Hi!! Can I ask how you got butterfly wings on your clangen cats? 👀 it’s super cute!!
sure thing! i welcome Clangen questions! ok so. on the discord there are many people making custom linearts and colours! I chose the butterfly one, but there are many more out there (butterfly is called Soot's sprites)
there are instructions for getting the sprites replaced by the old one, but once they're there god damn is it worth it!

LoZ: LU - The Lantern of the Lost
I have this idea for an item that's been rolling around in my head for several years.
It's a black frame lantern with a peculiar flame inside.
Like this:
Tumblr media
The lantern has a tassel attached to the bottom with a silver, flower-shaped bell, that when it rings, it draws in Poe Souls so long as they haven't taken on the form of enemy Poes. Those souls then join the flame until it is time for them to be taken to the Bargainer Statues.
The flame itself almost seems to pulse like a heartbeat.
Regardless, its design would have a definitive Sheikah influence. Not technologically, but magically & design wise. Even featuring a very ancient iteration of the Mind's Eye symbol, one with a very destinctly Depths script style design to it.
Something kinda like this:
Tumblr media
(Obviously not done. There are definitely some mistakes. Also not sure which looks better.)
Other designs could include Depths-style versions of the Shadow Medallion symbol & such things.
Anyway, when held by someone who hasn't unlocked said ability, it will merely act as an ordinary, if magically-powered lantern with an ordinary flame. Though, it will consume the holder's magic, just not very quickly.
However, it has to be the actual Mind's Eye. Otherwise, the flame won't be the one in the picture above & won't be able to house the Poe Souls. It doesn't work with the Lense of Truth or the Mask of Truth. There's just a different level & even quality of magic that runs through your 3rd eye when you have access to the ability itself that very simply can't be fully replicated artificially. Sure, the Mind's Eye can't literally see through chests the way the Lense of Truth can, but it has a number of other benefits that the Lense doesn't.
Something else is that the light from the lantern can essentially project the power of the Mind's Eye outward, thus allowing those around the holder to also see the spirits. Both living & dead ones. Not to mention passed illusions. You see, someone with the power can see the Poe Souls as people. Much like how the ghosts of Rhoam & the Champions appeared. Though, more wispy & most normal people only have a couple of those little green flames floating around them. It also allows those nearby to hear the Poe Souls speak.
Though the Shadow Soldiers are merely echos of the people they were. The souls of those soldiers have already moved on, but they were able to leave a bit of themselves behind. Their dying wish to protect Hyrule in whatever way they could is what allowed such shadows to manifest. One with the Mind's Eye & those near them while holding the lantern could hear the Shadow Soldiers too, but it'd be little more than whispers of what they'd been thinking & feeling at the time of their death. Their most desperate desire. The one that keeps such echos anchored to the Depths.
Which brings up something. The fact that a lot of the Links seem to have a tendency towards seeing, interacting with, or soothing spirits or ghosts. You think it's something to do with the Spirit of the Hero?
Either way, I'd really like to see a half-Sheikah Link using this lantern. So, maybe this could be a part of the Library of Nayru story.
Either way, I'd want whichever Link ends up with it to also learn the Song of Healing & the Song of the Sun for the sake of soothing the souls of the dead.
Of course, it wouldn't always work immediately. Sometimes, Link would have to help them finish something or talk to them about something. Though, in the case of Poes & Imp Poes having taken on enemy form, it'd require a bit more work. Specifically, "killing" them with either a Light or Twilight-based attack. Either from a spell or a weapon. Doing so will destroy them & leave behind both a Poe Soul & a few Dark Clumps.
Such methods also work on undead enemies, such as Stals, Redeads, & Gibdos, & corrupted enemies such as Wolfos, Bullbos, Vulpos (the Keaton enemies from MC), Iron Knuckles, Furnixes, ect.
In the case of the latter, it purifies them, turning them back to their original forms. And in the cases of the Keatons, Iron Knuckles, & Furnixes, you'll get something out of it. If not rewards, then information or quests at the very least later on.
In fact, I could see purifying a Keaton near the beginning of the game ending up being the linchpin to Link learning the Mind's Eye technique to begin with. Perhaps the Keaton even becomes the companion for this game.
