instead, anyone unfortunate enough to have spoken more than a sentence to me will have realized that i've spent that time in baldurs gate 3 hell, with nothing but durge brainrot to show for it—brainrot i will now inflict on main with some selected excerpts <3

The princess does not have a name beyond her title. The knight is called Griseis. She speaks it aloud. There is no tugging at her memory, no rush of truth. Yet it is the name of a creature with the purpose to vanquish, same as her, and all those with a purpose must have a name.  “My name is Griseis,” she tries. It holds no magic, but she likes the way it rests upon her tongue, like it could belong there. She slips the waterlogged fairytale into her pack.

Yet beneath the drone of busywork, the urges remain. They bid her to tear the legs off a rabbit caught in the brambles that surround the garden, and Atonement endures. A stained glass window shatters, and they bid her to pick a shard off the floor and cut through Novice Clements’ fragile throat. Atonement endures. They infect her dreams. Behind her eyelids flicker visions of a temple in ruins, of Ilmater’s statue bathed in the blood of his faithful, so she works more, sleeps less.

And he laughs at her. Brings his uninjured hand to her jaw and pushes his thumb under her upper lip, using her own slack shock to pry her mouth open. Finger pressed against a sharp canine, “Look at you. Bhaal’s Chosen, the purest of his spawn, baring your teeth like a damn dog.” She doesn’t have to think about it. Put your hand by a dog’s mouth, and expect to get bitten. She bites.

But the painter who’d put her features to canvas saw something else, too. Maybe the taint in her blood had made it into the pigments. Maybe it’d been Bhaal himself guiding their hand, ensuring proper justice be given to his spawn’s visage. Griseis looks, and the Dread Lord’s Chosen looks right back.

This made me think, a little hard to write on the explaining, so that part is a little messy.. but ahhh, explaining to lil innocent kuni what the scene is... his flushed reaction... aah~ the possibilities?!

You're just relaxing in your room, writing some things down on a small paper. That's when you heard footsteps and the door open. You turn around and see that it's Kunikuzushi. You noticed that he had a book in hand. You greet him, asking what brings him to you, while you go back to your paper.

He walks next to you and sits down on the chair next to the desk. "Well I- there's this scene in the book and I don't understand.. it..?" He quickly opens up the book again and you put your pen down. Kuni shows you and you take it in your hands, reading. It takes you a moment to realize you're reading one of those spicy scenes. You stop reading as you widen your eyes, looking at him, back at the words and then back at him.

You put the book back in front of him, awkwardly laughing. "Well, that's- It's not really important, so you can just continue in the book," you say, smiling slightly at him, "It's not the the end, is it?" He nods, but continues to speak, "Well, yeah, but I want to know. She describes it as-" "I very well read what she described it as, Kuni," you chuckle, tapping your fingers against the desk, "But it's something you can learn later in life, you know-?"

"Why can't you just tell me?" He stares with a confused look, "Is it really that bad? The author certainly doesn't write it like that-" You let out a sigh, thinking, staring at the book. He leans down to meet your gaze, "Please?" You look at him. Is it really worth telling this pure soul what he just read? Well, his curiosity is adorable.. Oh dear. He won't back away that easily, so might as well just get over it, no?

"Alright, um," you start, clearing your throat, "Give me the book again." Kuni gives it to you and you head to the page. You read through the start of the scene and then a bit after, quickly grasping on what exactly you're about to explain to him. You're not sure if he genuinely does not know anything or maybe he knows something, just a little.. you hope he does, would ease your mind..

You start speaking, asking 'simple' questions first, such as how much does he know about anything related, and all that jazz. You're regretting everything as you're proven again that no, he does not know.

And so you explain. Bit by bit, you try your best to tell him that yes, that's seggs, and yes, a man has his dick inside a woman in the scene. And yes that they both receive pleasure. You tried your best, yet you had no idea what the fuck were you trying to say. But the more you tried to explain, the more you noticed his face getting hotter. He asks questions, you answer them.

At some point you shut up completely, seeing Kunikuzushi put his hands on his face for a moment. "Are you okay?? I know this is a very awkward topic, I don't know if I'm even telling you something," you chuckle a little. He takes his hands away and swallows. Kuni looks back at you, shifting in his seat, "..And how do they- how does that feel?" You blink. Thinking for a moment, you respond, "Well, it usually feels good, the author wrote it as.. well, we both read it."

