while sonic didn't feel any meaningful guilt about killing cosmo — not to say he didn't grieve, or that it didn't make him deeply, miserably sad, just that he didn't particularly blame himself, both because he wasn't the type for self - blame back then and because there just wasn't time — when it happened, he never liked talking or thinking about it. and now, years removed from it and with more mental illnesses, my sonic's sense of guilt and grief have increased since the event. ( particularly with tails muses who express guilt, where i think sonic takes on a lot to spare tails some of it — 'hey, hey. hey, bud, look at me. it wasn't you. it was me, okay?' )

it's not swallowing or anything, and there's no sense of like...self - hate about it. logically, there really wasn't any other option. but still...god, he loved her. his little brother loved her. hell, sonic himself thought of her a little like a baby sister. to have had a hand in killing her...to have chosen that? it's just an old hurt he can't breathe around when he dwells on it too long. like everything else that aches, he mostly just tries not to think about it.