Though, I can also see him getting on a lot of players' nerves, because I tend to portray the Keaton as wise & clever, but very mischievous (occasionally just outright demanding Keatonzushi & Keaton Udon). Having a distinctly Cheshire Cat vibe, though his questions always have answers & it's always something that Link is supposed to be able to figure out on his own. Aside from riddles, I also tend to see the Keaton as being fans of the Socratic Method.
By this I mean, that they ask a lot of questions, fully knowing the answers themselves, but also expects Link to be able to think for himself & thus use said questions as a way to force Link to think critically.
Despite this, they are also not shy in telling Link when he's done a good job & will always repay a favor in kind.
In a way, I suppose that I see this particular Link as the sort who genuinely enjoys things like puzzles, brainteasers, riddles, & the like. Also having that classic Hero curiosity.

Phantom Ganon, Skull Kid, Hero's Shade (I need to stop writing about Zelda, but the floodgates are open)
What do these three characters have in common? They are all Link64's best and only friend. Though, he didn't know it at the time.
Remember the mask quest and playing ocarina with the skull kids in the woods? The same woods where it's legend that people become stalfos, so Kokiri don't travel there.
He's kind of rude to Link64. But here's the sad part, unlike the Kokiri, The skull kids don't exist in the future, even though the stalfos do. (Nor the Stalchilds which stalk Link outside of the woods, which could be *interpreted* as death stalking Link from the very beginning. OR it could be interpreted as his friends tagging along. [Who're kind of rude, and annoying. But they don't know better.])
Skull Kid, the Z64 Skull Kid, the one you trade masks with, the one you teach scarecrow's song to. That one, I think Becomes phantom Ganon. Because he was bound to Ganon when he passed through the woods and installed a Gohma into the Deku Tree. And was chosen specifically (like the other temple Bosses) to grow into the temple protectors.
Watch the defeat of Phantom Ganon. It's incredibly sad, even the words he chooses to speak during his death are incredibly sad. And this, I think is why.
He encourages Link to defeat Ganon, and admits that he was just a stepping stone, but he never takes off his mask, and he does his best not to let Link know the truth about his friend.
(Shout out to the Painting Magic being connected to a link between worlds. Cool connection and decision to use that idea in the game.)
*But Link is the Hero's Shade*! You are definitely screaming. Because it was written in the Hyrule Historia. Even if all the rest of that is true. The Hero's Shade connection is dumb.
Evidence; Koroks can change their appearance. Like the Tanuki in Japanese Lore. If they are Kokiri, (Like the connection to the Deku Tree suggests) AND One of the Deku Trees is likely the incarnation of the Kikwi elder from Skyward Sword (Which is as close as we get to Tanuki in Zelda.) Then it stands to reason the stal children AND the Skull Kids can all be directly related to the Kokiri.
And that the warning that *children become stalfos* for the Kokiri wasn't for Link, but for the Kokiri. (Or just a silly reminder for Link that he is never alone, because the Kokiri follow along as stalchild)
*BUT HOW DOES THAT MAKE SKULL KID THE HERO'S SHADE?*
Who else would both be *still alive* and *a skeleton* to teach Link, if Link is a reincarnation, and his soul stays with him? *That is the divine lore, Zelda, Link, and Ganon always have the same Soul*
Or do they? Am I making an assumption here? I'm not quite certain anymore, but I feel like I'm probably on the right track.
The alternate reasoning is that Rauru the Owl is *also* a former Link. Since they both share that same *mentor* slot. But that's never explicitly stated like it is with the Hero's Shade.
Think about it; no Link carries the gear the Shade does. No Link fights like a stalfos, even though they serve to train him early on. And therefore, all the stalfos (and by extension; Poes) could have served to be training Link the way forward.
One more reason; in Z64, the only place we see wolfos is in the woods. And that's how Wolfos and Stalfos are *linked*.
-OR- *maybe* the Hero's Shade is Link, in the same way Shadow Link is Link.
It's also worth noting, that Sometimes Stalfos are directly ordered by Ganon to Kill Link , and other times, such as in skyward sword guardians and Phantom Hourglass, they're controlled to protect something important, or divine relics.
Which links explicitly to what I just said, and why Phantom Ganon could *in fact* be the Hero's Shade.
Don't take my word for it.

