entire limb on such limited doctoral knowledge? She’s asked several times to be trained by one. For science, of course.
Danse: Anyone who can implant something into the body that wasn’t there before is part of the Institute. He doesn’t care what anyone else tells him.
Deacon: “Ripper? I hardly know her!” Deacon thinks that joke is way funnier than Sole finds it. Deacon is very familiar with Ripper Docs. Half his face changes have been from them.
Desdemona: Desdemona actually got work done from a Ripper Doc after a botched mission almost took off her finger. She finds them discrete and practical.
Gage: “Shit, you’re telln’ me I never had to wear this stupid eyepatch?” Gage jokes about wanting to see one, but the truth is he’s grown emotionally attached to the cover over his eye.
Hancock: Tells Sole when his limbs start falling off from the radiation, he knows just where to go now. Isn’t joking. Hancock kids about immortality, but he’s always suspected all ghouls either go feral or deteriorate eventually.
MacCready: Mac is wary of anyone who claims they have that kind of medical prowess. Sole jokes they can replace his arms with robot ones, and that actually terrifies him. He won’t let Sole get near one, warning they’d swap them into a synth when they’re under anesthesia.
Maxon: As long as the enhancements made under their services aren’t cyber-related, Maxon doesn’t care. Let the Commonwealth chop itself up and stitch itself back together. He has more important things to worry about.
Preston: He thinks the idea of changing someone’s limbs... or eyes... is creepy, but Preston knows the Commonwealth needs all the healthcare they can get. He’d never personally go to one, but he won’t judge someone for undergoing their services.
Piper: Similarly to Danse, Piper cannot be convinced Ripper Docs aren’t part of the Institute. However, she is quick to interview them for a story on the Commonwealth’s more interesting forms of medical care.
Nick: “Do you think the hands they can replace yours with have fingerprints? Or do they sandpaper them off before loaning them out?” Nick is honestly disgusted by the whole concept. It reminds him of the Institute.
Shaun: Shaun finds Ripper Docs interesting enough to implant one of their memories into a synth so they can teach the Institute scientists how to perform their surgeries.
X6-88: The courser thinks if you’re stupid enough to lose an entire limb, you don’t deserve to get it back.

Reading Round-Up May 2023
I am going to try to catalogue new media/art I've experienced each month in an effort to kick my ass and expose myself to new stuff. Because it'll be really embarrassing for me if at the end of a month I have to say 'I didn't read a single book, didn't watch any movies/shows, or play any games'. Despite the name this isn't just about reading, I just couldn't resist the alliteration. That said this month it's very much about reading because the only game I played was Stardew Valley and I didn't watch any movies or shows, press F. So with the explanation out of the way:
Things Read (Or, More Accurately: Novellas Read)
The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw
A newly published horror novella about a mermaid and a plague doctor coming across a village of children under the cultish leadership of three surgeons able to cheat death. Also it's set in the taiga. I pre-ordered this and I'm so glad I did because I'm absolutely obsessed with it. Honestly, this book has shot up to be one of my favourites of all time already, probably. The prose is fantastic, the world eerily well-drawn despite the general lack of detail (which works in its favor if anything), the characters unique and interesting, and I just adore the pacing and plot development. Excited to read more by this author. If you like stories with themes of death/immortality, and/or well-described viscera, you should read this. (Major content warnings include cannibalism, medical abuse/trauma, child death, and domestic abuse.)
The Seven Who Were Hanged by Leonid Andreyev
Anti-death penalty propaganda from more than a hundred years ago, available on Project Gutenburg, this novella follows seven prisoners doomed to be hanged, five insurrectionists and two murderers. A competent and interesting book well-worth reading, but I admit I don't have any strong feelings on it personally.
This Is How You Lose The Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
Already a well-received novella, this book recently got an influx of sales thanks to one bigolas dickolas, one of the funniest things that's happened in publishing in quite some time. It's about two agents from opposite sides of a time war, exchanging letters and falling in love. It's a good book with lyrical prose and a very interesting world, and I was engaged and enjoyed reading it. However, as expected (and why I put off reading it despite it having been on my radar for a while), I was much more interested in the time war than I was in the romance, which was kind of an issue. The characters were so thoroughly defined by their love for one another that a lot of the emotional beats at the end of the book did not hit me as hard as they should've. Still, that's hardly an issue with the book; those who like romance will probably get much more out of this novella than me, and I still found it a very good book.
