Biosecurity ponownie

Rezerwat Tawharanui obejmuje półwysep na wschód od miejscowości Warkworth, godzinę drogi samochodem od Browns Bay. Oprócz dolin porośniętych rodzimym buszem (niech będzie, na użytek laika, że to dżungla), gnieżdżą się w nim zagrożone ptaki nowozelandzkie, między innymi kiwi.

Kolejny raz widać, że do ochrony tutejszych unikalnych gatunków podchodzi się bardzo poważnie. Cały pówysep jest odcięty od pozostałej części wyspy specjalnym płotem przeciw inwazyjnym ssakom drapeżnym:

Płot jest drobnooczkowy, zabezpieczony przed przejściem górą i podkopaniem. Przejazd dla samochodów otwiera się i zamyka automatycznie.

Szkodnikami, które ten płot ma powstrzymać, są sprowadzone lub przywleczone z Europy: jeże, tchórzofretki, łasice, wydry, szczury lub zdziczałe koty domowe. Wiele zagrożonych ptaków rodzimych gniazduje na ziemi, czyniąc swoje jajka łatwym łupem. Przez miliony lat, aż do przybycia Europejczyków, było to bezpieczne.

W związku z innym zagrożeniem (grzyb atakujący korzenie kaori), przy wejściach do parku umieszczone są bramki do samodzielnego oczyszczania butów i spryskiwania podeszw płynem przeciwgrzybicznym.

Personal experience with water 

Being able to capture those special moments, help keep the memory alive. These are some of the photos that I was able to capture up in Tawharanui, waking up especially early just to take them.

The crisp calm waters glistened with reflection. Bright orange and yellow-like tinfoil refection. A clear image and feeling of utopia. The crashing sounds of small waves hitting the smooth stone ground. As the stones get pushed and pulled as the tide comes in and out, you get this soft sound of stones hitting and rolling together. It's relaxing and calm, almost therapeutic. The ripples that stretch out to sea, as for the more circle ripples that happen around the rocks. The touch is cold for now, but as the day slowly goes on it's warm, and calming especially after a long row in the kayak. The small bubbles are created on the surface as air is pushed around the waves like a washing machine.

Bird in Motion

Tawharanui Peninsula has some of the best wildlife in the Auckland Region. Filled with Native birds from Kiwis to Tui’s. 

This photograph is was a attempt to sharply photograph a Bell Bird in Flight, from looking at this photo, I’ve seem to have captured the body and the background correctly but the wings disappeared in motion blur. 

Still its an artistic shot that I’m proud of (even though I wished I composed the frame better). Like how the body of the bell bird is focused and how the photograph shows how fast the winds move while about to take off from the branch.