"Have you done it?" His gaze is unfocused. You shake your head, "No, but I've read of it, maybe seen it, and few of my friends speak of it." It's silent, Kuni being lost in thought. Then he whispers an "Could we try it?" Your eyes widen at that. He looks at you with a pleading look, "Pleaase? I want to know how that is.." "Kuni, this is something you should really think about first-" You quickly respond, but he interrupts you.

"Please?"

..You can't say no to that, can you?

So with few more sentences, and him being eager to have you show him, you and him were on the bed. Your hand held his face as you told him how to kiss, Kuni immediately pressing his lips against yours when you stop talking.

Then you had him part his lips, so you could show him more how a kiss can be. Your hand on his cheeks, the other at his waist. In between kisses, he's telling you how he's feeling weirder and hotter. Each of your soft touch on his body was making him shudder and make noise in your mouth.

"Are you sure?" You ask again, hand tracing his arm. He nods quickly, "Yes, yes, please." So you continued. You laid down while telling Kuni what to do, telling him that yes, you can touch that, yeah you can touch that as well. It seemed like he couldn't focus though, too much information, too much of your touch, your words, you. His hands were a little shaky, he was flushed and his eyes always went from your eyes to your body. After a moment, he just mumbled out an 'It's too much..'

You nodded, saying it's completely fine. You understand. You laid him down and got on top, indulging him another kiss. His hands went on your shoulders, moaning in the kiss when your hand trailed down his stomach. Kuni pulls away, bucking his hips, "Lower.. please, touch me-" So you did. And his head falls back as a whine comes through. You press a kiss to his cheek, "I'll show you what they did, alright?"

-Ego never mentioned or gave any hints of having a child towards the Blue Lock players, so you can imagine their surprise when Ego and Anri walked into the Blue Lock Eleven's locker room and Anri carried you in her arms

-of course, someone asked who you are. Ego took you into his arms and just answered "my biological offspring, my little (Y/N)-chan"

-"WHAT DO YOU MEAN EGO HAS A CHILD WHAT THE FUCK EGO GOT LAID???"- everyone.

-it's a bit hard for them to believe because never in their life would they have expected Ego to be a father, but in their opinion it also weirdly fits him???

-you have the same eyes as your father (without the eyebags, obviously) so the way you stare at everyone is kind of scary but also cute at the same time

-Ego keeps you in his arms while he holds his speech to the players before the game and you just stare at everyone with an o.o face

-Bachira actually gets a bit of cuteness aggression and really wants to squish your cheeks but he holds himself back. At first, at least. He ends up squishing your cheek "for good luck"

-when the match starts, you're sitting on Ego's lap and he's gently holding you. But his arms around you always get a little tighter whenever something intense happens during the match. So basically every few seconds

-you try to get his attention because to you, watching the match is boring since you're too young to properly understand anything about soccer. But Ego is too busy focusing on the match, he can't properly give you attention so he just gives you over to Anri

-you're used to that so it's nothing that bothers you, plus you love Anri a lot, she's a bit like an aunt to you

-Anri actually struggles a bit with you because she has to pay a part of her attention to the match and another part of her attention to Ego as well

-but!!! There are still the benched players. You kind of won the heart of some of them, so they talk to you and give you some attention while Ego and Anri are busy

-in the last few minutes of the match, you're back on your father's lap and he squeezes you even tighter than in the beginning. Sometimes even so tight you barely get air anymore and Anri has to loosen his grip around you. Ego always feels a bit bad for accidentally squeezing you so tight, but the game gets too intense over and over he can't help but do it again

-even though you have no idea what's going on, you notice how happy everyone including your father is when the Blue Lock Eleven wins, and your dad being happy makes you happy as well!!!

