(PSYCHONAUTS 2 SPOILERS IN FIRST IMAGE TEXT ESPECIALLY!!)
oh boy we've hit the point in my Psychonauts art backlog where we get into my OVERLY ELABORATE AUs!! This first one is what I call the "Cally O'Pia AU", which is basically "everything is the same except Cassie stole rescued one very specific weird little boy from a psychic lobotomy, and he grew up raised by her instead. There's a lot more content for this that I'd still like to finish someday, so I'll leave it there for now! There's another AU I've worked on more that you'll be seeing a LOT more of soon, though...
(Alt text/image IDs under the cut!)
[Image 1 ID (PSYCHONAUTS 2 SPOILERS IN DESCRIPTION): A sketchy, colored design for "(Caligosto) Cally O'Pia", an alternate version of Loboto who was raised by Cassie. He is posing with one hand on his hip and the other gesturing outwards; he has both original arms rather than a prosthetic. He has a full head of hair in a sloppy bob with long bangs and a yellow flower tucked behind his ear, wears glasses with green and red lenses instead of the inlaid lenses, and wears several multicolored bracelets and necklaces resembling Cassie's. He is wearing a janitorial staff Psychonauts uniform with the sleeves rolled up, half dark teal-green like an agent uniform and half-lilac purple. Over the uniform, he wears a long handmade-looking light-yellow skirt with pink tassels along the bottom edge, patched with several long patterned scraps of fabric as well as several smaller square patches. He is also wearing blue ribbed socks with light-brown sandals, and two fanny packs on his waist, one purple, one dark blue. There are bullet points about his personality and backstory next to the design, reading: - Picked up by Cassie during a Psychic 7 run on hospitals performing lobotomies (she got a little overzealous seeing a kid on deck and just. took him and ran) - Never met Lucrecia; she'd already left for Grulovia by the time he was adopted - Kept training with the Psychonauts, but became increasingly disillusioned seeing the Psychic 6 fall apart (especially when Cassie retreated to the Gulch) - Extremely powerful psychic, but blows off responsibility to the point he's all but useless as an agent; mostly tends to the aquarium and acts as a handyman - De facto custodian of the Gulch, since he's the only agent who can reliably make it in and out (he's going to check up on his mom) - Openly bisexual; in an on again-off again relationship with Oleander (both would rather it stay on but neither are emotionally mature enough to admit it) - Suspicious about the circumstances behind Maligula's defeat & the "official" Psychonauts founding; took on the moonlighting half from disillusionment, half to secretly investigate without influence (Oleander knew & would occasionally help) - Took the Deluginary job to get info on Maligula, didn't know about the plan with Truman until too late (no hard feelings against the guy himself, y'know?); realized he was in over his head, leaked coordinates to Raz & co. but got threatened into finishing the job regardless - Considered leaving the Psychonauts to be a dentist or marine biologist when he was younger; couldn't bear to abandon Cassie - One of the only agents to still regularly visit Compton in Psychoisolation - Picked up some writing skills from Cassie (he likes freeform poetry) - The socks with sandals are absolutely, specifically to piss off Hollis. Come at him.]
[Image 2 ID: A younger Cally O'Pia. He has messy hair, glasses, a big smile, and is eating a chunk of honeycomb. He is wearing a long tank top resembling Cassie's dress, over pleated pants that reach mid-shin, and sandals.]
[Image 3 ID: Traditional pen sketches of Cally O'Pia. In the left, he is standing with a neutral expression, one hand on his hip and the other holding up a dripping mop; in the other, he is sitting, grinning and using his psychic powers. In the second image he has removed his wrap-skirt to wear it as a shawl around his shoulders instead, revealing the Psychonauts uniform jumpsuit reaches about mid-shin on him.]
[Image 4 ID: A sketchy three-panel comic of Cally and Oleander. In the first, Oleander, wearing boxers and an unbuttoned shirt over a tank top, walks down a hall shouting "Cal??" Cally, standing around the corner wearing sweatpants and a baggy shirt, using telekinesis to bring plates over to him to dry, replies, "Kitchen". Oleander continues, "I can't find my All Paul shirt". The second panel shows Cally shifting his weight onto one leg as he dries the plate with a rag, nonchalantly saying, "Mm. Haven't seen it." Oleander, now looking directly at Cally around the corner, says, "Cal". "Yeah", Cally replies. "You are wearing the shirt", says Oleander. The final panel shows Cally, grinning knowingly and continuing to dry the dish, replying sing-song, "Dunno what you're taaalking abooouuuttt". Oleander, bracing his feet against Cally's lower back and tugging at the hem of the shirt with both hands, screams, "CAL SO HELP ME". Cally simply responds, "I look good though right".]

