Mental Health Doodles?????
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Was informed rather late that Tuesday was World Mental Health Day, and that randomly made me go "ehhhh I wanna doodle some folks getting hugged or something", so. Here's that. Messy doodles of folks being supported by folks around them in some way, probably with hugs. I guess???? The premise here is really vague. Maybe I just wanted to doodle a little, pff.
First three are naturally characters from NomnomNami games, but that last one's my OCs just because I'm VERY EVIL. It may not be World Mental Health Day for anybody but folks in the Pacific timezones when this is posted, but y'know. Always gotta consider mental health etc etc.
(Also finally drew Drop and Trick interacting post Wormwood, wowza. This was so expeditious, pfff.....)

As someone who loves sweets, what fine desserts exist across Tamriel? I’ll bet the bosmer get super creative! And the Khajiit are sure winners.
Aside from candies and sweets, desserts across Tamriel reflect local tastes and vary in complexity, flavour, and texture.
Altmer
Dessert in Summerset is always served cool or chilled, and is bound to be just the right amount of flavourful and refreshing. Take, for example, the famous sorbet cups served everywhere from street corners in Alinor to posh dining tables. Some of my favourite flavours are candied cherry blossom, jasmine with dark chocolate chips, and mint with lime zest.
Argonians
Nothing beats the popping "onde-onde" balls beloved by Black Marsh residents. These sticky "cakes" are made of glutinous rice, and have a liquid coconut or palm sugar centre, and are liberally coated in shredded coconut. While small and easy to eat in a bite, the glutinous rice does get quite filling, so four is usually enough for dessert!
Bosmer
Custard, in its most perfect, creamy, glorious, silky form, is one of the staples of Valenwood desserts. Made with sugar mammoth cream and eggs, these lightly sweet custards are served as is, chilled, or topped with bacon bits for some crunch. My personal favourite is the non-Green Pact version of a creme brulee, where custard is drizzled with moon sugar and blasted with a flame spell until caramelised and crisp on top.
Bretons
The humble chocolate pastry is probably every Breton's favourite everyday treat, and for good reason. Sweet dark chocolate enveloped by buttery puff pastry is oh so simple yet oh so decadent. Best served with a cup of tea or coffee.
Dunmer
A traditional Dark Elf dessert loved by all from Mournhold to Windhelm is a deliciously weird "cake" made from a layer of sweetened glutinous saltrice, and topped with an equally-sized firm layer of marshmerrow custard. Served chilled, these "kueh salat" are enormously addictive and satisfying. One of my favourite desserts.
Imperials
Every Imperial dessert is enjoyable in my book, especially those containing a drop or two of something boozy. Take, for example, the humble tiramisu of Bruma. Almond and coffee and all things flavourful make up this rich, mascarpone-based cake, made traditionally with almond biscuits soaked in amaretto as a base. Topped with a mound of glorious cocoa powder, it's a sumptuous delight of a dessert.
Khajiit
Miso...caramel? Umami fermented soy bean paste meets rich moon sugar caramel for the ultimate flavour fusion that I certainly wasn't prepared for! Big batches of Miso caramel are always on hand in any confectioner's kitchen. It goes in everything from ice cream and cheesecake to being mixed with dulce de leche for an outrageously decadent pudding. On that note, I'll have one miso caramel pudding with a miso caramel cream coffee, thanks.
Nords
Steamed treacle pudding gets my vote as one of Skyrim's best desserts. Dense and gooey, and sometimes even drenched in mead, these puddings are served hot at every tavern (rivalling Breton sticky toffee pudding). Topped with whipped cream, the rich treacle is a real treat when poured over and infused into the rich butter pudding!
Orcs
Sweet potato pudding is a set custard infused with lots and lots of roasted sweet potatoes! Mashed and mixed into a plain creme patissiere, then swirled through with a spiced caramel swirl, these ganache-like treats are simply to die for (and you just might, if you try nick this off an Orc).
Redguards
Cardamom and saffron are ubiquitous in Redguard cooking, and this includes desserts. "Rasmalai", a dish made from fried, spongy patties of cottage cheese soaked in cardamon syrup, floating in a thick and sweet saffron and cardamom milk sauce. While it sounds a bit odd, rasmalai is a true treat for the senses, and is a rich and flavourful end to any meal.

Have continued my nomnomnami arc by knocking out Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet! Another solid, cute, vaguely yuri outing, as I have come to expect. I really liked all the characters, wanted to smooch a couple of em, and am looking forward to more Pastille and Treat in other stuff. (maybe there's more crossover? but those are the ones I know about) I feel like nami has the capability of going real dark and heartbreaking, but I've only seen a bit of that so far, so I'm kinda intrigued to see if they ever do fully go for the jugular. Gonna try to get my wife to play thissun, she'd like Syrup and Toffee I think. Toffee was prooooobably my favorite too, although I wouldn't mind seeing more of Milk Chocolate <____< IDK what's up next but that won't be the last of it for me :P
OH AND I don't think I posted about Princess Poffin either! I'M LOVE HER SHE SHOULD GET ALL THE SOCKS and hey bonus spider girl too!

