Mini-review:

I had so much fun watching this! I feel like the movie's tonal shifts and mixtures might be a bit too jarring for some people, but they worked perfectly for me. Most of the comedy lands pretty well, and the dramatic moments strike a nerve. There are even some effective jump-scares here and there! But the thing that takes the film to the next level is the acting. Greg Hsu and Austin Lin deliver flawless performances that really draw you in. People expecting a full-on gay romance will be disappointed, cause that's not what the story is about at all, but the chemistry between these two actors is fantastic and energetic. The directing is also dynamic and keeps you on the edge of your seat. That being said, the movie is not perfect. It tends to represent gay people in a way that feels somewhat stereotypical, and I think it could have delved much more into the social issues it addresses. I know the film has the best of intentions, but yeah, it could still be better in that regard. Anyway, Marry My Dead Body is a very fun experience, filled with humor, drama, action and great performances.

Adorable idea:

Bi Han (post noob saibot) is forced to work with his estranged brother Kuai Liang again for the sake of the realm. They’re arguing is interrupted by Bi Han’s five year old son, Wáng calling him sobbing because some children were mocking his tail. Bi Han gently comforts him and tells him that he loves him more than anything in the world, that he’s shouldn’t worry, and that he’ll be home soon to see him. Kuai Liang is shocked seeing this gentle side from Bi Han and watches the sweet conversation silently. When Bi Han hangs up:

“Sorry, he’s an incredibly sensitive boy.”

Kuai Liang: “It’s alright, is he okay?

Bi Han: “He’s been having a hard time making friends since he bit that boy’s finger off, the boy got his finger back and Wáng didn’t mean to hurt him of course, but now those brats are shunning him.”

Kuai Liang: It must be hard for him, being a hybrid.

Bi Han: I fear it will only get harder.

Kuai Liang pauses and then speaks again. “Perhaps, I could bring around my boys once in awhile. I’m sure having his cousins in his life will help with his loneliness.”

Bi Han looked at his brother. Secretly touched by the suggestion. “Yes, I’m sure he’d love that.”

Bi Han didn’t tell his brother how much he’d like that too.

"Adventure Time" Returns to Comics

Oni Press, Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, and Cartoon Network are partnering on new compendium collections of Adventure Time comics for 2024, followed by a new Adventure Time comic book series launching in 2025.

The compendium collections being with Adventure Time Compendium Vol. 1, collecting the first 35 issues led by Ryan North and containing artwork by Shelli Paroline & Braden Lamb, Mike Holmes, Jim Rugg, T. Zysk, Kat Philbin, David Cutler, Ian McGinty, Jesse Tise, Carey Pietsch, Yumi Sakugawa, Liz Prince, Becca Tobin, Missy Peña, Jeffrey Brown, Jess Fink, and Dustin Nguyen.

Adventure Time Compendium Vol. 1, featuring a cover by Chris Houghton, goes on sale in October 2024.

Adventure Time: The Fionna and Cake Compendium collects Natasha Allegri's Adventure Time with Fionna & Cake #1–6 and Adventure Time with Fionna & Cake: Card Wars #1–6 from writer Jen Wang and artists Britt Wilson and Betty Liang, and shorts from creators N.D. Stevenson, Lucy Knisley, and Kate Leth.

Adventure Time: The Fionna and Cake Compendium goes on sale in November 2024.

New Adventure Time graphic novels and comic book series will begin publication in 2025.
