08 MEDIA DIARY: Dan & Phil & Privacy
Tumblr media
HELLO INTERNET!!!!!!!! If you didn't know me in 2012-2017, you might not know about my little fixation on these two British men on YouTube. Meet Dan Howell and Phil Lester. They started out as teenagers making silly videos in their bedrooms. Dan inspired by and a fan of Phil, made his own content and - come 2009, ended up meeting Phil.
Tumblr media
(Moral of the story: Parasocial relationships work! Sometimes!)
Chaos ensues, they bond for life.
Now you can never really think of one without the other.
Tumblr media
Without getting too much into it, yes. You know the internet. There was HEAVY speculation on their relationship and sexuality. I never got into it myself, but it was a huge part of the "phan"dom in the early days. Inescapable. Them openly denying that they were gay while their fanbase wrote insane erotic fanfiction (think: hamsters, peeling of skin), made "evidence" edits, and leaked footage from their private lives - It was a wild ride, and dare I say invasive at times. They did come out as queer at the end of June 2019! In Dan's 45-minute-long video titled "Basically I'm Gay", we get to know a lot of his personal battle with his sexuality, yet while still barely scratching the surface of it all.
Tumblr media
"Obviously we were more than friends, but it was more than just romantic. This is someone that genuinely liked me. I trusted them. And for the first time since I was a tiny child, I actually felt safe. And the relationship we formed at that point was something that I needed in my life. We are real best friends, companions through life, like actual soulmates." is what Dan says about Phil, choosing not to elaborate further. He sets a boundary with his audience, stating that he wants to keep his personal life private (and so does Phil).
I respect that dearly, and I am glad that the fanbase has matured a bit more over the years to abide by that boundary (at least from what I've gathered. I hope... Looking up their names seems to say otherwise). Learning what to keep private and what to turn into content is a fascinating practice. Especially when you're a celebrity whose entire brand revolves around your person, stories, and hijinks. There will always be people who you can't control - those who view you as a commodity, a story to unpack and watch unfold. I feel like none of us are built to be seen by this many people at once. On a personal account, everytime I've encountered a brush of virality I go a bit cuckoo and I find myself withdrawing into a shell. It really does take a certain strength/dissociation to be perceived by so many.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyways, they uploaded a video on their shared gaming channel recently! "A Fan Perfectly Recreated Our House in Roblox". Self-explanatory, and also not clickbait! It was fun seeing their old apartment perfectly recreated as they occasionally showed clips of videos, reminiscing about their old content.
youtube
...Pretty jarring to see their real street views outside their windows, though! (O_o) ( 8:38 ) A bit funny, but also not funny at all. I giggled, had a bit of a haha hehe, but I also worried. There are definitely people out there who stalk creators by going to places they frequent, or even their own homes just from clues online.
Everyone is a content creator to some extent, so we need to be mindful! Digital footprint, guys! Moral of the story is shut your blinds and throw away your phones and delete yourself off the face of the internet and change your name and live off the grid and. I'm kidding... I also wrote this at 1.25am and am unsure how to end it. GOODNIGHT INTERNET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Goodnight Chris.

Waterparks Members (and Friends)
Here is a little rundown on the members of Waterparks and the friends that they hang out with a lot!
Tumblr media
Awsten Constantine Knight
Birthday: January 17, 1992
Role: Lead singer and rhythm guitarist
Took his driver's license picture to look naked
Legally changed his name from "Austin" to "Awsten."
Awsten is one of the most interesting people I had to learn about. He created Waterparks as one of his passion projects. He has synesthesia, which means he sees sounds and hears colors. He also has heterochromia, which means his eyes are different colors. He made his own fashion line called High Definition Industries. Awsten is really chaotic most of the time, but he does have a sweetness to him.
Tumblr media
Geoff Wigington
Birthday: July 2, 1989
Role: Lead guitarist
Legend of Zelda enthusiast
Has a child
Geoff is an absolute sweetheart. He is not the best with words, but he always brightens up everyone's day. He brings a comfortable presence with him. There was an ongoing joke that Geoff loves minions, but he absolutely despises them. I love Geoff and you should too.
Tumblr media
Otto Danielle Wood
Birthday: December 20, 1990
Role: Drummer
Possibly a serial killer
Never used the Internet, he literally had to ask Awsten if it costs anything to make a Gmail.
Otto may look like Weird Al's ripped nephew, but he's not. He's allegedly the most unhinged member of Waterparks. He actually got inspired to play the drums because of the drummer in the animatronic band at Chuck E. Cheese. Other than that, not much is known about him since he does not use any form of social media. His biggest music inspiration is My Chemical Romance though!
______________________________________________________________
The following people are not actually a part of Waterparks but are closely related to them. They do interact with the band a lot, so if you are joining the FANDOM (like the album hahah), you should definitely become familiar with these people.
Tumblr media
Jawn Rocha
Birthday: September 18, 1992
Role: Photographer, mainly just for Waterparks but he takes photos for other bands too!
Jawn has been a friend of Awsten's for a long time, he even was a part of the same band as him before Waterparks. Jawn eventually found his place in photography and he streams on Twitch occasionally.
Tumblr media
Travis M. Riddle
Birthday: December 24, 1992(?)
Occupation: Author
Travis has known Awsten before the band was a thing. He has helped Waterparks with various things: correcting their lyrics on Genius.com, giving his opinion on their music before released, starring in some of their music videos, and overall just being a good friend. Travis has also written a couple of books, such as Mother Pig and Balam, Spring.
