Call Me When You're Sober moodboard ❤️ find the moth!
"I needed so bad to say exactly what I was feeling for so long. Music is therapy for me. It's my outlet for every negative thing I've ever been through. It lets me turn something bad into something beautiful," said Amy about CMWYS. "It's mostly a chick anthem: 'You only want me when you're drunk. You only want me because I'm not there.' I definitely get a lot of girls who are like, 'That's my song." (x)

I feel like a lot of people meme on Evanescence for how melodramatic the lyrics to a lot of their songs are, but over ten years since I first heard their music and I still relate to a lot of the subject matter in their songs. Hell, for a lot of them I think I relate to them more now that I’m an adult than I did as a kid/teenager.
Maladaptive daydreaming, depression warping your sense of self, the toxicity of celebrity culture, stalkers, feeling burdened by expectations, learning to love yourself again after a dark period in your life. Imaginary in particular is the first song I remember really connecting with, taking in the lyrics and thinking “this song gets me.” End of the Dream, specifically the Synthesis version, is my favorite song period because it’s the closest thing Evanescence has to a “we’re so fucking back” song. Even the much memed upon Bring Me To Life is about realizing you’re in an abusive relationship and looking to others for help getting out.
All of these are strong themes to write a song about! I feel like a lot of people have the perception that the songwriting in Evanescence songs is all frilly gothic nonsense, being dark and somber just for the sake of it. They do have some songs like that (doesn’t mean they’re not bangers though), but most of their discography has a lot more depth to it than I think a lot of people give them credit for.