Welcome to the affectionately dubbed Hot Girl Shit AU.
Characters: Dark, Shadow, and Nightmare
~🧋🌧️🍫🌧️🧋~
“I don’t think we’re old enough to go to a milk bar,” Dark signed slowly, staring at the awning across the street. It was a little rainy, and the sign creaked gently in a wayward gust of wind, shallow puddles reflecting the edge of their boots and the end of Nightmare’s cloak.
Shadow just scoffed at him and planted a hand on his hip. “We’re demons.”
Speak for yourself, hummed Nightmare’s oddly low fairyspeak, more felt than heard. He glanced at the rain impassively, but there was a subtle curl of fingers in the edge of his cloak, lips thinning as he eyed the door like a potentially venomous snake. Creatures of smoke and twilight they might have been, but even nightmares made flesh were apparently not immune to their supernaturally blue curls getting flattened by the weather.
Free hand half-signing along with his drawl to drill the point home, Shadow gave them a truly impressive eyeroll and nearly started levitating before he caught himself. “I dunno if we need to eat, but I did steal goodies when I terrorized Hyrule and I didn’t implode. So. You,” he pointed a claw at Nightmare, who stared at it, “have never heard of milk before, and you,” the claw switched to Dark, who leaned subtly away, “told me your hero drank milk in the middle of fighting you. So baby steps, and if nobody dies then we’re raiding a bakery because if I don’t have a croissant I’ll die.”
There was a questioning chime from Nightmare’s direction, and Shadow quickly explained what bread was while Dark thought it over. It was reasonable to assume that if it didn’t kill his counterpart, it wouldn’t kill him, but why go to all the trouble? He vaguely knew what hunger was, in a roundabout way. The Hero was afraid of it, though not in the same concrete way as wolfos or fire. It was something unpleasant, and it could kill, though the Hero hadn’t seen it by the time of their fight.
He was reasonably sure Shadow’s comment about dying from a lack of bread was a joke. But if it was a joke, did that mean he just wanted bread? For fun?
“-and I know you can’t read the sign but they’ve got chocolate milk and I think most fairies would literally kill for that.”
Dark watched as the other demon paused, eyes properly focusing on their shortest companion for the first time in five minutes. A slow, curious fairy chime, flat and wary but mildly tempted.
Shadow lifted his chin and met the taller dark head on. “It’s sweet.”
Nightmare’s eyes flashed vivid magenta and he walked right out into the rain, making a beeline for the milk bar.
Dark glanced at the grey skies, the mostly empty street, and the way Shadow jumped up in a fistpump that left him floating a little too long. They were going, then. He’d get left behind if he didn’t follow.
He still skirted the edge of the puddles in the road, and didn’t dare look down.

honestly the choices in clothing would make you thing Twilight was more of a hunter and Rus was more of a farmer but personality-wise and weapon-wise, it's the other way around. Twilight has a sword and a wooden shield, and only hunts game when necessary (killing for food and not thinking about taking anything as a trophy). He can speak to animals as a wolf and is friendly to them despite his appearance, so he's listened to their stories and carries them with him. Rus has a crossbow(which I still have no clue how it works) and a shield of horn and bone, and is more likely to hunt for fun. He takes home the kills for food, yes, but he's more likely to also take something as a prize for his victory. he does it less often since Twilight came back, but there's still deer-horn handles on knives and furs that line warmer clothes. he can't speak with the animals, and is less talkative and social than his older twin. there's a reason why Twilight's animal form is a blue-eyed wolf while Rus's animal form is more like a White Wolfos (potentially also with blue eyes, haven't decided). The wolf hunts when necessary while the wolfos will hunt for fun. Peter Pancho III may be the scariest member of the team by accident, but Rus is no slouch in the fear inciting department.

📖 being a sage
Journal Entries || Open!
It happened again. At least this time it wasn't in public.
I was reading Ganondorf's journal and I came across some passages that mentioned a being called Demise. I only experienced a split-second of confusion, wondering why the normal word was being treated as a proper name. I didn't even have to read further to understand. To know who this being was and his importance in Hyrule's history. The blanks were automatically filled in with knowledge, perhaps even memories, that are not my own. I had to stop reading for the night. Just the information subconsciously supplied to me made me...less eager to keep going. That curse...I feel like I know where this is going...
