Creative Problem Solving
Anna Krone – National Beverage Director TGIF Friday’s Corporation
 How do you generate ideas?
I identify a problem and look for people who have found ways to solve it. I use that as a foundation to explore. I typically go through research to find people who have solved similar problems. I’m inspired by creative ways of thinking which engage people. I love to figure out how to engage people in new and exciting ways.
 Obstacles:
The biggest obstacle that I have is my desire to  always find something original. My desire to connect people in new ways drives me to search until I find originality. I overcome my obstacles by taking existing ideas and building on them. I aim to connect original things in even more original ways, thinking of the end user throughout the process.
What process do you use to solve problems?
Identify the problem
Find my perfect world solution
Identify the gaps in the solution
Search for creative ways to fill it
Get lots of feedback along the way (from coworkers, end users) etc to find the best solution.
Mother of 9 kids, 4 foster sisters. Full of wisdom and life.
 How do you generate ideas?
I look at situations that I am typically uncomfortable with and start reading about them. I look up and research whatever I can find about the situation. I look at all possibilities for an answers. I am inspired by certain people, especially friends that are amazing and passionate about something. I’m inspired by reading Sojourners which focuses on social justice. I also know that I need to take quiet time with God and reading scripture. I love to read scripture and think about what it’s supposed to mean in today’s context. I’m inspired my by children because they are always in the midst of something interesting and cool. I have a general curiosity for what others are doing.
 Obstacle:
Procrastination is my biggest obstacle. I am more focused on the things right in front of me rather than long term goals or steps to reach a long term goal. There is always something that is distracting from the long term. I overcome procrastination by taking baby steps….although I am not good at doing it.
 Steps:
Identify what really is the problem. Usually not obvious. It’s usually not what’s on the face value.
I like to think about it rather than talking about it so that I can clearly define it in my mind. Once I have it organized in my head, I will talk to others about it. I do this because often times other people just don’t get it. They usually discourage me and I’d rather not hear the discouragement.
Once I’m ready to talk and I think I understand the problem, I move toward contact that can help me think through the problem or solve it. I am selective on who I include so that I am encouraged and not discouraged.
Once I am comfortable that I understand the problem, I look for people around me that can help solve the problem. I’m very selective on who I include so that I get encouragement rather than discouragement.
I then figure out possible solutions and pick the best on to implement.
(Of course these steps are followed only if I don’t procrastinate and do nothing at all).
 Adysen – 5 year old
 How do you generate ideas?
My mind signals the answer to the brain and I start working with myself. I figure out what my brain is trying to tell me and then I right it down. My brain reacts when it wants to say something. After I write a bunch of ideas down, I color them and show the picture. I am inspired by the idea of making something like the picture below. When I have an idea, my brain feels like it wants to explode. A lot like when I go to the doctor and I don’t want a shot. It’s more fun to react with your brain.
How do you overcome obstacle?
I just start drawing. Something always comes out and if I don’t like I try again. Today, I started to draw a moon but it turned out to look more like a popsicle.
How do you solve a problem? (She used the example: I’m super made)
I call my brain and I have a conversation. Should I be mean or should I have self control. (As I do my own yoga chant).
My self control tells me that next time I need to stay calm. The next thing I do is talk to my amygdala and ask it not to be crazy in the future.
I then go back to what I was doing.
Brian – Mobile Platform Director – Omnitrack
 How do you generate ideas?
First I like to think through the system, the process or the product for what I am trying to create ideas for. To generate ideas, I think about systems, processes or products that are similar that I could use in the problem that I am trying to solve. I am inspired by art. At a basic level, looking at art helps me think outside of the box – it brings perspective and reminds me not to get so caught up in the solution. I am inspired by products that solve a problem really well like Mint. It brings a lot into one place, seamlessly.
 How do you overcome obstacles?
I typically engage other people, team members, whomever to gain perspective and ideas.
How do you solve a problem? What is your process?
I’m learning. First, evaluate and rethink what the problem is? I’m starting a new role with a new team. I need to keep this step at the forefront. Often times, I start solving what I think the problem is before I really understand what I’m solving.
Once I know the problem I am solving, I need to understand the current process, existing data around the process.
Once I know the current state, I’ll start to ideate on different solutions. With myself to with others. That can be laying out a better process (step change) vs transformational change.
Then I pull in technical resources (if required) and the business owners to make sure I’m solving for the real problems with our product. This influences the data I need to monitor and measure results.

The dB Drag Racing Association would like to thank all of the competitors, spectators and sponsors that participated in the DD Audio sound completion lanes of Slamology presented by Gauge Magazine.com and Orion Car Audio co sponsored by Sky High Car Audio this past weekend. The competition was as tough as ever! In dB Drag Racing, some really high numbers were put up including a 175.3 dB from James Sakaley in the Extreme Class. In Bass Race, the brackets were OVERFULL in 3 out of 4 of the classes and many did not make Top 8 in the brackets! The Bass Racers have perfected their skills so much that ties are a regular occurrence! Bagger Beatz was offered for the first time at Slamology. Wayne Harris was in the lanes on Saturday giving some pointers to the new guys that came out to try it for the first time. The format was well received and we expect growth in the motorcycle audio format.
The weather was touch and go most of the weekend, but everyone seemed to be in good spirits and understanding of the weather delays. The dBDRA Judging team did a fantastic job officiating and kept the lanes moving at a good pace over the weekend.  Thank you to the judging team: Jeremy Weber, Jereme Creamer, Chet Holmberg, Cody Allard, Jeff LaFond, Erin Renae and Malissa Creamer.
A huge thanks also goes out to Gorman Cassidy for allowing the dB Drag Judges to set up the judging equipment inside Gorman’s trailer on Sunday. With the torrential downpour situation underway, there was no way the competition could have been completed without the generosity of Gorman and his Incriminator Audio team!
Congratulations to the 2018 Slamology Winners:
