queen shaera targaryen, the unlikely | GLBH AU, inspired by this edit. this one very much fits older shaera :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there was not a soul who presumed the quiet firstborn of rhaenyra targaryen would ascend the iron throne, but the dance of dragons had burned away nearly all of house targaryen in a mere two years. with her brothers dead, and her only remaining family her stepsisters and a mere child, shaera velaryon took the name targaryen and was named queen of the seven kingdoms—a sight her half-year queen of a mother would have liked to see. and while she sat the throne in king’s landing, her husband—only in name, some would say—sat the throne in sunspear, officially welcoming dorne into the crown’s purview for the first time. at just twenty years of age, shaera targaryen, the first of her name, had done what her ancestors could not.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but throughout her reign, grief followed her. she had lost nigh her entire family in the war, save only for her stepsisters, baela and rhaena, and her brother, aegon the younger. gone was her dragon, slaughtered by her uncle’s, sunfyre, in a cannibalistic rage. gone was her lover, still chained to his saddle at the bottom of the god’s eye. gone were her brothers and mother and fathers.
similarly to aegon, she wore only black, forever in mourning. however, on the namedays of those she still had left, many claimed she wore velaryon blue and targaryen red, and sometimes a small smile could be seen slipping through her perpetual despair. when she welcomed a daughter back from sunspear a year after the war—one many thought to be a bastard for her pale hair and dark eyes that belonged to a kinslayer—it was only that girl, named visenya for a sister who never got the chance to live, who could truly rouse the queen from the storm hanging over her head. then there was a son, a boy with dark hair and even darker eyes donning the name aemon. though he was surely the son of the prince of dorne, there was little doubt he reminded the queen greatly of her lost love. and when her brother viserys was returned, many claimed to see the first true smile on shaera targaryen’s face—their embrace on the docks of blackwater bay enough to drive many to tears.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
for thirty years, shaera targaryen was queen, wearing not the crown of her mother—for that had been sold in exchange for a betrayal rhaenyra would never recover from—but the crown of both a conqueror and usurper. though her reign was largely peaceful, some say the rubies of aegon’s crown were cursed, reddened by the blood spilled to form the seven kingdoms and break them apart as well.
first, her husband would pass quickly. his death would come in the form of a letter brought by ravens from the south, sent by his firstborn daughter, who inherited dorne and loved rhaena of pentos. shaera was said to have grieved quietly and in private, only thirty years old and already made a widow—some would say for the second time. she would not take another husband despite the urgings of the twins, who only wished to see her happy.
next went her son. aemon was only two-and-ten when he was found dead. some said the greens still had supporters so long after the war, some said there was a wish to push the queen to madness so her brother, aegon, could take over—now a man. some said the boy merely had a weak heart and succumbed to an illness that hid deep within him. but the death of aemon was enough to remind many of the queen before, who at the death of jacaerys velaryon seemed mad with grief and chose only to haunt the halls of dragonstone and the red keep. such was a similar state for shaera, who after her son was burned on a pyre, seemed incapable of ever smiling again.
neither her sisters nor her brothers could bring a semblance of peace to her. even the sight of morning, rhaena’s pink dragon, couldn’t stir a moment of nostalgia in her heart—she and aegon were similarly broken by the dragons of old. for namedays, the birth of baela’s and rhaena’s children, the visits from aliandra martell, shaera simply sat upon the iron throne, a crown of rubies upon her dark and greying hair. she only ever watched. she never partook. the last time she danced was with a man lost to a lake.
it was only when her daughter, visenya, wed aegon in an attempt to stall any potential civil wars before they could build, that some say shaera actually cracked a smile, small and weak as it was. though the realm saw them wed per the seven’s wishes, shaera had them wed per their house’s true religion on dragonstone—with fire and blood. neither were truly happy, for their lives had been nothing but loss, but for a moment, many say visenya and aegon found peace. and some say, while aegon always wore black for his mother, visenya always wore green for her true father.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
from their marriage came three children: daemon, daenerys, and aenys. but grief was great and sorrow ever present for two children born in a civil war, and visenya was left widowed when aegon died of consumption at only six-and-thirty. some say she could not bear to live without him, and her heart broke one night, slaying her in her sleep, leaving her children to baela and alyn, who took the three in without issue.
shaera, hearing news of her daughter’s and brother’s death, called for her remaining family to return to the red keep. many wondered if she would abdicate to viserys for her grief was too great. she named viserys her heir, baela her hand, alyn the master of ships, rhaena the master of laws, and aliandra the master of whispers. when all was said and done, shaera bid her court a farewell, claiming she was far too tired to continue and that she would return to court on the morrow with news for the approaching winter. lord cregan stark, a dear friend of hers, was set to return after years protecting the north.
