Waiting on Wednesday Update (22): Summer 2012!
This is a series where I look at my old Waiting on Wednesday posts and talk about if I actually ever read the book, if I liked it if I did, and if I haven’t, would I or not. That kind of thing. I think it’s interesting to talk about books from back then, and I hope you find it interesting, too.

Book Review: Lucid by Adrienne Stoltz (alternately titled Let Me Wake)
Page Count: 343
Publisher: Razorbill
Official Description:
What if you could dream your way into a different life? What if you could choose to live that life forever?
Sloane and Maggie have never met. Sloane is a straight-A student with a big and loving family. Maggie lives a glamorously independent life as an up-and-coming actress in New York. The two girls couldn't be more different--except for one thing. They share a secret that they can't tell a soul. At night, they dream that they're each other.
The deeper they're pulled into the promise of their own lives, the more their worlds begin to blur dangerously together. Before long, Sloane and Maggie can no longer tell which life is real and which is just a dream. They realize that eventually they will have to choose one life to wake up to, or risk spiraling into insanity. But that means giving up one world, one love, and one self, forever.
My Review:
Okay. So it took me a hot minute to figure out what I wanted to rate this and I'm still not even sure if this is a correct representation. I don't think a rating can explain. For the first 250 pages of this book, I would have rated it a 1. Honestly. It was so bad. The subplots were actually ridiculous, the characters were SO shallow, the writing was flat out bad, and I was bored. The ONLY reason I didn't manage to talk myself into DNFing it was because the plot was intriguing and I wanted to find out what happened. I really just wanted to see how it ended. But again, I did not at all enjoy the first 250 pages.
The last 90-ish pages completely changed. It honestly seemed like it was written by someone else. It was riveting. I couldn't put it down. I ignored the intermittently buzzing dryer, letting our clothes get wrinkled, in favor of finishing this book that I didn't like five minutes ago. I truly had no idea what was going to happen up until the last page.
Am I glad I powered through to finish this book? Yes. Would I read it again? No, probably not.
Would I recommend it?
Hm. Depends on your tolerance for terrible writing but a decently intriguing plot. If someone asked me for book recommendations, this would definitely not be on the list. But if you already have this book in your possession or you want to pick it up at the library, go ahead. Just don’t expect anything spectacular.
Rating: 3/5

"Lúcida" faz do thriller psicológico um encontro equilibrado entre o desejo de ser outra pessoa e a verdade, por Cadorno Teles
E se você pudesse sonhar seu caminho para uma vida diferente? E se você pudesse escolher viver essa vida para sempre? Sloane e Maggie nunca se conheceram. Maggie é uma mocinha que vive em Nova York, aspirante a atriz, com uma mãe workaholic e órfã de pai, falecido há alguns anos, do qual era...