OC General Thread
So I’m gonna post a bunch of OCs for your consideration. I will sort them by the universe they’re from.
This may get very “do you love the color of the sky” in length so click the Read More if you’re interested. Also most of these are tagged by character name on my blog.
Notes for triggers- "mention" means I don't go into detail and it's text only. If you don't see that word, it means the art or description will go in-depth on the trigger. Stay safe!
TOON-IVERSE SAGA
This is my main universe. Below is the professional description for those unsatisfied with “Kingdom Hearts meets Pibby meets suspiciously wealthy fujoshis and deviantArt users”.
“Welcome to a world where the boundary between reality and fantasy is malleable, and cartoon characters walk alongside real people. From anime to edutainment to stop motion, any character- or “toon” - one can think of lives in this world. Summoned from their cartoons to reality by the mysterious dragon Shenlong, these toons struggle with the ups and downs of daily life. They are considered to be less than animals by real people, with few options in life but rumors of a hidden utopia.
In their quest to reach this utopia- or simply to survive- toons must be careful,. Enemies lurk in the shadows, willing to bring all of toon-kind under their rule. They must watch out for the demons, which can transform toons into loyal thralls in the blink of an eye! The demons share a shaky alliance with the factories- institutions run by real people with the aim of turning toons into slaves. Though these two factions do not represent the general public, they have enough power to threaten the freedom of toons.
But things cannot stay this way forever. In the year 2002, a toon named Soren appears in this world. A friendship is forged, a quest is begun, and the wheels of change are set into motion.”
Soren: My favorite OC ever.
Soren (tummy alt): Chubby tummy.
Soren (weapon, TW: blood, knife, child with a weapon): He has a KNIFE!
Old Version + Reference (TW, blood) https://firedragon1321.tumblr.com/post/701139716258578432/let-me-see-what-you-have-a-knife-no-just
Soren (alternate hairstyles): Because playing with his hair is fun
Soren (squinting): Bright light!
Soren (dress): This is legit key to the plot.
Soren (flashbacks, TW: parental abuse): Babies!
Beck: The story’s deuteragonist
Locky: Autistic computer nerd
Zeus (TW: gaslighting mention): The angy boy
TOON-IVERSE SAGA (GENDERBEND AU)
The same as the above universe, only all the dudes are girls and vise versa.
Sorrel: Soren hates that this exists
TOON-IVERSE SAGA (NON-CANON)
Random AUs and BS with Toon-iverse Saga characters.
Beck (Bunbun, Pibby reference): Bunbun Beck!
ZUNRU
An original monster project similar to Pokemon or Digimon. The protagonist is an autistic character written by an autistic author. Here's a longer description if you want-
“Humans share the world with Zunru. People can thank these magical creatures for the dawn of civilization. Zunru are responsible for building homes, providing food, and offering companionship. People who own Zunru are called 'Tamers'. With a Zu You Co.-approved Zunru Band, they can store a large number of Zunru to travel and fight with.
Jackie is a fourteen year old boy who loves Zunru. Though he has a heart of gold, people find him odd- even those he considers friends. While visiting the town of Seaside Heights, Jackie uncovers a dark secret- Zunru, presumed to be of animal intelligence, are as smart and passionate as humans. They are not companions, but silent slaves.
Jackie aims to create a world where human and Zunru can walk together as equals. But this comes with challenges and costs. He loses the trust of his friends. He discovers that he has autism, a newly discovered condition that sets him apart from other humans. He must confront everything from Zu You Co. itself to his own parents. But with Zunru by his side- rather than under his thumb- Jackie might be able to set things right."
Jackie (hairstyle evolution, TW: scars, burns, readmore discusses or mentions child abuse, albiesm, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, autistic meltdown, psych ward): Over here!
Jackie (original sketch vs 2023 art)- Here!
Jackie (busts, 2020 vs 2023): Thisaway!
Jackie (scar ref, TW: scars, burns): Ouch.
SINGULARITY (formerly Capsule Zaurus)
Originally a reimagining of a prototype version of Digimon, but it got big, so I made it an original work. There is a video by Karn EX that goes into more detail.  Some of the older stuff may use the word "Zaurus" instead of "Datazar" for the monsters, and that's okay.
Human Characters- Tomoya (plus Merazaru full line): Borger
Human Characters: Tomoya and Toshi: Please for the love of God research for your stories!
2024 Main Datazar (Merazaru, Fukazaru, Kerozaru, Raizaru, Tosazaru, Orchizaru, Nyazaru): Right this way!
Anglozaru- He’s a fish
Capsule Zaurus Part 1 (Merazaru, Raizaru, Kerozaru, Tosazaru, Fukazaru): Redraws of concept art right here!
Capsule Zaurus Part 2 (Baby Army): Baby booboo
Capsule Zaurus Part 3 (Megalozaru, Narizaru, Odosuzaru, Tonozaru, Tsukuzaru): Digivolve to Cham- oh wait that’s wrong.
FAN OCs
Characters I made up for existing properties. These are further subdivided.
DIGIMON: FRAGMENTS (DIGIMON)
A fan DigiDestined project I dabble with sometimes. This one has a fanfic, which you can read here. Please read all its tags and the author’s note in Chapter 1 before committing!
Whole Cast of Digimon Fragments + Oliver bust and character sheet + Luca character sheet: DigiDestined on parade!
Oliver bust (TW: panic attack): Poor baby
POKEJIN (POKEMON)
An AU where all the Pokemon are gijinkas, and a deconstruction of Pokephilia weirdo fics. Follows the parallel stories of a wild Pikachu named Tekka and his band of rebels, along with two newbie Trainers who get sucked into the evil Team Embrace. Based mostly on the game universe.
Tekka (art): Pika pika!
Tekka (lore, TW: Pokephilia mention, technically rape mention): I am cringe but I am free.
PROJECT STRIKEBACK (POKEMON)
A “what if Ash was replaced regionally starting in Jotho” character design thing. These are OCs based on the games and Ash’s previous designs.
Rico (Paldea): Mini-rant attached
UNTITLED SHINKALION PROJECT
Something I whipped up a few years ago. An original season of Shinkalion. Unfinished except for notes for now, but I have some art.
Takara (old): Mechanic nerd.
RANDOM OCS
OCs that I drew who don't belong to any project, or just random stuff.
Joran (2023 NaNo Protag): Anxiety yay!
Ryder: He's smol.