I see it is time to teach you about the Canadian Treats And Snacks
Ketchup Chips - potato chips with a salty tomatoey dust on them, they're okay-ish but I prefer all dressed
Poutine - originally just frenchfries with gravy and cheese curds, but now you can get themed poutine (instead of gravy you can now get it with pulled pork, sometimes a taco themed one w ground beef n salsa, chili on top is a common one too)
Nanaimo Bars - A three-layered dessert often sold at bakesales or eaten during christmas. The bottom layer is like a soft cookie with chocolate and coconut (and sometimes nuts), the middle layer is like a custard, and the top layer is a very thin layer of milk chocolate! They're then cut into rectangles or squarwa.
Maple Syrup - tha syrup from tha maple tree, thicker than other syrups (in girlguides, canadian girl scouts, its common to get a clean sheet of snow and roll the snow up on a popsicle stick along with maple syrup to make like a frozen syrup popsicle)
Beaver Tails - fried, airy dough that's in the shape of a beaver tail. Often surved with icing sugar or cinnamon-sugar on top! It's our fair food!
Fry Bread - fry bread is just bread made by frying it in a pan, it can be eaten with sweet foods like honey or jam OR it can be eaten with beef and vegetables. Fry bread has a very complicated history too. If I remember correctly, it was introduced to the Navajo by the colonizers when forcing them to move territories. It kept them from starving, but deprived them of needed nutrients. It's still made today, though i haven't had it myself.
Canada Dry Gingerale - a white pop (or "soda") that's similar to sprite but it's better, it's like the ultimate mixer
Coffee Crisp - a chocolate bar with wafers in it and a slight coffee flavor. In the UK, they have the same thing made by the same company but its called "Toffee Crisp" and its just the same but toffee flavored.
Hawkins Cheezie - similar to cheese puffs but crispier and crunchier and the cheese flavor is overpowering (in a good way some how)
Hawaiian Pizza - This is just pineapple and ham on pizza, which I thought was an American food?
oh these all sound fantastic honestly. and yeah i think hawaiian pizza is an american invention? honestly i don't know lol. i did know that one and a few others, but beaver tail had me completely stumped.

Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet - Review (No pics for this one)
It’s always somewhat weird to review a visual novel; there is no gameplay per-se to talk about which is generally the focus of a game. This makes said focus shift towards the other parts of the game: sound, graphics and especially the story. Luckily enough, Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet does a great job in all three departments.
First comes the story; Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet’s story is a, pun intended, very sweet one. That said, the general plot is somewhat weak, there are no pressing stakes or anything really driving it; even the so called Ultimate Sweet only comes in the latter half of the game. Luckily enough, the game is much more about the character interactions than about the plot itself and it definitely does a good job at those.
Everything starts when Syrup finds a candy golem in her lab one day. Being an alchemist who hates magic, her first thought is someone must be attempting to pull a fast one on her. After talking to her assistant, Pastille, he convinces her to keep the golem helping in the candy shop they run together.
During the story Syrup also runs into her rival, the witch Butterscotch, and her cat familiar, Toffee. The relationship between them is a love-hate one, where despite being rivals Butterscotch ironically is Syrup’s best client. As the story progresses, the relationship between these two can change depending on the choices the player makes, leading to several different endings.
The game’s graphics are also really good, with unique background and character designs. There is also a gallery menu where several extra illustrations can be viewed, as well as those that appear during the game itself.
Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet also as a really good soundtrack, though the individual songs are quite short so they tend to cycle a lot. There is no voice acting at all, which is a shame since it would’ve added flavor to the characters.
As previously mentioned, the game has several endings, around 10. These endings change based on how Syrup’s relationships develop, with every ending involving at least one of the main characters. The answers to the choices required to unlock these endings are somewhat sketchy; sometimes it may appear like the exact same selection of answers landed a different ending.
It is also worth mentioning the length of the game; it can be completely finished in about an hour. Even the longest endings take 15 minutes or so at best. It’s quite a shame, since it’s a really entertaining game.
As always with games, but especially with VNs, it really comes down to personal preference when talking about how good the story is. Different people may find it better or worse, but it is definitely entertaining enough to give it a shot. For those that are unsure if the game is worth it, the PC and mobile versions can be played for free (the PC one is on a pay-what-you-want model, I’d recommend supporting the creators). The soundtrack can also be found independently over at https://mockoff.bandcamp.com/album/syrup-and-the-ultimate-sweet-ost

In case you missed it or just haven’t heard, there’s a limited-time campaign going on right now to preorder a BAD END THEATER Underling plushie!! One month to purchase yourself an Underling... and then, never again!!!!!!! Maybe? Who knows. Certainly a limited run either way though.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9M-q7vXb3U
I saw the Trick newsletter for this month, though, with them holding the plushie, and my brain randomly thought that it’d be cool to have all the other genderqueer folk do that, as well, and so....... HERE’S THAT!!! ...Unless I missed somebody? I don’t think I did, but I might’ve???
And for those more daring, I made a version with a couple Syrup 2 characters, so, uh... character spoilers for Syrup 2 I guess!!! (Mostly just in a way of “these characters exist and they’re genderqueer”.) Syrup 2 character version!!!
Anyway, hopefully we can all enjoy our Underling plushies when they’re shipped out in October or so!!!!
