Imaam Shaafi’ رحمه الله:

(lines of poetry - Advice for the aspiring student of knowledge)

                                                                              أَخي لَن تَنالَ العِلمَ إِلّا بِسِتَّةٍ                                                                               سَأُنبيكَ عَن تَفصيلِها بِبَيانِ                                                                            ذَكاءٌ وَحِرصٌ وَاِجتِهادٌ وَبُلغَةٌ                                                                               وَصُحبَةُ أُستاذٍ وَطولُ زَمانِ

“O my brother/sister, you will never attain knowledge until you possess six qualities, I will inform you of these in detail and with clarity:

Sharpness of the mind ~ Be someone who is intelligent; you will not be able to understand, memorise and absorb knowledge without intellect.

Eagerness to learn~ Be someone who is dedicated; if you have all the intelligence in this world but you are not eager and you don’t want the knowledge from your heart, then you will not be able to attain and grasp the knowledge.

Sacrifice time ~ Be someone who puts effort in; you need to put in time and effort into attaining this knowledge.

Have a means ~ You should have an amount of money; your books, your travels etc all require finances.

Company of a scholar ~ Have a companionship with a teacher; Imaam mentions ‘companionship’ which shows that attaining this knowledge requires more than just reciting to your teacher and attending their classes.

Length of time ~ Knowledge is not attained overnight, or in a few weeks or months but rather a length of time.

Important for a student of knowledge to possess all of these qualities and the Qur’aan is from the best of Knowledge that a person can attain

Corona and Anxiety: Mengurai Kecemasan, Memintal Keberserahan (3/3 END)

Bersama Kesulitan, Ada Kemudahan.

"Dan Kami pasti akan menguji kamu dengan sedikit ketakutan, kelaparan, kekurangan harta, jiwa, dan buah-buahan. Dan sampaikanlah kabar gembira kepada orang-orang yang sabar." – QS. Al-Baqarah 2 : 155

Keberadaan ujian dalam kehidupan kita sehari-hari merupakan suatu yang pasti. Dalam ayat di atas bahkan disebutkan bahwa Allah akan menguji kita dengan sedikit ketakutan, kelaparan, serta kekurangan harta, jiwa, dan buah-buahan. Jika kita menariknya pada kondisi hari ini, kita dapat melihat bahwa melalui kondisi ini pun Allah sedang menunjukkan kebesarannya, Dia memperlihatkan kepada kita bahwa ayat tersebut benar adanya.

Lalu, apakah dengan begitu lantas Allah dzalim kepada kita? Tentu saja tidak! Sebab, pada ayat lain yang sering kita baca dalam shalat kita sehari-hari, Allah pun memberi kepastian yang lain, bahwa bersama setiap kesulitan pasti ada kemudahan:

“Maka sesungguhnya bersama kesulitan ada kemudahan, sesungguhnya bersama kesulitan ada kemudahan.” – QS. Al-Insyirah : 5-6

Kemudahan dari Allah bisa hadir dalam bentuk yang beragam. Boleh jadi, kemudahan itu hadir bukan dengan “soal ujiannya” yang dimudahkan, tapi ketenangan dan kelapangan hati ketika menghadapinya. 

Epilog: Memintal Keberserahan

Islam mengajarkan kita untuk percaya bahwa semua yang datang dari Allah itu khaiir, baik. Termasuk apapun yang sedang kita hadapi saat ini, insyaAllah pada dasarnya ia berasal dari bahan dasar kebaikan. Jika saat ini kita masih berupaya untuk bisa melihat sisi baiknya, tidak apa-apa, kita semua sedang berproses untuk bisa menuju kesana. Pun jika saat ini kita masih merasa sulit untuk melihat jalan keluarnya, tidak apa-apa, pelan-pelan saja. Namun, ada tiga hal yang perlu sama-sama kita ingat. Pertama, bahwa ada yang lebih besar dari ujian yang kita hadapi saat ini, yaitu Allah yang Maha Besar. Kedua, bahwa meski kita merasa tidak siap untuk menghadapinya, semua sudah ada dalam takaran dan perhitungan Allah yang sangat presisi bahwa kita akan siap menghadapinya. Ketiga, bahwa belum terlihatnya jalan keluar bukan berarti bahwa jalan keluar itu tidak ada. Yup, if we don’t see the way out, it doesn’t mean that the way out doesn’t exist.