[Editor's Note: Credit to Brightgoat and their maker, "Bright's Piccrew Hell" for the art. Image ID in alt text.]
NOTICE: Please read Editor's notes next to section headings, as they contain information about content that may be triggering for some.
Name: Dr. Stone [Editor's Note: No one is quite sure whether this is their first or last name, and no one has asked.]
DOB: December 21st, 1866
Age: 28-35 years old. [Editor's Note: The first recorded instance of this subject in the Neath was at the age of 28. In this latest edition, our Doctor is 35 years old].
KNOWN ALIASES: The Aberrant Doctor, Thirteen.
Pronouns: He/They
Profession: Professional Burglar/Thief, Silverer. Co-Director of the Great Hellbound Railway.
BACKSTORY (PRE-NEATH) [Editor's Note; Discretion is advised- content ahead contains mentions of child abuse and neglect, as well as death, that may be triggering for some.]
Dr. Stone was born in the Neath, to a woman who had fallen with London and who may be familiar to some, a Ms. Rosaline Grey. [Editor's Note: More information is available about Ms. Grey in Inscribed, a memoir linked in the Directory]. He was, however, given to his aunt by a family friend after his mother's untimely passing.
His aunt smuggled him to the surface. At the advice of a few Londoners, she was careful to never allow the baby to see sunlight, traveling only at night and keeping Stone in a lightless environment by day. When they arrived at her home in the Welsh countryside, the aunt settled in with her husband to raise the child.
Stone was always markedly different, however, and the differences in his form and appearance startled her. Deciding that she must keep her child both from public ridicule (and violence) and the sun, which may have killed him, she locked the young boy in the cellar of her home. There Stone would remain for twelve years, with only the company of whatever books his aunt brought him and his immediate family. It was not a warm home, and Stone did not grow up with much interaction or any sort of freedom. The small enclosed space was a like a prison to him, and though the dark didn't bother him, the lack of air and space did. He developed a strong fear of small spaces he would take with him into adulthood.
Stone was raised to fear both other people and the sun, and by the time he was twelve he was an anxious and distant person. They ran away around this time, sneaking out at night while his aunt and uncle slept and fleeing across the Welsh countryside. For the next sixteen years, Stone traveled, never going anywhere during the day and avoiding the sun like the plague. He made his living through crime, always chasing the high of a new and bigger mark, more wealth, more risk. Stone was still not good with people, and seeing the world and the people in it only made him more cold and callous. When he eventually came to learn about the Neath, and London, Stone decided he had to find out more. And when he heard of the opportunity of a lifetime, a diamond the size of a cow, he knew exactly what he had to do.
NOTABLE ASSOCIATES
Detective Peculiar: Co-Director of the GHBR. Dr. Stone's closest friend. Her assistance with the 'greatest accomplishment of their life' is well-documented.
Professor Ellison Arrow: Red Science expert on the GHBR, and Stone's lab partner. Also involved in more... under-the-table work with Stone.
Lady Spring Lovelace: Known to work with Dr. Stone as a partner-in-crime for certain projects. Occasionally advises on the GHBR.
Liz(ard) O'Connor: Known to work with Dr. Stone on some projects as a form of muscle. Also notably seen with Dr. Stone in conjunction with suspected associations of the Calendar Council.
Director Cecil-Violet White: A stage director and performance artist. Family friend. [Editor's Note; Known associate of Rosaline Grey, Stone's mother. See Inscribed for more details.]
Mr. Watson Sterling: Dr. Stone's former husband. Why they split is unknown, but they were married from 1896 to 1899(2). [Editor's Note: 1899(2) is 1900 in the calendar year used on the surface. Speculation places their divorce as a result of differences in lifestyle, though no-one knows for certain.]
Clatter, Rats, and Spark: The three urchins Dr. Stone has taken under his care in his time in London. Fatherhood, it seems, follows them everywhere.
Ms. Kendrick Starlee: Chief Engineer on the GHBR [Editor's Note; This position is technically shared with Furnace, albeit Kendrick's focus is more on the train than the laying of the tracks.] A good friend of Stone's, though they are rarely seen together outside of the operahouse.
Captain Bell: A consultant of Stone's. The pair appear to get along well, and Stone is a frequent passenger on the SS Sunflower.
AMBITION NOTES [Editor's Notes; The following features spoilers for the Light Fingers Ambition and one of its endings. It also features potentially triggering content in the form of discussions of being buried alive, panic attacks, child abuse and neglect, loss of bodily autonomy, pregnancy and pregnancy complications, bodily mutilation and potentially disturbing body modification, addiction, and stalking. Discretion is advised] For an in-depth look, please see the Directory.
Dr. Stone is originally completely focused on the reward. As he settles into the Neath, and gets to know the cast of LF, however, he is slowly dragged into being a better person, and begins to care about the safety of Clara and her sister.
Clara's situation strikes a cord with him, as he lost his own mother in childbirth.
Due to his experiences at the Royal Beth, Dr. Stone develops recurring nightmares about the pregnancy that haunt him for the rest of his life. He especially latched onto the loss of bodily autonomy, and coupled with what he saw in the Orphanage, he developed massive issues around control. While not as affected as Clara and her sister, the experiences still scarred him for life.
His experiences on the Roof and the horror of those he traveled with served to further complicate his relationship with his own body; while the body modification that happened there was abnormal, their own body was not altogether dissimilar from the Starved Men, and it left them with more hangups around their own physical form.
His time with Edward has given him severe ptsd; being buried alive while already claustrophobic was a horrid ordeal for him, and to the present day he is incapable of sleeping in a dark room or remaining in enclosed spaces.
The stalking and obsessive behaviour from Poor Edward put a strain on his ability to feel safe in his own home, and he frequently has panic attacks upon being reminded of those experiences. This is part of what eroded his relationship with his ex-husband.
Dr. Stone picks the ending where the Hybrid is sent to the Roof. This breaks his heart, as he was quite attached to the child, but he knows it was for the best.
Post Ambition he stays in contact with Hepheasta; the two are actually quite good friends. He and Clara only see one another every so often- it is not the closet relationship. He continues to research a way to help her sister return to the surface.
EXTRA INFORMATION
His M.O. for burglaries/heists is to pose as a doctor visiting the homes of wealthy marks to case the joint. No one knows how the hell he hasn't been caught yet.
Despite always being seen with a monocle, Dr. Stone's vision is perfect. The monocle is the disguise for his Cosmogone Spectacles.
Staunch Liberationist. He believes the only world he will ever truly be free in is one in which the Liberation is a complete success. He is at odds with the more moderate members.
Of the Calendar Council, he gets along best with September and May. He and August do NOT get along.
Seriously. August is also on the railway board and they never get anything done, ever.
Send help, the Efficient Comissioner can only take so much.
Personally hired the GHBRB's accountant, which is yet another thing he has done to personally ruin someone's life.
Staunchly opposed to all the Masters, obviously, but has a special rivalry with Fires (Light Fingers, obviously) and Wines/Spices (Most divorced couple in London versus Man who likes to cause problems on purpose).
Dr. Stone has not published because all their research is highly illegal. They post a paper about using the shapeling arts to [REDACTED BY THE MINISTRY OF PUBLIC DECENCY] and they will be thrown into the Zee with weights around their neck.

