can you reliably distinguish between bullshit people actually believe and bullshit they made up for the purpose of saying bullshit?
Oh good question, not an easy one to answer.
Belief is already a more complex thing than people give it credit for, and once you add grifters into that mix, it only makes it harder to draw clear lines between what someone believes and what they're just saying as a means to an end.
Alex Jones is a good case study here. I don't think he believes most of the actual, material things he says, but I do think he does genuinely believe in many of the larger, foundational, assertions of his conspiracy mythology.
Did he actually believe that sandy hook was a false flag? Yes and no. I don't think he actually cared either way. Does he believe that the Shadow Government does things like "stage school shootings"? Yes absolutely.
Therefore, he allows himself to simply not question the assertion that Sandy Hook was a false flag. Alex's mind operates on the assumption that all events are conspiracy until proven otherwise. (read: until it becomes personally inconvenient for Alex to continue espousing the conspiracy theory.)
I think looking at dudes like Alex from the perspective of "does he believes this vs does he not believe this" is only the start of the process, because its always more complicated than that. Bullshit is a diverse thing. It's like wine. It comes in many forms and flavors.
What's more useful when looking at grifters is looking at what behaviors are rewarded vs what behaviors are discouraged. Alex is someone who has basically never seen any consequences for his actions, so hes never really had to dial back on his bullshit. It's all in the pot. His real skill is in his ability to just freestyle conspiracy nonsense like he's speaking in tongues. Hes a savant at filling airtime. I don't even think he remembers most of the shit he says, but does he believe in the underlying assumptions of his worldview? Absolutely.

Hello! I really love your meta (especially your addition in the one regarding Victor and empathy), they are really well thought out! I read your edit to the episode 12- episode 4 meta yesterday, and I really would like to hear your thoughts about the ending as a whole. I personally felt that it was a bit off to me with Yuuri not winning gold (and the scoring) but I do understand what they were going for. Viktor's return to skating surprisingly was something I kind of expected to happen, but I would love to hear your interpretation of it! (Also I must say that viktor-yurio scene before yurio's fs being called as Viktor asking yurio to get the gold or whatever is a take I disagree SO much with (it just seems like it isn't something Viktor will do at that particular time...or ever tbh) so I was glad to see that being addressed in the post! I kind of felt that Yurio's monologue and pushing himself to win by a difference of .12 was just his own desperation to keep Yuuri on the ice (or even simpler: to just somehow convey to yuuri that he is capable of more and more and quitting at that point was not the best decision after all)) anyway, sorry for rambling away :') I really thought this is something interesting to discuss with you, have a great day/night!
Thanks for your Ask! I’m sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I hope you’re still interested in my thoughts on the ending!
Generally (and this might be controversial), I think that episode 12 wraps up the story quite nicely and comprehensively, although I think it could have been 5-10 minutes longer. As much as I believe that a good story should require the audience to use their brains, I’m under the impression that episode 12 subjects the answer to too many open questions to the subtext, stirring a feeling of lacking closure as a result. With a few minutes more airtime, this could have been avoided.
To me, Yuuri finishing in second place was more satisfying than Yuuri winning the GPF. Episode 1 raised the expectation that by the end of the series, Yuuri would hold a gold medal in his hands and throughout the series we are led to believe that this is Yuuri’s ultimate goal. However, when we go back to the very beginning of episode 1, we see Yuuri yearning for becoming Viktor’s equal and it’s implied that he also yearns for Viktor as a person (I discussed some of this here). If Yuuri had won gold, he wouldn’t have been motivated to continue and thus would have denied himself the fulfilment of his greatest dream aka skating on the same ice as Viktor and competing against him—a desire he has nurtured since the day he saw Viktor skate for the first time. So, while the ending doesn’t fulfil Yuuri’s want, it satisfies his need with a promise of the future he envisioned. To me as a viewer, this is more rewarding, but it’s absolutely a matter of taste.
