okay so i want a pacific rim au. buck is a fresh jaeger pilot who is eager to join the corps. except for how he can’t find someone compatible. he doesn’t want just any old drift. cue eddie, a former jaeger pilot with a son who hasn’t stepped foot in one since his wife died a few years prior while they were still in the drift. cue feelings, drifting and realising just how ridiculously compatible they are, and badass shit.

edmundo diaz is a SWEETHEART. he wants to be the best person, father, best friend, whatever. he just wants to be good for someone. 

evan buckley is a smartass but he’s also smart. he likes to learn, devours information like it’s a gift. eddie loves to LISTEN. he sometimes leaves books and movies and random pages open just to see what buck learns. 

eddie and buck both GET therapy and work through their issues.

 Eddie spends a lot of his time being quiet. He watches other people, he pays attention, and when necessary he reads the room.

Maybe it’s paranoia but he thinks it’s necessary to read the room more often than not.

The thing about people – about everyone really – is they say much more with their bodies than they do their words. Even people like Buck who are so open with their emotions; boisterous the second they walk through the door.

When Buck goes quiet…that’s when you really have to pay attention to him.

The last time Buck got quiet Eddie didn’t. He’s still not sure if he missed it or if he was too far up his own ass to take the time out of his day.

But he’s learned from his mistakes. He’s gotten better. That’s what life is about. At least, that’s what he tries to make it about.

 Eddie’s never had a problem with Father’s Day. It’s always been good to see his extended family and help the men of the family grill out in the backyard of whoever was hosting that year.

Since Christopher was born it’s taken on a new light. These last couple years, while difficult, have also felt rewarding on Father’s Day.

Eddie has each card from Christopher safely tucked away in a box in his closet.

All in all – he’s good with Father’s Day. He doesn’t have any reason not to be.

But he knows it’s not the same for everyone. This is the year he learned it’s not the same for Buck.

 Buck’s been quiet most of the day but a little too loud when he wasn’t.

Eddie knows him well enough by now to know that something is wrong.

Still, he doesn’t want to ask Buck in front of everyone. That’s a surefire way to get Buck to brush the question right off. Losing any chance of ever getting an answer is about the last thing Eddie wants.

The thing about Buck is he’s so open and so emotional – but only with the good emotions.

When he’s sad, lonely, or worried – he won’t make the effort to share that with anyone. He feels like he has to pull it all in and deal with it himself.

Still, it’s probably better than how Eddie deals with his shit.

Eddie doesn’t judge Buck for it. If anything he’s a little jealous.

But that doesn’t change the fact that Buck’s hurting and it doesn’t change the fact that Eddie wants to help him with it either.

After the shift is over and activity in the locker room starts to die down Eddie slings his bag over his shoulder and crosses to Buck.

Buck’s lingering at his locker, clearly not wanting to go home yet. His bag is open on the bench behind him and Eddie’s really not sure what Buck is actually doing. His hands are bundled together in front of his stomach, fingers twisting and pinching together. He’s not looking down at them though, gazing into his locker instead.

           “What’s up?” Eddie questions.

           “Hm?” Buck manages, looking over a beat too late.

His hands have stopped moving but they stay half on top of each other in front of him.

           “What’s up?” Eddie repeats stubbornly.

           “Nothin.’”

Eddie reaches for Buck’s hands and pulls them apart, his eyes lighting on the space between Buck’s right middle finger and ring finger. The skin flushed pink with blood, making a thin white scar in the v of flesh stand out.

           “What happened?”

 The scar is clearly old, well healed. It can’t still be hurting Buck as thin and short as it is. But for some reason he clearly can’t stop touching it today.

           “Oh, uh…nothing,” Buck says. He tugs his hand free and shrugs for good measure. “It happened years ago.”

           “That doesn’t answer the question.”

Buck is silent for a long moment.

           “Well,” he huffs finally, “maybe I don’t want to answer the question.”

Buck closes his locker and turns away from Eddie totally, taking the time to zip up his bag.

Eddie watches him do it silently. He debates pushing it further but quickly decides not to. He thinks he has enough pieces to put the puzzle together as it is.

Buck’s father had better hope he and Eddie never cross paths. Still, there’s nothing he can do about it now so Eddie pushes the thought away. 

           “You can still hold a controller, right?”

Buck’s eyes slide to Eddie and away again. He might be smiling.

           “Probably.”

           “Chris got me a new game,” Eddie says. For Father’s Day he does not say.

           “Is that an invitation?” Buck asks, finally picking up his bag and turning toward Eddie again.

           “No,” Eddie replies easily, “it’s a challenge.”

           “Alright,” Buck laughs quietly.

He’s definitely smiling now – Eddie feels lighter already just seeing it.

           “There’s cake and ice cream too,” Eddie adds. “If it hasn’t magically disappeared by the time we get there.”

           “I already said I’d come over.”

           “No harm in having insurance.”

Eddie makes his way toward the door, already knowing Buck will follow.

I finished the new season of queer eye and now I can't stop thinking about the qe guys going to the 118. Buck gets hurt on a call and has to take a week off and so the usual sick leave tradition of watching himself through the whole of netflix commences. Netflix recommends queer eye and he watches the whole thing in like 3 days. On the third day he's watching it at Eddie's and Eddie makes a throwaway comment about how he should nominate their captain. And Buck thinks it's a GREAT idea. 1/

After all that they've gone through the past year, Buck thinks that Bobby deserves a little TLC. But when Eddie finds out that Buck actually did nominate their captain, Eddie sits down with Hen and Chimney between calls at the firehouse. (and this is where it becomes complete au) Eddie explains that they should nominate Buck instead. After the ladder truck, lawsuit, tsunami, pulmonary embolism and everything else, they realise that Buck has gone through a lot, has barely taken time for himself, just kept pushing to come back to the job he loved. But most of all, how the 118 never apologised for how they treated him during the lawsuit and how once he was back it was all brushed off, swept under the rug and life went on as 'normal'.  Flash forward to the queer eye guys coming to the station. Tan doesn't have a lot to do in the fashion front just gives him more tips to out himself out there more. "You need more prints!" Bobby helps him make his loft feel like it's more his home than just some place Buck crashes. Jonathan tells Buck to embrace his natural curly hair and to not deprive the world of gorgeous curls! Antoni helps him learn new ways to cook and recipes different from Bobby's, so Buck has his own style. But Karamo is their saving grace. It's like therapy without going to therapy! Buck gets to talk through everything he's been through and how that has affected him mentally, not just physically. Once Buck gets it all off his chest he finds it easier to tell the 118. AND BUCK GETS HIS APOLOGY. THE END.  I don't even know if you've watched queer eye but buck x happiness is where it's at --- First of all, Ria, BLESS YOU FOR SPAMMING MY INBOX WITH THIS HONESTLY. I absolutely fucking love Queer Eye (still need to watch the latest season) and so this made my heart happy. 

I love every single part of this headcanon, honestly. Karamo would definitely talk sense into Buck and would definitely help the entire team. I just-- you’ve actually like rendered me speechless with how much i love this tbh.