It was no less jarring than the last time this happened. Perhaps moreso since the last time was just that I could speak on a historical context I never knew about in a meeting with the rest of the Sages. Maybe I should ask if the others experience this, too. If they do or have in my presence, they don't seem as perturbed as I do. I've never seen them become a wolfos whose tail just got slammed in a door...

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! Sorry for being a bit late with your secret Santa, I had a lot going on (I broke my foot lol)
Anyways, here it is! Hope you enjoy:
Legend cursed as the freezing wind assaulted his bare skin. Behind him, Hyrule trudged along, taking advantage of the path forged in the deep snow by Legend. They had been cut off from the chain when a portal had dropped them into the unforgiving wilderness. He doesn’t know whether he should be thankful or not that they knew it wasn’t Hebra. Their best guess before it all went to shit was they were in Twilight’s era in Snowpeak.
Thankfully, they should reach better climates if they keep heading downwards off the mountain. The problem though is that none of them had winter equipment apart from Wild and the snow blinded them to any potential threats. Speaking of, he could hear a howl in the wind.
“Best keep moving, Rulie.” He bit his lip to stop his teeth from chattering. He didn’t look behind him, but he could still hear Hyrule’s frozen breathing. His fingers were numb, and he stuck them under his arms. The howling was closer now, and he looked around nervously. The ground started to even out beneath his feet and groaned. Now what do they do? If they keep walking, they might just go in circles.
But they didn’t have much of a choice, did they? He trudged on, and on, and on. It felt forever had passed until they finally reached something. It was a lake, with several large, floating ice chunks forming a way to get across. He stopped suddenly, causing Hyrule to crash into him, almost sending them both toppling into the icy water.
After narrowly avoiding disaster, they huddled closer together to decide where to go from there. After deciding it would take too long to go around, they began hopping across the ice. It was difficult to get traction as they slipped around. They clutched onto each other's arms for stabilization. Again though, they heard howling, this time sounding as if it was right on top of them.
A white, ghostly looking wolfos emerged from the snowstorm. It was large, and growling dangerously. Legend fumbled around for his sword, numb fingers making it difficult to grasp the hilt. Hyrule also reached for his sword, having better luck in drawing it from its scabbard. So far the wolfos kept along the bank of the lake, prowling, like it knew they were trapped.
“Listen,” Legend grabbed Hyrule’s shoulder, “I’m going to jump to the next ice float, then you will. Don’t look away, they strike best when your back is turned.” Hyrule nodded, and Legend jumped to the next ice float. He swung his arms out wildly for balance, breathing a sigh of relief when he didn’t fall. “Alright, come on over now!” he shouted to Hyrule.
Hyrule turned away from the wolfos carefully, then jumped. He grabbed onto Legend’s arm to stabilize himself. Unfortunately for them however, the wolfos decided that the ice wasn’t too much of a challenge, and easily leapt onto the ice float they were just on. They both groaned, this was just great, wasn’t it? The wolfos got ready to jump again.
‘Oh you have got to be kidding me’, Legend thought. They didn’t have enough time to prepare before the wolfos had jumped to their ice float, sending it rocking dangerously back and forth. Hyrule slid too close to the edge for his liking, and he grabbed onto his arm to keep him from slipping off. Their moment of distraction is just what the wolfos was waiting for however.
It lept, slamming into both of them and sending them all over the edge of the ice float. Freezing cold water surrounded him, turning his already numb skin increasingly number. He couldn’t see Hyrule anymore, his vision blackening around the edges as the cold abyss tried to claim him.
The pain started now, and he cursed his slow brain. The mermaid suit. How could he forget? The pain of his legs fusing together, scales forming and bone structure changing. It was done fairly quickly, thank the goddess. Soon his vision cleared as he was able to better breath in the water.
He was able to spot Hyrule now, grappling with the wolfos. He looked like he was becoming weaker by the minute though. With a solid swish of his tail, he was at his side in an instant, running his sword through the wolfos. Hyrule looked surprised, before clutching his throat as a stream of bubbles went to the surface.
