In today's update of "String", the urban fantasy webcomic, it's not a proper villain tantrum without superfluous property damage.

A new chapter of "String", the urban fantasy webcomic, begins with turning out the old and bringing in the new. Rather violently.

Got hours to kill before my flight to Bologna Childrens Book Fair so I thought I'd head into town and see the sights. Hadn't appreciated until now how fiendishly difficult it is to simply "walk out" of an airport.

I drew this for Au Ra April to show off my OC, Rain Draconis.
A bit of backstory, she was found on the riverside by a Lalafell couple in the aftermath of the Calamity with no memory of who she was - and nobody else seemed to know her either. Dalamud's fall scrubbed a lot of memories, some more severely than others, but Rain's case was particularly acute by how total it was, there was no one around who could remember her past for her, she'd been deleted down to the aetherical level.
Funnily enough, being utterly free of any kind of past helped her maintain a positive attitude that rarely relented in the face of hardship and inspired her to experience as much of this wild world as possible. But while physical evidence of her past was hard to come by, it did exist - not under the Ruby Sea or on the Azim Steppe where she expected, but in Werlyt, long under Garlean occupation by one Gaius van Baelsar who had adopted a number of Au Ra foundlings, one of whom had mysteriously escaped his memory.
The person who existed in the snippets was nothing like Rain as she understood herself. Dour, introverted, committed, in many ways closer to the grimly devoted Azem Hydra described to her by the Ancients than the flighty and keen Warrior of Light the present day was familiar with. She didn't know what this indicated about herself but she did not find it comforting one bit, and worried at times whether she was one more bad experience away from becoming this...creature.

Hi, Tumblr. It’s Tumblr. We’re working on some things that we want to share with you.
AI companies are acquiring content across the internet for a variety of purposes in all sorts of ways. There are currently very few regulations giving individuals control over how their content is used by AI platforms. Proposed regulations around the world, like the European Union’s AI Act, would give individuals more control over whether and how their content is utilized by this emerging technology. We support this right regardless of geographic location, so we’re releasing a toggle to opt out of sharing content from your public blogs with third parties, including AI platforms that use this content for model training. We’re also working with partners to ensure you have as much control as possible regarding what content is used.
Here are the important details:
We already discourage AI crawlers from gathering content from Tumblr and will continue to do so, save for those with which we partner.
We want to represent all of you on Tumblr and ensure that protections are in place for how your content is used. We are committed to making sure our partners respect those decisions.
To opt out of sharing your public blogs’ content with third parties, visit each of your public blogs’ blog settings via the web interface and toggle on the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.
For instructions on how to opt out using the latest version of the app, please visit this Help Center doc.
Please note: If you’ve already chosen to discourage search crawling of your blog in your settings, we’ve automatically enabled the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.
If you have concerns, please read through the Help Center doc linked above and contact us via Support if you still have questions.

Rain Draconis isn't a complete neophyte, she did remedial finger-painting back in the village, though crucially her finger-painting never blew things up.

For decades, the Disney Corporation has lobbied to extend copyright law in order to maintain a stranglehold over its most bankable characters, leading to Mickey Mouse not entering public domain in the US for 95 years.
Now ask yourselves a question, why did they stop doing that? Having bent the law to their whims for longer than most of us have been alive, why is Disney now perfectly sanguine about Steamboat Willie entering public domain and allowing any Tom, Dick or Nazi to slap their company mascot onto a crappy horror knock-off and tarnish their image? Answer's obvious really, Mickey doesn't matter to them anymore, they got massive swathes of human culture under their drum for many decades to come.
Also a helpful reminder that while the silent versions of The Gallopin' Gaucho and Plane Crazy are now public domain as well, their sound versions won't be until next year.
Still nuts I can slap this on a t-shirt and sell it in Primark and nobody can stop me. I had tons of fun coming up with the old-timey dialogue.