however, when he returned to see his queen, he was met only by a corpse. in her sleep, at the age of fifty—almost thirty years of ruling—queen shaera targaryen died. some claimed foul play. some said she deserved it for being a woman on the throne. some simply wrote songs about the grief she endured, and the peace she had brought, unlikely as she was. death had swept through house targaryen once more, but shaera ensured it stood strong, for she settled succession and protected her youngest brother’s claim before she passed. lord cregan stark was known to have lauded her for knowing when her time was near but remaining selfless enough to not return to her family, who all undoubtedly waited for her beyond the living veil, until all was settled.
unlikely, unwilling, shadowed always by grief in a black veil that never seemed to leave her hair, shaera targaryen was a good and just queen despite it all. and while her mother ruled only for half a year, she protected rhaenyra’s memory and claim for thirty long and prosperous years. years that many claim to be better than they should have been. years that went free of blood after so much was spilled before.
reunited once more with her family in death, some say baela and rhaena and viserys and aliandra all had similar last words—that they wished to return to their families. some even claimed that shaera’s last words were a breath of relief, at finally being free, and she called to her brothers and mother and fathers and daughter and son and husband.
and to aemond targaryen, who shaera velaryon loved before she was shaera targaryen. who the good queen refused to let him be known as a kinslayer in all of the histories written in thirty years of ruling. he was merely prince aemond to her.
and she was his shaera, reunited once more.

“Shaera was her name. Sweet Shaera. The girl who didn't want for the Iron Throne and everyone thought her odd for it.”
“Sweet and polite, yes, but she didn’t bite like her mother once had.” -Daemon, Chapter I
"Her darling girl. Her first child. Her only daughter. So different was she to the rest. A dragon without wings, but with an affinity for flowers and the sea. The very best of she and Harwin…But Shaera…Shaera was everything and more..." -Rhaenyra, Chapter X
"It was her smile. It was the way that the sea foam accepted her into its embrace without question. It was the laughter that poured from her lips and the crinkling at the corners of her eyes. It was the way that she looked like a true Velaryon—a girl born of the sea. And Aemond couldn’t tear his eyes away. He wasn’t sure he wanted to." -Aemond, Chapter X
"Viserys, through the haze in his mind that begged he return to sleep, smiled at the sight of his lovely granddaughter. His first grandchild. His darling girl, one so much like her mother. One so much like Aemma. Sweet Aemma." -Viserys, Chapter XI

"And the lord loved his lady, more than the sun loved its clouds, and the moon its stars. He loved her for all of their days and then some, reunited once again when their hearts ceased to beat and they were nothing more, bodies burned on pyres, their ashes scattered, returned to the skies like the dragons of yore"
-Green lies black hearts, chapter VIII-

Aemond x wife!reader | teenage daughter | younger son | scaring off suitors | Aegon helps for once
Tumblr media
A brisk wind blew the hair from your face as you hurried up the stone steps of the Keep. You glanced over your shoulder at the young man still wailing, even as he departed from the main gate.
"I am going to kill them both." You seethed to yourself, the guards in front of the oaken doors quickly stepping to the side with low bows, eager to not get in the way of your building wrath.
As you strode down the marbled hallways, you could already hear the shouting.
You daughter, hands on her hips, was practically screaming at her father, her white hair in tangles falling about her slender shoulders. "I cannot believe you!! This is the fifth time! Mother!" She saw you enter the room, tearing her blazing lilac gaze away from Aemond to look tearfully at you. "Another of my suitors frightened near to death! At this rate I will die alone and unmarried!"
"Better that than chained to a man who will make your life miserable." Aemond intoned, Aegon nodded from where he was perched atop the table behind your little family.
"What has happened?" Your son, barely past his tenth birthday, entered the room after you, tugging on your skirts. "Has father scared off another of Shaera's suitors?"
"He almost killed him!" Your daughter pointed an accusing finger at Aemond's chest. "Uncle Aegon lured him into the dragon pit, and they threatened to set him aflame."
"Wicked!" Your son grinned with delight.
"Shut up Aerys." Shaera was crying in earnest now.
You walked to her, your arms open wide and she sunk gratefully into your embrace. You glared at the two Targaryen men over her shoulder as you hugged your distraught daughter. "There had better be a good explanation for this."
Aegon took a deep sip of wine as Aemond sighed heavily, wrapping an arm around Aerys' shoulders as the boy sidled next to his father. Aegon was the one to break the heavy silence. "We did not threaten to burn anyone alive, Shaera."
"There were words said that we overheard, that settled uneasily with both of us." Aemond agreed, nodding to his brother, his lilac eye flitting from the back of his daughter's silver head to your face. "We took the boy to the dragon pit and introduced him to Sunfyre and Dreamfyre, and told him what would happen should he make good on his words."