-a bit later back in the locker room, Bachira actually gets to hold you and he lets all the cuteness aggression out by squshing your cheeks and tickling you. It also helps him calming down after the match

4402's zombie au notes and commentary

so obviously i started thinking about this au for this request but let me tell u! when it comes to big aus like these one of the best starting points for me is to think about the worldbuilding. which i guess always happens with me, but the thoughts i had on how the characters translate to an apocalypse setting plus not abiding by other media rules on zombies was simply too much to think about that couldn't get covered in that fic! so here u go! free brainrot material! obvious spoilers for that fic btw

i didn't want to tie myself down with the mechanics of zombies, esp ones we already know from other media like the walking dead or whatever. so a lot of the terminology here is vague. the "outbreak" can refer to an illness just as well as an infection or mutation or even an invasive species, but the important part is that it's highly contagious, kills, and then regenerates the body FAST once it comes in contact with blood

on that note. it is confirmed topical/parenteral contact with the zombie spreads the condition, but when reader tastes the blood on their face in the final scene, uh, bad news for them, oral administration/digestion would not end well

every character has a role in their party. shu is the brains (and was a lot more of a support than leader before the events of the fic), while luca is the brawn. vox and ike are doers- vox is an active presence and throws himself into danger, while ike stays behind and makes sure the little details run smoothly. mysta was the moral compass that made sure everyone's spirits were high enough to avoid conflict. and reader is an observer. they usually intake information faster than the rest of the crew, and know how to perceive when things aren't adding up

every character has a weapon, and i wanted these to be more unconventional ones to really hone in the apocalypse theme. i almost gave vox a machete but i figured that's only something rural homeowners would have on hand (i wanted everyone's origins to be vague so this fic is more relatable) and also, it's a little too on the nose, no? besides, using a rebar ripped from a broken building? that's metal as fuck

when i started the fic shu was entirely an improvised weapon guy. lots of disposable things. the molotov was a reference to his fire sorcery, and millwall bricks are made entirely from newspaper. as i continued i realized he needed something consistent, so he got a fire poker as another reference to his lore

luca is the only person with two weapons, a shotgun and a spiked bat. he's the muscle after all! i tried to veer away from lore bc obviously some luxiem would have a huge advantage if they had, say, demonology or curses available. but i will say it's probs canon he's been around the block at least, no comment on if he was actually a mafioso or not. either way. he's the only one there that really understands firearms and how to stay calm until you really need it, and the spiked bat is his default. it's brutal and easy to use

reader uses two climbing picks. i'm not totally sure why, but for the past few months i've been enamored with climbing picks as a weapon. watching the new puss and boots last month didn't help either. they're like sickles, but less difficult to use since they aren't as curved. and they're practical outside of a fight too! this is the important part about why reader uses them. they're observant. sure, there's more conventional weapons in the party, but the picks are multiuse, and can get you out of a pinch, like how you and vox scaled the townhouse to escape. total bummer you were trapped underground, though

ike... okay. i'm not immune to eki. and it's just that he pairs so well with knives, no matter how hard i tried i always came back to them! more specifically how he has a set, not just one. the others don't come into play but he has a full set of kitchen knives- the others, he meticulously cleans and uses when preparing food or shelter. the largest chef's knife is dedicated for zombie slaying, and the cleaver can cut through bone. you have to use force to use a cleaver correctly. it's impractical for when a zomb's in your face, but give him the time and he can confirm none of them rise again. one of the may ways he stays in the background and makes sure everything is going to plan even when his assistance isn't really flashy

i never wrote him using it but mysta had a woodcutter's hatchet. he also chose his weapon for practicality like reader and ike. however, if you know anything about realistic axe fighting, it's that woodcutter axes are wildly different from fighting axes. the former is extremely heavy while the other is light. once you swing with a woodcutter's hatchet you can't stop. he was looking for a lighter alternative before the townhouse incident, like a proper weapon or a fireman's hatchet, but. well. um

mysta himself is more of a concept than a character in this fic. he definitely had a presence in the party before the events but there's a reason he never had any dialogue. he represents the morale of the party just as much as he does the unreachable sun. "because mysta died" is an unspoken motivation for just about everything the characters do in this fic, and his name becomes synonymous with a peaceful afterlife after hell on earth. when the characters can't even utter his name, it's because that peace is so far away they can't possibly fathom it

the luxiem + reader dynamic was way more lighthearted before mysta's death. it wasn't all joy, because hello, zompocalypse! but it was enough. his death is what kickstarts the animosity, as well as the trauma responses of the rest of the guys. ike's is mentioned by reader a few times and shu's grief is a source of tension but the rest of luxiem wasn't as focused on