Tumblr media
Zephani Jong (Zeph)
Birthday: April 18, 1999
Occupation: Singer
Zeph is one of the band's most recent friends, she made a vocal appearance on the song "Crying Over It All." She makes and produces some of her own music, most of which just being little songs she uploads on YouTube. Awsten actually recorded guitar for her song "scared of everything." Zeph has built a pretty large digital footprint, mostly just tweeting her thoughts out on Twitter. She is focused on growing and becoming the artist she wants to be.
Tumblr media
De'Wayne Jackson
Birthday: June 27, 1995
Occupation: Rapper
De'Wayne has been buddies with Waterparks for quite some time now. He's toured with them a couple of times and even provided some vocals for the song "LIKE IT." Though, Awsten did a feature on his song "Perfume." De'Wayne has mixed the genres of rock and rap to create his own unique sound. His mission was to show no one should live in boxes and neither should their music.

In response to your questions about the timelapse videos, here are my two cents. Engagement doesn’t usually give you anything on tumblr other than a bump of serotonin, but it can lead to commissions or sales if you provide an easy link and are chill about it. But people are touchy about the word “engagement.” They want to feel like a community or maybe a cultural salon, rather than part of an extractive media process.
Your most successful process videos are going to show a satisfying finished piece at the end and give people time to look at it and go “wow.” So for most art some editing will be necessary to get there in a short video.
Another thing I should bring up is that the music you used for that sketch video was pretty grating. If you’re going to use music, i’d suggest finding something more relaxing. Just because the video is sped up doesn’t mean the sound has to be frantic.
Your painting process is so interesting, and your art is great! People here love cats with all their hearts and mostly really enjoy art. I wish you all the best!
Hi anon, thank you so much for your input! I really appreciate it, and I'm still getting used to actually getting responses, after trying to get it noticed for 10+ years (this isn't my first tumblr blog).
There's a lot going on with trying to share my art in the current internet ecosystem, probably something a lot of artists are dealing with. I'll try my best to describe what's going on on my end.
I don't like the term engagement either. I am trying to share my art through four main platforms at this time: Instagram, Tiktok, YouTube, and of course our precious hellsite: Tumblr. So my use of the term is more from the vernacular being used on other platforms, with what seems to be a kind of agreed upon use by artists of "this is what we have to deal with, so might as well lean into it." Maybe I'm mis-interpreting that (not surprising).
So far, Instagram is where I get my art noticed the most and has lead to the most sales/commissions/financial support. I think this has to do with the cat community that has formed over there. Tumblr definitely has its cat lovers, but I think a lot of them are over on IG so that they can follow internet cat celebrities and the like (I'm one of them!). So things like engagement and trends will dictate how I share my art with at least algorithm-led platforms. Also all of the cat people and friends I've met at shows regularly have Instagrams, not that that's a reason to be on there.
I agree that I should add time of the video at the end to show the piece to give it time to be seen. This can be easily accomplished if I make sure to take a photo of the art and include it in the video. I haven't had the best record of doing this due to my own ADHD and the pace at which these sketch paintings are being made.
Most of these recent sketch paintings were made back in August during CatCon on the spot! It's a crazy thing to do and I haven't seen anyone else do something quite what I'm doing, which is I guess part of my marketing for conventions and shows. So, sometimes I forget to take a picture at the end, but I'm getting better at including it in my process. And yes I call them sketches because they're fairly quick (I aim for 30 minutes for a 6"x6") and I don't get to add all the details I would like to if time was available. (I'm currently working on a new 3"x3" fully detailed piece of a famous internet cat, I've spent an hour and a half on it, and it's not done yet!)
Part of the timelapse question is not just to see what people prefer to determine how much time I should put into editing, but also how much effort I should put into digital storage. I have a couple different ways of recording footage, and the main way I've been doing so is with my iPhone. And so when I'm at events that I fly to, like CatCon, sometimes I'm having to transfer videos from my phone to an SD card until I can get home and get the footage onto a larger storage device. This can be tricky especially if I don't make sure to clear my phone storage before going to an event (something I'm adding to my list!) However, if I use the timelapse feature already available on the iPhone, then that makes editing and storage even easier for me later. I used this a lot with my Black Cat October series. But this timelapse footage doesn't look as good (maybe) and I don't have the option to do other edits later. Which then comes to the question for myself, am I really going to go back and make another edit for these sketch paintings? Perhaps the answer is timelapses for sketches, and full videos for fully detailed paintings.
And thank you for your input on the music part! The reason for the music in the last video was because of what's trending right now. Sometimes IG will save a copy of the video I posted with whatever music, so I had reused it in today's post. I think I'll make sure to use something more soothing/calming going forward just for tumblr, because you all have a special place in my heart.
Usually I'll open TikTok and do a separate video save to have a hi-res copy with music, but since I had recently created a shop on TT I only have commercially available music. Maybe I should take the shop down anyways, I'm really not sure if it'll help my art get notice or sell more stickers. I'd rather manage sales from my website anyways, but I feel like I should at least give it a try. You're welcome to tell me your thoughts on that!
I could go more into detail about my process for just uploading videos, but I feel like this is already getting TLDR. So feel free to let me know if you want me to ramble some more! I'd love to get input on that, as well as get an idea of what other artists are doing since I have no idea what I'm doing!