"I will not ask you to expound upon it here." You shook your head even as Aegon opened his mouth to explain, stroking Shaera's hair gently. "Shae." You took her face in your hands, wiping away the tears. "Go to your father and make peace."
You shot Aemond a meaningful look as your daughter turned toward him. His gaze softened as he watched her approach, even though her arms were folded tight across her chest. "I am sorry I yelled at you, Kepa."
Aemond reached out, prying her arms loose and holding both her hands in his own. Aegon watched with mild interest, still sipping on his wine. Aerys moved to you, reaching for your hand, watching as Aemond placed a kiss to Shaera's knuckles. "You are worthy of a man who will not shrink in fear at the sight of a dragon."
"Was he very frightened? He said you threatened to kill him."
"A lie."
"His trousers were also wet." Shae tried to suppress a giggle. Her eyes, exactly matching the color of her father's own eye, sparkled up at him.
Aemond nodded solemnly. "He soiled himself."
They chuckled together, Aerys beside you positively cackled, even Aegon gave an appreciative snort.
"You are the blood of the dragon." Aemond continued, his face serious once more. "Above all, you are my daughter and will receive only the best in all things, including those who are allowed to court you."
"Not one person has been good enough though." Shae said hopelessly.
"There will be someone who you fall in love with, daughter." You said, smiling and walking up to where she stood, placing a hand around her waist. "Do not be in such a rush to grow up." You placed a kiss on her temple, she did not pull away.
Aegon watched this exchange with a curiously sour expression on his face, seeming to take a sudden disliking to his drink. "A lovely sentiment for those who have a choice in their futures." His voice was flat as he got up from the table, striding to the door. "Let me know if you need further assistance with troublesome youths, brother." He spoke without turning back, exiting the room, leaving just the four of you there.
Aemond's eye lingered on where his brother had disappeared, a frown tugging his curved lips.
"Father, can we practice sword fighting now?" Aerys piped up, straining on his tip toes to get his dad's attention.
"Yes of course, my son." Aemond allowed Aerys to take his hand and enthusiastically pull him in the direction of the training yard.
"Tis time for you to clean up and get ready for your harp lessons." You squeezed Shae's shoulder, earning a watery smile from the girl. "Don't be disheartened, my jewel. I will talk to him tonight."
"Thank you, mom." She gave you a hug, smelling of lilac and candlewax, before departing for her rooms.
You straightened your skirts, running your hands along the green velvet fabric. It was the fifth time Aemond had sent one of Shaera's suitors scurrying from King's Landing, tail between their legs. You would have to speak to him in private later, but for now you decided to watch him train your young son. Aerys' favorite activity, and something Shae had also begun. At her insistence, Aemond had started showing her the basics of sword fighting. Something that made you proud yet simultaneously worried.
The dull thunk of wooden swords striking each other met your ears as you entered the grey courtyard. The sky above threatened rain, but no droplets fell as your husband and son practiced.
"Keep your feet shoulder-width apart." Aemond was instructing, glancing up to grace you with a smile as you leaned against the railing. "I've told you too many times, Aerys. Do not lean forward, keep your balance over your belly button."
"I'm trying." Aerys complained, sounding a bit too whiny for your taste.
"Don't whine." Both you and Aemond spoke at the same time, he gave you a roguish grin as you chuckled. Aerys sighed, thwacking his wooden sword against Aemond's in annoyance.
They trained for about half an hour, quite enough time for Aerys to pick up several more tips from his father on footwork and arm movements.
"You are a quick learner." Aemond tousled the boy's curly hair affectionately causing Aerys to wrinkle his nose, giggling as he tried to push his dad's hand off.
"Now, off to dragon riding training trēsy. I will join you before long." Aemond looked up at you again. "I have a feeling your mother wants to speak with me."
You smiled at Aerys as he waved cheerily to you, walking away with bouncing strides in the direction of the dragon pit where his small dragon, Parthnax, waited. Aemond climbed the stone steps to where you waited, removing his leather gloves and stroking a large hand along your arm before interlocking his fingers with your own. "Yes, my lady?" His mischievous smile grew a little as you pulled him to walk with you back into the Keep.
"What happened today with that young man?" You asked. "He seemed a fine match for Shaera."
Aemond sighed, choosing his words carefully as his thumb stroked your knuckle. "Aegon and I overheard him boasting to his young friends of his imminent marriage to our daughter, Y/N. With the vulgar words he used, the boy is lucky he isn't charcoal right now."
"What did he say?"
"I will not repeat it."
Your steps faltered, you glanced sidelong at Aemond's face, his jaw was set, and his eye was staring coldly ahead. It must have been something truly vile for him to be so upset. You squeezed his hand gently. "You did well, then. But for the sake of our daughter, I must ask you to be less condemning to those suitors who have not spoken ill of her."
