Sugar, pumpkin spice and everything nice ✨🌺✨
@pinayelf's Immy is a joy to have on your dash, and also a joy to draw. It is not a palette I normally use, and I had fun in experimenting on more pastel, dawn-like colours, and with a more romantic and girly dress than I normally would, and it was fun to draw something new and so wholesome. And, got the chance to draw Garrett who'd just decide that a hug was overdue.

Chapter 26: Crash Cart
Hey guys! You're in for a really special treat for this chapter! Gonna meet some new faces, some of them might look a little familiar from a different path walked.
Big thanks to @rogueshadeaux! You'll understand why when you read the chapter. ;)
Without further delay, Let's jump in!

*HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK*
The sound of the HEMTT’s horn blares through the Convoy as Dove lead-foots it through this circus of a city, I’m assuming to find a hospital. A sharp turn nearly sends me to the floor along with some plants. Goddamn it! Kid’s driving like an absolute moron! Another turn and another jostle almost sends me careening into Kestrel as she gets on the radio mounted to the wall.
“Caper to Base, Caper to Base!” Kestrel barks into the radio. “Get a trauma team ready outside of Mercy Medical! We’re coming in hot and we have a live one! Over!” There is some chatter over the line that I could barely hear, but Kestrel could. “Yes, get Bear and get the twins! It’s Code Red urgent. Over!”
I gawk at the Gunsmith as she ends the communication and relays something to the panicking bird up-front. My head is full of questions; of who this “Bear” is and who the “twins” are. Though I have to admit, I’m impressed with Kestrel’s leadership.
I can’t help but to wonder, with how Kestrel handled everything, I’m genuinely surprised that she’s not the leader. Why isn’t she? I know that with our past, I’ve seen how nasty and vicious she could be, but I’m someone she hates, so she has no loyalty to me. With her team, however, she’s as loyal as they come. Ready to go to bat when they’re threatened, even standing up to me, the Beast, when I started verbally going after Mako… Are there some other personality traits that hinder her that I haven’t seen or is this a personal choice?
Perhaps… Is there something that we both share in common?
A sudden turn nearly makes me tumble into Kestrel and Mako as the dodo bird driving skids to a halt. I wanna yell at the idiot, but with the frenetic energy buzzing in the air, I decide against it. Kid’s spooked enough, not gonna add to it. Though I will give him a good zap later for the dumbass driving.
Mako and Kestrel quickly open the door as Pangolin’s voice begins to rise from a pitiful whimper to a scream. Damnit! The pain meds are wearing off and it won’t be long until he’s thrashing again! Thankfully I can see we stopped in front of a hospital and there’s a response team outside with a stretcher at the ready when the doors are open. I help Mako get the Brick Spartan off of the cot to transfer him, Dove joining in later after he puts the HEMTT in park. With Pangolin secured, we rush inside.
“Where are they?” I hear the Gunsmith bark out as she rushes to the head nurse. “Where’s Sbiaw and Ḱaʔk̓aʔ?!” I had to steel myself as to not guffaw at the nonsense that just tumbled out of Kes’ mouth. Sbee-yaw?? Ca-ca???? The fuck kind of callsigns are those?! Especially the second one, what brain-dead dumbass uses the Spanish word for “shit” as a callsign?! I can feel my mind wanting to continue on that train of thought, but a bellow quickly derails it.
“OUT OF MY FUCKING WAY, I NEED TO GET TO MY SON!!!!”
I turn my head to see, but I’m quickly yanked away by Kestrel and Mako. I’m about to give them hell for touching me without permission, but when I see what’s barreling down the hallways, I understand quickly why.
An absolute Amazoness of a woman, 7’0” tall, blazing red hair and a bear mask on her face, is charging down the hall like a rampaging bull, knocking away anything blocking her straight-shot path to us, specifically to Pangolin. As much as I hate to admit it, if I hadn’t been pulled out of the way, that woman would have sent me flying.
Behind the woman, looking tiny compared to her, were two individuals rushing to keep up with the rampaging mother. A man with brown hair that almost has a metallic shine to it and seafoam eyes and a woman with black hair and brown eyes, both of them equally focused on getting to the Spartan as well.
Soon, all hell breaks loose as soon as Pangolin starts screaming in pain. The meds must have worn off. The man with the shiny hair turns his arms from flesh to steel with a thought and helps Bear with holding the howling man down, the metal conduit using rebar to make restraints to keep Pangolin from thrashing and hitting someone. The black-haired woman walks up to Kestrel and starts talking to her, questioning her about “What the fuck has gotten into Pangolin??” What they were saying, I couldn’t hear clearly over the chaos, but I know as soon as Kestrel mentions “blink scorpions” the woman’s face went pale.