When I watched Yuri!!! for the first time, I personally didn’t anticipate Viktor’s comeback as I was too caught up in the story (and the fear he and Yuuri might break up—I made some bad experiences in this regard). While his return to skating was sufficiently foreshadowed through Yuuri’s unreliable narrator, Viktor’s story arc contradicts this notion. By episode 12, he has settled into his life as Yuuri’s coach and partner and is happier than he has been in a long time. Yuuri fulfils his unmet need for love, which is expressed through Viktor’s free programme and his participation in Yuuri’s gala programme. However, like Yuuri, he lost his passion for skating and is incomplete without it as it is a significant part of his personality (just like Yuuri). His need to regain his passion is met when both Yuris smash his world records at the GPF, but I highly doubt Viktor would enjoy his comeback without Yuuri as his love for skating and his love for Yuuri are intertwined. And for Yuuri, it’s the same. To me, that’s the perfect ever after.
Some more thoughts about the conflict between Yuuri and Viktor, Viktor’s reaction to Yuuri’s retirement plans, Yuuri’s intention, and whether they break up or not, I detailed in this old post.
I feel like I should point out that I don’t see Viktuuri as a couple who would conform to the “let’s break up because our paths of life diverge”-trope as I see them as too mature for this and I’m glad the creators didn’t let the story end like this. (This trope is one of my romance pet peeves.)
I agree with what you said about Yurio! In Yuuri, Yurio has the kind of rival who motivates and pushes him, and whom he likes and admires to some extent. In this sense, their relationship resembles the one Chris and Viktor had and it stands in stark contrast to Yurio’s relationship to JJ, who would be Yurio’s only rival if Yuuri quits. For a character like Yurio, I think, that’s reason enough to keep Yuuri in the sport. I even go as far as saying that stopping Yuuri from retiring is Yurio’s agape.
The scoring at the Grand Prix final is pretty wild to me. I read in an interview that the creators consulted a figure skater to ensure realistic scores, but for the GPF, they went completely off the rails for plot reasons. Without knowing the protocols from the competition, this is difficult to explore, but it seems that to ensure a certain outcome the creators ignored several basic rules about how mistakes play into GOE and PCS and which of these are reasonable for the world’s best six athletes. I did a quick and dirty calculation based on the ISU rules from the time Yuri!!! was created and broadcasted. It's the same system the creators used to calculate the base score of the athletes' programme. I came up with a significantly lower score for JJ and a score for Yuuri that is well above the 100 mark (his hand down on the 4F only gives -1 GOE and limits his PCS to 9.5 maximum in each category). In Yurio’s case, I assumed maximum GOE in all elements and maximum PCS and still didn’t get his score of 118, which means his score in the series is technically impossible. (I actually ended up with around 113.) I’m planning a post that explores the scores in YOI in more detail. For now, suffice it to say that the creators could have achieved the same with reasonable scores.
Given the mistakes he made, JJ was blatantly overscored. Especially in a competition like the GPF, judges tend to be exceptionally strict as all skaters are incredibly skilled and their programmes are of similar difficulty. While I understand that the creators intended to give JJ a strong comeback in the free skating, realistically, his performances would have only put him on the podium if other skaters had made more mistakes (unfortunately, the free skating is a black box as quite a number of elements are executed off-screen). Regarding plot choices, I don’t think the story needs two skaters making a strong comeback in the free programme. If JJ had finished the GPF in last place, this would have made the plot of episode 12 more realistic and better balanced and would have been a fine parallelism to Yuuri’s situation one year ago. Personally, this would have gone his ego good and I would have preferred Phichit, Chris, or Otabek in third place. That said, I don’t understand the reasons for this choice, but that’s okay.
I hope I was able to answer your questions. Feel free to ask if you want to know anything else! Anyway, thank you again! This was my first Ask on Tumblr and I was super thrilled when I saw it!