vox is characterized with this heroic, "it's up to me to make things right" type of savior complex. mysta's death is the first time things have gone so horribly wrong, and the way that he sees it is like, "i watched him get swarmed, and if i could watch him then i could've ran and fought. my inaction is the reason why he died". even the way he breaks the news to shu and the gang is presentational because he detaches himself from reality for this whole hero thing, even though he doesn't recognize it himself. he's very dramatic. but he also deflects emotion in pursuit of action, like telling shu to set the townhouse on fire, and ignoring reader's concern over him. his last action is attempting to save reader and ike even when he knows there's nothing he can do, and all he has to show for it is his hand getting crushed by a piece of rubble that falls on it

i am VERY PROUD of how i wrote luca. which is to say i didn't write him at all. his characterization is invisible and that's what makes me so happy about it! i feel awful for him them most out of anyone here! vox witnessed mysta get swallowed up by the horde but luca was there with mysta the entire time, and when mysta sacrificed himself so luca can live, luca froze in shock and fear. he never gets over that moment. and luxiem doesn't mean to exclude him, but they're so worried over shu's meltdown and what to do next and this and that to read how mixed all his feelings are on it. vox is fixated on protecting him, and when he's in shock ike hides luca's vision so he's the only one that doesn't see mysta's silhouette in the townhouse before it goes up in flames. i... don't want to give away the answer, i'm sure rereading will identify it, but there's this one line of dialogue that sums up everything he's going through perfectly, and even reader the observer doesn't notice it like how he wants it to be noticed. my heart bleeds for him. when the ceiling collapses reader is struck by how he freezes, and it's a reprise of mysta's death for him. he's not getting over that either. after all he's the muscle but what good is muscle if it can't move?

shu,,,,,, if there's anything that i can say it's that he's not trying to be the villain. he had to mercy kill his brother in one of the most brutal ways imaginable, and then had to speedrun the five stages of grief because someone needs to lead this team. vox tries to lead just as much as shu does, but luca makes a good point. i don't think shu hates them at all. he's a very mama-bear type of character. he has a clear vision in mind of what he wants the path to look like, and anything outside of his vision is uncertain and thus dangerous. but luca makes a good point, and how malicious it's intended to be, i can't say, but he shuts down vox and luca a lot. he would never admit it during the events of the fic but there is a very ugly, very cavernous part of his soul that wants to blame someone, plural

so reader and ike are dead right. those two were the most mentally healthy(?) of the group, or at least, the ones that could help the group manage stress the best. now all that's left is vox, who hates himself for failing to save his friends three times now; shu, who already wasn't taking mysta's death well and certainly isn't going to do any better with the latest casualties; and luca, who everyone wants to protect and no one wants to listen to, and can barely get a word in between shu and vox's fights, and knows he doesn't have the instinct to act when it matters. i wish i had the clarity of mind to see and write their travel together. two of them were already at each other's throats, and the third is about ready to snap. i wish i could tell you how they destroy one another

there were so many points in this fic where i had to ask myself, am i going too far? this happens often, especially with angst, especially with romantic x readers. sometimes i wish i could describe ugliness! snot from crying and screaming so hard you retch in chunks, contortion, all that noise! when i get an opportunity to describe gore i fuckin' take it because that's pretty grody but in a hot bloodshed way. lots of other nastiness isn't very attractive, though, and the point of romantic x readers is to be attractive. so these "should i take a step back" moments really come in through with shu's breakdown, which was written to be as visceral and scathing and uncomfortable as possible. in early-early planning mysta was originally intended to been bitten and turned as you would expect, but the fire was added to it promptly to continue the plot- and when i wrote it, i felt so awful, it was such a brutal way to go out. that's when i figured i just need to commit to the thought, make things feel raw and tangible instead of manicured, and that i'd just be generous with tags. i'm very glad i stayed committed. even though i had to take so many mini breaks in ike's final moments to just look up and mutter to myself "man i'm so fucked up for this one". i'm also very glad that i knew reader would've blacked out and repressed the memory of killing ike, because i did say earlier, cleavers cut through bone. i love a good bloodfest but i think i gotta draw the very-far-away line at ike's head split apart, hotdog not hamburger

for uriel: pretty soon after he came to stillwater, uriel took up the habit of smoking; being an angel, it doesn't TECHNICALLY affect him? but it does still make him more prone to agitation when he goes without smoking, even if it doesn't technically have any ill affect on his overall health

vul: stress-eating; due to her food anxiety, she has a tendency to eat when stressed, occasionally over-eating and making herself sick, and often indulging in mortal foods that don't actually have much (if any) nutritional value to her.