After her abusive uncle dies, Varsity Cheer Co-Captain Lydia Maxwell wants to blend into the background, but it’s difficult when she has an obvious rivalry with the new girl Elodie Palmer - who’s also her crush. When a mutual friend is attacked, Lydia must set aside her fears to help, or risk losing the only support she has. Picture It Perfect is a story about healing from trauma and girls helping girls, even when it hurts and isn’t easy.
Picture It Perfect was a unique case of the title coming before the story. I‘ve had vague ideas for years, because this story is deeply personal and inspired by true events, but it wasn’t until the title popped into my head while I was at work in March of 2022 that it truly began to take shape.
This was my main project during NaNoWriMo2022, and I ended up writing the entire first draft (minus the opening 2 scenes) alongside my other project. It’s the first YA Contemporary I’ve ever done, and it’s quite near and dear to my heart.
Alt text below:
Alt text: Six images teasing at PICTURE IT PERFECT
Image 1) Picture It Perfect cover. Multiple shades of pastel pink and yellow swoosh over the background. The top corners have stylized sunburst lines reaching out and down. Text is between/beneath them in simple sans serif font, reading: a novel by Dalyn Fairweathre-Baxter. Further beneath is a cartoon camera in shades of glue, grey, and white. Centered beneath that is more text in font Purisa, all capital letters, slightly tilted upward on the right hand side: PICTURE IT PERFECT Below are two cartoon polaroid pictures, barely overlapping at one corner. The left one has a brown-haired white girl from the side holding a coffee cup while wearing a brown sweater and white chunky headphones. Behind her is a park in the city. Due to the stylization of the art, she does not have eyes, though she does have eyebrows, a nose, and a mouth. The right one has a redheaded white girl with her wavy hair pulled over her right shoulder, facing front. She’s wearing a turquoise shrug-on sweater, and is standing in front of a four-paned window with green gauzy curtains pulled aside. The lights outside the window are blurry circles. Due to the stylization of the art, she does not have eyes or a nose, though she does have eyebrows and a mouth. At the bottom is a black decorative line, mostly straight except for the center, which looks like the top curves and center point of a heart shape.
Image 2) A cream background with blobs in the upper left and bottom right corners. the blobs change colors five times, from orange at the edges, to peach, to light pink, to medium pink, to a darker pink at the center. A rounded box overlays the background in the lightest shade of pink. Black text in Font Purisa is inside the box, shaped around a cartoon image of a redheaded white girl from the chest up on the right. She is wearing a red shirt with yellow puff sleeves, and her back arm is behind her head and curled around to pull hair out of her face. Decorative flowers sprout around her. TEXT: Lydia Maxwell. 17 year old Lydia is a Co-Captain for her high school’s varsity cheerleading team. She’s in 7 AP classes, has barely and free time, plays a half-orc rogue, and is generally five seconds away from a panic attack at any given time.
Image 3) The same cream, pink and orange background with pastel pink box. Black text in Font Purisa is inside the box, shaped around a cartoon image of a brown-haired white girl from the waist up at a desk in the bottom right corner. She is wearing a red shirt, and her head is propped up on one hand, the elbow resting on the desk. Her other arm is lying flat across the black desk, her hand dangling off the edge and hidden. TEXT: Elodie Palmer. 17 year old Elodie is a trumpet player in the school band. she’s in 5 AP classes, two different band classes plus Marching Band after school, plays a half-elf cleric, and is DTF (Down to Fight) at the drop of a hat. She’s a new transfer student, but it doesn’t mean people don’t know her already...
Image 4) The same background with black text in Font Purisa in a pastel pink box. TEXT: Pitch: THE HENNA WARS x SPEAK. A dead abusive uncle, a rivalry with her crush, an injury that takes months to heal, an argument with one friend and an attack on another, and a guy who thinks he’s the exception to her sexuality - Lydia’s senior year is not looking good.
Image 5) the same background with black text in Font Purisa in a pastel pink box. TEXT: Fun Things: 1. Cheerleader/Band Kid; 2. Friends to Enemies to Lovers; 3. DnD shenanigans; 4. Awkward Flirting; 5. The Joys of High School TM; 6. Inter-Clique Friendships; 7. What is the band girl in Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me” music video wasn’t in love with the guy but the cheerleader instead? Voila. You get this.
Image 6) Mood Board on a pastel pink background designed to look like a scrapbook page. Photos are attached using pink and white checkered washi tape. Photos left to right, top to bottom: Red DnD dice with gold numbering; a silver trumpet held by white gloved hands on a field; two girls studying together on a bench, only visible from their waists down; a cheerleader inside a high school gymnasium doing a backflip in uniform, one of her teammates doing the same in the blurry background; a to-do list on a sticky note. Items say in cursive 1) cheer practice mon. wed. fri. 2) figure out why Elodie hates you 3) DnD meets on Tuesdays now!!! 4) Work on Costume 5) breathe, breathe, and breathe again; a blue Admit One ticket; two girls getting coffee and sharing wired earphones, visible from their chins down to where they’re blocked by a table; a white girl with red hair looking to the right wearing a casual muted mint green camisole and stylish medium wash denim button up left open, underneath which is written in cursive “You are stronger than you believe”; a slightly elevated over-the-shoulder view of brown wavy hair; black DnD dice with white numbering.

hi im kiwi and welcome to my blog!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i also go by fels/waffles and nathan/nate, but kiwi is generally preferred unless you already know someone named kiwi and need a way to distinguish.
as you’ve probably guessed, i’m aroace!
i use both she/her and he/him pronouns, but honestly use whatever’s funniest. like call me bro if you want. my gender is The Bit. (but i only use gendered terms/honorifics)
i am a multifandom... kinda? i mean i rb stuff relating to my interests
but my main fandom for now is hermitcraft + hermit-adjacent SMPs, and on the side there’s legend of zelda, ace attorney and cookie run ovenbreak
feel free to use my art for icons, banners, edits, dubs etc as long as you credit me.
i’m also a mod for @thelinkconvention (although i can’t check notifs very often) and i’m totally not a mod for @evilxdoodles but you should check it out wink wink nudge nudge
a lot of my art ideas and fics are co-written by my best friend and partner in crime @skyspersonalhell :D
i try my best to write image descriptions for my art (which i put in the alt text) but i’m not always consistent :’] i appreciate any IDs people write for me!
VDHAU masterpost for those who want it!
check out my store on etsy!
please don’t tag my work as ships if i don’t tag/specify it myself 👍 i can’t stop you but i would prefer not to have my works misinterpreted. you can check under the cut for my more detailed stance on shipping!
please do not bring discourse to my page. don’t make me tap the sign.
open up the cut for my tags, page content warnings, boundaries/full shipping stance, and other socials!
my tags!
art- #kiwi’s scribbles random thoughts- #kiwi’s calls writing & headcanons- #orchard’s library asks- #birdhouse inquiries homemade memes- #kiwi’s shitpost central oc content- #kiwi’s ocs (individual stories are tagged with the "original story: __" and "fandom ocs: __" format but you can check out my toyhouse for more actual stuff)
and as a bonus, #kiwisonator for any drawings that i might make of my sona
a masterpost of silly misc tags on my page can also be found here!
IMPORTANT NOTICES FOR MY PAGE!
i might end up drawing possible triggering content! here are some things i draw: - blood, gore, and violence - dark and heavy material - general spooky content sometimes - gay people /j /j /j /j
my page also includes lots of swearing and all caps! if you dont like that then it probably isnt the best choice to follow me.
i filter any triggers with # ___ tw and keep in mind i do also use the #cursed tag for filtering those type of posts if you know what i’m saying just a heads up
BOUNDARIES—
here is my full stance on shipping! please read it if you are wondering about my boundaries! but the tl;dr of that post is that while i am not against shipping, please do not take it to my page if i don’t mention it myself 👍
there are certain ships i am really not comfortable with, so please don't take it personally if i block you for that reason
like i said earlier, please do not tag any of my works as a ship, unless i specify it myself! i mean you CAN i can’t stop you but i’ll probably end up blocking you for my own comfort. nothing personal
as mentioned before, do not bring discourse topics onto my page! any asks or comments about discourse will be not be dignified with a response and promptly deleted!
if the discourse pertains to something i posted, then please do inform me with a reason why i was wrong! however, if you phrase it like a callout or discourse, i will be treating it as such and deleting it!
if you want to learn more about me, here’s my carrd! it includes other socials as well as a (kind of loose) byi.
i don’t have a specific dni, but i do block people who make me uncomfortable. i also don’t interact with people if they’re weird.
IF YOU WANT TO SEE MORE ART
i post most of my works and doodles on instagram-- @ kiwinatorwaffles for my main and @ kiwisnotgay for my doodles/alt. you can check out my original characters in more depth on my toyhouse, which is also @ kiwinatorwaffles!