Inilah saatnya kita meminta keberserahan: berserah kepada-Nya dalam doa-doa dan ikhtiar-ikhtiar kita. Sebab, mungkin hanya dengan menghadapi apa yang kita hadapi saat inilah kita bisa belajar, bertumbuh, hingga menjadi hamba-Nya yang lebih berdaya.

Semoga Allah memudahkan setiap urusan kita dan melapangkan apapun yang sedang menyesakkan hati kita. Mohon maaf jika ada kesalahan atau kekeliruan dalam penyampaian. Baarakallahu fiik.

1. All Hadiths included in Sahih collections

of Bukhari and Muslim are authentic.

2. Sahih compilations:

Sahih of Ibn Khuzaymah and Sahih of

Ibn Hibbân contain authentic hadiths.

3. Books which include grades of hadiths:

- Tafsir of Ibn Kathir; Ibn Kathir has

commented on the Hadiths and hinted

at the weak and fabricated reports.

- Ibn Hajar; commented on the

traditions he had included in his work

Fath al-Bāri.

- Bulugh al-Marām by Ibn Hajar; for

authenticity of legal traditions.

- 'Umdat al-Ahkām; a compiled legal

traditions and well-known work of

'Abdul-Ghāni al-Maqdisi. All of his

quoted traditions are included in

Bukhari and Muslim.

4. Sunan Books;

At-Tirmidhi, Abu Dāwud, an-Nasā'i and

Ibn Majah have all been verified by

Shaykh al-Albāni in his book as-Silsilah

as-Sahīhah which contains only the

sound and reliable Hadiths.

5. Authentic traditions of;

as-Sahih al-Musnad mimma laysa fi

as-Sahihayn by Muqbil Ibn Hādi.

6. Reports in Musnad Ahmad:

provides detailed verification and

Going to the masjid during menstruation

Going to the masjid during menstruation.

Question:

May Allah reward you with goodness for answering my question. I pray to Allaah that you are good and in a high state of iman.

Could you please clarify to me about going to the mosque during menstruation in order to seek knowledge? I'm attending some lectures and I would not like to commit any prohibition.

Zaynab El-Kateb:

There is a difference in Scholars opinions regarding this. Shaikh Al-Albani said, “the hadith prohibiting this is weak. There are many ahadeeth proving that it is allowed for a woman having her menses to stay at the masjid (mosque).”

This hadith is one of the proofs:

في صحيح مسلم، قالت: قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم لها يوماً: {ناوليني الخُمرة من المسجد} فقالت: يا رسول الله إني حائض، فقال عليه الصلاة والسلام: {إن حيضتك ليست في يدك}

'Aishah said: The Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) said to me; Get me the mat from the mosque. I said; I am menstruating. The Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) then replied: Your menstruation is not in your hand.

Above was the fatwa of Shaikh Al Albani.

I say to the Qari who is free (of his internal and worldly desires), and the person of good characteristics — who is of benefit (to his brothers and sisters), like the mirror (which benefits he who stands in front of him), a friend to light, the rod of eyeliner

It may seem weird that the Sheikh chose to end the line by mentioning what seems like an unnecessary household item. But some believe that certain types of eyeliner can be beneficial to the eye

When one advises another in the correct manner regarding a fault and the other heeds the advice and benefits from it, it is like when the eye is cured of its illness when the eyeliner from the rod is applied

When we benefit others and benefit from others, we’ve come full circle.

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh. Salam kenal, teman-teman! Saya Novie Ocktaviane Mufti, orang yang pernah merasakan kecemasan yang barangkali serupa dengan apa yang pernah teman-teman rasakan. Yup, meski di kesempatan ini saya bercerita tentang bagaimana mengurai dan mengelola kecemasan, bukan berarti saya adalah orang yang paling tenang karena tidak pernah cemas atau telah selesai dengan semua kecemasan yang saya punya. No, kecemasan itu ada, kekhawatiran itu juga ada. Jadi, kita sama, kan? Tidak apa-apa. Justru, kita butuh menyadari kondisi kita yang sebenarnya untuk mulai mengelola dan berdamai dengannya. Kita belajar dan berjuang sama-sama, ya! Hand in hand, we cope this condition together.

Apa yang Membuat Kita Cemas?

Hari ini, kita tengah berhadapan dengan sebuah isu dunia yang ramai dibicarakan oleh banyak orang dan media: pandemik Corona Virus. Di ponsel yang ada di genggaman tangan kita, banyak sekali obrolan-obrolan yang membicarakan pandemik ini. Belum lagi di sosial media. Setiap kita membuka lini masa, pemberitaan atau apapun yang berkaitan dengan isu ini selalu muncul dan menjadi berita-berita yang utama. Tidak dipungkiri, adanya arus informasi yang sedemikian cepatnya ini membuat kita teredukasi. Namun, di sisi lain, kita bagaikan sedang berhadapan dengan tsunami informasi yang tumpah begitu saja membasahi dan membanjiri diri kita.

