AU in which Hiccup quit training and was never caught by Astrid in the bay. After a few years his masked alterego has become a little shit and a serious problem for dragon hunters on the archipelago, and he himself a weirdo in Berk who has lost his heritage and will feel more comfortable talking to your cat than to you. No one is complaining because he has stopped destroying the village with his antics (disappearing into the smithy or the woods/taking time with the dragons) and has apparently "calmed down and found his place." He probably has his own quirks like whistling to the darkness of the night (and something whistles back to him???) or throwing leftovers to Terrors when he thinks no one sees (and usually no one does).

He will also whistle and chirp at random dragons. Maybe he sometimes comes to the Arena to watch the cadets' mishaps and cheer on the dragons????

And, of course, he's still a sarcastic little shit who also talks a lot of shit on the gang and, in fact, almost all of Berk to his dragon besties.

Maybe something will happen by which he will have to teach them to cooperate with the dragons....

And also AU to that AU in which I just make more references to books lol It's just that before Hiccup tries to buddy up with the fuckin’ Night Fury, he tests his ideas on the Terrible Terror, who was left behind after the raid. Terrible's name is Toothless (because Terrible's don't have teeth, they have beaks (like turtles)), and Night Fury is named Windwalker ✨

Windwalker/og Toothless stillto lose his tail fin, but thanks to Hiccup having more time after dropping out of training he is able to build him an independent prosthesis much sooner. Here you have my little redesigns, but they are shit, so the originals still fit as much as possible. I just tried to make them a little more realistic???? Night Fury with a short tail to maximize speed in flight (long tails slow them down (at least that's what I've heard lol))

Lloyd: Rie? This is Lloyd, resopnding to a screaming camper in the south-west, Over.

Rie: Copy that, stabalizing connection...Over.

6:35 - Rie reports the static dissapeared.

6:36 to 7:00, Rie and Lloyd bicker and ramble about different things.

Rie: Hey- Lloyd are you even following trail right now? Over.

Lloyd: Duh im following trail, Over.

Rie: You've been walking for hours, over.

Lloyd: Yeah- the bushes are all out of place back here...This is actually kinda weird, Over.

Rie: What do you mean out of place? I thought some campers trimmed down bushes for hikes? over.

Lloyd: Yeah well today their real-

7:02 - Scream is heard over Lloyd's frequency.

Rie: Lloyd, what the hell was that?!

Lloyd: To hell if i know- Hey! Is anybody out there?!

7:03, silence.

Lloyd: nothing..Must be a bear attack or something...Over.

Rie: Well i'm on lunch, so you get up to that scream, over.

Lloyd: Alright, over.

7:05 - 7:22 : Rie reports that she ate some spaghetti.

7:23 - Lloyd comes back on frequency.

Lloyd: Uhm- Rie?!

Rie: Yes?

Lloyd: Theres this weird looking deer over where i am...-audible shaking breath- and its chewing up a human body...

Rie: Wait...what? -Rie reports she thinks it was a joke.-

Lloyd's frequency: Manic coughing, mixed with screams and rocks falling.

Rie:Lloyd this isnt funny! You cant mess with the radi-

Lloyd: the fucker sees me...

Rie: The what-

???: HELP ME!

Lloyd: shIT- -the audible sounds of running-

Rie is reported to have frozen in her seat, feeling nausiated.

Lloyd: (Inaudible screams and heavy breathing)

Rie: Lloyd?!

7:27 - 7:37 - Dead silence.

llOYd: RIE!

Rie: ...lloyd?

...

llOYd: RIE PICK UP.

llOYd: (in a womans voice) HELP ME!

Rie stays silent.

the walkie on Lloyds end is dropped, and seemingly stomped on.

Rie's frequency shifts back to Kai and cole's frequencies.

