National White Chocolate Cheesecake Day
Elegance and delight come together on this day because today is all about white chocolate cheesecake. With the creamy goodness of cheesecake and the sweetness of white chocolate, many people think that it’s hard to find a more delicious dessert!
National White Chocolate Cheesecake Day is a day dedicated to celebrating this delightful combination in all of its glory. So grab a plate, get a slice of cheesecake, and dig in as everyone learns about the origins and celebration of this amazing dessert.
History of National White Chocolate Cheesecake Day
Throughout history, it is believed that the ancient Aztec and Mayan people consumed chocolate, or rather specifically the cocoa bean, by turning it into a drink and including it in religious rituals. Once Europeans were introduced to the marvel of chocolate and its benefits, many early Europeans would drink chocolate as a beverage. Soon, down the line of history, people started experimenting with chocolate in other ways, including making it into a solid chocolate bar.
Soon after, the combination of chocolate cake arose when, throughout the 19th century, people started using chocolate and powdered cocoa in baked goods. This promoted the marketing value of chocolate in desserts and increased the motivation for chocolate makers to produce it and encourage people to be creative with it in their kitchens.
White chocolate, on the other hand, appeared much later on, when the Nestle company began making white chocolate in the 1930s in Europe. Also at the heart of its creation was Kuno Baedeker, who developed white chocolate in 1945 in North America.
Cheesecake, on the other hand, has a more direct and recent line of history that can be traced down through a few decades. During the 1930s, the famous New York style cheesecake began at a restaurant called Lindy’s in Manhattan, the first restaurant to ever create the delicious combination of cream cheese and cake into one delicate treat. Lindy’s was beloved for its creation of cheesecake, and was also known for its famous clientele, including Harpo Marx, Woody Allen, Al Jolson and Milton Berle.
While the restaurant sadly closed its doors in the 1960s, the owner of the restaurant had released their sought-after cheesecake recipe out to the public in the 1930s through the magazine, Duncan Hines, which critically acclaimed high-quality restaurants for their food innovations.
Today, there are many different kinds of cheesecakes out there that can be made, and white chocolate cheesecake is just one of the tasty creations that will make your mouth water for more. And that’s exactly what today is all about!
How to Celebrate National White Chocolate Cheesecake Day
National White Chocolate Cheesecake Day can be loads of fun to celebrate in all different types of delicious ways. Try out these fund ideas for enjoying this day or come up with some other creative ideas of your own:
Pick Up a White Chocolate Cheesecake at a Bakery

Head on over to a specialty bakery or a famous restaurant that serves cheesecake and have a taste of that white chocolate, cheesy goodness.
Eat White Chocolate Cheesecake at a Restaurant
Of course, the best cheesecake restaurant will change based on each location, but here are some fun options that people might want to try in celebration of this day:

Gail’s Bakery, Soho, London, UK. Among a passel of baked goods and dessert items sits the featured item that this day is all about: white chocolate cheesecake. Pop by Gail’s in London or order a full sized cheesecake and have it delivered.
Junior’s Restaurant and Bakery, New York City, USA. Since the original creator of the cheesecake in the city is no longer in operation, people in New York will have to find another place to celebrate this day. Junior’s offers the ambience of a classic diner and they call themselves the “Home of the World’s Most Fabulous Cheesecake”. Their cheesecakes can also be purchased at many grocery store chains throughout the United States.
Make a White Chocolate Cheesecake at Home
Those who are feeling a bit adventurous in the kitchen might want to celebrate National White Chocolate Cheesecake Day by trying out a recipe online and making it yourself. Many different websites have lists of recipes for white chocolate cheesecake that can surely be tried and home–and they’re likely to be absolutely delicious!
Get Creative with White Chocolate Cheesecake
White Chocolate Cheesecake doesn’t have to be the same old thing. Put that imagination to the test and get creative with different ideas for ways to incorporate the white chocolate cheesecake theme into other unique recipes.
White Chocolate Cheesecake Cookies. Incorporating cream cheese, white chocolate chips and the other ingredients normally included in cookies, these bite sized treats are a delicious way to celebrate the flavor of the day.