The biggest difference of here vs twitter - twitter is for marketing and chatting and networking - while here is designed for building and sharing art. Twitter does not provide us any tools for building content. We have 150 characters and shit resolution media. I keep saying in my youtube videos (which I will make a new soon) we need the right tools for the job. Here we can curate, have multi blogs for diff content and reach diff artists. We are able to customize visuals and build easy websites that update content while we are hanging with our friends. Like this for example:
Tumblr media
It came together pretty quickly actually. It's important as artists that we present our best selves how we define it in each moment. It's an ongoing thing of redefining who we are while we sculpt our digital identities. Some people land on it quick and go, others it takes time and it's fine. Art marketing on twitter has become an attention game. Who can get the most eyes on them and their work gets the dough. It seems simple but not obvious to many. For those who see it but don't succeed it's frustrating and they get lost in the crowd. Here though - it's a building game. What dope shit can you build? What dope art are you making? This building game can help translate to the attention game. Once you have built a solid identity of who you are as an artist, it's easier to go out and get attention. I'm not making official tutorials or anything, but I'm trying to be as transparent in what I'm doing by talking about it here and on twitter. It's not easy to follow sometimes, and I appreciate people who are trying to watch and learn. I'm also learning too in different ways. We all need to build for ourselves though. Decentralization means we are each our own leader. We need to have people to lean on yes, but at the end of the day it's what we build for ourselves that brings the good stuff to us. Not chasing collectors, or clout, or any of that stuff. Build dope shit and make them come to you. Coming back to tumblr is like showing the basics in building. So many of us who have gained traction in the space were on tumblr in different ways for a long time. These my deep thoughts. Hope they help <3
Tumblr media
Update: from this writing I pulled out the one succinct thought I wanted to tweet. Short snappy phrases get peoples attention most. Usually this long form type of writing is in DMs with friends and I tweet out.
Am I tweeting for attention? Kinda - most of the tweets are a thought pattern and bookmark for me. I throw them into the ocean of Twitter thoughts to see how people react. From there I know better where to navigate myself or what needs to be done for what I’m trying to accomplish. I can’t explain that part very well but they are for me first and others second, I know that.

We all want to be entertained, distracted from our lives. There's nothing wrong with a Netflix or YouTube binge, but perhaps its not so great that its become the default for us, or at least for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some TV, but watching the crew of the Discovery getting themselves into trouble, or the Click (wholesome though he is) making jokes about goofy memes doesn’t actually accomplish anything, and it takes time that could be used in more fulfilling ways.
Social media can be a great resource, and a serious distraction. I decided to back away from social media almost entirely once I realized I was letting people I didn't know piss me off, especially when I wasn't going to change their mind (hello Dunning-Krueger, didn't see you over there).
To challenge myself and get my head on straight, I'm embracing Cal Newport's Digital Detox for March, eliminating social media and all streaming video. I'm letting myself have access to a limited number of sites, primarily 84000, Suttacentral, and the Storygraph. I'm also planning to post to Mastadon twice a day (a poem and 3 good things), and Tumblr. I'm not restricting podcasts, audio books or music. I'll be using Basecamp, Meetup, and Zoom for personal development and to keep commitments I've made. I'm planning to revert my phone to something akin to what Steve Jobs originally intended, a sort of smart dumb phone that can make calls, texts, access messaging apps, maps, the app for my smart scale, One Bus Away, Streaks, audio, YNAB & my bank, and thats about it. In other words I'm making my phone a tool again. The question of course, becomes what to do without access to technological pacifiers. The answer really is most anything that doesn’t require a computer or smartphone, but some of my favorites these days include:
Meditation: I've been practicing based on the teachings of the Nalandabodhi, and Shambhala lineages recently and plan to meditate for seven minutes in the morning and/or evening, in addition to short sessions sporadically throughout the day. I'll also be single tasking for the most part, using activities like reading, walking, reading/composing poetry, and painting, as meditative practices.
Yoga: I got into yoga asana because I was stiff and not very grounded, and I decided to train to teach for similar reasons, since yoga is so pigeon holed as something only bendy acrobats can do. I've not gotten on the mat in a few years at this point, but want to get back to it, inspired by my teacher starting to teach again earlier this week after an extended health crisis. I'm planning to just do a couple minutes to start, probably just Sun Salutations/playing around.
Walk: A great form of exercise most anyone can do, and it doesn’t have to cost a thing as long as you have a decent pair of shoes and appropriate clothes for the weather. I've been taking daily walks more regularly recently, but most of the time this is a bookstore circuit that leads to lots of temptation. Going forward I'm planning to walk more in nature and go to libraries instead. I'm setting a 12k goal in Streaks, and shooting for 20k. I've already been hitting in this range most days which has helped with some serious weight loss.
Read: I’ve always got a couple books going. At the moment the list includes a commentary on the 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva, and Donut Economics by Kate Raworth. Books are magical things. You can learn most anything you might be interested in (I highly recommend Raworth's book), you can learn about another person’s experience of life in their own words (Montaigne basically invented the personal blog before the internet or computers were a thing when he thought up the essay format). You can also exercise your imagination and relax with a good novel (the human imagination has one solid advantage over TV & movies in that it isn’t restricted by a budget!) The plan is to dial back and do my best to only read one or two books at a time instead of the four or five I've usually got going. I'm also planning to read more poetry after my interest was reignited by Sister Jina's wonderful collection, which leads to the next item.