He grabbed his arms, swimming up to the surface quickly. Even the mermaid tail couldn’t prevent him from the cold though, and soon his strokes were becoming weaker. They made it up to the surface though. When they broke the surface, Hyrule began coughing weakly as Legend held him from his armpits, struggling to keep both of them afloat. Hyrule’s skin was pale and his lips blue, and Legend knew he probably didn’t look much better.
Keeping Hyrule on his chest, he began to swim towards the shore as fast as he could. It felt like an eternity, even though it was only a few minutes. Hyrule had stopped moving and Legend carefully lifted him out of the water and onto the bank, before trying to do the same for himself. He got himself halfway out before he heard them. The chain, calling out to them in the distance. If he squinted, he could see the distant fire of a torch, or maybe one of Wild’s flameblades.
He breathed a sigh of relief, calling back out, before trying to lift his uncooperative lower half out of the freezing water again. He was so focused on his task, he didn’t notice it when they reached them, and hands were on his body, pulling him out of the water. He shivered, remaining clothes soaked and already freezing to his skin. Then of course the reverse transformation started, turning his tail back into legs and feet. He was already so weak he faded from consciousness quickly.
When he woke up again, they were huddled in a cave, with a warm fire going and dry clothes and about a dozen blankets covering him. Warriors appeared in his view and he sighed. “Right scare you gave us, you know. Hyrule still hasn’t woken up, and you both looked like popsicles when we got to you.” Wars scolded him some more, but he tuned him out, looking around for Hyrule.
He spotted him near the fire, sleeping peacefully, the color having returned to his previously pale face. Wars snapped his fingers in his face, and Legend turned to glare at him. Warriors gave him a look, then smiled gently. “He’s going to be okay because of you, y'know. If you hadn’t pulled him out as quickie as you did.. well..”
Legend nodded, closing his eyes, content to know that Hyrule was safe. This had been a real shitty day, but maybe things would turn around. And with that, Legend went back to sleep
(PS: if you wanna know who it is, just ask. Didnt want to ruin it for you if you don't want to know)
Hey I’m sorry I never answered this, I think it’s really cool and thank you for taking time out of your day to make it. I really do appreciate it

Z64, Skulltula, Bosses, the truth of Dark Link
The Golden Skulltulas are never elaborated upon. They're a curse given to a family in Kakariko Town, and unless 100 Golden Skulltulas are defeated, the entire family themselves will also become Skulltula.
Is this the same curse Ganon inflicted on the tribes Hyrule? Did his dark influence turn people--into monsters?
To truly understand this, we need to review the bosses of Z64. To start, lettuce take a look at King Dodongo. He has the face of a Goron, rolls around like a Goron, and eats rock... Like a Goron.
Remember the Skulltulas? Who look and act like humans, but also... Like spiders? This seems too familiar...
But who are the other bosses?
Well Queen Gohma, The game suggests she's related to the mad Deku scrubs somehow... But with how they, the Kokiri, and the Skull Kids are connected but not... It's hard to really nail down.
Barinade seems to literally be a Giant Heart. Jabu Jabu's heart, specifically.
But what if the adult timeline bosses?
Phantom Gannon seems to be a Skull Kid specifically... In fact, the entire dungeon seems to be foreshadowing of the ordeals Link must face.
[Bandit Games] did a video on this idea that the Sister Poe's, were *actually* the sister sages. And part of that video inspired this.
I, on the other hand, think that the poe sisters are ACTUALLY just the Kokiri. And Phantom Gannon, either Skull Kid, or Mido.
Who is Fado? The question always asked about Zelda. It's Meg. But look closer at Meg's face, the spider-y skulltula-y evil-looking smile.
Referring back to the Bandit Games video, if the sisters aren't the sages, then who or what are they depicting? Well... The return to the forest is essentially "returning to your roots". And, knowing Link would possibly return, they set up this first temple, who Saria is the boss of.
Or imprisoned. Or. Phantom Gannon.
There are six sages, the first of which Raru has already met. And in the forest temple are 5 Poe's. The 4 sisters, and P.G. this says two things, one, Link must defeat 5 Temples.
Defeating the boss at the end releases the Sage.
But at the very end, after defeating *all* the shades(phantoms, or sages), you'll need to defeat Gannon.
We see this repeated again with Nabooru, who was imprisoned as an iron knuckle. And then you also need to defeat Twinrova. Or, Elder Gerudo. Potentially also Ganondorf's lesbian Mothers.