White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake Bars. Take this delicious combination of flavors to the next level by adding raspberries, for a tart and fruity taste. A graham cracker crust completes the ensemble.
White Chocolate Cheesecake Brownies. These use a basic brownie recipe, but swirl a white chocolate cheesecake into the center. It’s absolutely divine!
Share this day on social media and let friends know it’s time to indulge with some delicious dessert. Tell them that it’s time to celebrate National White Chocolate Cheesecake Day and invite them along for the fun!

Character Coffees
Another author friend of mine said for character building she always figures out everyone's go-to coffee drinks/morning beverages. So I thought I'd give it a try! I am doing their regular orders from The Java Tavern, though... just for extra fun. :)
I have the characters listed in order from Main Character all the way down to antagonists that make more than one appearance. No spoilers given away for storyline because these are strictly in reference to their characters!
Eliza Woods- Drip coffee. Sometimes she adds a little sugar and creamer depending on the time of day. Her first cup of the day is always black, though.
Bartholomew “Barry” Digby – A strong black tea with two lumps of sugar. If he was still alive, that is. Scones or biscuits.
Khai Enache – Double shot Americano, two pumps Hazelnut, one pump Amaretto, and creamer. With cookies. Any kind of cookies that don’t have dried fruit in them. Khai hates dried fruit in pastries.
Chad Miller – Caramel Latte, typically iced. Rarely hot. And 2, or maybe 3 of whatever pastries look the most appetizing that day.
Phoebe Kirkpatrick – Iced Chai Latte. No matter the weather or time of year. She always tries the new pastry of the day, especially if it’s a new creation that her BFF, Eliza, created. If she’s on the run she’ll pop in for a Baby Muffin and her ice latte.
Charles “Charlie” Hardy – Black drip coffee because it’s free when he’s in uniform, and he’s always in uniform. Sometimes he’ll order half a dozen chocolate chip cookies (to go) with his free coffee. If he’s drinking his coffee in house he’ll grab a piece of pie.
Lexi – Two shots of espresso straight up or she’ll pour them over steamed oat milk with two pumps of caramel, two pumps pumpkin syrups. Seasonally, of course. Lexi likes to follow the flavor trends of the year. Pumpkin, Irish cream, peppermint mocha, you name it. She’ll add those syrups accordingly.
Gregor – Iced drip coffee with creamer and whatever fun concoction of syrups he decides for the day. Gregor likes to mix it up and experiment with his basic drip coffee over ice. Consistent but unexpected, just like Gregor himself. He also prefers any flavor pies to anything else Eliza makes just out of personal preference. Secretly, he thinks the baby muffins are disgusting.
Carly – Cappuccino. Carly is more likely to order a hot tea but some mornings she needs a little coffee in her sugary milk to get her going and that’s perfectly fine. Carly adores the mini cheesecake pies, plain, no toppings.
Nellie – Hot drip coffee with two shots of hazelnut syrup and honey. No cream. Nellie loves the white chocolate macadamia nut cookies and coffee crumble muffins.
Myles – Earl Grey tea with two shots of lavender syrup, on ice or hot depending on the weather. Scones or toasted English muffin with butter. Apple fritters if they’re fresh.
Tara – Caramel Macchiato, extra cream, extra foam. A baby muffin or another savory pastry. Taco pastries are her favorites so she always goes to The Java Tavern on Tuesdays or has Lexi grab her one before they sell out.
Tiffani “Tiff” Harris – Hot chocolate. Tiff doesn’t need coffee. She’s fueled by hate and chaos. Also, she doesn’t eat carbs. How boring.
Talbot Chandler – Double shot of espresso with steamed milk instead of water, two pumps of amaretto and a packet of sugar. Not too hot, will ask for ice cubes to go in his coffee if it is too hot to consume immediately. Talbot always orders a chocolate crescent to go with his very particular coffee order and is livid if there aren’t any available.
Well, there you have it. Everyone's Java Tavern order. That was kind of fun! I really needed think about some of them. A few of the characters have already established their regular beverages in the books, others I had to create from scratch!

