I'm all for POC solitary but the simple truth is that the other nonblack WOC Disney Princesses are afforded more attention by Disney than Tiana. Aladdin has two sequels and a series. Pocahontas and Mulan both have two movies. The princess and the frog doesn't have a sequel (and it's not like it's a new movie like Moana! It's older thank Frozen, which has two movies and an actual section on disney plus dedicated to all the extra Frozen content. Also, Tangled also has a series despite being older than TPATF)
Tiana simply isn't getting enough attention.
Tiana has been ignored by Disney for ages and it is just so unfair. It’s clear at this point that they made her as a quota to make Black women shut up because they didn’t even put any heart in it. They made her the “Strong Black Woman” and had her overwork herself while giving her a pink-clad and feminine white blonde “princess” best friend. Then they turned her into a frog, made her literally only a human for the beginning and end of the movie. And THEN AND THEN RIGHT AFTER THAT they made a pretty delicate white blonde princess with shimmering golden magical hair in a typical fantasy fake-German setting, like I see what you did there Disney...just a huge slap in the face to Black girls feeling represented by Tiana that only served to remind us that Black women will never be worthy of the fairytale life to Disney’s eyes...they couldn’t even give us a genuine African/African-American fairytale...they forced Tiana’s story to be “realist”, set in the 1920s during segregation where racism was rife and she had to sit in the back of the bus, showing how Black girls can never be fairytale princesses, we can only struggle and suffer oppression.
And then right after that made a genuine light-hearted and magical fairytale with a pretty girly white princess Rapunzel. And then they made Brave. And then they made Frozen. Even the other princesses of color got this, Pocahontas even got a whimsical romance and that is arguably even worse as they made her adultified/sexualized fall in love with a colonizing piece of shit, but back to Tiana...they never truly cared about her or her story or the Black girls with princess dreams that they claimed to represent...I mean for goodness sake her name was originally going to be “Maddy” and she was conceptualized as a chamber maid to a white Southern Belle(who eventually became her best friend in the final product...🫤). And I like Tiana, as well as Charlotte, as well as the movie on a whole, but umm...
It shows that Disney does not care. Or at least didn’t care when they made it. The worst part is that they DID do Black girls right with Cinderella(1997), my all-time favorite movie, but it’s relatively obscure outside of the Black community. Cinderella was excellent. What’s stopping them from doing it again? Hopefully they’ll do right by us with the new The Little Mermaid movie, but I have my doubts already with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Aquafina being a part of it...and according to a friend of mine they didn’t even give Ariel a Black family and her prince also isn’t Black(I don’t think Disney has ever had a Black prince despite having three Black princesses 😭 ik we’re talking about misogynoir here but that’s still...well...not great...). But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Isabella isn't evil, she's not a mean bully, she's not the obstacle Mirabel has to overcome. She's simply a multifaceted character.

I'm going to have a kind take on the Azula turtleduck scene and say that it's very likely Azula simply didn't know she's not supposed to throw *a whole loaf* into the pond, just like Zuko didn't. He was literally showing off the same behaviors he'd seen Azula do to his mom to impress her.
Also it's cute how he's trying to copy her.
That's how I've always thought about it. I mean she was, what, 7 or 8? Maybe 9? In Zuko Alone, so it isn't out of the realm of possibility to assume that she just didn't know that you aren't supposed to do that. Also, glad to see I'm not the only one who thought that Zuko trying to copy what Azula did was cute.

I am subjecting you all to an idea for Icy fang and you cannot stop me
so you know how I said that she likes roses and other flowers and would freeze them because they are like basically like something to calm her down/prevent her from getting in a bad mood? well I started having an idea like thinking of her like this kind of folkloric figure and like maybe she would be like something like in the winter everyone would put frozen flowers(most likely roses) outside the doors and windows of her houses as a ward to protect themselves from her anger or something, and maybe in some cases she would reward people who do it by offering them protection from like things like consequences of harsh winters, (also maybe another reward could be watching over any children in the household until they reach adulthood you know?) and if they didn't she would wipe out the inhabitants of that household from said consequences of harsh winters.