The Cybernetic Tea Shop by Meredith Katz
A (self-described) f/f asexual romance novella about an engineer and a near-300-year-old sapient robot who runs a tea shop in memory of her former lover/owner, who learns to move on. I really want to like this book, if only because it's a queer indie work with a lot of heart. But I just don't. In a word, this book is lackluster; the prose is lackluster, the worldbuilding lackluster, the characterization and development lackluster, etc. It persistently reminded me of fanfic as I was reading it, and that's not a compliment. It was not an awful read, and it's short and cheap, so if the premise interests you, there are worse ways to spend a few hours. But that's hardly glowing praise.
Ten Days in a Mad House by Nellie Bly
Non-fiction novella that's a collection of newspaper articles written by Bly, chronicling her commitment to and subsequent stay in the Blackwell Island insane asylum. Bly faked insanity in order to go undercover, resulting in a landmark piece of reporting that called attention to the horrific treatment of patients in insane asylums, written in 1887. A fascinating read, though obviously, tread cautiously. Bly's writing reads easy, and it's easy to see how she captivated newspaper readers at the time. It's available for free on Project Gutenberg; the edition there also includes two other articles, one of Bly attempting to find work as a servant, one of Bly working a factory job.
Through the Gates of the Silver Key, The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, The Dreams in the Witch House, The Shadow over Innsmouth, The History of the Necronomicon, The Dunwich Horror, The Festival, The Haunter of the Dark, The Whisperer in the Darkness, At the Mountains of Madness, and Out of the Aeons by H.P. Lovecraft
I've been making my way through Lovecraft's bibliography and specifically the Dream Cycle stories for the past few months. This month I finally finished the Dream Cycle, and began working through the Cthulu Mythos stories I've thusfar missed.
I fucking hate Lovecraft's writing. It's formulaic as all hell; if you've read one Lovecraftian horror story, you've read at least 90% of the others. His descriptions can be quite vivid, but too often he insists on not fucking describing shit when it actually comes to the horrors, and I get that's the point, but you can only say 'the horror is indescribable' in so many ways before it becomes boring. Plus, even when he does describe things, his descriptions always follow the same cadence, sentence structure, and vocabulary, making them, again, formulaic as all hell. Some of his concepts are interesting, but they're invariably bogged down by his absolutely rancid worldviews. His racism is, rightfully, famous, but his stories indicate a deeply classist, exceptionalist, and eugenicist worldview as well, not to mention a preoccupation with escapism and nostalgia that's beyond childish, which makes these stories absolutely fucking insufferable. I quickly resorted to finding readings of his stories on Librivox and Youtube when possible, so that I could at least be doing something else while I worked through them. From the ones I've read this month, I'd say the ones worth reading if you're interested in Lovecraft's worldbuilding are Through the Gates of the Silver Key (though you will need to read, at the very least, The Silver Key first, and preferably some other Dream Cycle and/or Randolph Carter stuff, especially The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath), The History of the Necronomicon (exactly what it sounds like, extremely short), The Whisperer in the Darkness, Out of the Aeons, and At The Mountains of Madness. Reluctantly, I’ll also recommend The Shadow over Innsmouth by virtue of it being basically required Lovecraft reading, but I was rather unimpressed by it. Also major racism warnings for pretty much everything but specifically Out of the Aeons in general, two instances of the N-word with the hard R in Through the Gates of the Silver Key, a white guy cosplaying an Indian one in that same story, and whatever the fuck Shadow over Innsmouth had going on, this paragraph is already far too long, I do not have the time to get into it.
TL;DR don’t read Lovecraft but if you must, from this month’s stories the ones worth suffering through are Through The Gates of the Silver Key, The History of the Necronomicon, The Whisperer in the Darkness, Out of the Aeons, At The Mountains of Madness, and The Shadow over Innsmouth.

Today was my one month hysterectomy post op! If you are also ftm and wanting to know what the process was like, this is that post.