parachute: who does your OC(s) trust the most? who makes them feel safe? who would they do absolutely anything for?

uriel again bc brainrot lmao: with absolutely no contest, johnny gat; he would literally subject himself to the depths of hell (ironic innit?) for gat. johnny was the first mortal that uriel ever became close to and genuinely fond of, and through him he slowly learned to value SOME mortal life, and grew closer to other members of the saints as well---though johnny remains the one he's by far the closest to.

shang: oh man here's an oc i NEVER talk about LMFAO, my very first mh oc<3 shang is a surly, ill-tempered man who seldom trusts people, vastly preferring the company of monsters thanks to having been raised by one; the ONE person who makes him feel the most safe, that he trusts in absolute and would do anything for, is his fiancé, rhost, the admiral. despite his natural mistrust towards and aversion of hunters, he and rhost operate on nearly the same (extremely poor decision making) wavelength, with a fierce loyalty to and understanding of each other that few other people (monster or otherwise) could ever hope to have for either of them.

hobby: what do they love? what captivates them? what are their passions?

lokzii: lokzii adores gardening, cooking and making tea; though he typically assumes his mortal guise to purchase food ingredients from markets, he grows almost all of the herbal ingredients for his tea himself in a quaint, peaceful garden, nestled in a ruined courtyard that is bathed in the sapphire star's light every night. he also tends to various flowers and a few fruit-bearing plants as well.

the alatreon: here's an oc i haven't talked about here before! the alatreon's favourite hobby is... experimentation. given how it views most other beings as inferior to itself, it finds enjoyment in "experimenting" on them; this can range from simply intentionally setting up some sort of situation for one to fall into so to observe how it plays out, to testing what would happen if it injected raw dragon element directly into another being's bloodstream.

This is a brainrot question but I just realized you wrote my favorite hill house fic about theo and olivia and i was wondering if you think there are similarities btwn how olivia handled the situation with the bullies and with theo's really tough time and how moms karolina and shiv would?

oh my god now we are TALKING. firstly that's one of the fics most near and dear to me and any time i find out someone has read it i get so so happy so thank u :') <3333 if u haven't read my theo & olivia fic this might be a little confusing but under the cut for a long ramble about this topic lol

interestingly there are definitely some similarities!! it's funny that there are, because my characterization of olivia in that fic is based on the concept of olivia + the forever house, which is very much an idealized version of olivia, and when i think of shivlina as parents they are entirely NOT idealized. at the same time, olivia & theo's relationship is strained in that fic, and would've been regardless of how perfect i could've made olivia, and that is due to the center of it being a worried mother who can't figure out how to help her child no matter how hard she tries or how much she wants to, which leads to bad choices and arguments and a lot of resentment on both ends, and i actually do see a lot of that in shivlina!

idk if you have seen some of the posts about talia (oc shivlina child) and karolina, but i guess thinking about it now, that relationship plays out pretty similarly to theo & olivia where talia is acting out and generally not being very kind or forthcoming to karolina, and karolina simply just doesn't know/understand why she can't just be let in (which would majorly solve part of the problem, as we see in the hill house fic!!!), and it does become this spiral of overcompensation (olivia grasping on to any bonding moment she can with theo, no matter how short-lived), of thinking maybe she needs to discipline more, (theo being more afraid to get in trouble than she cares about her own well-being), of thinking maybe she's too overbearing and if she steps away it'll be better (olivia letting theo stay out late, sleeping outside of her bedroom instead of trying to talk to her point blank), etc.

so side note: olivia and theo to me are more of a sign of the times; theo was afraid of the fallout of coming out, and olivia was afraid of pushing her before she was ready, because back then it would've been a much bigger deal, but it was still something she was just unprepared to handle, like she didn't know what to do or how to help & i see shivlina as those kinds of parents where they do love their kids and they do want to help but they just don't understand the source of the problem (and in shivlina's case, THEY are the problem = generational cycles), and because of that they also don't know how to fix it and they would certainly get desperate and they would make bad choices like i said earlier, but i think the heart of it, and why i love olivia crain so so much, is that they would love their children and truly want to do right by them, but it's hard!!! bc gay angsty teenagers are hard to deal with!!!!!!!! but they would figure it out too those fucking girlfails<3333