The video pointed out one thing I had not considered before. Dark Link is created from Link himself. Meaning; that this boss is indeed Link. Unlike the other Sages however; Link defeats his own shade instead of succumbing.
Speaking of evil children. Morpha, which looks like a Super Metroid power suit upgrade, also looks like something else. A tainted Zora egg. Without the glowy red enemy indicator, it looks exactly like the eggs that Link collects in Majora's Mask.
What is this then?
Gohma:spider-mom, Twinrova:Mother of Demise, Morpha: Ruto Egg.
That leaves two: Impa, and Daruna.
4 sisters and a Brother.
But here's the thing; Gorons all look like males to Hylians and call each other brother and use male pronouns for each other. But Daruna had a child that he named Link
5 sisters.
So that leaves the mini-bosses heretofore uncovered: Lizolfos, Big Octo, Flare Dancer, White Wolfos, Dead Hand, And 4 other Iron Knuckles.
Big Octo was probably what was actually causing Jabu Jabu's indigestion.
Flare Dancer can be only one person: The Scarecrow. He does not appear in the future at all. And, looks like a scarecrow on fire.
Hmm ... What else does this look like? Enemies from the dark world ala A link to the Past. Does that mean the "Dark World" is actually a Dark Future corrupted by Ganon and Demise? Or is it the power of the dark realm sleeping through, and warping people like what happened in Twilight Princess?
What is really upsetting to me however... Is Dead Hand's appearance... Doesn't he look like a salesman of sorts...? An... Unhappy... Mask Salesman?
This is the duality of Link:
Skulltula Slayer, and Skulltula Curse Breaker.

Just popped into my head: Wind is the last one standing after a hard fight and has to care for all of the others
Thanks for this awesome request, Karalora!! This is basically just Wind and Warriors trying to out-mother each other lol
CW: Blood, injury
“Sit down, Wars! Goddesses, how many times do I have to tell you?”
Wind watches in his peripheries as Warriors flops back against the log behind him with a pout. The fact he protests no further is testament to how much grief his mangled leg is giving him, and Wind makes a mental note to get to him next after he finishes tending to Sky.
He winds the bandage one last time around Sky’s torso and pins it in place, testing the give to check that it’s neither too tight nor too loose. Sky lets out a hiss at the motion and Wind winces in sympathy. He knows first-hand how much broken ribs hurt, even after half a red potion.
“Remember to take deep breaths every once in a while,” he tells him. “You’ll end up with pneumonia or something if you don’t.”
Sky nods and manages a weak smile.
“Thanks, Buddy,” he wheezes.
“No problem.”
“Are the others—” He coughs painfully. “Are the others going to be okay?”
Wind sets a firm gaze over the rest of the group sprawled about the makeshift camp, still covered in ‘Blin blood as well as their own. Time and Wild are out cold, laid out on bedrolls, blankets up to their chins, though ultimately alive and relatively fine after taking serious blows to the head.
Twilight sits curled around his left arm, face ashen in what Wind can only assume is pure agony as blood seeps through the tourniquet he tied after Twilight adamantly refused to accept a red potion until everyone else had been healed. Selfless bastard.
Legend and Hyrule are mostly uninjured but are both suffering from extreme exhaustion after bringing out the magical big guns, so to speak. They’re asleep curled up against each other in a way Legend would probably appreciate no one ever speaking about again. It’s an image Wind files away for a time less pressing.
Four, he’s happy to see, is applying cream to the burns on his torso just as instructed, his face pale and drawn.
Wind, well—Wind is dead on his feet. There’s nothing like the looming possibility of your closest friends’ deaths to take it out of you, that’s for sure. That threat seems mostly to have blown over now though, and he allows himself to relax slightly, release some of the tension he’s been carrying with him since the fight started. They’re all breathing, their hearts are still beating. They’ll be fine.
“Yeah,” he says, turning back to Sky and giving him a small smile. “Yeah, everyone’s going to be okay.”
“All thanks to you,” Sky tells him softly. “I don’t think anyone’s going to be underestimating you ever again after this.”
His mind flashes back to the battlefield. Standing breathless, sword held high as the last enemy falls. The abrupt silence that followed was like being plunged under the waves of a churning sea, and his eyes were wide as he picked out the scattered colours of his friend’s tunics among the pool of enemy bodies.