So for context: I'm 28, came out at 26 which is also when I started hormones. The month I turned 27 I got my top surgery (double incision). This is only relevant because I compare the two experiences. (Top surgery was worse recovery-wise for me.) I also live in California and went through insurance.
Pre op: So pre op was normal. They took my blood, added anti-nausea medicine to my IV antibiotic drip, because I specifically asked for it. When I got my top surgery I threw up once about an hour after I got home, which I was very nauseous for. Any type of abdominal surgery is it only made worse when your body is squishing itself together to throw up otl. But thankfully I had zero nausea or vomiting this time post op. So if you're like me, ask for anti-nausea meds before surgery. They also shave basically from your chest down to your suprapubic area.
What I had: I had a laparoscopic robotic total hysterectomy, where they removed my uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes, and my left ovary. I kept my right one for future bone health and any future egg harvesting if I ever want to do reverse IVF. I also don't have a family history of ovarian cancer, so that was a big deciding factor for me too.
Right after surgery: Where my top surgery took 6 hours and was generally a flippant experience by the staff, this surgery took around 2.5 hours and the staff was great. The only thing I didn't like was a nurse assumed I was diabetic for some reason and put me on a no food diet outside of jello. I stayed overnight and nobody would listen to me insisting I wasn't diabetic and wouldn't get clearance from the doctor until over 24 hours since I last ate. My doctor told me the next morning I should have had a no restriction diet, and eating normally after a robotic hysterectomy was totally normal and encouraged.
Post op bleeding and tw: I've seen other stories and vlogs of people who have had the same procedure done and explain how the nurses didn't help them move around or go to the bathroom, or in one really shocking case let the patient walk a trail of blood from the cervical sutures from his bed to the bathroom. I was worried about that, but after my experience I wonder if that wasn't just a new or uncaring nurse or half assed suture job. My experience was I hardly bled the entire post op. I had very heavy clotting periods before I started hrt, and had one mild instance where basically a pad was used. But all other bleeding was just light spotting. I also had healthy organs and have never been pregnant so that is a factor I'm assuming as well. But if you are worried, ask your surgeon what type of suture/stitch they plan on using and how that affects any expected bleeding. Even ask them to show you how they do it. You should not be pouring blood after surgery.
I was discharged around noon the day after surgery and I had to walk up stairs to get to my apartment. That was fine, this surgery didn't leave me off my feet like my top surgery had.
At home recovery went well. I propped myself up in bed and sleeping was slightly awkward but nowhere near as awkward as sleeping with top surgery drains was. The first five or six days post op it was hard to stand all the way straightened up, there was an internal pull, which was mainly on my left side, so I'm assuming for me it was because that side had more things removed. Laying on either side was hard until about a week and a half post op. At a day shy of two weeks post op I felt completely normal again. I also was cleared to take baths again.
I had four incisions, one of each side of my belly button and one in my belly button. But I still don't know where the fourth is, and the nurses at the hospital couldn't find it either?? So we were all like idk man. Honestly the one in the belly button is the hardest because (for me at least) with weight and a roll you just have a hard time keeping the area dry after an incision is left there. I'm 5’4 and weight 198lbs, and the way I hold weight it's not like I have a lot of folds of skin, but it was an awkward spot. My surgeon closed the incisions with internal stitches and skin glue. And around a week that glue came off, so to stop seepage I just used medical tape and a square of gauze over my belly button and changed it frequently throughout the day. It's nowhere near as bad as dealing with top surgery drains though.
At a month post op I've been cleared for everything except like power lifting until six weeks, which I don't do anyway. Compared to top surgery, having a total hysterectomy robotically was a breeze. I wasn't even told to limit sodium intake, so idk if that's a thing across the board when it comes to hysterectomies or just in my case. But nothing beats sausage after having like half a pound of jello cups.
My next step is meta, which I found out I got approved for, so I hope to get that done soon.
If anyone has questions about a part of the process, even if it's really TMI or not, I'm happy to answer!

Artificial Intelligence (An alarming situation).