What can I do for you?
Tumblr media
Here, friends, is my super power:
I can create an entire book — a good one — quickly, with very little help.
You want a book with your name on it. I can make that happen.
Maybe you typed up a draft, and you’re not sure where to go next.
I can take it from here.
And anything smaller than that will be cheaper and faster.
Get on the schedule while you can.
Following are more details about me and my work.
Tumblr media
Follow are links to different things D.X. Ferris makes & does.
I am D.X. Ferris.
I grew up obsessed with music and reading. I went to school for writing. At the time, I thought I couldn’t create things. I didn’t know it yet, but I was wrong. I tried to quit. Writing wouldn’t let me. It kept pulling me back in.
Once I figured out how to do what I wanted to do, I made up for lost time. Now I’ve covered a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction for Rolling Stone. I endured a career-ending injury. I’ve been to the Pentagon on business. I’ve written books with & about some of my iconic heroes. Communication is my business, and business is good.
I do a lot of different things.
I am an award-winning writer, editor, manager, publisher, teacher, speaker, cartoonist, maker, co-author, ghost writer, and overall communications professional. To me, those various & sundry processes are all part of the same sphere — and here’s the common thread: Communication is the art of organizing information. That, friend, is what I do. I can do it for you. And we can make some money together.
I have written/co-written nine books. My personal record is four new books in 16 months.
I cut my teeth as a rock & roll journalist. Then I successfully transitioned to hard news. Lately, I’ve been creating motivational literature and self-help books. I write very effective press releases & promo material. I write & storyboard short videos. I’m writer for a documentary I can’t talk about yet.
I get around. I teach college. My CV includes work for dozens of publications, including Rolling Stone and Alternative Press (America’s two top rock & culture magazines). I’ve also written for leading outlets such as The A.V. Club and Decibel. I write and stage communication seminars.
I have been to the Pentagon and National Air & Space Museum on business. I have been backstage at the Vans Warped Tour on business. My body of work includes book-length oral histories.
I have collaborated with certified Grand Masters, civilians, and high-profile musical & Hollywood creative types. I have had Almost Famous moments on the side of the stage at European festivals. I wake up so early it hurts. I make money for my partners.
I am a 33 1/3 author. An Ohio Society of Professional Journalists Reporter of the Year. And a third-degree black belt (in Taekwondo). Also a 32° two-time WM/PM.
Let’s do some good work — and then let’s do some good with what comes from it.

I am the most prominent, prolific non-marquee contributor the music-writing/music journalism textbook How to Write About Music, from the brain trust running Bloomsbury/Continuum’s 33 1/3 series. TECHNICALLY, I AM ON THE SAME LABEL AS NEIL GAIMAN. This is one of two or three books on this topic. Note to self: Write your own.

Wrote the official book with Donnie Iris and the Cruisers For my money, Donnie Iris & the Cruisers are the best-kept secret from 80s rock radio. That had not one, but seven hot 100 hits. The bandleader/songer penned an enduring disco hit. AND he worked with three Rock Hall of Fame artists. The band have a continuous near-40-year run. During this epic tale, they work with a young Trent Reznor, Kiss, Breathless, Cinderella, Sam Kinison, Gamble & Huff, the Jaggerz, Wolfman Jack, and bunch of others. The book is a painstakingly researched oral history that plays like a mix of the four-hour Tom Petty documentary, the movie That Thing You Do!, and the American Hardcore book. Coffee-table book, 464 pages, 102 images, 308 endnotes, 8.5x11″.
Wrote two books about thrash-metal icons Slayer
One is part of 33 1/3, the vanguard series of music-related writing.
One is an exhaustively researched full-length biography featuring 33 images and over 400 endnotes.
Tumblr media
Publisher of 6623 Press, home to creator-owned, useful, reasonably priced, unconventional books about popular culture, success, and other cool stuff. People like them.
Full-service, full-contact indie publishing. I write, co-write, ghost-write, edit, and publish books. Quickly.

Worked for Rolling Stone, the no. 1 music & culture magazine ever.
I’ve been writing for Alternative Press — America’s no. 2 music magazine — off & on since 2002. More recent pieces are here. Older material is here.
Wrote for alternative newsweekly Cleveland Scene, in various capacities, for 8 years. Won numerous awards for news reporting, business reporting, arts reporting, commentary, feature writing, personality profiling, and sports reporting. I think this piece about Cleveland’s LeBron James banner won me the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists’ Best Reporter award: Literally the entire city was looking at an iconic, massive piece of public art/advertising — and I was the one person who looked behind the scenes. For alt-weekly Cleveland Scene.

For Rolling Stone, I interviewed a band and created unofficial liner notes for a classic album:

This kind of piece is a specialty. For Alternative Press, I interviewed an infamous punk musician about his friendship with the late, great Anthony Bourdain. I supplied many conversation prompts, transcribed it, then edited his answers into one continuous narrative, while I remained invisible in the piece. If it looks like I didn’t do much, then that was the entire point.

I visit a business, describe the experience, and research how a controversial industry works. For Cleveland Scene.

While the rest of the rock-journalism world were writing SOPA stories (Summarizing Other People’s Articles) about a developing story, I dug deep, excavated some court records, and wrote an informed summary. For Metal Sucks — for my money, the best metal news & views site.

A friendly multi-person Q&A and sidebar, stitched together from three different interviews from different media. For Alt Press.

Cover story/feature profile of the president of a local university — and how his work has helped shape the city. It’s pretty whitebread and dry, but I can work in that style when I’m not writing about raging hellions. For Cleveland Magazine, the city’s upstanding guide to what’s happening and who’s doing it.

It collects Years III and IV of the comic, with 172 strips, 8 previously unreleased demo strips, an updated FAQ, and a true-life, all-text real-life metal dad story (so there’s something to really read). 180 pages, oversized 8.5 x 11″ paperback.

I am totally into the Misfits/Danzig/Samhain, and wrote a bunch of stuff about this record-setting continuum of ground-breaking musicians
I wrote things for Metal Sucks
Guest on heavy metal podcasts, and bloggage about it all
Guest on assorted TV and superhero-show podcasts
Guest host on rock podcast Lost Together
Annotated both versions of “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” at Genius
Random bloggage about stuff that isn’t necessarily metal... mostly movies and holiday stuff like a survey of Christmas imagery in True Detective season 1
Tweet too much, but it’s healthier than taking cigarette breaks.
The Pentagrammarian: I take note of writing, grammar, usage, and the business thereof. I am one of very few professional writers who can list the four parts of a well-rounded profile or break down the constituent parts of a sentence, in correct technical grammar terms.