Rie:...Lloyds gone.

what if in the stolen heir au hiccup and dagur just straight up leave?? I can see two different really fun scenarios that occur.

they leave while they are both young when dagurs like 16 and feels old enough to beat the world Hiccup is 13 and a skilled blacksmith that is so so tired. They sail into Viggo's waters and travel from tribe to tribe in that area with their skills and act as helping hands for hire. some how hiccup falls in love with dragons, or maybe has a similar toothless incident. Viggo meets them both at some point,idk

After hiccup gets toothless when hes like 14 (because i like him being younger than canon for the fun of it) Movie events happen except no astrid to stop him and he flies off. he goes to berserker island, not wanting to flee the archepelego without telling his only other friend. Dagur is just like, um no, I'm coming too. and so they take flight, kill the queen and take over that original nest or something. Again I am biting at the bit for viggo to meet them some how.

Since the PJO show came out ive been thinking of who the Trio+ is most like so have this

Some of these are open to suggestions, because i am not 100% on them and others you Cannot Argue with me on

Hiccup is one im not completely sold on

Like theres some aspects of everyone that fit but the problem is hiccup is Quiet and Polite, whereas most PJO characters... Not so much

Also im only including the main line so Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, and Trials of Apollo

If it was everything, i think id have picked Carter Kane and possibly Hearth but they're not here so we got Jason and Ella, with some Hestia in there too

Fishlegs is Grover

No one can argue with me and if you try, you are wrong

They would get each other so well, they are going to compose poetry, play the lyre and worry about their besties

Cami's was also slightly difficult, in that theres a lot of people i could have picked, but i couldn't put everyone there lol

Anyways she'd get along great with the Stolls, Meg is a trash Gremlin, and Leo is Leo, so i think yall get where im coming from

Thalia is only a little bit, not so much in personality as in vibes

Also cami would have the Biggest Crush on her and you cannot convince me otherwise

Snotlout is Luke and Clarisse

Once again, you cannot argue, you know this to be true

Me thinking of the similarities between Alvin and Octavian were what started this whole thing, which again, you cannot argue with me about

Also Nero

Nero and Octavian are the closest, but Caligula is there somewhat, especially towards later books, but Caligula is Extremely Smart, and good at fighting and being scary, so while theyre both cruel sadistic assholes Alvins just too pathetic to be fully similar

They're the only ones i did, tho i have some thoughts for a few other people

Windwalker and Mrs O Leary have similar vibes

For Toothless the characters that spring to mind are Blackjack and Megs lil leaf demon whose name i can't remember

A piece for my Windwalker AU.

Merida (Fletchling, female): the smallest member of the Pack, but perhaps the most fierce. Her small size barely contains her fiery energy. Protective and rather loud, she is often the first to raise the alarm should trouble arise. Her favourite thing is singing at 3am.

Nate (human, male): very nervous and incredibly anxious, he is often compared to a Deerling. Nate has been raised by Colress from the age of five, but the circumstances surrounding his adoption have left their mark. He has severe separation anxiety, along with issues about being abandoned. Fortunately, the years under Colress’ care have helped lessen their severity. His favourite thing is the long jumper he wears; it was hand-made by Colress - specifically, it was crocheted - and is a source of constant comfort for him.

Colress (Windwalker, male): reclusive and reticent, Colress has rarely been seen outside of the forest he calls home. He has a brilliant mind, and has even picked up the mechanics of machinery through studying books. He is the “Alpha” of the Pack, a title reserved for the oldest and wisest member. He specialises in Archen and Archeops, but other Pokémon also make up the Pack. His favourite thing is his collection of books.

Phosphor (Archeops, female): distinguished from her brethren by her red and black plumage, Phosphor is the oldest of Colress’ Pokémon. She has a vicious disposition, especially towards outsiders, but is incredibly sweet towards the Pack. She is particularly protective of Nate, and often volunteers to stay behind with him should Colress need to hunt with the rest of the Pack. Her favourite thing is snoozing in front of a crackling fire.

There are other Pack members, of course, but I unfortunately couldn’t fit them in. XD

It might be hard (or impossible, because sometimes uploading eats the picture quality) to see, but Colress has very pale scars.