Write: Mostly when I say write I'm thinking of journaling and composing poetry by hand. I'm shooting for spending some time every day writing, but not worrying about getting a polished poem at the end. Just fifteen minutes of concentrated work.
Paint: I've taken a couple classes on watercolor and messed around a bit with acrylics. I'd like to spend some time each day painting, actually focused on having something to show for it each time, though that could be childish goofing around. I'd like to take a shot at using acrylics to recreate ukiyoe, get inspired by Zen/Chan watercolors, and take a shot at Sumie, though I definitely want to take a class in the latter at some point sooner than later!
PLAYING WITH MY CAT: Do I need to explain?
NOTHING: Seriously, we've become so obsessed with "productivity" and "getting things done" that as a culture its as if we've forgotten what it is to be alive as a human being. I'm going to try to do this more often, whether standing in line, walking somewhere, or just having nothing in particular to do.
I'm not expecting March to be easy, but thats kind of the point. I'm getting rid of some things I enjoy , but the fact that something isn't easy just means its more worth doing. I'll be journaling about it, and plan to post here once a week.

Now that I'm back logged into Tumblr, I'm still trying to kind of, like, figure out exactly how to best spread my interactions across multiple social media platforms. Maybe I'm risking spreading myself too thin, but also I figure I need to plant seeds in multiple locations just in case Twitter just collapses like a Jenga tower. I have a digital tablet collecting dust, so a little earlier I did a crappy little self portrait sketch. I had kind of had this idea that as I practice sketching again (which I do on and off and never really progress in my skill very far for that reason), I'd actually start dropping them over onto Cohost since I really can't think of a good specific purpose for Cohost. If you're curious, you can see that specific post over here.
That having been said, I don't really know if that's the right plan...? I've already got a semi-established Tumblr, it's just a little dusty is all. Maybe I should be sketching and dumping over here instead. But I dunno. Maybe crossposting isn't a terrible idea, but if I crosspost everything it makes using each of those platforms not especially special.
Or maybe I don't actually know what the hell I'm talking about and I'm thinking about it way too hard. I dunno. I just wanna cultivate a community in every possible place, because I managed to reach 20,000 followers over on Twitter, but I don't NEARLY have a community of that size on any other platform, except for YouTube.
Ah, hell, I mean, really, I should be poking around at YouTube again, I guess. I try, but, like, my focus for long-form videos just isn't there anymore. Life is just too much now for all that.
I'unno. Just a whole bunch of thoughts and stuff.

i dont like how so many stories these days try to present themselves in an ARG format mainly because they are doing so by posting on social media websites which is Really limiting in terms of.. idk theres probably a word for this but im in bed about to sleep and cant be assed to look it up but like, supplemental storytelling? through elements other than the actual raw text of the story? im speaking in terms of text-based here but this is for any form of media like theres the straightforward Information being delivered to your brain and then there are things surrounding that information. and oftentimes that surrounding set dressing is like. the twitter sidebar. you know? its something you dont have control over. and that means you cant do one of the coolest things made possible by multimedia Digital Age Storytelling which is establish a framing pattern and then break it. of course there are non-digital things that do this too (i hear tell that the watchmen graphic novels do this but ive never read them myself) but its so intuitive to do it on the web. homestuck (SIGHHH) for all its bullshit does this really well by setting up Here is where the panel goes and Here is the text underneath it and This button shows/hides more text and This is the navbar on the top with all the links and then it proceeds to fuck with all of those elements to add more punch to the story. the panels get really wide so you have to scroll them and the background changes color and the links at the top get overwritten when the narrative framing changes and sometimes these collapse buttons dont actually work or dont have dialogue in them or Whatever!! and there are a lot of stories out there being written Right Now that contain Vastly Better Content than homestuck but they are losing some je ne sais quoi because they are happening in like, twitter threads, and on youtube and stuff. genuinely makes me sad how personal websites have been outcompeted by social media. and yes i do Enjoy social media and yes it is much more convenient to have One Place To Look At Jokes And Pictures instead of having to check 400 separate blogs, but man. sometimes i just wonder like how much more we couldve gotten from mother horse eyes if it hadnt limited itself to reddit comments. what if petscop had the liberty to alter the structure of the video player you were watching it in. all of this really is part of my Strong Internal Logic that the best piece of media in a given format is that which Does Everything Only That Format Can Do. house of leaves is the best book (**that ive read in my life so far) because it does so much that is only possible Because it is a book. my ideal movie wouldnt even really be a "Movie" so much as it would be my Favorite DVD or Favorite VHS Tape or whatever because to me the best media is that which takes full advantage of the format its in, as opposed to kinda just pretending it Isnt one? i think stories that dont just act like they are a pure stream of information being beamed into your head are simply better. acknowledge the fact that i am Reading Words on a Device. and then use that to accomplish something thematically. im almost certain this post is completely incomprehensible but maybe i will read it again when i wake up and have some kind of epiphany that 2 In The Morning Me is not capable of understanding. peace out

How Many Main Pillars of Digital Marketing Are There?
Reaching out to individuals online or through other digital channels is termed digital marketing. Despite its seeming complexity and daunting nature, digital marketing is actually quite simple. All efforts made to market and promote a business using the internet and electronic gadgets are "digital marketing."
It goes without stating that digital marketing today performs significantly better than traditional media and advertising in terms of spending and results. You can also obtain sales and lead generation reports with a few clicks.