“Everyone! Get Pangolin in the Poison Ward asap!!” The woman shouts in alarm. “Double time it! If we don’t get antivenom and anti-corrodium compounds in him soon, he’s going to be in deep shit!!” Anti-corrodi-wha?! What does that even mean?! First we get stupid names and now this?! What in the hell is happening??? I don’t get any time to think about it before everyone scrambles as fast as they can without knocking over the stretcher. I can feel the beginnings of a cold sweat form as a foggy memory slips in from the mental maelstrom, the memory of myself being on a stretcher with the same chaotic energy around me before everything went black.
What happens next blurs together, adrenaline and chaos making everything hazy. A flurry of panicking feet with Bear leading the charge and clearing the way while everyone else, me included, rush the stretcher down the hall.
We’re about to get to the door, but the black-haired woman stops us. Dove gives her a dismayed look
“What the hell, Crow?!” He blurts out as the medical staff take Pangolin into the room.
“Don’t start with me, Dove.” The woman, Crow, warns the Get-Away. “You know the rules, we can’t have too many people in the room right now. Brent’s allowed in there because he’s going to help keep Pangolin under control until we can get his pain managed and the detox procedure started. Bear’s allowed in because she’s his mother.”
“But I’m his brother and she’s my mother too!” Dove protests as he is about to step forward, but Kestrel puts her hand on his shoulder.
“Drop it, Dove.” The Gunsmith states firmly. “I know you’re worried about Pango, but Crow’s right. Right now, it’s best for there to be as few bodies as possible.”
“But mom-”
“- Can help Coyote with controlling Pangolin if he starts wigging out.” The Gunsmith interrupts. “Look, let’s not give Crow and the staff grief and wait out with everyone. When Pango’s stable, then we can visit.” I can see Dove giving Kestrel a heated glare, but he sighs with an “alright, fine.”
“I’ll keep you all updated.” Crow assures Dove before she turns to look at me with a curious, yet cautious look. I don’t pay her much mind, I’m too focused on Kestrel and Dove to really notice the funny look.
With Dove finally convinced, we head off out to one of the waiting rooms. I rub my temples as I hear my tinnitus start setting in and a headache rearing its ugly head. I could use a stiff drink.
Actually, scratch that. I need some warm water and a nap.

Whumpril 2023 - Day 25
Thank you @comfy-whumpee!! I was so excited to write this and get to borrow Jhazel!! Mariano would do anything for her, it turns out, and no one is surprised.
TWs: violence, human shield
Heart Racing | On the Run | “We’re being watched.”
It was always nice to visit Jhazel's cottage whenever they were in the area. The forest was beautiful, and the air always felt healing. How much of that could be chalked up to Mariano's increased sensitivity to magic was still up for debate, but he wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.
Jhazel was wonderful company, too. She'd welcomed himself and Bastian into her home when they'd first met, helped get a deep wound tended to, and didn't ban them when the people who'd caused it showed up again. She understood what it felt like to have a history that you were trying to improve past.
Naturally, this meant that when they visited, Mariano and Bastian insisted on helping out as much as they could to make her coming weeks a little easier. Cutting firewood, helping prune the garden, helping with any canning that needed to be done, the mundane work was safe and familiar. Both of them took a sense of peace from it.
That didn't mean they were oblivious though, even surrounded by the safe, nurturing magic of the forest.
Mariano saw the subtle shift in Bastian's posture as himself and Jhazel worked in the garden. The set of Bastian's shoulders became firmer. His rhythm of splitting wood only slowed just a hair.
Mariano felt it too. A prickling at the back of his neck that sent tension creeping up his arms. "We're being watched." Mariano whispered as Jhazel nodded. She closed her eyes, and the smell of her magic--and the forest's--began wafting through the air.
In an instant, Mariano saw ten figures descend on the little cottage. "Get the witch!" They declared, triumphant and eager.
Mariano jumped to his feet, pulling his sword from his sheathe. He couldn't light his blade up with his magic, not here in the forest. Bastian couldn't shift either, not without risking harm to the trees and plants. That was alright though, he thought as he parried one swing and rent a horrific gouge into the man's side.
He needed to stay close to Jhazel. His own armor wasn't the best, mostly being leather, but it was better than not having armor at all like their gracious host. "Get inside!" Mariano shouted to Jhazel, grunting as his sword's hilt caught another strike from someone new. "We'll hold them off!"
