LCD Soundsystem Announces The Tri Boro Tour for 2023
The Facebook Post: it’s that time of year. we’re playing in new york again, but it’s a little different this time. It’s the tri boro tour. last year we played 20 shows at brooklyn steel, which, while fun, nearly killed us all (as soon as we were done i immediately got sick for 2 weeks). we also kind of couldn’t remember the first, say, 14 shows because we were just grinding and holding on for…

We have already established that Domino Recording Company serves as a great house for their musicians, since they also let them release their own side projects as we've seen on some posts. Thus, should we be surprised Alexis Taylor, the frontman of Hot Chip, decided to make one of his records under the employ of his group's label? Yes, he has a side gig as a electronica version of Bryan Ferry, which puts Hot Chip towards the Roxy Music comparisons then? The reason I mention Mr. Ferry might be that Mr. Taylor is more emotional on the discs he does on his own, which does remind me of the 70's lounge lizard rocker. However, Alexis Taylor might be closer to what Leonard Cohen might have done, had he decided to tackle the electronic music of the 10's.

Hot Chip Live Preview: 5/14, Radius, Chicago

BY JORDAN MAINZER
Stuck at home with COVID, yet feeling pretty okay, while the weather’s getting nice, there’s nowhere I’d rather be tomorrow night than at a Hot Chip show, so please go for me. They’re a live force, and their two most recent albums, 2015′s Why Make Sense? and 2019′s A Bath Full of Ecstasy, were arguably the most fully formed of the UK synthpop band’s already legendary career. Now, they’re set to release their 8th studio album in August via Domino, the aptly titled Freakout/Release. They’ve so far released only the funky opening track “Down”, cleverly built around a sample of Universal Togetherness Band’s “More Than Enough” and sporting both lyrical (and visual) references to The Shining. Freakout/Release is the first Hot Chip album in which every band member--Owen Clarke, Al Doyle, Joe Goddard, Felix Martin, and Alexis Taylor--was present at the start of the making of the record. Recorded at the band’s newish East London studio in a somewhat improvisatory way, it purportedly emphasizes their full-band sound. Still, “Down” is as calculated as ever: “I'm on the edge of just screaming / Screaming out your name / But then I know that I'm dreaming / Dreaming my life away,” Taylor coos in the chorus as the song crescendos, exemplary of the jubilant moments Hot Chip is known for.
London-based indie pop band Friedberg opens.

Look so it's Tom Davis Tuesday and I know no one cares or reads these posts ok? And I'm really sad because he deserved adoration and admiration and frankly credit for a lot of comedy.
But I'm especially sad because the sketch I would like to share is not available anywhere to share here. It's only available to stream through watching the full episode which you can do on either Peacock or possibly still Hulu.
It's from season five. Last episode actually. May 24th, 1980. Buck Henry is the host of course.
The sketch I'm referring to is Mommy Beer. It's a musical sketch about a beer brand with a nipple attached.
The nice thing about the sketch is it's got Tom Davis, Al Franken, Jim Downey, Buck Henry, Bill Murray, Brian Doyle Murray, and the ever amazing Peter Aykroyd (yes that's right Danny's little brother).
If anyone is reading this and you can go watch it, I highly recommend it. But I warn you non existent reader that there is an Uncle Roy sketch and if you don't know what those are you can guess by the name what it's about I'm sure since I'm warning you.
If anyone is reading this and they can't stream the episode, onesnladay.com has a write up about it and many pictures to boot.

This picture credit to onesnladay.com please visit the site they're pretty nifty. If you read all the way to here I love you and thank you. I don't care about getting popular I just think the unknowns in this photo deserve to be remembered.

LCD Soundsystem Announces “20” Date Brooklyn Steel Residency For 2022
Since I’m trying to list more of a variety on the events calendar of “The Chronicles of Piercing Ken” I felt that discussing the recently announced residency for 2022 at the Brooklyn Steel venue would be a good idea. I did this last year but had to admit that its not the kind of music that I follow at all. I lean mostly to the heavy side of the fence and don’t have the proper exposure from…

I might have put too much emphasis on the commonalities of the musicians on Domino during my discussion on them, yet these things usually happen. A label gets specified with their hires and we have a tendency to find the similar elements, even though they are not there. True, a musical company could be a case, where such things have occur, since they have a platform to follow. Moreover, I already talked about many times about the players and their homes, so there has to be something there. Hot Chip, for instance, could've only found their dwelling on Domino, because they somehow resemble the ethos of the company. I know – what do you mean by that? Check most of their rooster to notice they don't really put their indie in the indie brackets, if you catch my drift.