Also, it’s not mentioned above, but Colress and Nate speak with a Scottish accent. They also have Scottish Gaelic as a second language (it’s referred to as “Highland Gaelic” here, like how the Pokémon equivalent to English is Galarian).

Tradition, Tradition

(Different First Meeting AU) (but not that different lol)

“Son, we need to talk. Sit down,” Stoick ordered. Hiccup perched on the seat. Stoick rubbed his hands together. “Now then. As you know, you’re going to be sailing to Dragon Island tomorrow to bring back your own dragon. So I want to go over a few things first. One: try and get a strong, mighty beast, like Thornado. If you can bag yourself another Thunderdrum, so much the better.”

Hiccup shrugged. He hadn’t really been planning on trying to get one of those. “I dunno, dad… they’re a bit too loud. I might go deaf,” he joked half-heartedly.

“Fair enough. Alright. Try and get a Flaming Nightmare. Only the best dragon riders try to tame one of those. In fact, I heard from Spitelout that your cousin is planning to get a Nightmare. You don’t want him to show you up, do you?”

He thought about how insufferable Snotlout would be if he got a Nightmare, and grimaced. “No… but hey, what about a Nadder? They’re fast, spiky…”

“Aye. That would do,” Stoick nodded. “Just, for the love of Thor, don’t come back with a Zippleback or a Gronckle or, gods forbid, a Terror,” he added.

Hiccup’s brow furrowed. “Dad, what’s wrong with Gronckles? A lot of people on Berk ride them.” He could at least understand why taming a two headed dragon, or a dragon that couldn’t be ridden on, would be kind of a problem.

“Oh, nothing’s wrong with ‘em, so to speak. It’s just… I’m the chief, and you’re my heir. So whatever dragon you end up with reflects on me. And on our tribe. And on your ancestors. Remember who you’re named after,” Stoick urged.

“Hiccup Haddock the First befriended dragons by rescuing a Terror.”

“Aye, but he rode on a Windwalker,” Stoick retorted. “And then Hiccup Haddock the Second rode a Flaming Nightmare. Which means you, Hiccup Haddock the Third, have a lot to live up to. I know you won’t let me down.”

He wasn’t sure whether to feel pleased or under pressure. “Okay, but on the off chance I don’t manage to tame a rare and or ‘strong, mighty beast’, you’re not gonna, y’know, disown me and kick me out of the house, are you?”

“Well…”

“Dad!”

Stoick roared with laughter. “Oh, I’m just kidding! So, do we have a deal?”

“What, I tame a dragon that won’t embarrass you and you don’t disown me?”

“You tame a dragon we can both be proud of, son. Is it a deal?”

“This bargain is feeling very one sided.”

“Deal?!”

Hiccup sighed. “Deal.”

The next day, he and the other teens set off with Gobber to head for Dragon Island. Ever since his ancestor had shown their tribe how to tame and ride the mighty beasts, the Hairy Hooligans sent the young people of the tribe off to find, tame and fly home on a dragon. It was a coming of age ritual for them.

On the way, everyone else began talking about which dragon they were going to try and tame. “I’m gonna tame a Flaming Nightmare,” declared Tuffnut. “It’s my destiny. See?” He lifted his tunic to reveal a mark on his side that, if one tilted ones head and squinted, vaguely resembled a Flaming Nightmare.

Fishlegs’ eyes widened. “Your mom let you get a tattoo?”

“It’s not a tattoo! It’s a birthmark.”

“Uh, I’ve been with you since birth, and that was never there before,” said Ruff.

“Sure it was. You’ve just never seen me from this side before now.”

Astrid interrupted to say “aren’t you two just gonna share a dragon?”

Tuffnut pulled a face. “Share? With Ruffnut? Eww.” She hit him. “Ow!”

Fishlegs inquired “what kind of dragon are you going to tame, Astrid?”

“A Nadder,” she replied at once. “Beautiful and deadly, just like me.”

“That is so true, Astrid,” declared Snotlout, leering at her. "Hey, you'll never guess what kind of dragon I'm gonna tame,” he boasted. “I, Snotlout Jorgenson, am going to tame and ride… the Night Fury. Dun dun duuuun!”