Ted Lasso Season 3 Spoilers
Ya'll this season is so off to me. there are definitely lovely moments but so many storylines contain things that are just so out of character? Look I want Nate to have his redemption arc as much as the next gal, but where is all of this self confidence and kindness coming from? He wants to apologize to Ted in the elevator and then he won't even wave to Henry at the match? I get it Rupert intimidates him, but then why the hell would he invite him to his attempt at the diamond dogs if he knows Rupert wouldn't support that kind of vulnerability? And I get it healing isn't linear and you're gonna have backslide-y moments, but I don't really get what motivated Nate to start becoming a kinder/less self hating person in the first place. He's been nothing but rewarded for shitty behavior at West Ham. He doesn't seem to even be that sorry about what he did to Ted (and lets be real the entire team, that sign meant a hell of a lot to them). I just don't get it. It seems like he'd make that journey through love and encouragement of a supporting environment or to resist against a super toxic one, and Nate is somehow doing neither? Like how is he doing all this work without either a) recognizing Ruperts way of doing things is highly toxic and making a choice to not be like him b) Realizing that his own actions were very harmful and try to make amends c) receiving some other form of support that's helping him learn actual self love. And at least on screen none of those things have happened.
Then there's the whole thing with Jade, Who is this woman? It seems like we know nothing about her besides that she works for Taste of Athens and she doesn't care for Nate and suddenly one comment in defense of her workplace and she's his girlfriend? Suddenly she's swinging back and forth like a pendulum between that same cold aloofness as before and extreme warmth and understanding? I get that Nate has changed and that can be alluring, but I don't think we know enough about her to make that character development meaningful for *her* and not just for him. She is the only character I can think of that just feels like someone else's partner and not her own person. I'm not saying I need a whole Jade backstory, but she just doesn't even seem like a whole character. What is motivating her to go out with Nate all of a sudden? It's that question that makes that huge step forward for Nate feel hollow.
Then there's all these characters who I cannot figure out what their thematic value is. Shandy? She was introduced as this smart (if rough around the edges) friend of Keeley's and she turns out to be just a total psycho. For what purpose? what did Keeley learn? what did Shandy represent? To just not trust people? To not give people chances? Why spend so much time on that character just to tell a story that is just so not like this show. I do kinda get the point of Zava, you can't just win on one guys coattails, you have to learn to be a team, even though I think that story could've been way shorter. Then there's Jack, we're supposed to believe Keeley just doesn't know who gave her the money to start her business and then after finding out begins a relationship with that person? Especially this episode 8 there were so many moments where I was like Keeley for the love of god break up with this woman and then she just doesn't, despite Jack being so so so awful to her. It seems like we're giving Keeley so much more airtime just to tell the audience she's actually very incompetent, unconfident, and oblivious, despite the fact that the show has been telling us she's the exact opposite for two seasons. What is the fucking reason?
Even Ted has just been drifting for forever. I thought episode 6 was a turning point and he really got back into coaching, but now he's skipping practice and dinners with his son in order to stalk Michelle? What? I'd understand that behavior from season 1 or 2 Ted but Jesus we've got four episodes to clean all these storylines up and so far they've done nothing but create questions.
I just remember the first two seasons I felt like we were solving problems along the way, or at least laying the foundations for whatever growth needed to be done and I feel like we're 8 episodes in and the only direction we've moved is backward.
Like I said I still love this show, I loved the Amsterdam episode, I loved finally getting to meet Sam's dad in person, I love all of Jamie's amazing moments this season, I love that Bex is getting her little barbs in at Rupert, I love Beard and Henry's Hey Jude scene, I love Colin and Trent in Amsterdam (actually went to the homomonument yesterday because damn I love that scene so much, and my mom lives nearby) but they are not crafting this show the way they used to, and that makes me sad.

We do not want anyone to make us suffer but often derive pleasure from other people’s misfortune. The German language has a word for it: schadenfreude. Who hasn’t thrilled just a bit when a rival is taken down a peg, or when a self-righteous hypocrite is exposed?