There are four pillars. To develop an effective digital marketing strategy, each of these components should be carefully considered as it is significant as a whole.
Tumblr media
What Are the 4 Pillars of Digital Marketing ?
Here are the four pillars of digital marketing that makes it effective and successful.
1. Content Marketing
The main component of digital marketing is content. These days, a lot of businesses employ content marketing to connect with prospective clients. While a call to action might be tucked away, this type of marketing is not overt. Instead, the Best Digital Marketing Company makes an effort to pique interest in a business's goods and services by producing interesting content. Your target market is a key consideration when developing and curating content because different people have varied interests.
Three Types are Yext, Audio, and Video.
1. Text
Blogs are the most popular format in which text is used in content marketing. Create a blog and post interesting articles about your area of expertise to attract clients for almost nothing by using web resources.
2. Audio
As long as there have been radios, there has been audio marketing. Audio marketing is growing, even though traditional radios might be losing their appeal. It is presumably due to how simple it is to interact with. You can do a variety of work while listening to an audiobook or podcast.
3. Video
Making and sharing videos has never been easier, thanks to the growth of social media sites like YouTube. To put together a live stream, webinar, or course that allows you to communicate with clients in time. A video is a terrific approach to literally demonstrate to everyone what your product or service is about when it comes to explanatory information.
Tumblr media
2. SEO
SEO is the first of our three digital marketing pillars. The method of improving websites and online content for search engines to rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs) and increase organic traffic is called search engine optimization.
The procedure of improving the website's content to increase search engine visibility and draw users from relevant queries. It includes picking the appropriate keywords, refining on-page components, creating valuable content, obtaining organic backlinks, and enhancing user experience.
While reaching out to your target audience is the foundation of most digital marketing strategies, SEO operates differently. This type of inbound marketing enables prospective clients to approach you directly. You may boost website traffic by making your website appear higher on search engine result pages.
Your chances of obtaining clients increase with the number of people who interact with your content. SEO optimization is a form of art for Best Digital Marketing Company. In addition to making sure your material is pertinent, you also need to make sure it incorporates keywords that people use frequently.
53% of website traffic comes from organic search, according to a survey, making SEO an essential part of any digital marketing plan.
3. Social Media Marketing
Social media marketing is one of the prominent types of digital marketing available today (SMM). To accomplish your branding and marketing goals, social media marketing (SMM) entails sharing and producing interesting content on one or more social media channels.
Successful SMM activity consists of text and image updates, videos, and anything else that motivates your audience to interact. Paid social media marketing can significantly increase your company's visibility and brand awareness, depending on your budget.
4. Paid Advertising
PPC advertising offers a focused method of contacting possible clients. It can immediately increase traffic and conversions in a very effective way.

how is digital marketing changing the future
Marketing has become very dynamic. There was a time when we thought a billboard could do all the work to sell our products, but like every other aspect of our lives, technology has changed it forever.
We have not only improved the way we create advertisements, but we have also made an impact on the way people buy our products. Now, the ideal way to increase sales is to be where your consumers are, and that’s not necessarily a physical place.
Outdated Versus Innovative Marketing Strategies
Digital marketing, like every other form of marketing, is in constant change. The days of leaning on print magazines or billboards for business advertisements, thinking they alone could generate enough buyers for a company to be successful, are gone.
Not long ago, companies became successful by explicitly showing their products, telling us how they would solve our problems and constantly promoting how they were better than the competition. Nowadays, people trust other consumers more than they trust direct brand advertisements. In some ways, the mission now is understanding that people don’t want to buy something that is obviously displayed as a product.
Every day, companies are creating new ways to make people feel like they want their products -- or even better, like they actually need them. Consumers want to make their own choices and buy what they buy for personal reasons. According to research from ODM Group, over 70% of consumers consult social media before making a purchase. So, people don’t always choose by themselves when buying something. They often want to know what others think first.
Here are two strategies I've found to be effective to sell your product or service in a more subtle way:
Tell stories. Reliving moments from someone else’s experience, watching real-life scenarios or sharing content that's interesting, unusual, shocking or emotional can help to create consumer engagement with your brand. Nike does a great job of promoting its products with storytelling. The brand incorporates videos into its social strategy, featuring humble and empowering stories from strangers, athletes and celebrities, like this one. When done well, this approach can create an emotional connection with a brand.
Leverage reviews. For some reason, we choose to believe the advice from strangers. According to a BrightLocal survey, "85% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations." Establish a channel for reviews on your social media platforms. It’s a helpful, authentic way for consumers to get to know more about your company.
Authenticity
Another current trend in marketing is spontaneously generated buzz. The key driver is authenticity, which is one of the reasons why influencers are so popular right now.
To increase audience engagement, brands must now focus on showing, not telling. If you embrace authenticity, your customers can help do your marketing for you. One way to create that kind of genuine passion for your brand is by choosing the right personas to portray your product.
According to Cisco, by 2021, 80% of online content will be video. This not only means continued opportunities for YouTube influencers, but it’s also likely that authenticity and charisma will be more profitable than ever.
How can you leverage personas more authentically?
Measure ROI with links/promo codes. One of the best ways to track if the influencer you selected is profitable is by giving them tracking links or coupon codes. At the end of each month, you can track the number of sales attributed to the influencer.
Choose someone who knows about the field. You need to be careful and find someone who has similar characteristics to your audience. Everyone wants a credible opinion to feel related to a brand and buy. According to research, 82% of consumers are "highly likely" to follow the recommendation of a micro-influencer.