His words were met with disbelief. “I thought you were gonna tame a Flaming Nightmare,” said Hiccup. “That’s what your dad told my dad, anyway.”

“Pfft. My dad thinks I should tame a Nightmare cos he doesn’t believe the Night Fury exists. Well I say it does, and I’m gonna be the first to ride it. Let me guess; you’re planning on taming a Gronckle or something, aren’t you?”

Behind them, Fishlegs looked hurt. “What’s wrong with Gronckles?”

Hiccup calmly replied “actually, I was thinking maybe a Nadder, like Astrid.”

In truth, he didn’t really know what kind of dragon he wanted. If it weren’t for his dad pressuring him to get an impressive one, Hiccup would have just been glad to have a dragon at all. Gobber interrupted them to say “I think maybe you lot should put your backs into it! We’ll get there at sundown at this rate!”

So they rowed harder (well, Hiccup tried his best) and at last, they made it to the towering, imposing pillars of rock that surrounded Dragon Island. Gobber guided the longship through the sea stacks, and they all got off onto the volcanic black sand beach. “I’ll see you all back on Berk. Good luck!” he said.

Fishlegs asked nervously, “you’re not gonna wait here for us?”

“Nah. If you’re not back by sunset we’ll come look for ye. Probably. Ah, there you are, you great big lummox!” Gobber beamed at a large, rust coloured dragon asleep on the beach. “Wake up, Grump. C’mon, wakey wakey!”

The teens left him to it and set off. They split up and went wandering across the island by themselves. Hiccup walked slowly through the trees, keeping an eye out for Nadders or Nightmares or even a Gronckle. There was no sign of dragons anywhere. “Oh, the gods hate me,” he complained. “Some people can’t find their knife or their mug, no, not me, I can’t find an entire dragon!”

He didn’t look where he was going. Suddenly he tripped and fell down a slope, rolling to the bottom of the scree, landing against something warm and…

Hiccup gasped and scrambled away from the sleeping dragon. He had never seen anything like it before. Jet black, with faint grey dapples; a smooth and streamlined hide; rounded ear-flaps and triangular dorsal fins… This, Hiccup truly and honestly thought, was the most beautiful dragon he’d ever seen.

It’s him… the Night Fury, he thought in awe. Hiccup couldn’t believe he was the one to find the islands most mysterious resident… or that the Night Fury was just sleeping out here in the forest. He’d have thought they would sleep in the mountain, in a deep dark cave; not in a sunlit clearing. As quietly as he could, he took out his notebook and charcoal pencil, and began to sketch the Fury.

Hiccup glanced at the dragon and flinched - it was staring right at him, with a bright green eye. He didn’t dare move. Then it stretched and rose to its paws. He scrambled backwards as it turned towards him until he couldn’t get any further, not without trying to run. Somehow he doubted that would work.

“Uh… nice dragon. Please don’t hurt me,” Hiccup rambled. He cringed when the Night Fury sniffed at him; then he realised it wanted the fish he had tucked in his belt. “Oh, err, here,” he said quickly, holding the fish out. The dragon opened its mouth, revealing pink gums. “You’re toothless? Huh. I really thought you’d have”- a set of conical fangs sprang out and snatched the fish. “Teeth.”

It gulped the fish down in one bite, licked its lips, and peered at him again. Hiccup stiffened. “I don’t have any more,” he said apologetically. Only to wince when the Night Fury coughed up half of the fish into his lap. It stared at him expectantly. Hiccup sighed. He’d been warned about this. Might as well get it over with he thought grimly, steeling himself to take a bite of the raw fish.

Eww, Eww, Eww! It was cold and slimy and disgusting. He resisted the urge to spit it out again and gulped it down, even though it made his eyes water. He couldn’t help but grimace. The dragon peered at him curiously, and he forced an awkward grin. Then he realised he’d just bared his teeth at a dragon. Oops.