5. Something you see in fics a lot and love
Asami's shoe collection. Girl wears dark boots the entire show yet somehow we all know she's got a closet the size of an aircraft hangar full of shoes of every shape and color. I love this for her.
6. Something you see in art a lot and love
Shirtless Mako and Bolin. It is a crime against humanity that we never had that in the show and the way the fandom has risen to the occasion to properly objectify these hunks is awesome. Thank you for your service.
8. Hope more people will come to appreciate ___
Age gap ships. We're going through a dark time now where kids think a two year difference is predatory and that shipping someone in their late teens with someone in their early 20s is somehow problematic. But I have hope! Mostly because ATLA has so many hot older characters. Hakoda. Piandao. Tonraq. Lin. Daddy Live Action Ozai. The brave MILVES and DILVES of this fandom will one day prove too tempting to be left off the shipping menu. I will bide my time.
25. a piece of advice for taking care of yourself in fandom spaces
Okay, this is a three part piece of advice. Step one: choose your space. You don't need to be in all fandom spaces. If something sucks, leave. Block people. Block tags. Walk away from that rancid take instead of responding. Just don't engage. Step two: choose your people. Making fandom friends has been one of the most rewarding experience of my life. Find people who are into what you're into or who are at least excited that you're into it and create spaces with them. Participate in events. Join a discord. Follow your people into hell and back. Step three: Tell haters to get bent. There will always be some twatwaffle who feels the need to tell you that your favorite thing sucks, or is problematic, or isn't canon or isn't allowed. Tell them to fuck off. Take a screenshot of their blog and draw a big dick on it, then block them on every platform. Delete the ask or comment or whatever it was. Go rant to your friends (see step two) and move on. Don't engage them. Don't argue. Don't give them airtime. They're not worth it. But showing their blog with a dick on it to your friends so you can laugh about it totally is.

thoughts on michael possessing the bodies of both father and son
Thoughts on Michael possessing the bodies of both father and son: Great, wonderful, amazing, etc. etc. I have a lot of affection for Matt Cohen!John (and indeed for the prequel guy--- I'm very vulnerable to young John, for some reason), both times we (and Dean) see him he's dead or almost dead, and I think so much about how Dean knows him and doesn't know him and loves him and feels conflicted about him because he's not actually his dad, he's just a very vulnerable kid, and Dean is so vulnerable to him--- there should be a million time travel fics about them, but I'm afraid it's a niche market with one (1) customer, so.
Anyway, John as angel vessel is one of the things I wish had gotten more airtime, though I don't know how they could have done that without getting too (or more) hammy.* People have talked before about how revealing it is that Michael appears to Dean as John and Lucifer to Sam as Jessica (keeping in mind one is an actual possession vs an illusion). There is the first love angle, for the gross shippers (among whom I am chief) but also there's the sort of desire they each represent: Jess qua Lucifer represents rebellion, superficially, but also a home Sam makes for himself, a home that he chooses, unlike the home he had with Dad and Dean (insofar that he thinks he didn't actually want/choose them).
Michael!John is more interesting because up until 5x13, John explicitly occupies the role of "God" in the narrative, Dean makes that comparison himself-- he's the agent pitting Dean and Sam against each other, Dean has to kill Sam for his affection and approval, out of duty (and doesn't, once), Sam is rebelling against his father whom he loves because he doesn't get enough affection either, etc. etc. and all that maps out pretty neatly, if even a little simplistically. But then we meet John again in s5 and he's not just God, he's also Michael (despite not having a brother!). It's yet another John-Dean "thing" that Sam doesn't have access to -- Dean has direct access to becoming his father that Sam does not. But that John is not only the unknowable absent father but also the faithful right hand-man is also interesting in what it says about God and Michael, and the possibilities for John and Dean. John connects them in an interesting way — to appropriate Trinitarian language: Michael and God seem homoousios, maybe -- not identical, but of one essence. And that's basically Dean's reward, for the small price of fratricide (and potential genocide and mass extinction) --- a sense of unity with his father, a sameness -- which, outside of any specific love/desire Dean holds for his father, ties into the position the father/god occupies as maker/font of being/one who begets, etc. (to use Trinitarian language again)--- see also how the show consistently uses "hole" language to describe Dean's "emptiness"/longing for death/non-existence and also his longing for his father. This is not to say that his longing for John = desire to die, or that one necessarily causes the other --- but there is something interesting there about how the text positions them as the same sort of wound-- survivable but also irreparable and immanent (but-for divine intervention, perhaps).