Yogurtland, 271 Avenida Del Norte, Redondo Beach, CA 90277
Tumblr media
Fro-yo girl here. Grab a cup of self-serve froyo from this Yogurtland location in Riviera Village and then stroll a few blocks over to the beach. Yogurtland opened in a small strip mall here in 2009 (anchored by Trader Joe’s). When I visited, there were no parking space in the free lot but I found a space in the paid lot which is also very close. It’s a smaller, narrower Yogurtland but still offers 16 flavors a day and toppings for 55 cents an ounce (cheaper than Menchie’s in Redondo Beach even though YL is in a nicer area).
It looks like the typical Yogurtland inside: 16 self-serve froyo flavors a day, 2 cup sizes, bathroom, green square tiles. Self-serve is back but I don’t think they allow sampling. Toppings included sauces (no chocolate shell), fruit, popping boba, cookies, cereal, candy, nuts, chocolate chips, mochi, cookie dough, brownies, etc. There was no whipped cream. They had fewer toppings than most YL locations.
They’re currently offering a few new items that aren’t self-serve: acai bowls, pitaya bowls, and Mexican style fruit bowls.
Froyo flavors of the day:
Toasted coconut
White chocolate macadamia
Rocky road
Sumatra coffee: One of my favorite YL flavors and one that I haven’t found for a long time, still loving it – the coffee is distinctive but not overpowering or bitter, creamy, smooth and not super sweet
Cheesecake
Plain tart
Fresh strawberry
Citrus C sorbet
Vanilla ice cream
Chocolate ice cream
Alphonso mango tart
Birthday cupcake batter
Vanilla wafer
Salted caramel pecan
Horchata
Cookies and cream
Service was okay. The employee didn’t ask me if I were a rewards member or offer a receipt. His mask did not cover his nose. Sign up for Real Rewards to collect points and earn free froyo. Take it to go to avoid paying sales tax. Also, this location does not accept cash.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

CHEESECAKE FACTORY SUPERLATIVES
Tumblr media
To quote (not unquote) food mastermind, Eric Ripert -- “The Cheesecake Factory is not that bad.” It’s really not, and people who think otherwise are just snobs for no reason. That’s just what we think…
Anyway, in celebration of National Cheesecake Day, we’re handing out SUPERLATIVES to our FAVORITE CHEESECAKE FACTORY FLAVORS.
Most likely to hop off a plane at LAX, with a dream and a cardigan: Cinnabon Cinnamon Swirl Cheesecake Throw them into a volkswagon bug and watch them hit Third Street Promenade!
Most likely to have monthly baby milestone photoshoots: 30th Anniversary Chocolate Cheesecake They’re no better than the other ten types of chocolate cheesecakes available and yet they have a date tied to them.
Most likely to pronounce it “puh-cahn,” not “pee-can”: Caramel Pecan Turtle Cheesecake They come from “high society,” so they think they’re better than everyone else, and are correcting everyone’s grammar mid-sentence too.
Most likely to brag that they go to the Bahamas for Thanksgiving because it’s easier than traveling all the way home: Mango Key Lime Cheesecake Screw going back to the cold tundras of the midwest, give this baby some sun and surf!
Most likely to ditch friends to stay in and watch Extreme Home Makeover: Oreo Dream Extreme Cheesecake Once they get home and slip into pj’s, it’s over.
Most likely to be a Leo: Ultimate Red Velvet Cheesecake Love the attention, craves attention, even if they are so 2014…
Most likely to eat something off the ground: Pumpkin Cheesecake Originally from the ground, they don’t really see the difference…
Most likely to complain about not being able to get their nails done during quarantine: Lemon Raspberry Cream Cheesecake Gotta be looking fresh and fun at all times, you know?
Most likely to be drunkest at the pregame: Chocolate Caramelicious Cheesecake with Snickers Just always doing the most when nobody asked them to.
Most likely to drop their airpods in the pool: Pineapple Upside Down Cheesecake You know maybe if they were right side up, they wouldn’t be so clumsy all the time...
Most likely to play lacrosse and have flannel sheets: Adam’s Peanut Butter Cup Fudge Ripple They’re probably back at home during quarantine too, since Mom’s around to cook meals and do laundry for them.