He had never felt so horrified to be the last one standing.
“You better not,” he says, his tone light-hearted yet decidedly meaningful. Sky chuckles weakly as he leaves to crouch by Warriors’ side instead.
The Captain’s leg is a mess of torn material and skin, blood soaking his trouser leg from his ankle to just above his knee. None of the wounds looks particularly deep, just extensive, and probably horribly in danger of infection considering they were wrought by a particularly aggressive Wolfos. He feels the Captain’s eyes on him as he unsheathes his smallest knife from his belt and begins to carefully cut away the material around the wounds.
“You shouldn’t be looking after us alone,” Warriors tells him stonily, and if he didn’t know him better, it would be as if there was no emotion behind the words at all. Just haughty condescension.
“Well, there’s no one else to help, so I don’t have much choice.”
“I could have.”
“No,” Wind snaps. “You couldn’t have. You shouldn’t be walking on this leg for at least a day even after you take a potion.”
Warriors tuts and shakes his head. “There are too many of us for you to be looking after by yourself.”
And that hurts. Wind knows it shouldn’t mean anything because Warriors would say that to any one of them in the same position—probably even Time if it came down to it. But he’s so sick of being treated like a child, so sick of everyone treating him like he’s not as capable just because he’s younger. What does he have to do to prove to them he’s worthy of their trust?
“I can do it,” he growls through clenched teeth, pressing a little too hard in the process of cleaning out a bite mark and making Warriors’ leg jump from the pain.
“Wait, Wind, that’s not—” Warriors begins, only to have Wind ignore him resolutely. “Sailor, look at me.”
Wind does, because Warriors has this way of speaking that makes you want to listen. It’s probably what makes him such a good captain, but it’s mighty frustrating when Wind is trying to give him the silent treatment.
“I know you can do it,” Warriors tells him seriously, “Goddesses, I saw how you saved us all in the final moments of the battle, you were like a damned hurricane, you impressed us all. I just mean you shouldn’t have to. We should’ve been better; we should have fought harder and I should’ve come up with a better plan—” He hisses as he shifts his leg thoughtlessly. “It was a total wipe-out and you’re the one left having to deal with the aftermath. It’s not fair to you.”
Wind scoffs and concentrates once more on cleaning his leg, though something warm makes itself known in his chest.
“We all did the best we could,” he dismisses, but the tone of their silence lightens considerably in the moments following. Wind isn’t fond of his own need for validation–he considers it one of his greater weaknesses–but he feels content, if only for now.
“Stop moving,” Wind tells Warriors after he flinches away from his touch for the umpteenth time. “You’ll only make it worse for yourself.”
Warriors grins in his peripheries.
“You’re turning into a real mother hen, you know that?”
“Learned from the best,” he replies, feeling a little of his old energy coming back despite his tiredness. “Besides, that is your fault. None of you know how to take care of yourself. Here.” He finishes disinfecting and offers Warriors one of the last remaining healing potions which he takes gratefully.
“Thanks, Sailor. Promise you’ll get some rest after this?”
“I have to check on Legend and Hyrule first. And give Twi a potion, he looks like he’s about to throw up.”
“After all that, then. I’ll keep watch—I won’t use my leg,” he amends quickly at Wind’s warning glare, “but I’ll wake you if anything comes our way.”
“I don’t know…” he glances at Warriors’ leg with trepidation. He should be the one resting, really.
“Let me do this for you, Wind? Please?”
Wind hesitates only a moment before nodding.
Checking on Legend and Hyrule is not a huge task; they really do seem fine despite their obvious exhaustion, and Twilight finally accepts a potion with a pained grunt and a quiet “thank you.” Then, finally, the last of the rushing adrenaline silences in his ears and it takes all that he has to keep himself from collapsing where he stands. Instead, he stumbles back over to Warriors.
“Come here, Sailor,” Warriors says, his smile faintly amused. Wind huddles under his offered arm and practically melts into his side, his eyelids already drooping.
“Promise you’ll wake me if any monsters come?” he mutters, soothed by the rise and fall of his friend’s chest against his cheek.
“I promise. I’ve got your back; now go to sleep.”
And so, he does.