"I am the image of lenience."
"Aemond. This is the fifth time you've chased a boy away from her after they've known each other barely a week."
He sighed softly, remaining silent as the two of you walked together through the torchlit hallways. As you rounded a corner, you saw Shaera standing in front of a young man with shoulder-length auburn hair, deep in conversation.
You felt Aemond stiffen beside you, his hand breaking away as it instinctively went to the pommel of his sword.
Shaera noticed the two of you, her face falling slightly as her lilac eyes flicked to her father. "Dad, mom..."
"Shae." You greeted, your brow furrowing. "Did your lessons run short? Who is this?"
"This is Oliver." The young man bowed low as you approached.
"An honor to meet you, I only just arrived at King's Landing and got myself quite turned around. Luckily Shaera rescued me, and we've been discussing the upcoming tourney that I will be jousting in."
You noticed the coat of arms adorning Oliver's breastplate, but it was Aemond who spoke up first. "Mormont, is it?"
"Yes, your highness." Oliver Mormont bowed again, lower this time. "Might I take the liberty of expressing what an honor it is to meet you, as well as your lady wife." His light brown eyes smiled at you before he turned his attention back to Aemond.
Shaera beamed at him.
Aemond noticed her obvious admiration, his smile a little forced as he nodded at Oliver. "It is always a pleasure to host our friends from the North."
"I've invited Oliver to dinner tonight!" Shae said brightly, not seeing how Aemond's eye narrowed slightly as he looked at her. No, her attention was only upon the handsome youth standing tall beside her.
"We would be glad for you to join us!" You spoke before Aemond could, locking your arm with your husband's. "Now, Shae, you have harp lessons to get to."
Shae's cheeks flushed as Oliver kissed the back of her hand, bowing in farewell. "Until tonight, my lady."
"Tonight then." She nodded, looking bereaved as she watched him leave.
You could have propped Aemond up against a wall he was so tense, you gave his arm a reassuring squeeze. Shae looked hesitantly from him to you before hurrying away toward her class.
"I am going to put bars on her door and window." Aemond muttered, watching her go.
"You will do no such thing, Aemond."
"Dinner?"
"Yes, tonight in fact. He seems like a nice young man from a good house as well."
"They all seem like 'nice young men' to begin with."
You turned to face your husband, cradling his angular jaw in your hands. "My dearest love. You are correct in wanting to shelter her from the many horrible men who infest this world." You leaned in, brushing your lips along his mouth, feeling his muscles slowly begin to relax against you. "However, she will have to experience life one way or another. All we can do is our best to guide her."
"I worry for her, Y/N." Aemond kissed you gently, pressing his forehead to yours.
"As do I. But we cannot keep her all to ourselves forever." You traced your fingers across his cheek, your breaths mingling. "She is the blood of the dragon, and we must allow her to spread her wings and fly."

Aegon/Naerys - You shouldn't exist.
Aemon/Naerys - You like tragic love stories.

Alla’s pacing through the bedroom woke you up, she was mumbling to herself and biting her nails. She didn't notice your sleepy and confused face looking at her, you believe that she mentioned fleeing Kings Landing at least three times.
“What is wrong, Alla?” Your sleepy voice made her jump, he wasn’t expecting you to be awake so early.
“I’m sorry for waking you up, m’lady. I just couldn’t sleep.” You couldn’t help but feel sorry for Alla, she reminded you of yourself, so scared of Shaera but you needed to reassure her.
“You did not answer my question, Alla.” You motioned for her to sit on the bed next to you, she seemed to struggle with herself but eventually sat down. “And please call me Shaera.” Alla didn't seem too pleased with this request but simply nodded.
“I am terrified, I know that I have your protection but he’s the Lord of the Westerlands he could make disappear without a trace.” Her words hit you harder than they should’ve, it took you back to that day when you have been ripped away from your home, from your family.
“He might be a Lannister but I am an Oxwell, soon to be wed to a Targaryen Prince. If he is to do anything to you, he shall receive all the wrath of my House for you are a true friend to me, your birth is of little importance.” You hugged her tightly, you wouldn’t let anyone hurt your friend, if you couldn’t protect her, what good the family name you bear now is to you?
“I’m so grateful for you, m’lady.” You looked at her with a pointed look. “Shaera.” Alla corrected herself.
“Do not fret, no one shall touch you without your permission.” You assured her and she smiled brightly at you, before Alla was your servant she worked in the kitchens. Alla remembers many times other servants came back to the kitchens, after being violated by one of your brothers. You didn't know any of it, Alla wasn’t supposed to be seen outside of the kitchens, but once your last servant left she was appointed to you.