The other thing is it's Azazel!John redux: the creepy frightening force you're running away from/trying to defeat is literally your dad, but also he's violating your dad in a pretty significant way. But more minutely on a beat-by-beat level: Mary is about to die, John makes a deal, but then instead of Mary getting possessed it's John (again), and he's less explicitly sexually menacing with Dean, except he's very politely asking him to get inside his body-- so, you know. In fact Michael!John brings up Azazel outright: Azazel is part of the plan, that he would possess John and kill Mary and go after Sam and spit in Dean's mouth whatever the hell he has going on with Dean. And there's the angel ornament at the end of the episode watching over baby Dean, which invokes the motif of John over the crib, etc. etc.
TLDR: it's good stuff!
*I've been known to rant and rave about how John as vessel should have come into play in Lebanon--- Dean wishes for Michael out, and John the second best ever vessel comes in, and he offers himself up for Dean and through some weird magic they put Michael into his head and *he* goes into the malak box and into the deep or whatever. not necessarily super compelling, but like, it's better than a glorified bloodless jdm cameo, methinks.

Five seconds to launch
I love the Cow Mangler’s charged shot. It’s not always a good choice, but it sometimes is, and it’s so satisfying. If other rocket launchers had alt-fire options, what would they look like? I think I’ll make a post about that.
Black Box with Alt-Fire (+) Alt-fire: Consume your full clip to fire a shot that restores up to 100 health on hit (+) On hit: Restore up to 20 health (-) -25% clip size
Worth noting: unless otherwise noted, charged shots use Cow Mangler mechanics, slowing you down while they charge, which takes about two seconds.
You won’t be using this shot in the heat of battle, since - like the Mangler’s - it takes two full seconds to prepare. But if you use it from outside of battle, you can restore a significant chunk of health, and because the Black Box’s clip is smaller, you can do it more frequently than the Mangler’s.
The main risk with this weapon is that it’d be too passive, allowing Soldiers to sit back and spam charged shots to regain health easily. However, you’ll be very vulnerable while reloading, making it easy for opponents to punish misuse. We do run the risk of making users very difficult to kill while also keeping them out of the most interesting combat, though, which is something that would be good to iron out via playtests.
Air Strike with Alt-Fire (+) Alt-fire: Consume four rockets to fire a shot with +100% self push force and no self-damage [1-second charge] (+) Gain +1 clip size on kill, up to +4 (+) +65% attack speed while blast jumping (+) -15% self-damage from blast jumps (-) -15% damage (-) -10% blast radius (-) -20% blast radius while blast jumping
Notice that this shot always consumes four rockets, so you get better results if you’ve already increased your clip size. You can fly like an eagle, getting significant airtime to release your barrage(s). But once you land, you’ll probably have an empty clip, putting you in danger while you reload.
A mild concern is that this uber-powerful rocket jump could be used to traverse smaller maps very quickly, a bit like how Sticky Jumper Demomen always end up at the enemy spawn just after the round starts. However, because you’re almost immobile while it’s charging, and you have a hefty reload time, I’m inclined to say it’s probably less effective than just jumping normally.