Most likely to quit their day job and become and artisan shoe maker: Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake They’re not like the others. They were brought up differently, and have aspirations beyond just the world around them.
Most likely to pick up furniture off the street and try to pass it off as a luxury antique: Low Carb Cheesecake Who are you trying to fool hmm?
Most like Katie: Celebration Cheesecake The most fun, funfetti galore, always ready to celebrate!
Most like TT: White Chocolate Caramel Macadamia Nut Cheesecake Can you say that 5 times fast? More is definitely more, and they definitely don’t shy from that.

National Caramel Day
It’s sticky, gooey, and oh-so-delicious: try your hand at the deceptively complex process of making caramel, or just enjoy your favorite caramel treats.National Caramel Day is a special event dedicated to the rich, gooey, tasty substance that is made using the deliciously dark alchemy of the culinary arts. It is known as Caramel, which is in fact born out of the rather exacting process of caramelization.
Now it’s time to learn about and celebrate National Caramel Day!
History of National Caramel Day
Some say that the history of caramel goes back more than a thousand years back to the year 1000 A.D. when the sweet treat was discovered. The name at the time was rather literal, calling it the “kurat al milh”, which means “sweet ball of salt”.
This original version would have been the crunchy type of caramel that was made by crystallizing sugar in boiling water, which is something more like what is known as crunchy toffee today.
Caramel and other treats were enjoyed in the mid-1600s in the Americas, where people were known to have been making hard candies in kettles. Later, caramel developed into a candy that was made not only with sugar, but also included cream or milk, making it a much softer and chewy treat.
By 1886, Lancaster Caramel Company was started by none other than Milton S. Hershey, who would eventually go on to start the Hershey Company, which is one of the most famous American chocolate and candy companies today.
Learning about the history of caramel might also be useful if it involves a bit of understanding about the way that caramel is made. The process for making caramel is deceptively simple, you need merely increase the heat of sugar to a mere 170 °C (340 °F), at which point the sugar breaks down and turns into this much delectable substance with its rich golden color and iconic flavor.
This part is just the start of this process, the beginning of a trek to that which most people think of as ‘Caramel’, that coater of apples and binder of popcorn. Caramel can be used in so many different delightful and delicious treats!
To truly make the type of caramel that most people dearly love, there are a couple of approaches. One is to caramelize the sugar and then add the cream, butter, and vanilla that brings out the flavors that everyone dearly loves. The other process involves adding them all together and then cooking the mixture until the milk caramelizes but not the sugar. This sort of caramel is known as ‘milk caramel’.
Now it’s time to consider how to enjoy and celebrate National Caramel Day!
National Caramel Day Timeline
1000 AD Caramel is discovered
Likely created by making crystallized sugar in a bowl, caramel is believed to have been discovered by Arabs.
1650 Caramel is made in the Americas
It is believed that hard caramel candies are being made in kettles in the US even before it was a country.
1886 Lancaster Caramel Company begins
A predecessor to the Hershey Company, Lancaster Caramel Company is started in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
1950s Caramel apples are born
When Dan Walker of Kraft Foods dips apples into melted caramel, a new and exciting dessert is born.
1977 Salted caramels become popular
French pastry chef Henri le Roux makes a salted butter caramel with crushed nuts.
How to Celebrate National Caramel Day
The best part about National Caramel Day is it gives just about anyone an excuse to put this wonderful treat on anything you can think of!
Share Caramel Treats with Friends
Whatever your favorite form of caramel is, this day is the day that can be celebrated by sharing it with friends, family, and co-workers alike. A fun gift would be to prepare little bags of mixed types of caramel, with little cards in them talking about the history of this delectable treat. Even better, perhaps add in a recipe for them to try making their own caramel treats at home!
Make a Treat Using Caramel
Those who are feeling truly adventurous, can bring in confections of their own creation! Caramel really does go wonderfully with just about anything, so take it upon yourself to whip up a dish of traditional brownies, and you can either mix the caramel in as a marbling, or drizzle it on top and sprinkle it with walnuts for a special treat.