Shaera was rude, she often hit Alla. But Alla was grateful for this instead of being violated by one of your brothers. Everything changed though, you most of all. You were sweet, compassionate and grateful, now you were all but declaring war against the Lannisters for Alla. She felt ovpqerwhelmed by your declaration, no one ever cared for her this way, not even her parents who were more concerned with her brothers because they could work and help the family. The two of you got scared once there was a knock at the door, Alla got up from the bed and went to the door.
“Who is this?” It broke your heart the way Alla’s voice faltered due to her fear but you assumed that your voice would be just the same.
“Food for Lady Shaera to break fast, Ser Criston Cole sent it.” You and Alla shared a sign of relief, she opened the door and brought the food to you.
The tray had many fruits, teas and cakes it was so much food. You were glad for Ser Criston to be in your life, he is a good man you concluded.
“Please, Alla come help. I am sure that Ser Criston didn't send this much food just for myself.” She froze, you never offered food to her before. You told her to get rid of food many times, but she isn’t like that anymore a voice convinced Alla.
She came to join you in bed, eating the fruits, and the cakes and drinking the many teas Ser Criston provided. Thoughts about Prince Aemond came back to the front of your mind, you had the walk with him in the gardens today. Being next to the Prince brought a smile to your face.
“What is it, Shaera?” Alla inquired, she wanted to know what suddenly brought a smile to your face.
“I have the walk with Prince Aemond today.” You laughed at Alla’s face, you could tell that she completely forgot about it you couldn’t blame her.
“There’s no time to keep eating, I must start on your hair quickly.” Alla took you to the chair and started working on your hair, she loved working on your hair.
You were still eating cakes whilst Alla was telling you to keep still, you were laughing together and you were teasing her for taking your hair so seriously.
“Are you excited to meet with the Prince?” She asked, you were looking at her through the mirror.
“Exceptionally, he told me that he hopes that I call the Red Keep home soon.” You didn't know who was more excited, you or Alla, she got even more determined to make your hair impeccable.
Once Alla was finished with your hair, she started to help you get dressed. You decided to wear a purple dress, one of your favourites since you’ve seen it for the first time. It had gems on the bodice, it was delicate but powerful at the same time. Alla finished putting on your dress and started admiring her work, you looked absolutely stunning.
“The Prince is gonna love it.” You started giggling, Alla was a bit confused by your antics if your reputation amongst the servants is anything to go by, you are no stranger to the company of men. But maybe they were all wrong about you, she thought.
“Do you believe so?” That was the worst thing about your personality, you thought. Being insecure, you weren’t like Shaera, she would never question her beauty. You are almost the same person be more like her in that aspect, the voice in your head was screaming at you. But how could you know when no one ever told you that you were beautiful before becoming Shaera?
“You must come with me, Alla.” She understood why you were saying this, Lord Lannister. When it came to this subject, Alla would always listen and obey you.
Alla opened the door for you and you started walking, she was behind you trying not to get noticed by any man. People were curtsying you, it was a strange feeling being revered in such a manner. The gardens were absolutely beautiful, you’ve never seen anything like it. The roses were smelling absolutely divine, and the trees were tall and brought a more than welcomed shade. Everything in this garden was beautiful, you started to twirl around the gardens with Alla. The two of you brought attention to yourselves but you couldn’t care less, you were happy and sharing that happiness with your only friend.
You stopped when you felt as if someone was watching, and that person was Aemond. He was watching you, with a face that gave nothing away. All of those thoughts of not being enough, of being ugly, of being inferior came with full force. He calmly walked closer to you, and Alla quickly left your side and went a few steps behind you.
“Lady Shaera, I must say seeing you so carefree makes me be of the opinion that you are happy here?” You’ve always thought that you could read people easily, but not him. His tone of voice, his face, and his body language gave nothing away. Was he being condescending? Was he being cruel? You couldn’t tell, but you wanted to believe in the best of him.
“Yes, the gardens are absolutely incredible.” The smile on your face was beautiful, Aemond thought to himself.
“Shall we?” He motioned for the two of you to walk around the gardens, he positioned himself in a way that you were in his field of vision. He wanted to gauge your reactions, to study you.
“I must say, I was amazed by your invitation Aemond.” He smiled at the fact that you were using his name, not his title.
“Why?” This piqued his interest.
“You must forgive my bluntness but I was led to believe that you did not approve of me.” He stopped walking to look at you, again his face gave nothing away.
“Who would give you that idea?” Maybe someone said something to you, he thought.
“Your actions.” You put it bluntly, and he was taken aback by it. A Lady shouldn’t say such things, you thought to yourself. Well, it was too late now, he motioned for you to continue. “You left as soon as I arrived, you dismissed my attempts at conversations at the feast but only when the detestable Lord Lannister came to ask for a dance that you gave me any sort of attention.” You were smiling, you were teasing him and Aemond could tell.
