Monster Popularity Contest– Ixalan
If you want to help make decisions on what content I make, get early access to all of my releases, and join my new patron-exclusive discord, you can do so by signing up to support me on Patreon!
Last week my supporters were treated to 5 new monsters, each one from the verdant islands of Magic: the Gathering’s Ixalan setting! Normally my first release of each month is just 3 creatures, but I went a little further this time since I was adhering to some rules about MtG’s color identities.
I’m particularly proud of Beckett Brass, who I think has the most interesting design; but Gishath also turned out really well, given how easy it can be to make a big stompy dinosaur into something boring in D&D. No problems with that here though.

Magic: The Girlbossing: The Final Showdown
Over the course of the past two months, the girlbosses of the multiverse have battled it down for ultimate girlpower supremacy. We've seen some fierce competition throughout this battle, with some surprise upsets along the way! That being said, the time has come for us to end this battle and decide: who is the most girlboss?
Tumblr media
Link to Semifinals Masterpost
Let's get a brief summary of our contestants' feats going into the finals: On the left side of the bracket, we have Khan Alesha of the Mardu! A fearsome warrior from the distant past of Tarkir, and Magic's only canonical transgender woman! In her life, she lead the Mardu Horde, a warrior clan built on three edicts: "to conquer is to eat," "to rule is to bleed," "victory or death." Ancient tales of her exploits tell of her facing battle, leading her horde, and felling dragons all with a smile on her face. While she ultimately threw her banners aside to cooperate with Kolaghan's brood, her legacy is still unforgotten, with a clan of transgender warriors still battling in her honor today.
In her ascension to the top of her side of the bracket, she has slain many a challenging foe, such as: Marit Lage, the eldritch horror trapped beneath the ice of Dominaria, cutthroat queen of Fiora and schemer beyond equal, and Liliana, the demon-pact necromancer who once defined what it meant to be a Magic Girlboss.
On the right side, we have the gorgon-planeswalker assassin turned Golgari queen, Vraska! In her work as an assassin, she held one creed: "A person should die the death they deserve." Through her dramatic, ironic assassinations which called back to the way the victims lived their lives, she amassed a following by which she dispensed her own version of justice across the Ravnican Undercity. When she was forced out of the shadows by Jace, she responded by inciting revolution within the Golgari, rallying her followers to allow her ascension to the throne. On Ixalan, she became a pirate captain, sailing to find a highly sought-after treasure and ultimately succeeding in her mission. At this point she also fell in love with Jace, beginning Magic's most iconic Girlboss/Failguy relationship. As of the end of War of the Spark, Vraska stood as undisputed queen of the Golgari Swarm, with most who would stand as obstacles to her power eliminated.
Vraska, too, has faced many a foe. These include Beckett Brass, the admiral of a vast coalition of pirate crews, Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar, whose demonic dishes were to die for, Emrakul, whose interplanar influence and destruction knows only the bounds of Innistrad's ancient moon, and Teysa Karlov, a fellow guild-leader who somehow combines banking and priesthood while making it look sexy.
Beginning on Monday, May 15th at 12:00 PM EST, witness the conclusion of a story arc that honestly is better than anything MTG has actually had in the past half-decade. Will the Mardu Khan reign supreme, or will the Golgari queen cut her way to the top? That is for all of you to decide.

Your "Use Case" podcast on Drive to Work was very interesting. I think that like you said, when it comes to stickers, the use case of competitive Legacy and Vintage players that don't want to play with stickers but feeling forced or pressured to use them seems extremely low. However I believe for Commander it seems significantly higher than you might think. Theft cards are frequently played in the format by numerous players and there are multiple popular commanders that are piloted as theft decks (i.e. Admiral Beckett Brass, Thassa, Deep-Dwelling). I don't think it's unreasonable to think if you're playing theft cards or a theft deck in Commander, you may want to have a sticker sideboard ahead of the game so you don't experience a "feels bad" feeling of not able to utilize a creature or permanent you gained control of if a sticker creature is played. Do you think this makes sense or is more of a viewpoint that is cynical, unrealistic and unlikely?
The issue is keeping stickers out of highly competitive Legacy/Vintage tournament Magic. If you're playing a theft deck in a casual format like Commander, odds are you enjoy the variety of playing what other people are playing. Since it's a casual setting, the person playing stickers will most often lend you some stickers to play with if you steal a card capable of applying stickers while on the battlefield (the majority of stickering cards can't).

“Damn the cannons, mates. Charge!”
Even with their captain’s orders, Beckett Brass’s crew were hesitant to board the other ship. Meanwhile, the enemy had no qualms about firing broadside after broadside into their vessel. And so, the would-be boarding party balked at the cannons, eliciting an enraged shout from their captain.
“I said charge!” Beckett shouted.
“But cap’n,” muttered an enormous orc, as he awkwardly drummed his fingers against a portable naval cannon slung over his shoulder, “we’ll be shot to pieces before we can even swing over!”
“I SAID-”
A terrified goblin took the lead, shrieking to drown out the fearful cries of her fellow crewmates. The cannon-wielding orc followed suit, as did the rest of the boarding party. Sure enough, as soon as the pirates began preparing their ropes for the jump to the other ship, the enemy craft loosed a furious barrage at the pirates.
The buccaneers screamed, bracing for an impact that never came. When the cannon smoke cleared, sounds of confusion rose up from both ships as Beckett was revealed to have interposed herself between her crew and the enemy salvo. Her hands glowed a bright blue, but the aura faded away as she turned to berate her crew.
“What, did you think I was just saying ‘run into cannon fire for me’?”
The boarding party nervously nodded in unison. Beckett heaved a tired sigh.
“I don’t care what fleet, captain, or mother you came from, but it does not work like that around here! Petty squabbles, arguing and fighting over treasure…heh, well, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t also participate. But! Come life-or-death matters, we’re all in this together. So, I say again…Damn the cannons, mates! Charge!”
The boarding party loosed a furious shout, and leapt across to the other ship with newfound courage.

[No one would ever tell you outright, but it’s a badly-kept secret among the Brazen Coalition that Beckett Brass acts surprisingly motherly to the ships and crew she’s commandeered into her fleet over the years. Also, despite Admiral’s Order being a counterspell, it really does sound like she’s asking her guys to just run in and get blown to pieces.]

What is the one commander that inteigues you the most that you just cant be asses to build for some reason or other?
Oh definitely delpala. I love the concept of boros vehicles, and I'm very excited every time I see dwarves in a set, but delpala just feels too kaladeshi for me. I like a commander who can do more without being necessarily just a lord. My only exception to that rule is pirates. I love my admiral beckett brass

I like this new trend of badass older women. Someone with talent needs to draw these 4 as an all lady rap crew.