The Downside Of Digital
Nowadays, there’s almost as much content being created every day as there are competitors fighting to be on top of buyers' minds. A typical mistake I see that can make brands lose potential customers is creating too much content. Just like the billboards from decades ago, people get bored when there’s too much of the same.
The good news is that digital marketing is super fluid and that means you still have the chance to renew your strategy. I'd recommend releasing content 2-3 times per week. Remember that producing a few high-quality pieces of content is better than oversaturating your audience.
The Evolution Of Digital Marketing
We need to change the customer shopping experience. More than the first stage of delight, people like to feel appreciated all of the time. You need to improve strategies for your potential customers as much as for your current ones.
The marketing process now indicates that the selling/buying system is based on a flywheel. The old, funnel-like system seemed to only care about customers before they bought. After the buying process, they weren’t a priority to help with the company’s culture, customer service or marketing strategy. The flywheel system is based on the ability of our clients to give us feedback at all times: before, during and after buying.
We live in a moment in history when technology can help us in bringing more and better audiences to like our products. It’s easier to get to more people, but it's important to realize that not all of them will be interested in your company.

Digital Image Overview
Image design is all about establishing an engaging atmosphere that advances the plot in films and television. A movie's professionally created visual design elements add to the immersion and bind everything together for the audience. But , a lot of us still might have no idea about   what makes an image, commonly used image/video formats, wrappers, and codec. So, today i’ll be talking about all those things on my blog including a lot of other information which you should know if you are a Film Student.
Let's  start with the basics.
What is Image and Video? What are they made up of?
When hearing the term Image everyone comes  with the common sentence : a visual representation of something. And to say it in a simple way that’s what it is.
A person's public perception can also be considered while defining an image. For example, a rock star trying to improve his image would dress like a professor and pick up chess. But that’s not the ‘Image' I am talking about right now.
In simple sentences, Image  is a still visual representation of either subject or object while Video is an electronic representation of  moving visual image in the form of encoded digital data.
Now what are they actually made up of in the context of the digital world? Are they just the pictures?
Pixels is the right response. A picture is made up of pixels. The smallest addressable unit on a screen is a pixel, and the number of pixels an image uses determines its quality.
Understanding Image/Video Format, Codec and Container/Wrapper
There are a lot of Image/Video Formats, Codecs and Wrappers that are being used nowadays but today i’ll be talking about most commonly used image & web video formats, wrapper and codecs.
The Codec word itself is a blend of the words coder and decoder, as well as compression and decompression. It refers to what encodes and compressees, then decodes and decompresses the data that makes up your image/video.Data is compressed for storing and sharing via codecs. The data is then decoded and uncompressed for viewing and modification. H.264 or AVC is the most widely used codec for video compression. Audio file formats or file extensions are the container or wrapper for those codecs i.e. these codecs are housed or wrapped in audio file formats or file extensions.(https://www.adobe.com/au/creativecloud/video/discover/best-video-format.html#:~:text=Video%20file%20format%20and%20codec%20basics.&text=Codecs%20encode%20data%20to%20compress,or%20wrappers%20for%20these%20codecs. )
The varieties of video file formats are numerous. To assist you better understand when to utilize each, we've compiled information on some of the most popular.
1. MP4
The most typical and widely used video format is MP4. It can store audio, video, subtitles, text, and still images and is the most widely compatible. For use on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and Twitter, it is the ideal choice.
2. MOV
The MOV file format was created expressly by Apple for use with Quicktime Player and is relatively similar to the MP4 format. The greatest video format for Apple devices is this one.
3. AVI
Microsoft's response to the MOV video file format was the AVI format. It is one of the earliest video file formats still in use, having been created in 1995. Because of the big file size, it is less suitable for streaming and sharing but is perfect for short videos and television.
4. WMV
WMV files, which are AVI's replacement, may be played on both Windows and Apple devices as long as Windows Media Player is installed. One of the few video file types that can compress data more efficiently than MP4 is WMW.
5. WEBM
Google created WEBM, another open source video file format, for HTML5.  There is no need for Flash Player or any other plugins because it plays right in the browser.
Image file format that are mostly used in web are listed below:
APNG
Animated Portable Network Graphics(.apng)
Good choice for lossless animation sequences (GIF is less performant). AVIF and WebP have better performance but less broad browser support.
Supported: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, Safari.
AVIF
 AV1 Image File Format (.avif)
Good choice for both images and animated images due to high performance and royalty free image format. It offers much better compression than PNG or JPEG with support for higher color depths, animated frames, transparency, etc. Note that when using AVIF, you should include fallbacks to formats with better browser support (i.e. using the <picture> element). Supported: Chrome, Firefox (still images only: animated images not implemented), Opera, Safari.
GIF
Graphics Interchange Format(.gif)
Good choice for simple images and animations. Prefer PNG for lossless and indexed still images, and consider WebP, AVIF or APNG for animation sequences.
Supported: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari.
JPEG
Joint Photographic Expert Group image(.jpg, .jpeg, .jfif, .pjpeg, .pjp)
Good choice for lossy compression of still images (currently the most popular). Prefer PNG when more precise reproduction of the image is required, or WebP/AVIF if both better reproduction and higher compression are required. Support: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari.