“My deepest and sincerest apologies, I’ve known that we were to be betrothed since my younger years but when you finally arrived I didn't know how to feel.” Did he sound sincere? You couldn’t tell, you barely knew him but you did want to know him more.
“There’s nothing to forgive, for I was simply jesting.” You laughed, his actions did hurt your feelings but you could understand his reasoning, if you were him you probably wouldn’t want to marry a woman that had a foul reputation.
“You are not what I was expecting, Lady Shaera.” He was being sincere, he was expecting an obnoxious woman that was disgusted by his face. But you were kind, funny and most importantly you were innocent. He knew that rumours could be exaggerated but to be so wrong that it could be describing a totally different person.
“What were you expecting, Prince Aemond?” You knew what he was talking about, and you knew that he knew. You were dreading the conversation, Shaera didn't tell you everything that she did to be completely honest you didn't want to know.
“Someone that would live up to the rumours that I’ve heard all my life.” There it was out in the open, Aemond had to know it was eating him alive.
“I must assure you, the rumours are simply that, rumours.” Aemond could tell that you were being honest, you are so easy to read, he concluded.
“Forgive my forwardness but I’ve heard of your many lovers and your foul actions, were there all lies?” You didn't want to have this conversation, Shaera’s past was hers not yours but were her now so you needed to clear the air.
“My brothers were especially vicious growing up, they were jealous of the fact father considers me his favourite. It started with small lies, and before I knew it I was this shrew they painted me as. I tried to fight them, but words are just like feathers in the wind you can never take them back and many added to them, so I simply stopped fighting.” It was a lie, but there was simply nothing else you could say. Shaera wasn’t going to interfere with the rest of your life.
“I know more than enough about horrid brothers, I am sorry you had to go through that.” Aemond approached you and put his hand on your forearm, his touch was like anything you’ve ever experienced before. Your breath was caught in your throat, his hand was warm.
“Do not apologise, I simply want you to understand that I’m not that person.” He hummed, Aemond understood being misunderstood and being painted as something he isn't.
The two of you started walking again, it was a comfortable silence. Aemond was watching you, he thought that you looked so beautiful. The two of you were underneath a gazebo and stopped you one more time.
“There is one more thing that I must know, again forgive me for my bluntness. You said the rumours were untrue, but I ought to ask are you untouched?” His fingers grazed your cheek, you leaned into his touch. It was inappropriate, but you didn't care. Aemond was being so tender, so loving like no one else was before.
“I am.” You whispered, Aemond could feel the weight being lifted off his shoulders. He was going to defend your honour no matter what, but knowing that you had your virtue still was much easier to defend it. “I apologise, for I do not know those things.” For some reason you were embarrassed to admit that.
Aemond approached you, both of his hands went to your face. Your breathing was uneven, your heart was pounding. His eye was focused on your lips, there was another thing you didn't know about: kissing. But before Aemond could kiss you, Alla ran towards the two of you more going behind you.
“M’lady.” She pointed, Alla was terrified.
There he was, Lord Lannnister he was seething and it seemed as if he was looking for Alla. The Prince turned around unimpressed with Lord Lannister, he was rudely interrupted.
“YOU!” He pointed at Alla, who hid even more behind you. “I demand that your servant pays for what she has done.” You put yourself in front of Alla, who was crying. Aemond was confused, and decided not to intervene. “She must pay for assaulting me!” He screamed, but you weren’t scared of him at all.
“Must I remind you why you were assaulted, Lord Lannister?” For the first time he realized that Aemond was there with you, and he looked terrified. “Should I share with my bethroted the reason why my servant seize hold of the chair and knock you?” That was enough to make Lord Lannister to leave without saying a word, and now Aemond was curious.
You signed in relief once he was out of sight, you turned to Alla. She was crying and you were comforting her. Aemond cleared his throat, you told Alla to wait for you a bit further away. You needed to speak with Aemond.
“What did that man do?” Aemond was trying to not sound too angry, he didn't want to scare you.
“Aemond…” You took a deep breath, you decided to tell him last night but now you weren’t so sure. He came closer to you, he wanted to put you at ease. Aemond got a strand of your hair in his fingers the act brought goosebumps all over your body.
“I want you to trust me, please tell me.” He whispered, and came even closer to you. His body was radiating warmth, you wanted to know how his arms would feel around you. Safe, the voice in your head whispered.