Learn Fun Facts About Caramel
One fun activity for National Caramel Day would be to learn some interesting trivia facts about the candy of the day and then share them with family and friends in honor of the day. Try out these facts for starters:
Caramel coloring is a dark, bitter liquid that is highly concentrated and bottled for commercial use in drinks such as colas.
1960 was an important year in the world of caramel because that’s when the machine was invented that made caramel apples. The machine was invented by Vito Raimondi with the help of his uncle William, whose confectionary shop in Chicago is still the number one machine-dipped caramel apple business.
Cube-shaped Kraft caramels were first made in the United States in 1933. These are especially popular in the autumn months around Halloween, and they often come with sticks to be used for making caramel apples.
The caramel has roots in the Latin “calamellus”, which is related to the sugar cane the caramels come from.
Bake Caramel Spice Cupcakes
Those who want something a little lighter, but still having that rich caramel flavor, can create a batch of apple or pumpkin spice cupcakes, top them with a delicious buttercream frosting, and drizzle them with delightful caramel! These rich flavors and smells are reminiscent of the fall and winter holidays, and will inevitably bring a warm cozy feeling to the home while everyone’s mouth rejoices at the deliciously wonderful flavor of caramel.
Make Turtle Cupcakes for Carmel Day
Most people are familiar with Turtle candies, those rich droplets of caramel made with pecans and then dipped in chocolate. These treats are incredibly popular no matter where you go, and here is an opportunity to enjoy a unique twist on them.
For this dish, prepare a traditional chocolate cake batter, whether from scratch or from a boxed cake mix, and pour it into a cupcake tray. The next step is to marbleize in some caramel and pecans, and set the cupcakes in the oven to bake. Once completed, top these little treats off with a dose of vanilla cream frosting, a drizzle of caramel, and a single pecan to finish them off!
Use Caramel as a Topping
Caramel is really a versatile topping, able to go on top of any form of fruit, be they pears, peaches or the traditional apples. Even better is to use this treat as the topping for the ice cream on a banana split.
One other treat that only goes better with caramel is apple pie! Create this by mixing some caramel into the apple filling and then drizzle the top with rich, creamy, delicious caramel sauce. By doing this, that pie will go from ‘All American’ to ‘All Star’ quality. No matter how you choose to celebrate this National Caramel Day, make sure to spread the joy by taking those delectable treats and sharing with others.

Yogurtland, MainPlace Mall, 2800 S Main St, Santa Ana, CA 92705
Tumblr media
Fro-yo girl here. I haven’t had much luck with Yogurtland’s mall-based locations because some of them are small and very expensive (e.g., The Shops at Montebello, Westfield Century City). However, I was pleasantly surprised by Yogurtland inside MainPlace Mall. They have 16 self-serve flavors and toppings a day and it’s only 49 cents an ounce, the average price at Yogurtland right now.
It looks like a typical Yogurtland, with the green and white tile, see through panels, a few tables inside and lots of Yogurtland logos. Toppings included cereal, nuts, sprinkles, cookies, coconut, fruit, popping boba, syrups, brownies, cheesecake, whipped cream, mochi, candy, chocolate chips, yogurt chips, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos (limited time), fruit purees, etc. The toppings bar was clean, bins were full, and toppings were neatly labeled. Ask for sample cups.
Froyo flavors of the day:
Alphonso mango tart: I like it but it’s pretty sweet for a tart flavor
Plain tart: One of their best flavors, thick, smooth, balanced between creamy and refreshing, has a noticeable yogurt taste and tang, sweet aftertaste
White chocolate macadamia
Milk chocolate candy made with M&Ms
Vanilla ice cream
Caramel almond bar
Graham cracker
Dutch chocolate
Toasted coconut
Molasses gingerbread cookie
Fresh strawberry
Pecans and praline
Cheesecake
Pineapple sorbet
(Beverage) Coffee frappe
(Beverage) Cookies & cream milkshake
Sign up for Real Rewards to collect points and earn free froyo. Take it to go to avoid paying sales tax. Yogurtland is on the ground floor, near JC Penney.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