Are You Game, Sau(dara)?
Tumblr media
Couple of weeks ago I watched a play and that made me feel old.
+
Wasn't the play itself, mind you. It was the Five Arts Centre / Centre 42 co-produced “Are You Game, Sau(dara)?”. It was neat. A double-bill riffing off Leow Puay Tin's classic "Three Children".
I liked Fasyali Fadzly’s "Are You Game?" without reservations. I've seen devised pieces come out half-baked, but this wasn't that. It felt like it took the time to --
(a) get over the source text; and then (b) get over getting over the source text
-- growing into a kind of effortlessness? It had the joy and confidence of kids playing a game they knew well.
Darynn Wee's questioning about the meaning of being Bumiputera (she is half-Bidayuh, and isn't; her cast-mates are variously mixed, and are) was sincere, and moving. Hannan Barakbah's life told through toy and gifts (received and given) was fun and heartfelt. Ali Alasri's account of getting caught watching porn on his father's computer -- well, I related to that one a lot.
+
Anyway, back to feeling old.
The audience made me feel old.
At the beginning of the play I was in one of the back rows. About fifteen minutes in a woman behind me turned on her phone light to read the programme notes. It lit up the faces of everybody seated around her.
A guy in front of me was taking photos, and scrolling through texts. The row in front of him were a trio, whispering.
These were young people. College students, I imagine. (Maybe even theatre-school students? Both Puay Tin and Fasyali teach.) So, hey, KIDS, am I right?
But:
After intermission I moved to the front row. A woman, older than me, took out her phone to take a photograph of Ali, mid-monologue. I watched her attach the image to a WhatsApp message, and send it to some group.
+
Back in the mid-2000s, when watching theatre was basically my job, it was verboten to take pictures of a performance.
And I am pretty sure it is still a breach of etiquette to fiddle with your phone when a play is in progress.
So I felt annoyed.
Not to say I've never done stuff like this. I have. Mostly in cinemas. I doubt Robert Downey Jr cares that I quip through his movies. (Monkey see, monkey do, kan?)
I'm way, way less likely to do stuff like this in the theatre, with human bodies onstage, actors breathing the same air as myself.
Undivided attention is the one way to honour their craft; respect their work; tell them I value the gift they are giving me.
+
Then again: maybe things have changed.
Two decades on we are magnitudes more connected to our phones. Our social-media accounts aren't mere projections; the performance of selfhood online is now indistinguishable from selfhood itself.
Wanting to be seen at the theatre is also wanting to be Instagram-ed at the theatre.
Having a Twitter account is necessary for many careers. I imagine theatre companies having to allow for -- encouraging! -- photos by the audience, taken during the play, then posted.
A social-media strategy. Invaluable word of mouth, re-shared.
That's a kind of regard, I guess?
+
Also: a divided attention is just how we experience things now, isn't it?
I'm posting a page from the book I'm reading to Facebook. I have my phone with me when I watch a TV series; I pause the episode to Google its cast. I alt-tab away from the RPG conference-call I'm playing in to find an appropriate reaction GIF.
The multi-threaded, multi-tasked world.
It isn't wrong to want to read biography notes for / talk about the actor you are watching, I guess.
This, too, is a kind of regard. Even if you do it while she performs her monologue.
Maybe.
Definitely inconsiderate to other the people watching? But maybe they are looking at their phones, too.
+
I don't know. This has been on my mind, recently. I worry about being prematurely a curmudgeon, shaking my fist at the modern-day.
I feel old.
+

BLOC PROJETCS HARSH LIGHT- NOTES The concluding webinar of our December installment will welcome artists Verity Birt and Una Hamilton, and researcher Dr Edwin Coomasaru in conversation. Variously working on gender, British identity, folklore and the occult, the speakers will be reflecting on the “E” of ACE—Arts Council England—and that which constitutes “Englishness”. The conversation will self-reflexively think through these English textures and their adoption in sub cultural contexts, including white supremacist narratives of “blood and soil” nativism, as well as feminist and black metal re-inscriptions of a more ecologically entangled landscape.
Question – how the occult has shaped their respective ideas of myth landscape and English identity
Verity Birt - reading ridley walker- inspiration, novel written by russel hoborn, imagining post apocalyptic future in the dark ages, written in phonetic language, returning to an oral history- did a residency in Newcastle with newbridge project, running experimental workshops at prehistoric sites with a community choir – thinking about how features of the landscape impact improvisation – what can happen when you allow for more imaginative and experimental exchange with these sites installation at black tower projects mapped through memory, dream space, tracing the contour lines of the space, exploring the notion of giving/receiving from the landscape - ceramic offerings – recreated the channel in ceramic, vaginal shape references strong feminine energy- workshop not directly documented. – choreographed performances in space in the summer equinox 2019 performance looking at deep time/ fragments of lineages, evolution, how they are continued and transmitted, questioning enlightenment, theory of time as progress – battersea pleasure gardens – live improvised performance to text piece a mash of feminist theory, myth, fiction, archeology uncommon ground – attempt to confront dark side of mythology within the English psyche – white horse stone kent- during research came across white supremacist group that used to guard the site- 2 chanel video – follows icon of the white horse and its relation to alt white narratives and history in mythology – also included fragments of conversions with ethan d white about alt right pagan rituals and beliefs at these sites – anglo saxon mythology Una Hamilton helle - 2009/10 – makes work in landscape, place, nature and how we encode them with our own theories and experiences – the lay archive, ‘after math’ or ‘trauma’ photography- events can linger on in places and can you capture this through camera, looking at political troubles in Ireland. Attempt to explore what could be captured on camera, lay lines connecting places of worship etc, energy lines, ufo sightings, can you capture any of this in images? Short film   the return from Annwn, 2015, inspired by sci-fi and the English landscape. Sacred sites, mound burials, paces of energy, becoming the forest- long term art project interrogating sense of belonging what is heritage, connecting with the landscape - looked to black metal genre that uses landscapes/ Nordic aesthetics – looking at how topography and environments influence people – short stories about black metalists worshipping spruce trees - zine , becoming the forest to explore those ideas more critically, - commissioned essays about the topic from different political, cultural and scientific perspectives commissioned by waltham and epping forest to do installation that looked at epping forest as the peoples forest, and how human narratives have shaped the forest – workshops, performance
Dr Edwin coomasaru Complicated relationship to concept of Englishness 2018 – research driven by questions of ‘why has occult imagery become so importanct for feminist art and activism? What might this renewed interest in the supernatural from across the political spectrum tell us about the current crisis of British identity, shaped by colonial narratives, enlightened Europeans spreading rational modernity while committing oppression murder and theft 18/19 – courtold project on politics of gender and race in brexit visual culture – interested in the way artists responded to issue of irish border in eu negotiations – rita duffy collabed with women of both sides of irish border to create installation that straddled the border – knitted votive figures on the black line bridge – image above from derry 10 exhibition Kerry powell Williams on tarot, held supernatural performance on walker plinth, looked at history of somerset house – building once hq for royal navy and hmrc, all implicated in histories of empire increased interest in supernaturalism a response to corporate wellness culture, welfare state cutbacks and precarious employment – as feminist and anti racist activism surged in 2010, so did far right extremist, brexit articulated and exacerbate crisis of British identity, colonial/rational/modern narratives against those considered supernatural, other or primitive, created conceptual binary between magic and science 1876,eng traveler William h Dixon –‘ if we wish to see order and freedom , science and civilization preserved, we should give first thought to what improves the white mans growth and increase the white man’s strength - gina rippons gendered brain – challenged idea that science was ever neutral or objective, it s all implicated with power and projection feminist and anti racist artists are turning to the occult to reclaim/ challenge the myths that underpin patriarchal white supremacy
How do materials beings and sites become co-opted into story and myth? what stories and myths can artists today extract from the land that will forge a path for post Brexit Britain that is inclusive healing and open and how does this approach include a celebration of Englishness.
VB -Turned to the supernatural and tarot as a way of generating hope in a very hopeless situation- the 2008 recession – allows for mystery, imagination and nuance – using tarot to guide the work, relinquish control – don’t see it as a supernatural things, it’s a way of connecting with natural forces, seeing it in a post modern, materialist light
UH – mysticism as opposition to the narratives the nation tells themselves – also retaining a sense of imagination, not buying into protestant work ethic – productivity is everything – found this is in occult theories – trying to understand what we are actually listening to in occult stories and myths- who’s histories are these? DC- family interested in se Asian forms of spirituality , became interested aspects of activist that used the occult as an insult and those that were interested din magic –  bbc article ‘brexit leads to resurgence in tarot’ intense uncertainty about the future and finding ways to narrate a story to the self – there is nobody NOT engaging in magical thinking – storytelling and the ability of narratives to conceptually present the world to us in different ways Vb storytelling – critical awareness of the falsehood of truths, hierarchy of belief and value we assign to certain myths over other revisiting feminist myth making trajectory – how it has shifted between waves, changing ideas of gender, how gender and myth are intertwined, etc  how myths have sedimented in the body – whiteness embodiment  - how can we excavate that? Romanticism of neo paganism – grey areas between liberal left and alt white spaces
Englishness, an important part of brexit is the tensions between Englishness and brutishness – England drove the vote but Wales also voted leave
VB- looking for line of flight from Englishness- stuck with facing own white Englishness – (not proud of heritage?) coming from rural working class land based peasantry – most family were brexiteers, ideas of people living in different worlds – respective the world view but navigating conversations of black lives matter. Huge disconnect between rural and urban landscape – trying to reconfigure clashes in own identity rural/urban recent work ‘crossings’ about encountering rural landscape after being urbanized
UH– myth of the nation state – disconnect with place? Disenfranchisement – enclosures, uprooting, urbanization, industries disappears – possibilities for community eroded at every corner for a hundred years – what does place/ local place mean? Nobody has that deep rooted relationship with the land anymore?
DC – anxiety about living off the land – spells about butter,- sense of powerlessness and feeling out of control  -the occult has very specific histories and its consciously appropriated
mass displacement in the industrial revolution -
are myths just replaced with others? Everything is myth – there is no objective reality
VB – counter myth making, everything is myth, these are imaginative worlds, capitalism is a shared belief – counter myths – opens up new potentials