“Lord Lannister said unsavoury words to me when we were dancing, and I stepped on his foot.” The two of you shared a laugh, Aemond did see that, he was impressed with your courage. “That angered him, and he came to my chambers later that evening.” Aemond tensed, you didn't noticed how his breathing got a bit heavier. “He slapped me and Lord Lannister was about to violate me when Alla, my servant hit him with the chair. Aemond, my servant is scared that she’ll die but I made an oath to protect her.” You wouldn’t let anyone hurt Alla for defending you.
“I appreciate her courage and devotion to you, it makes me happy that you are alright.” He put both his hands on your face, his thumb delicately stroked your lips. Your breath got caught in your throat, your heart was beating so rapidly.
This is it you were about to have your first kiss, you had no idea what to do. You were scared, but you felt safe in Aemond’s arms. He was moving ever so slowly, afraid to scared you with his eagerness. You could feel his breathing on your face, his eye was looking for any signs of doubt he found none.
“Aemond.” Alicent called for him, she couldn’t see that you were in front of him. That made you take a couple steps away from him. She arrived, and she seemed surprised to see you.
“Lady Shaera, I haven’t seen you here. I hope you had a good night’s sleep.” You curtsied her and smiled.
“I did, your Grace.” Alicent smiled back at you, and then turned her attention to her son.
“Your grandfather looks for you.” Aemond took his leave, and he left you with Queen Alicent.
“Are you alright? I’ve spoken with Ser Criston.” Her face held nothing but concern for you, she seemed like what a mother would look like.
“Yes, my servant saved me. Thank you for your concern, my Queen.” You were touched by her concern towards you.
Then she surprised you she hugged you tightly, the motherly love was being put in this hug. Your grandmother wasn’t an affectionate person, she was rather abrasive and of course you’ve never met your own mother. Her hug brought tears to your eyes, and you finally hug her back. You had no idea how much you needed this, motherly affection.
“Oh, my child. Are you sure that you are alright?” Alicent wiped the tears of your face, you nodded.
“Having you hug me this way makes sad that I’ve never met my mother.” The Queen felt bad for you, she knows that your mother died in childbirth and that you didn't have a mother figure growing up.
“You have one now.” Alicent whispered and smiled at you, happiness took over your body.
The two of you started walking the gardens together, she was a great person you concluded. Alicent made you feel safe, and loved, she was little by little healing your inner child. You understood now how Haleana was so sweet, not even once Alicent made fun of her daughter’s unusual hobbies, she’s a great mother.
“Would you like to come for a tea with me and Haleana?” Alicent didn't want you to be alone in a time like this, being attacked by Lord Lannister really affected you even if you didn't want to show it.
“I’d love to, my Queen.” You didn't spend much time with the Queen and the Princess, if they were about to become your family, you wanted to get to know them better.
“Please, call me Alicent.” The two of you smile at each other, and Alicent hugs you one more time.
_________________________________________
You were walking with Alicent to have tea with her and her daughter, Alla was walking right behind the two of you. Now you were less nervous about spending time with the Queen, she was so welcoming, so warm, so motherly. You were now thinking about the Princess, and how she named her spider after you. Your name wasn’t common in Kings Landing, how did she ever heard it?
“Lady Shaera, look I am wearing the broach you gave me.” The broach complemented her skin so beautifully, she was so effortlessly beautiful you thought.
“You look incredible, Princess.” She smiled ever more, and started to twirl showing off her dress. Haleana always seemed inretivably happy.
The servants pulled up the chairs for the three of you to sit down, Alla started helping them as well.
“We’re really happy that you are here, Shaera.” The Queen showed you a sad smile, you were supposed to be protected in her home. What would it happen if your father found out that you were attacked?
“I am happy to be here as well, Alicent.” It was surreal being able to call the Queen by her name, and yet here you are.
“I couldn’t help but notice you and Aemond conversing in the gardens, are the two of you getting on well?” The two of you would marry no matter what, but knowing that her son could be happy in a way Alicent never was, made her happy.
“Yes, he invited me to walk around the gardens,” Princess Haleana was now listening to the conversation.
“What did you talk about?” It was an innocent question, but the things that you discussed with Aemond were unbecoming of a Lady, so you decided to share part of the conversation.
“About how I wasn’t what he expected.” Alicent knew what you meant, the rumours which she believed at first but she was so wrong, you were kind and compassionate but also strong, so incredibly strong.
The three of you started talking about other things, Princess Haleana brought the spider you could see that Alicent was uncomfortable but decided to keep silent. Everything was going well, they were lovely people. You were relieved, you couldn’t imagine how awful it would be if they treated you the same way Shaera treated you.
The three of you spent hours talking and laughing, hours flew by and you didn't even noticed. You decided to retire to your chambers, you were getting tired. Alla was walking right next to you, the two of you couldn’t wait to talk about your encounter with the Prince.
“Were you able to kiss him?” Alla saw the Prince getting closer to you and decided to give you privacy.