Jhazel didn't make a move for her door though, only standing as the earthy smell of the magic of the forest intensified further. The wind almost seemed to shift as someone fell, catching a thrown hunk of firewood to the temple. Her magic was powerful, far stronger than Mariano's could hope to be. It seemed to require so much focus--but she knew what she was doing. He had to trust her.
Howls echoed through the brush, distant but getting closer.
Mariano finally overpowered his immediate opponent, sending him stumbling backwards. One more slash of his sword made sure that he stayed down. The wind picked up, the birds going quiet. All he had to do was guard their host. He could do that.
Bastian barely had a chance to shout before magic crackled past Mariano's face. The hair on the back of his neck rose as the smell of pure winter whizzed just in front of his nose. A mage.
Mariano whipped around, locking eyes with the most dangerous opponent in that clearing.
As a third swordsman charged in, and three more converged on Bastian, the mage fired another blast. This one clipped Mariano's shoulder, pulling a breathless gasp from him as he was sent sprawling away from Jhazel from a sword swing. The winter's grip made it even harder to keep his hold on his blade, to keep his coordination. He rolled to his hands and knees, managing to block another swing before it connected with his neck.
Jhazel had the final two swordsmen charging at her when the howls pierced the air again. Massive shapes tore through the brush, flashing teeth and snarling as they leaped to intercept the attackers. The men were brought to the ground with shouts, pinned beneath the massive wolves.
Mariano didn't get a chance to see if they were spared. The opposing mage had started to close the distance with Jhazel, brilliant light shining at their palms. She was a powerful mage, but Mariano knew how strong of a spell that was going to be.
The man struggling with him knocked his sword from his hands, and Mariano only just managed to keep his balance and break away from his fight.
There was no time to think. She'd done so much. She'd been so kind. Mariano couldn't let her get hit.
He barely noticed the wolves sprinting towards the last two targets, he barely heard Bastian roaring as he smashed his third swordsman into the ground. All Mariano could see was the horrible shine intensifying and the tell-tale finger twitch of a cast being completed.
"No!"
In a flash, in an eternity, in silence, in cacophony, Mariano only just managed to get in front of Jhazel.
A cold more pervasive than even healing magic cracked through Mariano's body as the spell from that mage hit home. He couldn't even scream as it ripped straight through his leather armor and clothes without being buffered by any of it. It sank into his chest like the rush of an icy lake and latched its teeth into his lungs. He dropped to the grass, breathlessly curling into himself as his limbs locked up.
Two more wolves took down the mage and final swordsman. Quiet descended again. As quickly as it started, it was over.
The intense smell of forest magic eased. Hands that felt like they were on fire pressed to his neck. "Bastian, help me get him inside." Jhazel? That was her voice. She sounded focused. She sounded okay.
Bastian's worried voice sounded next, and larger, even warmer hands carefully lifted him up. "That was some awful spell--you have a cure or something?" He asked, and Mariano curled into his hold, voice stolen by how tense his throat felt.
Jhazel didn't answer, instead the clinking of her rummaging through cabinets filled the little cottage. "Toss some more firewood into the fireplace." She said. "There's no cure for cold magic like that, just like there are no cures for any burning that your fire causes. But we aren't helpless."
Water filled what Mariano dimly recognized as a kettle, and the smell of wood starting to catch filled the air around him. Mariano tried to open his eyes, catching the blurry shape of Bastian's hair sparkling around his face.
"Sit, Bastian, right there. That chair should get plenty warm when this fire gets going." Jhazel said, as calm and unflappable as ever. "We'll get some color back in him soon."
The gentle clank of the kettle being hung over the fire told Mariano that tea was probably getting made. Her footsteps left, as Bastian adjusted his hold on Mariano. His legs were draped over Bastians, and both of his dragon's arms looped around his waist. When a blanket was draped over Mariano and tucked in around him, Jhazel finally seemed to be satisfied.
She sat beside Bastian in her own chair, one hand reaching to tug the blanket more securely around Mariano's knees as silence fell. The crackle of fire and warmth slowly seeping back into Mariano's skin lulled him. He let his head fully rest against Bastian's shoulder, eyes drifting closed. Everything was still too tense, it was too painful to even think about moving more than absolutely necessary, but as the minutes wore on that began to ebb.
"That was...brave of you to do." Jhazel said, when she pulled the kettle from the fire and started pouring the tea into a mug. "Here, Bastian, help him drink." She said, and Mariano felt Bastian's arms shift. Warm, spiced tea was brought to his lips. As he sipped, it started to thaw out some of the ice that still seemed hell-bent on eating through his vocal cords.
He sighed when Bastian pulled the mug away, and one of Jhazel's hands patted his knee. "I would have been alright, if that magic had hit me." She spoke gently, as though she didn't want to discount what he'd done. "...Thank you, though, Mariano."
