Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal, may God have mercy on him, was asked:

آپ لوگوں کے ساتھ کیوں نہیں اٹھتے بیٹھتے؟ فرمایا: جدائی کے ڈر سے۔“

Why don't you sit with the people? He said: For fear of separation.