"all lesbian rep is always femme" it's not, actually. i literally never look on the screen and see femmes. we get hallmark channel blondes who look exactly like every other straight woman on tv. actual femmes are so beyond what's considered acceptable or normal for lesbians - in fact characters i would call femme are usually very pointedly straight and usually shamed/demonized, with their appearance a pointed commentary on why they're bad people, from slutshaming to the selfish material girl trope, unless it treads into the "weird" category for straight people, in which case they're always oddball lonely cat ladies nobody likes.

but even then, the distinct things that i recognize in femmes (queercoding, if you will,) are always absent, because they are deviations from the male gaze. femininity is expected to be a performance for the male gaze, femininity embraced by lesbians is literally the opposite. guess what we see on tv?

and i don't say this to be like "ooh femmephobia is real!" rather, my point is that media just hates lesbians. and i dislike when people say "all we see for lesbian rep is femmes," because we don't see femmes, we see feminine people playing a lesbian based on a straight interpretation of what femme and the female gaze is. they literally don't understand it. there is no gender nonconformity, no actual femme coding on any of these characters; what you mean by "femme" is they wear makeup and maybe high heels.

media hates lesbians. butch rep is utterly abysmal, and I'm begging y'all to reframe how you look at what rep we do have, because continuing to call what they give us "femme" is a disservice to lesbians. straight people do not understand that there are different ways to be a woman or perform femininity, so all we get for lesbian rep are straight women and straight interpretations of lesbians, not femmes. please don't disrespect lesbians by acting like any of what we get qualifies as rep for butches and femmes, because it doesn't, and it won't without direct queer involvement because straight people are incapable of understanding what we are or even look like.

I'll never forgive tumblr for being so quick to shit on the concept of "queer platonic" relationships bc even outside of asexual/aromantic relationships, the bond I've shared with other queer women in a non romantic, non sexual way has been wildly different and more intimate than any friendships I've ever had with cishet people, even when we're not as close as my cishet friends. the fact that y'all were like "relationships are strictly within these categories there is only familial, platonic, sexual, and romantic" like yall pls 😭 queer connection and bonding is so much deeper and more complex than that. get offline and connect with some of your community i beg

For post-canon hcs I don't think I have anything that controversial/revolutionary but I do have some Thoughts. Well, we pretty much know that Ryunosuke is going to help reform the Japanese legal system. I feel like Susato is def going to help him and maybe even appear in court as Ryutaro a few more times (though ideally they'll be able to allow women to appear in court)

Susato def has a long-term relationship with Haori (maybe even lifelong, you know how historical gays are), she's a lesbian in my hc so def never marries a man (her father understands and is supportive ofc). I feel as if she also has some influence in martial arts circles in Japan! I'm not quite sure which martial art she's supposed to have studied (considering the time period and her background I'm guessing it would've been a form of jujutsu, but I'm not an expert by any means) but at the time of and after the Meiji restoration there was a lot of movement into modern martial arts such as judo so maybe she could be involved with that. And also have helped the progress of women in those fields!

Otherwise I feel like both Susato and Ryunosuke move between Japan and England quite frequently as they remain involved in the legal and social worlds of both countries. As technology progresses this will become a lot easier (though I'm sure WWI and growing geopolitical tensions might make things difficult from a practical perspective). I do feel like Susato might be more rooted in Japan and Ryunosuke more rooted in England but they both have strong ties to both countries. I think it would help if their family in England came to visit Japan more frequently too, aha

(This is mildly off-track but honestly at this point I'm thinking abt Sholmes (yes, I use the official translation for him bc it's Funny) retiring in Japan alongside Yuujin. for a lot of reasons. yeah. Also off-track but Iris has a very bright future ahead of her in England rather than being tied down by baggage like Herlock, so she would probably remain based there, but visit her father(s) often)

Oh and ofc Asoryuu. Ryunosuke and Kazuma probably travel together a lot and remain in a partnership for the rest of their lives (even if there are some roadblocks and difficulties along the way)

Honestly I'll probably keep thinking about this largely bc I was considering writing a fic exploring Phoenix's connection to his ancestor and also the influence of the events of DGS/TGAA on the modern Ace Attorney world!

