1850: Night at the Opera (in collaboration with The Royal Thornolia Chronicles)

After my months-long Celtic spree, the time has come to briefly return to my old era of interest...

May I present to you a small 1850s set, made together with amazing Ali, the author of @theroyalthornoliachronicles! We're both so excited to finally share it with you all 💗 Make sure to check Ali's post for her half of the collaboration - practically necessary if you want your mid-Victorian gentlemen to be properly dressed for the evening!

While Ali dealt with the men, I focused - surprise surprise - on the ladies. And made two evening dresses, both inspired by the same fashion plate from ca. 1850:

If you follow Ali's story, you probably remember that a certain mademoiselle Eleanor Valery wore the dress on the right to an opera event. The dress on the left also made a short appearance, as it (or rather: its beta version) was worn by my simself Cecile, who was kindly invited to participate in the evening as well (no, that's not my real name. I just asked my husband to give me a random female French name, and that was the first thing he came up with ;)). And so both dresses are named after those characters: Eleanor and Cecile.

Both come in 29 swatches and I swear all of those colour combos come straight from mid-Victorian fashion plates - even if Ali claimed some of them remind her of 1980s Barbies ;)

polycount: ca. 17K for Eleanor (that's HIGH my friends, you have been warned. Believe me or not, it's mostly the fault of all those tiny deco flowers) and 7,5 for Cecile

You might notice that they vary slightly in style, and that's because I put an insane amount of work into texturing Cecile, as somehow I couldn't get it to look any satisfactory with my usual methods. I love the result, but the whole process was so convoluted that I'm not even sure if I could still retrace all the steps, let alone redo Eleanor in the same style. So we're left with this small discrepancy between both dresses. Hope you don't mind!

A night at the opera - royalty and nobility attend the opening night of the new production of Lucia di Lammermoor at the Royal Opera. 

Downtown Zonneminster received its dose of glamour tonight with the opening night of the new production of Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor at the Royal Opera. Many of Simovia’s elite were in attendance, including HRM Queen Alma, HRH Prince Andrew and escorting the Queen, His Grace the Landgraaf van Hoensbroek. The Queen was wearing a beautiful green gown, paired with a kokoshnik tiara and diamond jewelry from the royal vaults. She seemed in high spirits and even indulged the photographers for a few photos with the Landgraaf. 

Also spotted on the red carpet was the newly engaged Jonkvrouw De Thier, on the arm of her fiancé, the Vorst De Geloes. The Jonkvrouw was dressed in a stunning blue velvet gown that matched her sapphire engagement ring, as well as the famed De Geloes sapphire tiara. 

The night seemed a success, though HRM Queen Alma was seen looking somewhat downcast after the second intermission in the royal box. Of course, it is possible that she was simply moved by the opera itself. 

The new production had set the opera loosely in mid-Victorian times, drawing inspiration from the lead soprano Alexandria Wenthworth’s Thornolian roots. The soprano performed the part beautifully, drawing a standing ovation after her performance of the famous mad scene. 

The production will run for the entire season and has already received overwhelmingly positive reviews from the major critics.

Is there any connection between Minnie and Henry’s baby names and the Royal Thornolia Chronicles?!?!?!

I see you’ve spotted my easter egg! While there isn’t any formal connection (meaning that Minnie and Henry aren’t, like, descendants of the Thornolia royals or anything), I am a die-hard Addy + Arthur stan and I wanted to throw a little Jonathan shade ;) @theroyalthornoliachronicles and I are friends and I wanted to have a little fun with it!

You will have to wait for the triplets to be born to see what the final names will be, but I think it would be funny to choose Adelaide, Arthur and Jonathan... decisions, decisions!

Premiere Season Continues with Bal Blanc

The end of such a wonderful array of royal festivities may be upon us, but those of us here can only imagine what news awaits us after this evening's bal blanc.

Yesterday's Présentation à la Cour has been said to be a great success, a feat we are sure Madame la Reine is revelling in, and rightly so. No news has arrived on our doorstep regarding the events which transpired at the inaugural event, but we are certain to hear more in the coming days. Was our Monseigneur L'Épin taken by any of the mademoiselles? Was the Madame Royale present? Do le Roi et la Reine have a preference yet?

Then again, why should we spoil any impending gossip before any news which might arise during the bal blanc? The Monseigneur will have his hands full with the decision of who he will grant his first dance, and of course, such a decision will certainly set not only the tongues of Thornolia's gossips wagging, but our own here at the Chronicle as well. I think it would be safe to say the Monseigneur better choose wisely.

Whatever his decision, we can only hope the mademoiselle lucky enough for such an honour is ready for the attention such a decision will garner. After all, his first choice may indeed be our future Madame L'Épine. Our first Madame L'Épine at that. These are impossibly large slippers to fill, and the woman our Monseigneur chooses will need the grace and steadfast resolutions to withstand all that may befall them in future. She may not have any actual role within the running of the country, but she certainly would be the heart of it all, and we cannot risk the Monseigneur choosing poorly.

1850's Menswear: A RoyalThornoliaChronicles and BatsfromWesteros Collaboration

Surprise! 

A project months in the making finally sees the light of day!

I'm so excited to introduce not only my first piece of CAS cc ever, but to also share with you thousands of recolours for these two suits. If you believe my use of the word 'thousands' is an overstatement...well...hold on to your bonnet. 

Each suit comes in six basic trouser colours (Black, Blue, Brown, Green, Red, and Purple), with each trouser colour coming with three separate package files: Solid, Patterned, and Plaid. Each of the solid and plaid files have 100 swatches, while each of the patterned files have 73 swatches. There is also a mourning set for each suit, coming with 44 swatches each.

In total? That's 3,364 swatches!

Anyone who knows me knows just how much I value variety, and while it seems excessive, I've never been more excited. Especially when it comes to making sure that our Mid-Victorian Men are given the variety they deserve.