Kadang kala kita memang sedang siap menerimanya, tapi seringkali kita berada di kondisi yang sebaliknya dimana kita tidak siap menerima dan mencerna infomasi-informasi yang ada. Tanpa disadari, hal ini memicu perasaan-perasaan yang rumit, yang entah bagaimana kita harus menjelaskannya. Kita cemas, lalu terdiam sebab tidak tahu harus berbuat apa. Atau, dalam kondisi lain, kita tahu apa yang harus kita lakukan namun merasa seolah-olah kehilangan atau kekurangan energi untuk melakukannya. Lalu bagaimana?

Kenali Apa yang Sebenarnya Sedang Terjadi.

Banyak pesan cinta Allah dalam kondisi-kondisi seperti ini, dan kita tentu tidak ingin melewatkan pesan-pesan cinta itu, bukan? Terlepas dari isu apapun yang sedang terjadi hari ini dan mencemaskan kita, barangkali kita memang sedang diperlihatkan-Nya tentang hakikat kehidupan kita di dunia. Tak ada satu pun diantara kita yang tidak suka bahagia, semua mengharapkannya. Namun, nyatanya hidup ini bukan hanya tentang bahagia. Di perjalanannya, kita tentu akan berhadapan dengan masalah, konflik, tantangan, kesedihan, kekecewaan, meninggalkan dan ditinggalkan, dan lain-lain, termasuk juga kecemasan.

Hari-hari yang riuh sangat mungkin untuk terjadi di kehidupan kita. Rasanya seperti sedang berjalan menyusuri labirin, namun ternyata di pintu keluarnya kita bertemu dengan sebuah pagelaran orkestra yang, alih-alih terdengar syahdu, suara-suaranya malah memekakkan telinga. Atau, seperti tidur kita terganggu oleh suara-suara petasan dan kembang api pada malam tahun baru. Riuh sekali! Tanpa sadar, kita pun jadi bertanya-tanya, “Allah, belum cukupkah Engkau mengujiku dengan yang sebelum-sebelumnya? Kali ini, benarkah Engkau memintaku untuk berjuang lagi? Rasanya, energiku bagaikan sudah habis, aku harus bagaimana lagi?” Suara-suara itu mengetuk kantung-kantung air mata, membasahi pipi di waktu-waktu sendiri.

Mengapa semua ini terjadi? Dalam surat cinta-Nya disebutkan,

“Dan Kami pasti akan menguji kamu dgn sedikit ketakutan, kelaparan, kekurangan harta, jiwa dan buah-buahan. Dan sampaikanlah kabar gembira kepada orang-orang yang sabar, (yaitu) orang-orang yang apabila ditimpa musibah, mereka berkata, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un” (sesungguhnya kami milik Allah dan kepada-Nyalah kami kembali).” – QS. Al-Baqarah : 155-156.

🌹Advice Regarding Knowledge

Mu’ādh Ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه said:

“Seek knowledge and learn it because acquiring it for Allāh’s sake is to be in awe of Him, to seek it is worship of Him, to revise it is to glorify Him, to search for it and research into it is Jihād, to teach it to someone who doesn’t know it is charity, to impart it to one’s family is to come close to them - that is because knowledge is the milestone and signpost for that which is Halāl and Harām. The beacon for the people of Jannah, it is a friend when there is loneliness, a companion among the strangers, a voice that speaks when one is alone, a guide in times of ease and hardship, a weapon against the enemies and a beautification in the company of friends.

Indeed Allāh raises people through knowledge and it makes them, through its goodness, into leaders and Imāms. It makes them individuals whose path is followed, and their deeds are emulated, and their views are taken, and the Angels seek their close friendship, their wings cover them, and every living and animate being seeks forgiveness for them, even the fish in the seas and its insects, the wild predators, the birds and the cattle. That is because knowledge is life for the hearts from a state of darkness.

One reaches the heights of the virtue through knowledge and the highest of stations in this life and the next. Reflecting over knowledge is equivalent to fasting and studying it is equivalent to Qiyām. By way of it, the kinship is connected, and the Halāl matters are known from the Harām - the limbs and deeds follow it, the blessed ones are guided by it and the wretched ones are prevented from it.”
