His Dark Materials is a franchise that tackles so many branches of physics and even creates a universe where the main course of study is experimental theology which is all about identifying and explaining dark matter while also adding dimensions to string theory, the multiverse theory, and the very concept of the human soul. At the same time, it aggressively calls out the problem with the state being controlled by the church, how people are condemned for being different and religious fearmongering stops the chance at growth both on an individual and a societal scale. It鈥檚 a franchise where the heroes of the story are two children who aren鈥檛 allowed to know the prophecy they鈥檙e a part of, who save the world unwittingly simply by doing what they believe to be right. Meanwhile, the person who thought he was the hero all along, the person who rallied an army from multiple universes to FIGHT. GOD. HIMSELF. is ultimately consumed by his own ego and forced to take a back seat when he realises he鈥檚 just one tiny piece of a much larger story that鈥檚 true heart is his own daugher. The child he abandoned, the child he didn鈥檛 know or care to know how to look after. It鈥檚 a franchise about finding love even when your biological family abandon you, it鈥檚 about looking evil in the eye and seeing your own mother, it鈥檚 about good and evil not being black and white but instead a complex and cruel mixture of both. It鈥檚 about the two worst people you know banding together at the last second to save their daughter with their final breaths. It鈥檚 about exploration and learning how to grow through experience, it鈥檚 about kindness being shared across the multiverse, exchanging stories with strangers and saving the whole world by doing something perfectly ordinary and receiving no reward.
Oh, and it鈥檚 also a franchise rich with fantasy, with giant talking polar bears, witches and ghosts, angels and daemons, and a mammal-like species from another world that travels exclusively on roller skates.聽
mania haters are so bizarre to me like. you were too good to be true, gold plated. i am a collapsing star with tunnel vision but only for you. realised i can鈥檛 not be with you or be just your friend i love you to death but i just can鈥檛 pretend we were lovers first confidants but never friends, were we ever friends? i became such a strange shape from trying to fit in. the things you do in the name of what you love. i got dreams of my own but i want to make yours come true. i鈥檓 just young enough to still believe but young enough not to know what to believe in. you say please don鈥檛 ever change but you don鈥檛 like me the way i am. there are no atheists in foxholes. we鈥檝e gone way too fast for way too long and we were never supposed to make it half this far. i got a feeling inside that i can鈥檛 domesticate, it doesn鈥檛 want to live in a cage, a feeling that i can鈥檛 housebreak. i鈥檓 yours until the earth starts to crumble and the heavens roll away i鈥檓 struggling to exist with you and without you. THESE ARE THE LAST BLUES WE鈥橰E EVER GONNA HAVE LET鈥橲 SEE HOW DEEP WE GET! ARE YOU HEARING THEM!!!!!!

I recently redeveloped a Shameless US obsession after having overcome it 4 years ago and I just have to rant about the way Mickey was written off in the 6th season. In season 5, when gallavich breaks up, our hearts are broken in a million tiny little pieces. BUT we understand the necessity of the break up and, as is the case for most of the time up until season 5, the writing is good enough that we can sympathise with both Mickey and Ian. The start of season 6 is UNFORGIVABLE. They did Mickey downright atrocious. They actually made Ian treat him like a toxic ex??? When Ian visited him in prison he had the audacity to tell him that Svetlana paid him to come???? What the actual fuck. AND it doesn't stop there. Mickey shows him a literal TATTOO OF HIS NAME ACROSS HIS CHEST AND IAN DOES NOT GIVE EVEN A FRACTION OF A FUCK???? And the cherry on top in this sadistic cake was that Mickey had to ask him MULTIPLE TIMES if he would wait for him to get out AND IAN DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THE COMMON DECENCY TO LIE WITHOUT BEING ASKED TO LIE FIRST????????? That scene pissed me off more than the entirety of season 5 did, because they left Mickey without a single shred of self respect. He was one of the most well developed characters. His progress was unreal. He went from "Kiss me an I'll rip your fucking tongue out" to:
1. Coming out for Ian just because he was afraid to lose him again
2. Taking care of him when his depression hit (even if in the long term the psych ward was the better option)
3. Supporting Ian in every single one of his phases. When he was manic, he made plans with him and calmed him down. When he was depressed, he laid with him and hid the knives. When he STOLE HIS BABY, HE FORGAVE HIM IMMEDIATELY AND DID EVERYTHING HE COULD SO HE COULD GET PROPER HELP.
4. He did not give up on him even when he was tempted to do so.
5. He assumed the role of Ian's personal nurse when the idiot refused to take his medication like a toddler because he only wanted what was best for him.
6. He eas the first one to say "I love you', 2 time, both unreciprocated.
And Ian was willing to look besides all the aforementioned stuff and just plain up treat him like he meant nothing to him, as if he didn't mean the world to him a couple seasons ago. The breakup was extremely painful, especially because Ian was heavily influenced by Monica and pretty much forgot everything Mickey did for him. But the start of season 6. Dude. That's a new low. This is limbo dancing with satan kind of low. This is the writers don't respect the audience kind of low. Come on.