Conclusions Adding an alt-fire functionality is a great way to give a weapon more depth (although we don’t want to make it too complicated!) In these cases, there are definitely potential problems, but I think the risk-reward dynamic is pretty well-balanced, giving users more interesting choices to make on the battlefield. At the same time, the charged shots have serious drawbacks that enemies can capitalize on, meaning that opponents can also have a good time fighting against these launchers.
Of course, there are several more rocket launchers that don’t have charged shots! What options would you give to the Direct Hit, Liberty Launcher, Beggar’s Bazooka (if that’s even possible), or even Rocket Jumper or stock launcher?

Definition of Affiliate Marketing Affiliate marketing is a type of performance-based marketing where businesses reward individuals, known as affiliates, for driving traffic or customers to their products or services. It is a win-win situation, as the affiliate earns a commission for each successful referral, while the business gains increased sales and visibility. Overview of Affiliate Marketing In affiliate marketing, the affiliate acts as a middleman between the business and the consumers. They promote the product or service through various channels such as websites, blogs, social media, or email marketing. The affiliates use their own unique affiliate links or codes to track referrals and earn a commission when a sale or desired action is made. Key Players in Affiliate Marketing The key players in affiliate marketing include the merchant or advertiser, the affiliate network, and the affiliates themselves. The merchant is the business that offers the product or service and sets up an affiliate program. The affiliate network serves as an intermediary platform connecting merchants with affiliates. Affiliates are independent individuals or entities who promote the merchant's products and earn a commission based on their performance. Definition of Traditional Marketing Traditional marketing refers to traditional advertising methods that have been used for decades. It involves reaching out to a wide audience through various offline channels such as TV, radio, print media, billboards, and direct mail. Traditional marketing focuses on increasing brand awareness and creating demand for products or services. Overview of Traditional Marketing Traditional marketing relies on one-way communication to reach the target audience. Businesses create advertisements that are disseminated through mass media channels in order to influence consumers' purchasing decisions. This approach may involve high costs since advertising space or airtime can be expensive, and reaching a specific target audience may be challenging. Key Components of Traditional Marketing The key components of traditional marketing include print advertising (newspapers, magazines), broadcast media (TV and radio commercials), outdoor advertising (billboards, posters), direct mail campaigns, and telemarketing. These components involve creating compelling messages and visually appealing graphics to attract and persuade consumers. Business Models Affiliate Marketing Business Model In the affiliate marketing business model, businesses only pay for results. This means that affiliates earn a commission only when they successfully drive a sale or a desired action for the merchant. This performance-based model makes affiliate marketing an attractive option for businesses, as they don't have to bear the risk of upfront costs for advertising. Traditional Marketing Business Model The traditional marketing business model relies on upfront costs for creating and placing advertisements. Businesses pay for advertising space or airtime regardless of the results they achieve. This model requires a larger investment upfront without any guarantee of a return on investment (ROI). Cost Structure Affiliate Marketing Cost Structure In affiliate marketing, the cost structure is predominantly based on a percentage of the sales generated by the affiliates. This means that businesses only pay for the actual value they receive from successful referrals. There are minimal upfront costs as affiliates use their own resources to promote the products or services. Traditional Marketing Cost Structure Traditional marketing involves significant upfront costs for creating and placing advertisements. Businesses need to budget for advertising space, production costs, and distribution expenses. Additionally, traditional marketing may require ongoing expenses to maintain visibility in the market. Compensation Model Affiliate Marketing Compensation Model Affiliate marketing operates on a performance-based compensation model. Affiliates earn a commission for each successful referral or sale they generate for the merchant. The commission structure can vary, but it is typically a percentage of the sale value. This incentivizes affiliates to actively promote the products or services and increases their earnings as they drive more conversions. Traditional Marketing Compensation Model The compensation model in traditional marketing is not based on performance. Businesses pay upfront costs for advertising regardless of the outcomes. The compensation is