Question tag
I was tagged by @hellohwiyoung (I'm finally getting around to the last few things you've tagged me in be prepared)
1. Favourite book series/book?
Ok so I read quite a bit and I tend to forget things I read. "Peter Pan" is like my all time favourite book but I also really liked books like "Asta in the Wings" by Jan Elizabeth Watson, "Lucid" by Adrienne Stoltz and Ron Bass, basically any Laurie Halse Anderson book... yeah. (Rn I'm reading "Invisible Darkness" by Steven Williams and it's really interesting so far but it's very messed up true crime so it's very potentially triggering for many people make sure you research that if you intend to read)
2. Favourite movie?
The Disney version of Peter Pan is really close to my heart ok, I love it. I also really love Phantom of the Opera! Special mention to The Imposter.
3. What is your philosophy in life?
I don't really think I have one... but umm... just live spontaneously! Don't make your life something you'll regret!
4. Who is your bias and why?
HWIYOUNG!!!! explaining why is the hardest part... um... there has always been an unexplainable pull when it came to hwiyoung? From the first time I saw him, knowing absolutely nothing about any of them I was just like... hmmmm :)... And then as I grew to know them and learned more about who he was I only grew more attached to him. You know that feeling where you see someone and you just know you were meant to have them in your life in some way? As a friend? As a role model? As SOMETHING? It's like that I suppose. It's the same pull I felt towards certain people in high school when I just KNEW we would get along well and we were meant to be friends. So of course I already felt a strong attachment to him, but that's not all. I just really admire him in so many ways. He's so talented and nice and I could gush over my personal feelings and observations of his personality for years. He radiates warmth and sunshine and he's so beautiful and he has the prettiest, most amazing smile that makes me dizzy. I've lost track of my thoughts at least 12 times throughout this bc my mind goes blank when I think about him bc all I want to do is appreciate him in the purest way possible, with a completely blank slate. His laugh his so high pitch and precious and it's the happiest sound I've ever heard. His little oddly placed dimples or 1 monolid or his gums or his cheekbones alone are enough to make me smile but seeing all of him together is just!! A rush! He's art and it hurts my heart to know he gets embarrassed about his cute little teeth and his gums and ah! Every time he does anything my overwhelming love for him is renewed. That 1 vlive where he ate a bunch and read poetry is still so dear to me. What a precious boy. Not to mention he loves cats!! I love cats!! Like wow I just wanna be his best friend and send him cat pictures!!! We would be such great friends!!! But also he's so comforting to be around while simultaneously being so nerveracking to be around? He has such a calming relaxing aura and I know he's a small shy soft boy but I literally can't breath in his presence. As soon as I lock eyes with him it's over. He's so captivating. So overwhelming captivating. Suddenly I can't breath, I can't think, I just say I love you over and over and he smiles and my mind is blank. Just for reference, I'm never blank, that never happens. He's so overwhelming and powerful and beautiful and comfortable and wow this has been the longest rant about hwiyoung I'm sorry 💀💀💀
5. Are you the kind of friend you would want to have as a friend? If so, why?
I really try to be the friend I'd want to have. That's my main goal. Like... if I wouldn't want to be my friend how can I expect others to want to be around me at all. I don't really have any specific things I do?? But just overall I try to evaluate how I'd want my friends to be in situations and try to act accordingly.
6. When you're in a bad mood do you prefer to be alone or with people?
I prefer to be with people. If I'm upset being alone usually makes it worse. If I'm with people I can feed off of their energy. I'm hyper empathetic so when other people are upset I tend to latch onto that but the same goes for when others are happy. So if I feel upset I tend to surround myself with outside people who will be supportive and happy. Luckily my friends are super supportive and awesome when it comes to that sort of thing so 💕💕💕
7. If you could start over, what would you do differently?
I don't think I'd do anything differently bc everything that I've done has led me to who I am/how I am now. But I suppose if I had to do something differently... I'd try to just... say no a little more. Stop people from taking advantage of me. Realize that saying no doesn't automatically mean hurting someone. Realize hurting someone is sometimes unavoidable or necessary.
8. Favourite thing about your favourite band?
I love how they connect with each other. The friendship and the banter.
9. What's your favourite thing about yourself? Why?
Um... I like that I'm generally pretty positive. I have my down points like everyone but I don't usually stay down for long. I can always find something to look forward to, I can make seemingly impossible things happen if I'm really determined. I like that I can find light even if I really really don't want to.
10. What do you think is at the edge of the universe?
Probably a vast nothingness, but who knows and who cares really.
11. When you don't like yourself, how do you make yourself feel better?
My 3rd grade teacher taught me this really dumb thing that works for me. So basically in 3rd grade when anyone said anything bad about themselves my teacher would open her cabinet and make them stare at themselves in the mirror on the door. They would have to stand there until they could say 3 good things about themselves. It was quite literally reflecting one yourself for however long it took. So when I feel bad I'll just go sit on my bathroom counter and stare into the mirror and wait until I disconnect from myself. Then I can objectively think... hey... she's cute I like her nose. Her eye makeup looks hella today. Oh shit look how cute her curls are. I'd friend the hell out of her she seems nice. It's weird but it works 🤷♀️

What I Read July 2022
Re-reading manga I have that I haven’t read in years, Fruits Basket is still so good. Tragically it was mostly published when I was a kid and often had no money so I never got the last few volumes though happily I was able to get them in those “collectors editions”
So good, these two goofs are so terribly awkward
I actually read this one twice, well, half of this one twice as my first copy halfway through was upside down and partially backwards... needless to say I had to order a different copy. Once I got to read it, it was a good 1st volume, and I can’t wait to read volume 2.
Whelp, finished (or got as many as were available in english) of Matsuri Akino’s other manga, so started this one. It’s her usual episodic affair and honestly I quite liked it.
*screaming*
a very fun (and informative!) book XD
I tried reading this book before, was very angry at it I think, for some reason and thus absorbed none of it, just reading it this time I really enjoyed it (over dramatic bits and all)
these are fun, though Bakugou could be in them less.
I honestly don’t know how I feel about this book, the writing wasn’t quite there, the characterization, especially for Celine was kinda annoying, and the world was not explained well. But I persevered, partly because I owned the second book already, and this book could be labeled “okay”
I hope this series does not emotionally destroy me
This book was much better and given some of the expository bits, I’m guessing other people complained over the unclear world. So much better, still not “wow, omg” but much better.
Goofy and fun (now if only I can find an affordable copy of volume 2 *sigh in otaku*
This was okay, but Melodias (and this series) are on thin ice on the pervert stuff, if it keeps being such a big part of it I’ll probably abandon the series
DNF