It was easier to look at Jhazel this time, even as his aching body protested the small smile he gave her. "...Always." He managed. "You kept...kept us safe before. Wanted to return the favor."
Jhazel laughed, so gently that Mariano almost thought he imagined it. "Next time," She said. "You can just get me some preserves from wherever you've been."
Mariano nodded, smiling despite the gentle chiding. He'd make sure to remember her request. It wouldn't stop him from taking another hit for her if it was necessary, but...a little gift couldn't ever hurt, either.

okay, you know i'm asking about lore and ava lol
but also deputy switcheroo?
please and thank you <3
Answered about Deputy Switcheroo here.
You already know pretty much everything about the Lore and Ava AU, lmao. So far, it's mostly Lore being an awkward bisexual disaster in a complete panic over the incredibly gorgeous doctor Phineas shoved onto her lap in the escape pod. (Side note: "fuck the law" is Lore/Ava smut.)
For everyone else: In this AU, Phineas manages to awaken two Hope colonists, Lore and Ava, and sends them on the mission together. Lore is a helpless bi disaster for the goth doctor, and they squabble and flirt and bend the sexual tension every which way. Also, most everything else is generally the same, except there's no Max in this one. (Unless OT3 potential...)
I've got about 5k words written for it so far. I'll share just a random bit of it under the cut.
She found the stranger sitting calmly several feet away, watching her intently. The woman still looked a little pale, but otherwise recovered. “You almost looked like you knew him.”
Lore chortled at that and shook her head. “How could I? I’m from the Hope, same as you, ain’t I?” She grunted, then pushed the scowl from her face. She was angry with her own emotions, not this stranger. She blinked and stared at her companion. “I ain’t know what to call you, come to think on it.”
The woman leaned back, seeming stunned by the sudden shift. Then she offered a smile that all but made Lore’s knees give out beneath her. “You can call me Ava. Dr. Ava Mueller.”
Lore’s face flushed. Oh fuck, of course she’d get stuck out of her depth again! She swallowed hard and gave a nod. “Good to meet you, then, Doc. I’m…” She hesitated and glanced back at the grave. She shook her head. It wasn’t an idea she wanted to let linger. She looked back at the good doctor. “You can jus’ call me Lore. Everyone else always did.”
The doctor’s head cocked slightly to one side and a light flashed in her pretty blue eyes that sent a thrill along Lore’s spine. “That’s all they call you, huh?”
Lore shrugged, looking slightly away. “Rest o’ my name’s a mouthful on the likes o’ me. People always said Lore just suits better. My da always did have strange notions.”
Ava’s smile was more of a smirk, but it was damned sexy and Lore was remembering the state of her underwear and just how easily this woman could likely cause it all over again. Ava stared up at her. “I’d still like to hear it. You’ve got me curious now.”
Lore frowned. She sighed. “Lorelei Jameson. I ain’t givin’ you the middle, that’s enough.”
“Lorelei.” The doctor said it slowly, sounding it out in long drawn out tones. She smirked again. “It’s almost as pretty as you are.”
Lore blushed and stammered softly, unable to find words for that. She chose to look away instead. She wasn’t certain she knew what to do with a pretty doctor set on teasing her and unknowingly making her wet and panting for things the other woman probably had no interest in whatsoever. Women like this one did not look at women like Lore, even if by some miracle they liked women at all.
Instead, she focused on the task ahead, forcing herself to recall as much of Welles’ words as she could find. “Our poor friend there had a ship, an’ we still need it, best I can tell, if we’re goin’ to get anywhere in this system.” She wiped her hands on her jacket. She was glad, at least, that Welles had elected to remove the cryosuits and dress them in their clothes from the boarding prior to waking them. She’d hated putting that damned suit on and she didn’t want to be wearing it now. She took a look around and tried to pick up some sign of where the departed Mr. Hawthorne might have come from. She was hardly a tracker of any sort, but she saw a dirt track and some broken stalks of plants where someone’s boots had crushed them. She nodded in that direction. “We’ll head that way, see if we can’t find his ship.”
The doctor cocked an eyebrow at her. “You’re awfully sure of yourself. How do you know this’ll do any good? We’re alone in a system we know nothing about. There could be all kinds of aliens or monsters ready to turn us into dinner. Or worse!”
Lore gave a shrug. “I’ve faced plenty o’ monsters. Can’t be any worse ones here. And we sure as shit ain’t goin’ to survive if we jus’ sit here and wait for no one to rescue us. Ain’t no one know we’re here. We’re gonna have to rescue our own selves.”