How To Choose The Perfect Domain Name For Your Business
The post How To Choose The Perfect Domain Name For Your Business appeared first on HostGator Blog.
Choose A Domain Name for Your Business
Choosing the right domain name for your business is a big decision. Your domain name is more than the words you type into the browser, it’s the foundation for your online identity.
Choose the wrong domain name and you’ll end up doing your business a disservice. But, choose the right domain name and you’ll make your online success that much easier.
But, how exactly do you choose a good domain name for your blog or business?
We’ve got you covered. Below you’ll learn how to choose a domain name for your business, and the most important factors in getting your domain name right
1. Go with “.com”
When it comes to choosing your domain extension you’re going to have a lot of different options available. It can be tempting to go with a TLD that’s innovative and creative. However, if you can it’s always a good idea to go with .com.
The .com TLD is by far the most commonly used and recognized TLD. So, people already have a built-in association with .com being the primary TLD. You can use this to your advantage and build a higher-quality brand by choosing .com
You can also think of it this way. If your website does become very successful and you decided to start with something like .co, then you’d probably need to eventually purchase the .com too
2. Scoop up other domain extensions, too
When you register your .com domain name, pick up top-level domain variations like .biz and .net if you can. Redirect them to your .com site so visitors who type in the wrong domain will still find your site.
For example, sephora.biz, sephora.net and sephora.info all take you straight to Sephora.com.
Tumblr media
As the number of domain registrations continues to increase, good names are becoming more and more competitive.  For this reason, it’s possible to have a competitor snatch up the “.net” or “.biz” version of your URL – even if you’ve secured the “.com” version.
Because this can lead to lost traffic – especially if your competitors wind up outranking you in the search engine results pages – consider buying up popular TLDs (top-level domains) for your chosen domain, if they’re available.
3. Keep it short
When in doubt, make your domain as short as possible. This will help with making your brand more memorable. The fewer characters your domain has the easier it’ll be to type, say, and share with friends.
Now it might be hard to find a single word domain that’s related to your business, especially today. However, consider combining two or three shorter words together to make something memorable.
Plus, since more internet users today use their smartphones to browse the web, you need to make it easy for them to type your domain into their browser
4. Avoid “cutesy” names and abbreviations
Don’t use cute shorteners like 4U and 2U in your domain names because:
They’re hard to remember.
They look unprofessional.
Only Prince could get away with that, and 4 real UR not Prince.
If you think people might have trouble remembering long URLs, know that they’ll have a field day trying to remember your text-speak domain name!  Steer clear and look for alternative domain names that convey your company’s brand messaging without resorting to tricks like these.
Tumblr media
5. Don’t make it awkward
Domain names don’t include spaces, and using hyphens in domain names is a terrible idea, so whatever you choose shouldn’t look awkward written as one word.
To see what we mean, consider the real-life URLs for the following legitimate company names:
Pen Island – “www.penisland.net”
IT Scrap – “www.itscrap.com”
Who Represents – “www.whorepresents.com”
Experts Exchange – “www.expertsexchange.com”
Speed of Art – “www.speedofart.com”
Clearly, carefully reviewing your final selection before hitting the “Register” button is always a good idea!
6. Make it brandable
Brandable means that when you see or hear your domain it sounds like a brand. By looking at your domain name your visitors should be able to intuit what your website is going to be about. Now, this doesn’t mean you need to spell out exactly what your business does with a list of keywords but instead try to capture the essence of what you do.
When a customer sees a name like billreducer.com, they have one expectation in mind: this website is going to help me save money by reducing my bills in some way.
Choose a name that is going to let customers know what they are in for from the moment they read it. Your site should deliver what it says on the label, and your domain name is the label.
For example, if you sell pet supplies in Tulsa, www.tulsapetsupplies.com makes that clear to visitors in a way that, say, www.treatsandtoys.com does not.
Don’t make it confusing for your visitors to figure out what your business does. Say it all with a great domain name.
7. Choose a domain that’s easy to remember
Customers will find your website URL on flyers, newsletters, search queries, and other websites so making the address stick is key.
Memorable domain names are often short, clever, and avoid trendy humor, hyphens or numbers. The longer or more complicated the domain name, the less likely it is to stick. A good rule of thumb is if you saw the domain name on a delivery-truck sign, could you remember it later?
Think obvious, catchy, unique, and memorable.
Do a quick analysis of your favorite domain names and see what makes them stand out, and incorporate those elements you like into your own business domain name.
8. Stay clear of copyright issues
If you’re pretty much settled on a domain name, then you need to spend some time looking into the past of your domain.
Ask yourself the following questions:
Have there been any associated domain names that have a negative public opinion?
Does your domain name contain any words that have a double meaning?
Are there any existing trademark issues with the words used in your domain?
The last thing you want is to find and register the perfect domain name, only to realize that your domain is creating brand confusion, or that you’re accidentally stepping on someone’s trademark.
Double-check social media, too. You want to make sure any relevant social media handles are still available. This will help you build brand consistency and make it that much easier for your visitors to find your business on social media.
9. Unlock the power of keywords
Internet search is based on a framework of keywords and phrases when indexing addresses and sites, so why not take advantage of this when choosing your domain name?
Brainstorm keywords related to your organization and use these in shaping your chosen name. For example, your butcher’s shop might name meat, butcher, smoked, cured, savory, friendly, and service as descriptive keywords for your business. An appropriate name might then be SavoryService.com or TheSmilingButcher.com. Either domain respects the fact that search engines work off of such keywords when indexing and fetching information for users, while providing a description of what customers can expect in the process.
What keywords do people use to search for businesses like yours? Use them in your domain name if you can.
10. Protect your privacy
When you register your domain, the rules of the internet require that you give your
real name
home or business address
email address
phone number
Anyone online can find that information through the global WHOIS database. When you can register a domain, your information becomes public knowledge and anyone can do a domain lookup to see who owns the domain. Don’t want randos looking up your contact info? Sign up for HostGator’s WHOIS privacy service when you register. We’ll replace your private information with ours.

