Mother Brutally Murders Children Due To Being "Possessed"
In 1956 a mother would murder her children after claiming to be possessed by a “diabolical entity.” Due to local legend, the home of which the murder occured is actually claimed to be haunted, and is featured on a show called “Extranormal” in Mexico. Maybe she was telling the truth all along? Or was it truly a mental illness?
Tumblr media
Claudia Mijangos was born on May 25h, 1956, and raised in Sinaloa, Mexico. Claudia had a pretty good life growing up, being raised by upper class parents, being popular in school, and was even named Beauty Queen of her hometown, Mazatlan. After she graduated, she married a man named Alfredo Costanos Gutierrez and had three children together, Claudia Maria, Ana Belen, and Alfredo Jr. After Claudia’s parents passed away, she and Alfredo inherited a large amount of money and moved to Queretaro City, Queretaro, and enrolled all three children into Catholic school, where she worked as a catechism teacher. Claudia also loved fashion and eventually opened up a little clothing boutique. Claudia’s marriage was good for a while, but in the late 1980’s the couple began having marital issues and started having frequent arguments. She began experiencing signs of emotional instability, and the couple attended marriage counseling but couldn’t manage to work through their issues. They ended up separating in 1989.
Just a few months before the murder occured, Claudia (who was 33 at the time), began experiencing major psychotic episodes. She claimed that she’d see hallucinations of angels and demons and she’d hear voices in her head, along with being possessed by these demons, who left her completely psychologically tormented. On April 23rd, 1989, Alfredo picked up the children from a school function and brought them back home, where a huge argument ensued. Around the time where they agreed to separate, Claudia became obsessed with another man who taught at the school where she worked, Father Ramon. He grilled Claudia about her interest in him, and brought up that he’d like to reconcile the relationship. For some reason this threw her into a rage, and not only did she defend Father Ramon, but she completely rejected Alfredo’s request of working on their marriage again. Alfredo went to leave the home to cool down, and again, for some reason, she was angry with him and screamed, “you’ll be sorry.” After he left, Claudia went upstairs to put her children to bed, and then go to sleep.
Around 4 in the morning, Claudia woke up to loud voices in her head, and would later claim that the voices told her that her hometown, Mazatlan, had disappeared and that “all of Queretaro was a spirit.” Claudia was frantic and worried, so she called up her friend Veronica Vazquez for help. Veronica tried to calm her down and told her she would come over in the morning to check on her. After the call ended, she got out of bed, got dressed, and went into the kitchen to grab three knives, and made her way upstairs to the children's bedrooms. Around 5 AM, she went into Alfredo Jr’s room, 6, and proceeded to stab him to death. She then leaned over him on his bed and began to amputate his arm, completely severing it from his body. His screams woke up the eldest child, Claudia Maria, 11, and she ran into his room and begged her mother to stop hurting her brother. In retaliation, Claudia grabbed a different knife and attacked her with it, stabbing her six times. The child was able to somehow escape from the bedroom after her injuries and began screaming, begging her mom to leave her alone. These screams woke up the neighbors who then called the police. Claudia then picked up the third knife and proceeded to stab her 9 year old daughter, Ana, directly into her heart. After that she made her way back downstairs to look for Claudia Maria, who she found passed out on the dining room floor, and stabbed her again. After she made sure she was dead, she dragged her body back upstairs and put it in the master bedroom.
There’s really not a lot of documented information about what happened during the investigation or the trial, and all I could find out was that Claudia was diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder, and Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, which helped her in not getting a longer sentence. She was sentenced to 30 years in prison, and was released in 2019, and immediately placed in a psychiatric clinic, where she still is today, at 66 years old.

JUDGE VICENTE N. CUSI, JR., Court of First Instance of Davao, Branch I, PROVINCIAL SHERIFF OF DAVAO, and BIÑAN DEVELOPMENT CO., INC., Respondents. MINISTER OF NATURAL RESOURCES and DIRECTOR OF LANDS, intervenors. Marcelino C. Maximo, Enrique S. Empleo and Carlito H. Vailoces for petitioners Levi Damaso for respondent Biñan Dev’t. Co.
Facts:
Following a bid, the Director of Lands awarded the contract to Bian Development Co., Inc. on January 21, 1953. based on the sales application it submitted in 1951
Some people who lived on the lot protested the transaction. The Director of Lands ordered the tenants to leave the lot and remove their modifications in his decision of August 30, 1957, dismissing the protests.
He issued a writ of execution, but the protestants disobeyed it by remaining on the property.
The corporation filed an action publica (ejectment suit) against the claimed tenants on February 27, 1961 in the Court of First Instance of Davao because they refused to leave the property.
Only on August 14, 1975, or more than thirteen years later, was Sales Patent No. 5681 granted to the corporation for that lot.
The corporation submitted a request for execution when the trial court was given a new copy of the record. The defendants opposed the motion. They argued that the Constitution's adoption, which went into force on January 17, 1973, was a supervening reality that made it illegal to carry out the lower court's decision. They referred to the previously mentioned constitutional provision that states "no private business or association may retain alienable lands of the public domain unless by lease not to exceed one thousand hectares in area."
Issues:
The Director found that the protestants (defendants in the 1961 ejectment suit, some of whom are now petitioners herein) entered the land only after it was awarder to the corporation and, therefore, they could not be regarded as bona fide occupants thereof. The
Director characterized them as squatters. He found that some claimants were fictitious persons
We hold that the said constitutional prohibition has no retroactive application to the sales application of Biñan Development Co., Inc. because it had already acquired a vested right to the land applied for at the time the 1973 Constitution took effect.
Ruling:
That established right must be honored. It was untouchable under the new Constitution. Private corporations are permitted to purchase public agricultural properties up to 1,244 hectares under Section 2, Article XIII of the 1935 Constitution. The constitutional law notion of vested rights prohibits the petitioners' prohibition action.
Concepcion, Jr., Guerrero, Abad Santos, Relova and Gutierrez, Jr., JJ., concur. Escolin, J., took no part.