Arguments against "Having no POC is historically accurate":
Asia and Africa are literally connected to Europe. So people can walk to Europe if necessary.
It's a problem on it's own that filmakers/authors/video game makers consistently set their stories in places where it's 'historically accurate' for there to only be white people, especially considering that Europe is only 1/7th of the world. Set it somewhere else for once!
Exaclty! Like do these people think there were no Black people in history? Like even outside of African history? That Africans weren’t travelers or explorers like Europeans were? Oh right, I forgot, we were poverty-stricken in Africa before the European colonizers rounded us up and enslaved us, silly silly me! 😒

This question is for you and anyone who sees this post:
What types of stories would you like to see POC in? For example, would you like something like the babysitters club, or superheroes, or something similar?
I personally would love to see Black people in anything that doesn’t either inherently/mainly have to do with race/racism, isn’t about our Black pain and struggle against oppression, or isn’t about the stereotypical “hood” life envisioned by white people that’s filled with drug dealing, abusive homes, teen pregnancies, parental rape, homelessness, foster care, etc..
I would love to see Black people and especially Black girls/women in more fairytales, princess stories, stories about being spies or pirates, just going to school and living an ordinary fun life, I want more Black chick flicks, Black rom-coms, Black action movies, Black fantasy, Black mermaids, Black ballet dancers, more Black people in areas we don’t typically see them in because white people think it would be “politically correct and not realistic or plausible”. It’s the bare minimum and it’s literally what I ask for.

Azula playing superhero.
Omg this is so cute. I could see her doing this as a kid, and then when someone brings it up as a fond memory years later, she vehemently denies it😂

I know it's easy to think racism is fixed, because we have good representation, but we don't really. The default is white, and we sadly just don't notice. If I picked out a book at random from my library chances are the protagonist will be white or race-less (which generally means white). Oftentimes movies will have ONE POC character. Representation is still a concentrated effort-you don't randomly pick of a book and find a POC protagonist, you go to the rep section. If I played a game, I'd likely not find a POC not white passing character, and especially not a protagonist. It's just so common, it's hard to notice until it's pointed out.
Exactly. White conservatives love to claim that Black people are in everything and yet Black people media is still seen as political and specifically about race/for Black people even if it’s not. While whitebpeople get to just exist. Black people get the bare minimum. I hope that one day we will reach a day when Black characters aren’t seen as Black representation. Just characters in their own right.

I’ve actually talked about this before, but it’s very notable that charity ad videos always have black people as the people who need help. No poor white people or Asian people or poor people of literally any other race. And it’s a big deal to me, since when this was pointed out to me, I realized I’d subconsciously developed this belief that black automatically meant poor/helpless even though it wasn’t true.
Yeah I noticed that too. Although I do notice more people of color that aren’t Black in these ads they are always dark-skinned. It’s really reinforcing the idea not just that Black people are poor and that all of Africa is an impoverished wasteland(when it’s obviously not 😭), but that the darker skinned you are the poorer you are and the less advanced and developed your society is and it reeks.

Someone needs to tell white authors that having arranged marriage and sexism be prominent in stories with POC has very different implications (and is a lot less empowering/feminist) than having it be in stories with white people, especially since the story of the backwards POC third world countries which have arranged marriage and sexism has literally started wars and is used by racists to defend their racism.
Holy shit I never even noticed that but you’re right. It kinda reminds me of people complaining about feminists in first-world countries fighting sexism by saying “focus on women who are actually oppressed like the Middle East/India/Saudi Arabia”. They don’t actually care about women of color. They just want to position the West as more empowered and liberating than other countries while also gaslighting western women(even though not all western women are even white) for “having it all”. These people also tend to be men’s rights activists who are always racist incels.

What do you think Isabella thought of Bruno's prophecy saying she'd be happy and fulfill all her dreams? Do you think she held onto it as a ray of hope or disbelieved in it or was bitter about it?
I think the former, but over time it started to become the latter, which is why she was in despair over it in the song.