PNG
Portable Network Graphics (.png)
PNG is preferred over JPEG for more precise reproduction of source images, or when transparency is needed. WebP/AVIF provide even better compression and reproduction, but browser support is more limited. Support: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari.
SVG
Scalable Vector Graphics(.svg)
Vector image format; ideal for user interface elements, icons, diagrams, etc., that must be drawn accurately at different sizes.
Support: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari.
WebP
Web Picture format(.webp)
Excellent choice for both images and animated images. WebP offers much better compression than PNG or JPEG with support for higher color depths, animated frames, transparency etc. AVIF offers slightly better compression, but is not quite as well-supported in browsers and does not support progressive rendering.
Support: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, Safari

Export setting used for popular platforms like Youtube, Facebook, Twitch e.t.c.
While many video formats can be used effectively with these platforms, it’s important to consider details like time required to upload, process and play the video – this is tightly tied to the file size associated with the video. To maximize effectiveness, and for optimal results:
Youtube:
It itself recommends the MP4 video file format with AAC-LC audio Codec and H.264 video Codec. The optimal resolution is 1080p (1920x1080), or for better quality, 4K (3840x2160). These options strike a compromise between device compatibility and quality.
Facebook:
MP4 and MOV are the most highly recommended, with MP4 coming out on top once again due to its smaller file size and fewer losses during compression. The target audience and device capabilities should be considered while choosing the resolution.
Twitch video format:
MP4, MOV, AVI, and FLV files. AAC audio. Depending on the viewer's internet bandwidth and desired level of quality, a resolution of 720p (1280x720) or 1080p is advised.
Commonly used image manipulation tools and techniques:
Tools for image modification are necessary for altering and improving images. Here are some often employed methods and instruments along with what they are utilized for:
Adobe Photoshop - Photoshop is a flexible image editing programme that is useful for operations like retouching, color correction, and compositing.
Lightroom - With capabilities like exposure correction, color grading, and batch processing, Adobe Lightroom is ideal for organizing and enhancing photos.
GIMP - GIMP(GNU Image Manipulation Programme) is a free alternative to Photoshop that provides tools for editing and manipulating images that are similar to those of Photoshop.
Canva-An easy-to-use internet application for designing graphics and social media material. For non-designers, it makes design jobs simpler.
Image Copyright Essential and Important Legal Information that artists need to know regarding intellectual property:
Copyright is intellectual property law. Copyright and moral rights, and are legal tools that practitioners can use to protect their work from unauthorized use, to protect their reputation or brand, and generate income.
Copyright regulations must be understood by artists and content producers in order to safeguard their creative property. Important copyright requirements include:
Ownership: When a work is created, its creators immediately acquire the copyright to it. However, registration offers further legal protection.
Fair Use: Fair use permits the limited, unrestricted use of copyrighted content for functions including criticism, commentary, news reporting, and teaching without seeking prior authorisation.
Creative Commons licenses, for example, allow creators to grant certain conditions under which their work may be used while still upholding their rights.
Attribution: When using copyrighted material, proper attribution is often required to credit the creator.
Public Domain: Public domain works are free to use and are not covered by copyright.
DMCA Takedowns: Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), content that violates copyrights can be removed from online platforms upon request.
For content makers, whether amateur or professional, understanding digital image and video formats, codecs, export settings, image modification tools, and copyright essentials is crucial. Creators may make sure their work is of a high standard, gets seen by the correct audience, and is shielded from unauthorized usage by following legal requirements and best practices. WHAT IS AFFILIATE MARKETING
Tumblr media
What if we offer you a deal to promote our services, and in return, you get a profit whenever it works from your end?
This is simply what affiliate marketing is.
When a third party is involved and takes upon the task to promote your business, service or product for you in exchange for a profit, it translates to affiliate marketing.
Basically, when digital marketing new trends erupted, they made sure that affiliate marketing was on the rise to become a billion dollar resource to it.
Some of the big players in this industry are e-commerce giants like Amazon, Ebay, Shopify, Buzzfeed and many others.
How Affiliate Marketing goes
The foremost reason of its popularity is it’s free to join agenda, which makes it one of the most sought after marketing channel with a great payout scheme. Affiliate marketing resources are easy to harness, but the strategy that goes behind it takes a lot of strength and mind-mapping.
As a side hustle and a profitable business idea for sales, it is one of the most harnessed social media marketing resources around the world. There are many ways in which this marketing strategy is a win-win situation for both merchants as well as affiliates.
This kind of marketing can be seen anywhere, on any platform by you as a user. You may encounter this in YouTube videos, Blogs, Social Media posts, Podcasts, Websites and many other platforms.
Every major e-commerce website has generated its own affiliate marketing program, and a unique link is generated in their name once they sign up. With that, this link can be advertised directly or indirectly within the content marketing strategy. If the user clicks, signs up or makes a purchase through that specific link, it is recorded by the algorithm and the affiliate receives monetary compensation or service relaxation according to the percentage or deal made with the platform.
Usually, affiliate marketing is seen majorly promoting e-commerce platforms, and now with recent trends, it is also promoting services and experiences.
Tumblr media
What kind of affiliate marketing techniques can be practiced?
There are times when you actually use a product & sometimes not. But an opinion sure forms around it whether you have used it or not.
The same way, affiliate marketers have been categorized according to the kind of work they put in generating sales for a particular product.