sam n jerome brainrot but its after her first stay at arkham

jerome can tell that something is off.

at first he doesn't know what it is.

after all, he was brought back to life.

but it's probably little things.

such as her personality.

i hc/imagine jerome fell in love w the girl that could barely hurt a fly.

so when she has these... episodes? maniac episodes, he's starting to get suspicious.

obviously she hasn't told him.

her episodes include trying to harm herself and others.

so seeing his innocent girlfriend try hurting another person? a shock (although he might like it?)

noticing she'll talk to thin air

or just stare at herself in the mirror for extended amounts of time.

pulling at her hair or messing with her eyes or the skin of her cheeks.

watching her turning to face her side, watching her examine her side profile when he pretends to be asleep.

she's more cautious.

there's definitely been cases where she's just stared at jerome for long amounts of time.

he does eventually calm down.

he asks who sent her away, what happened to her.

jerome learns about her powers when she (accidentally) shifted into lee around him at one point or another.

learns what they did to her at indian hill too.

he doesn't understand how to help, but he does learn how to live with it. that comes in handy when the j squad is a thing.

so christmas break is coming and i've been wanting to start *and binge on* a new bl (that is if I'm not still utterly controlled by bad buddy brainrot lol). anyways, what i had in mind was manner of death. i've tried watching it before when it first came out but the first ep made me cringe sksk. i think there was an accidental kiss or sth like that? i don't really remember but i want to give it another chance. my question here is, is it worth it? (Well obviously yes, i know you love it) but like can you give me a mini review (or an in-detail review, whatever you're comfortable with), sth to hype it up. i really trust your judgement when it comes to this stuff

heyyy!! you're absolutely correct - i do, in fact, love it, it's my second favorite show, i think it's perfect. i'm going to give you a general gist of my feelings along with my dear friend and loyal companion @sporadicauthor's feelings, as i did ask them to help me out here as well (thank u so much ora <3). i kept it as not spoilery as i could, so you could enjoy the series to its fullest:

so, one of the most refreshing things about manner of death is that it's a story about queer people, but not necessarily a story about being queer. and there is nothing wrong with those stories, of course, but it's really cool to see two gay men just doing their thing, you know? it's a murder mystery that happens to have two male leads that are queer and in love with each other. that's fucking incredible.

in general, the series is amazing from start to finish to me - it hasn't disappointed me once: the pacing is perfect, there is no unnecessary drama or plot points, and an absolutely incredible ending. but speaking of the murder mystery specifically - it is good and it is the central point of the series. it's going to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time, trying to guess what's going on, who's in the right, and who's in the wrong. as a cherry on top - it's a murder mystery that does quite a good job of criticizing the system, especially the police, which is so rare and so amazing to see.

another rare thing to see is that we are actually dealing with adults here!! not high schoolers, not uni students, not even someone who's just out of uni - these are grown men meeting each other and falling in love!! i think this is so important to see, also because a lot of us queer alloromantic people miss those "milestones" early in life and get to really experience that side of life later than cishet people.

all characters in the series are very well-written - i can't say anything specific because figuring out the truth about every single person is a big part of the fun, but you will have plenty of people to love and hate, support and admire.

the relationship at the center is also amazing - despite the fucked up circumstances and some unorthodox things happening, they are ultimately equals who respect and support each other. they are in an established relationship throughout pretty much the entire series as well, which is also quite rare.

with that established relationship, you will see a lot of intimacy too - i say this with confidence, no other mlm series has this much intimacy between its leads. and i don't know if someone has told you this before, but in case you don't know - max and tul are some of the best actors we have ever had, and they are also very close, so the chemistry is off the charts.

i also love how the relationship is portrayed as something constant - a lot of the time, especially when the main focus of the series isn't just the relationship, in moments that aren't directly related to said relationship, the characters are often not really portrayed like they are in love, even though in real life you would always think of your partner regardless of what the situation is - manner of death understands this, and you will never feel as if the main characters suddenly don't care for each other the same way they do during the romantic moments because they are occupied with something else. that's what i mean by it being constant.

as a final small point, the series is also shot beautifully, in my opinion, and there is quite a bit of symbolism, which is always lovely.

so hopefully all of this convinces you to watch it, but if you have any follow-up questions - i will gladly answer them!!