To his relief, the Fury didn’t get aggressive. Instead… they mimicked him, pulling their gums back into a lopsided smile. Hiccup’s smile relaxed into a more natural expression. “You’re not what I expected,” he remarked. “I mean, I wasn’t expecting anything in particular. Most of my village doesn’t even believe you exist. But I figured a Night Fury would be more, well, furious.”

They snorted. “No offence. It’s just, no one knows anything about you. I was trying to draw you, actually.” He showed them the sketch he’d been making, and they perked up. He watched in bemusement as the dragon snapped a branch off a tree and dragged it through the mud. They were… drawing?

Well, scribbling. Then they sat back looking satisfied. “You like drawing too?” Hiccup wondered, before finally realising “Wait. Can you… understand me?”

In response they looked at him in a way that screamed what do you think? “Wow. That’s amazing! Can - can all dragons understand humans?” he asked. They rolled their eyes and proceeded to warm the ground with their fire, before settling back down for a nap. May as well finish the sketch, thought Hiccup.

When he was done, he couldn’t resist edging closer to the snoozing dragon and reaching out to touch them. Just once. His hand was hovering inches away from their snout when their eyes snapped open once again. He snatched his hand away. “Sorry. I just, uh… oh, what the hell. If you really can understand me, then - truth is, I’m supposed to train and ride a dragon home from here.

“I was just gonna try and get a Nadder or something, but I couldn’t find any dragons and then I fell down that slope and you were here and it feels like I already know you so well and I thought maybe you’d let me… ride you.” Hiccup sighed. “But of course you won’t. What am I thinking? You’ll probably be flying off any minute now, just to get away from the annoying, babbling human.”

They didn’t fly off. Instead they just looked at him, calm and intelligent. Hiccup tentatively reached out again, averting his gaze. He held his hand up, waiting, hoping… and then a warm snout pressed against his palm. His eyes opened.

A warm nose rested against his hand. Bright green eyes gazed into his soul. His breath caught in his throat. “Wow. Um. My name’s Hiccup, by the way.”

The Night Fury purred and showed him their gums. “Yeah, I know, you’re toothless… oh! Wait, is that - is that your name? Toothless?” he wondered. They purred. “I’ll take that as a yes. Uh, are you a boy Night Fury or a”-

Growl.

“… Boy?”

Purr.

“Huh. Well, my dad won’t be able to complain about this. Thanks, Toothless.”

3am art insperation from last night lead to this but anyways! Tidal class dragons my beloved!

I may end up doing more of these for the rest of the dragon classes and for a sort of httyd au project I have in the works so maybe expect more??

Anyways have some random notes/headcannons:

Heavy counter shading on Seashockers due to naturally being predated by Scauldrons and being open ocean dwellers.

Sand wraiths have longish and front heavy limbs with broad claws for digging and a more angular snout, as well as a more robust build further signifying that they are *not* related to the night fury despite sharing a vaguely similar body plan. They also have rough scales similar to shark skin.

Shockjaws and Windwalkers have crocodilian like lifestyles and are infact more freshwater dwelling than most tidal class species. Shockjaws prefer brackish waters and Windwalkers can be found in most inland bodies of water.

The thunderdrum is built for staying in deep tidepools or underwater caverns, using it's long tail as a lure to bait in prey. They swallow most prey whole though have crushing plates in their throats to break through shellfish, seeing as crabs are a prefered food item.

Sliquifers despite also sharing the trouble of being scauldron snacks lack major countershading like the Seashocker seeing as they can easily out maneuver their attackers, along with this their wings are built more like large flippers, the membrane connecting back at the shoulder joint to allow for more movement.

Tidegliders are built similarly to plesiosaurs, with long necks and flippers in place of proper limbs, they often travel ocean currents to save energy and also add reason for their name. They stay fairly inland and are common reef dwellers.

Scauldrons despite their immense size can crawl onto land though not for long, they live in open oceans primarily and are simply very territorial to things that they think are threats - and seeing as not many things are as big as them to pose a threat they don't take kindly to boats.