The doctor paused, a considered look on her face. Then her eyes moved slowly along Lore’s own frame, and Lore wanted to whimper and beg, or just claw the woman’s tantalizing clothing clean off and put her mouth on every inch of skin she could reach. “You do look like you can handle yourself. And I don’t want to just die out here alone. Guess I have to go with you, as it doesn’t seem I’ll convince you to stay.”
Lore gave a small laugh. “No, I ain’t stayin’ out in this wilderness until dark. Bound to find a town or shelter or that ship somewhere, ain’t we? Beasties might come an’ find us, if we’re still here in the dark.” She grinned. “I can fight ‘em in the daylight, but darkness ain’t a disadvantage I want to work against.” She held out her hand with a half smile. “Come on, Doc. I’ll keep you safe, jus’ stick with me.”
Ava’s lips quivered between frown and smile for a few seconds. Then she reached up and took Lore’s hand, allowing her to pull her to her feet. “I can’t mind that much, at least.” She kept her hand tight around Lore’s for a long moment, standing close enough for Lore to feel her breath. Those rich blue eyes were gazing at her with a mischievous light and those full lips wore a smile that made Lore want to dive into headfirst into them. A crushing kiss against that mouth seemed more fulfilling than finding water. She could just imagine how soft and supple and warm they’d be, and she wondered how that mouth would taste, what it’d feel like to sweep her tongue inside, if she could make the doctor shiver with her tongue. God damn it, she wanted it something awful, and these vivid imaginings weren’t going to do her any fucking good.
Lore nodded. “Let’s get a move on, then, Doc. You just follow my lead an’ I’ll get us out o’ here.” She turned to lead the way.
A hand slipped onto her waist and she froze. She felt the brush of softness against her back and knew it was the barest graze of the doctor’s breasts. Lore’s throat dried instantly. Then there was a hot breath against her ear, followed by a breathy whisper. “Follow you? Any time.”
Lore’s eyes nearly rolled all the way back in her head as she grunted hard to cover the mewling groan that threatened to escape her throat. The doctor wasn’t going to be the least bit good for her sanity. Or her underwear. Damn it!
She marshaled her resolve and gave a hard nod before moving forward. Now was not the time to think about how damned sexy the good doctor was or how badly Lore wanted to pin her to the nearest surface and taste her and… No. Not the time. She shoved the thoughts away and scanned ahead, straightening her back and marching forward into whatever unknowns were in front of them.

there r a lot of things im still working thru & coming to terms with being a transplant here in texas. texas is not the south no matter what the locals say because its culture is very very different from the rest of the south. i was raised in deep rural tn & still, despite being here for 10 yrs am grappling with certain culture shocks
#ie i have to remind myself its not Ingrained in every single texan to Bring something for the host every time u visit smnes place#& that if u spend a long time at or are overnight at smnes place (surprisingly common amongst casual friends cuz of southern hospitality &)#(-how far apart everyones homes actually are)#that u help clean up any 'mess' u made#ie doing dishes- folding blankets- moving furniture back to its place- etc#& being overly polite in thanking them for having u over & making sure its a two way street- like next time u host the potluck at ur place#because i was raised with Actual Literal Southern Hospitality i find myself judging anyone who doesnt naturally act this way here. STILL#& like i knowww i shouldnt because its literally an unfair expectation#& its not really {ahem white} Texan Culture(tm)#BUT STILL#some ppl here act so in ways so inconcievable to me#MY BEST FRIEND SAID HER BOYFRIEND DID NOT HELP HER MOVE OR PACK ANY OF HER MOMS STUFF FROM THEIR OLD HOUSE#I WAS LIKE EXCUSE ME?? WHAT DO U MEAN#he should be taking care of you AND ur widdowed mom when yall need help with stuff like that WHAT THE FUCK .?#was he just sitting at home playing fucking wow ?????#& then she was like 'well he still hasnt met my mom'#WHWHHHH .?.?.??#HE HASNT WHAT .?#she lives 5 minutes from her mom. by the way.#& spends her days off visiting & taking care of. her mom.#like theyre super close & her mom is ill.#ANd his ass hasnt .? met her? LET ALONE WOULDNT HELP YALL MOVE STUFF ????#insane behavior to me#the other reason i was thinkin abt this today is#i had Someone over last night & they ??? left a mess in my room like#they had to borrow smth that i had in a basket then they left all of the stuff that was in the basket on the floor#they left a half drank gatorade on my desk NEXT TO MY VERY EXPENSIVE LAPTOP & PC#left their charging sitting on my nightstand.#& most absurd- THEY DIDNT PUT THE CAP BACK ON MY TOOTHPASTE WHEN THEY WERE DONE.