usually a fixed amount for the advertising space or airtime, without any direct correlation to the success of the campaign. Target Audience Affiliate Marketing Target Audience Affiliate marketing allows businesses to reach a wide and diverse audience by leveraging the affiliates' existing platforms and networks. Affiliates often specialize in specific niches, catering to audiences who have a genuine interest in the promoted products or services. The target audience for affiliate marketing can vary depending on the affiliate's niche and the merchant's offerings. Traditional Marketing Target Audience Traditional marketing aims to reach a broad target audience, often through mass media channels. Businesses may use demographic data and market research to identify their target audience, but the reach is typically more generalized compared to affiliate marketing. Traditional marketing often relies on reaching a large number of people in hopes of resonating with a smaller percentage who may be interested in the product or service. Product Promotion Affiliate Marketing Product Promotion Affiliate marketing provides a unique opportunity for businesses to have their products or services promoted by individuals who are genuinely passionate or knowledgeable about them. Affiliates can offer authentic reviews, tutorials, and comparisons, which can greatly influence consumer purchasing decisions. This personal touch and genuine enthusiasm can lead to higher conversion rates and customer satisfaction. Traditional Marketing Product Promotion In traditional marketing, product promotion is typically done through mass media channels, such as TV commercials or print advertisements. This promotion often focuses on creating awareness and delivering key messages to a broad audience. Traditional marketing may not provide the same level of personalization and authenticity as affiliate marketing. Customer Relationship Affiliate Marketing Customer Relationship In affiliate marketing, the customer relationship is primarily between the customer and the merchant. Affiliates act as intermediaries by driving traffic and conversions, but they are not directly involved in post-purchase interactions. The customer relationship remains with the merchant, who is responsible for providing support, handling inquiries, and ensuring customer satisfaction. Traditional Marketing Customer Relationship Traditional marketing does not typically involve direct customer relationships. The customer relationship is primarily between the consumer and the business itself. Businesses may have customer service departments or support systems in place to handle inquiries and concerns, but the marketing efforts focus on creating initial interest and driving customers to make a purchase. Risk Involved Affiliate Marketing Risk involved One of the advantages of affiliate marketing is its low-risk nature for businesses. Since affiliates are compensated based on performance, businesses only pay when desired results are achieved. This eliminates the risk of upfront costs without any guarantee of return on investment. However, businesses still need to ensure the quality and reputation of their affiliates to maintain brand integrity. Traditional Marketing Risk involved Traditional marketing involves a higher level of risk for businesses. Due to the upfront costs associated with advertising, businesses must invest significant resources without any guarantee of success. The success of traditional marketing campaigns relies on factors like market conditions, consumer response, and the effectiveness of the messaging and creative elements. Disadvantages Disadvantages of Affiliate Marketing While affiliate marketing offers many benefits, it also has some disadvantages to consider. One challenge is the lack of control over affiliates' promotional methods. Since affiliates operate independently, businesses cannot dictate how their products or services are promoted. This can potentially lead to inconsistent messaging or unethical practices, which can harm the brand reputation. Additionally, businesses may need to invest time and effort in managing and monitoring affiliates to ensure compliance and maximize results. Disadvantages of Traditional Marketing Traditional marketing has its own set of disadvantages. One major drawback is the high costs associated with advertising in mass media channels. Small businesses with limited budgets may find it challenging to compete with larger companies. Additionally, the reach of traditional marketing can be less targeted compared to affiliate marketing. Generalized messaging may not resonate with specific consumer segments, leading to lower conversion rates. Furthermore, measuring the success and ROI of traditional marketing campaigns can be difficult without advanced tracking methods. In conclusion, affiliate marketing and traditional marketing have distinct differences in their approaches, cost structures, compensation models, target audiences, product promotions, customer relationships, risks involved, and disadvantages. Understanding these differences can help businesses determine the best marketing strategies and approaches suited to their goals, resources, and target markets. Frequently Asked Questions 1.