“No, but we were so close.” The two of you started giggling, that’s when you saw two guards stationed at your door.
“Prince Aemond ordered us to protect you and your servant, my Lady.” One of the guards accompanied Alla to her servant’s chambers, she was supposed to be by herself. You allowed her to go because Aemond brought the guards, they could be trusted.
“Good night, Ser.” You said to the guard that stayed.
“Good night, my Lady.” And with that you finally retired to your chambers.
You only now realized that Alla wasn’t there to help you with your dress, you paid no mind, starting by getting your hair loose you started removing all the pins and accessories that Alla put on your hair. You were thinking about Aemond, about how soft his lips must be. You finally finished with your hair, before you were able to brush your hair you heard noises inside your bedroom. You quickly got up from the chair and a door that you had no idea existed opened.
“Aemond.” You took a sigh of relief, now you only had more questions. “What you are doing here, is late.” You noted, you didn't really care about that but having him and you alone in a room? That made you nervous.
“We were interrupted in the gardens.” He walked closer to you, whilst you remained frozen in place.
“This is inappropriate, you are in my chambers.” Aemond smiled, you looked so nervous.
“Do you want me to leave?” You quickly shook your head, you wanted to be closer to him all the time. “I noticed that your servant was dismissed before she prepared you for slumber, let me help.” Aemond turned you around, slowly he started undoing the lace of your dress.
The tension was thick in the room, neither of you dared to say a word afraid that the moment would be just a dream. Once the lace was fully undone, Aemond put his hands on your shoulders and slowly removed your dress which fell around your feet. Now Aemond was undoing your corset, you couldn’t see his face, and he couldn’t see yours. Making it even more forbidden somehow, once the corset was removed and you were only in your undergarments, Aemond kissed your neck it was so gentle leaving goosebumps in its way.
Aemond turned you around, he needed to see you. His hands were on your face once again, and this time he was quick but gentle. Aemond’s lips were on yours, you were right his lips were soft. It was as if time stood still, the first time you were being kissed and it was a Prince. You gasped and Aemond took the opportunity to kiss you deeply, you let Aemond lead the kiss and he did that with pleasure. Aemond pulled you even closer and you instinctively but your arms around his neck, Suddenly Aemond started to get a bit more rough. He grabbed your legs and wrapped them around his waist, he carried you to your bed.
He laid you carefully in the bed, he started kissing your neck. You had so many emotions running through your mind, but the fire in your loins was the main thing. You’ve never felt this way before, you were panting and Aemond’s smell was intoxicating. When he was about to reveal your breasts, he stopped. You almost whined at the loss of contact, of feeling overpowered by him.
“You are still untouched, I shall not dishonour you.” He looked as if he was a madman. Trying to control his breathing. You simply nodded, you were disappointed but you understood his reasoning. “I shall let you rest, Shaera.” When you thought that he was about to kiss you again, Aemond kissed the top of your head. “I cannot wait for out wedding night.” He whispered and as quick as he came, he left.
Leaving you with those foreign but powerful feelings, sleep would come but not soon enough so you could dream about your Prince.

Okay I know I said after Aelor Velaryon I was done giving Alicent kids to have in this au lmfaoo, but I was thinking about Addam and Alyn and how they would fit into this hightower between the waves au, and I had a thought, and now I'm hyperfixated and want to share: what if!!! She takes after her mother and is fertile as fuck, and has like 1 kid shy of a dozen! I'm talking Otto has like a dozen kids, mostly sons plus Ali and maybe 1 sister. Everyone thought it was the 7 blessing Otto with a fertile wife, and now her daughter is blessed as well for the Velaryons, much to Otto's chagrin. And what if Alicents first pregnancy with Corlys x Rhaenys is triplets!? 3 fraternal boys, Addam, Alyn, Gwayne, then Aegon and Corra, then Aemond, then Aelor, then Alaenys, then Helaena, then Daeron and Shaera. Thoughts?.... 😁😆😅🤭🫣
ALL OF THIS !
We so need to play them in..bless they have so many and I love it more than I should.
Shes so young when they marry and so fertile !

the battle of the burning sea - 130 AC | glbh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“it is said that the bloodiest of days during the dance of dragons was merely a bait for prince regent aemond targaryen, set by prince qoren martell of dorne. two men, a sun and a dragon, set the coast alight with their fires, and some say that even the sea burned that day. and at the end, it is rumored that prince qoren only laughed in the face of prince aemond when the latter learned of the true intention of the battle—of the trap he had walked right into, of the insurance he had just lost. some blamed prince qoren for the destruction and death that would follow. some blamed princess shaera for the madness that took prince aemond’s mind and sent him on a holy mission to raze the riverlands.”