Unattached– As a side hustle, many affiliate marketing experts are actively involved in numerous advertising hustles, and are not involved in reviewing every product they use. They find it resourcefulness, integrate their links across platforms and wait for the users to click and purchase on their own accord. This type of affiliate marketing is known as unattached affiliate marketing. This type can backfire in case the product or service you recommend takes a turn for the worse.
Related– Suppose, you are an affiliate working in the beauty niche. There are a plethora of products that you haven’t tried yet, but are eager to recommend because of its quality. Here, you actually take an interest in the product without risking your credibility. Transparency builds the backbone of trust in this field, and you don’t want to lose that!
Involved– The best and the easiest type of affiliate marketing to be involved into- because here, you are actually able to use the product, define it according to your niche and attract consumers based on your true definitive ideas about it. You come forward as a trusted source on any topic in that niche, even if you are not actively promoting it.
The money matter- How do affiliates receive compensation?
Unlike any other field, there are certain parameters on which the affiliates work. According to recent marketing news, it is not always the purchase from the consumers side that decides the remuneration, but also many other actions that take place. For services and growing e-commerce platforms, it is necessary to grow their clientele and brand awareness first and then concentrate on sales. Affiliates also work on social media marketing strategies to push the brand awareness first.
Some of the listed actions on the consumer front are considered for receiving compensation.
Pay per sale
Pay per click
Pay per lead
Pay per install (for services and apps)
Pay per action (click, subscribing, forms and enquiries)
Average affiliates can make around hundreds to thousands of dollars per month, depending on the niche they work in.
The Good and Bad of Affiliate Industry
The Pros
As a side hustle, affiliate marketing resources are used to build easy money.
Easy to replicate and execute-When it comes to scaling and executing, affiliate marketing is one of the best resources that can be easily multiplied.
Low risk-With its free sign up policy and millions of affiliates working together, it is a low investment and rewarding program. Even if you have a small base, you are bound to have an income.
The Cons
Follow the platform rules- Since the platform you work with decides the commission and advertising systems for you, it becomes a hassle to work with when you do not have control over the process.
Patience is the key- It takes time to grow a consumer base, whether its digital, traditional or affiliate marketing. So having patience is something you need to have before you start off with this venture.
Commission- commissions mean variable pay, combined with the mode of action you have decided upon for qualifying for the commission. It may be percentage based or monetary, which sometimes does not sit well with affiliates.
Conclusion
According to some of the best affiliate marketing platforms in India, it is a field where you can actually thrive and make a way with your talent, or even if you don’t have much talent for it, you can speak your mind and actually enjoy monetary benefits.
As some of the best affiliate marketing experts in Gurugram, we opinionate ourselves on the fact that patience, putting the right kind of efforts and having real flair for sales strategy can surely make you a long shot player in this field. It is a system, an algorithm that grows with time, and an upfront investment in this marketing industry has benefitted many. In the times to come, it will establish itself as a billion dollar industry, and is already on its way to do so.

Why Video Marketing is a Must-Have for Selling Your Maui Home
If you're looking to sell your Maui home, one of the most important things you can do is to make sure that you're marketing it effectively. In today's digital age, video marketing is one of the most powerful tools at your disposal, and working with a real estate team that understands this can make all the difference. In this blog, we'll explore the benefits of video marketing when it comes to selling a home on Maui, and explain why Maui homeowners should choose a Maui real estate team like Nine Times Network that leverages video marketing to get results.
Visual storytelling: One of the key benefits of video marketing is that it allows you to tell a visual story about your home. With high-quality video footage, you can showcase your home's best features, highlight its unique character, and give potential buyers a sense of what it's like to live there. This can be especially powerful for homes in Maui, where the lifestyle and natural beauty of the island are such important selling points.
youtube
Increased engagement: Video marketing also tends to be more engaging than other forms of content. When you share a video on social media or on your real estate website, people are more likely to click through, watch the video, and engage with your content. This can help you reach a wider audience of potential buyers, and ultimately lead to more interest in your home.
Improved SEO: Another benefit of video marketing is that it can improve your search engine optimization (SEO). Google and other search engines love video content, and are more likely to rank your real estate website higher in search results if you have engaging, high-quality videos on your site. This can help you get more visibility for your home and reach more potential buyers.
Virtual tours: In today's fast-paced world, many buyers don't have the time or resources to visit every home that they're interested in. With video marketing, you can offer virtual tours of your home, allowing buyers to get a sense of the space and layout without actually having to be there in person. This can be especially helpful for Maui homeowners, who may be selling to buyers who live off-island.
Expert guidance: When you work with a real estate team like Nine Times Network that leverages video marketing, you'll also benefit from expert guidance and support. Adam Miller, for example, hosts a weekly video series on YouTube called Maui Mondays, where he shares tips, advice, and insights about the Maui real estate market. By following his channel, you can get a better sense of what it's like to work with a real estate professional on Maui, and learn more about the local market and the home selling process.
youtube
Local expertise: Finally, working with a Maui real estate team like Nine Times Network also means that you'll benefit from their local expertise. As a team that's deeply rooted in the Maui community, they understand the nuances of the local market, and can help you position your home in a way that resonates with potential buyers. This can be especially important for Maui homeowners, who may be selling to buyers who are not familiar with the island.
In conclusion, if you're a Maui homeowner looking to sell your home, video marketing should be a key part of your strategy. By working with a real estate team that understands the power of video, like Nine Times Network, you can leverage this powerful tool to reach more potential buyers, tell a visual story about your home, and ultimately achieve your selling goals.