Tumblr media
I remember when I was a kid, I used to see so many birds, sparrows to be more specific, hearing their chirping sounds every morning, it always made me happy. I used to witness their complete ecosystem around trees, gardens etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Similarly, I used to do almost all of my work independently without using some tech gadgets and any Expert System having AI based algorithm. We in our young age did not have VR gear boxes, Smartphones, Smartwatches but pure joy and healthy life.
It seems like everything has changed in a glance. Now I see gadgets everywhere, now we don`t have to move physically to perform any task, now we, barely move our finger to do our tasks. Is it a blessing or a curse?
Tumblr media
As we are living in AI era, we "maybe unknowingly" are completely dependent upon technology. As for now, we are living besides Robots and Expert Systems, these technology have more reliability over our decisions. Initially AI was developed to assist human but this pleasant dream soon to be turned into a nightmare.
HOW? How AI is defeating us rather than helping us out.
UNEMPLOYMENT:
Technically, the idea of AI was to create jobs for people, to assist us for carrying out complex tasks. AI is all about the automation this means millions of people are going to lose their jobs who are responsible for several administrative work.
One example is; A robot has started to perform surgery on a patient to diagnose and cure some disease, creating troubles for doctors and paramedics. The implementation of AI in medical field is in experimental phase and soon it can replace most of the doctors and surgeons especially in developed world, leading to doctors towards unemployment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Similarly, Robots based upon AI models are being used experimentally in construction and infrastructure field creating and developing homes and buildings using their complex algorithms of modeling. It can also lead to architectures and home designers to be idle.
Tumblr media
2. HEALTH ISSUES:
Tumblr media
Though AI was developed to help us in living a healthier and depression-free lives but ended up having several health issues and lazy lives. Today, everything is just a one click or tap away from us. We barely move and thanks to the latest technology. Health-related issues arises when our dependency leads us to laziness and slowly depression which gradually will turn into heart diseases and being obese.
3. THREAT TO ENVIRONMENT:
Tumblr media
Relying completely on AI, it can be a serious threat to our environment and that means we all are connected with the natural ecosystem and the excessive usage of technology requires heavy installation resources (e.g. Cell Phone towers are in the larger number than before to provide its subscribers fast internet and 5G).
4. THREAT TO ANIMALS AND BIRDS:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Animals and birds are the necessary part of our lives. They helps us in an indirect manner to balance the natural ecosystem but the unlimited experiments and uses of AI is leading towards the destruction and even extinction of several species. Several types of animals and birds are near to the mass extinction.
Further, there could be other threats in several aspects due to the excessive usage and experiments to implement AI among us.
Consider, if those AI-based robots due to some malfunctions in their complex infrastructures and algorithms tries to kill you rather than saving you, how`d you react?
CONCLUSIVELY:
Opposing the excessive and limitless implementation of AI around us doesn`t means that I am against the new improvised tech. Only we must have a watch over its interference in those decisions of ours which should be completely ours only.
Even though, I myself is a great fan of Artificial Intelligence and have done some practical (An educational project during COVID19) work using AI.
All I want to say is that AI has truly helped us a lot in a lot of ways but it should have some constraints and regulations to work alongside us so that we can move along till the end of the line.

What happens during robotic-assisted knee replacement?
Tumblr media
Robotic joint replacement surgery represents a groundbreaking advancement in orthopedic procedures. This innovative technique combines the precision of robotics with the skill of the surgeon to enhance the overall outcome of the process.
Accordin to the best knee replacement surgeon in Kolkata
during the procedure, the surgeon utilizes advanced robotic technology to create a three-dimensional model of the patient's knee, allowing for personalized planning. This model assists in determining the optimal implant size, alignment, and positioning tailored to the patient's unique anatomy.
The surgical process involves the surgeon guiding the robotic arm to remove damaged portions of the joint with unparalleled accuracy. This precision is particularly beneficial in preserving healthy bone and soft tissue surrounding the area. The robotic system constantly provides real-time feedback, allowing the surgeon to make immediate adjustments for optimal results.
Additionally, robotic-assisted surgery offers a higher degree of customization. The technology enables the surgeon to tailor the procedure according to the patient's specific needs, promoting a more natural feel and improved functionality post-surgery.