AO3 Podfic Posting Guide
Hooray! You've made a podfic! Maybe you followed Paraka's guide, thedragongirl's guide, one of many other wonderful How To Podfic tutorials, or maybe you figured it out on your own.  But now, how do you share it?  Posting your audio to tumblr, youtube, or a fandom-specific community are all decent options.  But chances are, if the fic you recorded is from AO3, you'll reach the largest and most receptive audience by also posting to AO3.
The archive welcomes all types of fanwork, but is really structured and built primarily for written works.  Posting podfic can be confusing or complicated if you're unfamiliar with it.  This guide will cover both the basic mechanics of posting podfic to AO3, as well as the typical conventions used by the podfic community so that people who want to listen can easily find your audio.
(Under a cut because it’s full of screenshots. Also posted on AO3 if tumblr is giving you any issues with the images)
Note:  I'm writing this assuming you have a general familiarity with AO3 and know what the basic tags mean, but maybe have never posted there before. Don't let the long size of the guide scare you! It isn't difficult. I just made it very detailed because I was super nervous about getting something wrong when posting my first podfic, and I hope this will make others less uncertain.
It's very easy to navigate to the new post screen. While logged in click "Post" and then "New Work".
Tumblr media
First section:  Tags
Tumblr media
The nice thing about podfic is that you're usually working off an existing text.  If that text is on AO3, then the writer has done this step before, and you can just use the same inputs for Rating, Archive Warnings, Fandoms, Category, Relationships, and Characters.  Most of the time I will just use the exact same inputs that the text used, but sometimes I'll disagree with the author and make a change.  For example, rating can be difficult to judge and recently I made a podfic Teen when the author marked it General Audiences.
Additional Tags is the place where you really want to add things that are specific to podfic.
Definitely use the "Podfic" tag. That's going to be the easiest way for someone seeking out audio fanworks to find your post.
Other common additional tags:
- "Podfic Length: X" Select the tag that matches the length of your podfic
Tumblr media
- "Audio Format: X" Select the tags that match the formats you're going to include.
Tumblr media
These types of tags useful because if people are looking for a certain length or a specific way to listen it helps your podfic be more easily found
Other less common additional tags:
- "Podfic Cover Art"  This tag indicates that your work comes with cover art. I don't see it used very frequently though.
- "Podfic Cover Art Welcome"  This tag indicates that your work doesn't have cover art, and that if someone wanted to make you some, you would welcome it. I don't see this tag used very frequently either. (But I think it's a fabulous idea and have it on like 6 of my podfics and I live in HOPE that someone will make me cover art one day, and everyone should definitely use it)
Tags not to use:
- "Podfic Available"  This tag is used on text works to indicate that there is a podfic version of that text. It doesn't belong on the podfic itself.
And then you can add any other additional tags that apply to the story. Again, I typically use the same tags as the writer. Maybe choosing to add more if they were sparse with their tagging, or maybe choosing to leave some off if the tags seem unnecessary.
Next section:  Preface
Tumblr media
Work Title
Most podficcers will indicate in the title in some way that this work is a podfic. It helps users to know at a glance that your work is audio when browsing through AO3.
I personally prefer the style:  [Podfic] Title
But I've also seen:
Title [Podfic]
Title by Author [Podfic]
[Podfic] "Title" by Author
(PODFIC) Title
[Podfic of] Title / written by Author
And many other variations involving the title, the word podfic, various brackets or parentheses, quote marks, or the writer's name.
Personally, I like to use [Podfic] Title because it's straightforward.  When you start adding in the writer's name, I think it starts to look cluttered and more difficult to read.  But other podficcers prefer including the author name as a way to credit to the writer in a very obvious way.  Feel free to decide for yourself!
Add co-authors?
Some podficcers choose to give credit to the writer by making them a co-author on the podfic. I personally do not, and would recommend against it, but again this a place where you can decide for yourself.
Pros:  Gives credit to the writer in the header of your post.  If the writer is well known, it can help drive more traffic to your podfic.
Cons:  Can be confusing and make it seem like the writer was directly involved in making the podfic. Adds more clutter to the header. The writer then has co-control over the work and can edit, delete, etc. (The last con is why I recommend against doing this!)
Summary
Similarly to the tags, another place where you can copy and paste from the text version. Nice!
I also like to add [Podfic Version] to the end of the summary. I've seen similar additions, such as Podfic of "Title".  Many podficcers don't put anything extra in the summary. Again, you can decide what you like best.  For eye-catching purposes, it's more important to have the word podfic in the title than in the summary, so it's totally reasonable not to add anything here if you don't want to.
Notes
Nothing podfic specific here! Check the box if you want to put in some notes.
Next section:  Associations
Tumblr media
The two parts of this section relevant to podfic are "Gift this work to" and "This work is a remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work"
Gift this work to
Similarly to making the writer a co-author, some podficcers will gift the work to the writer as a way of acknowledging them.  When you gift a work to someone, their username appears in the header.
Personally, I have seen this practice less frequently lately and don't do it myself. I didn't make the podfic for the writer! I made it because I loved the story and wanted to record it, and wanted to listen to it, and because I hoped others would want to experience it in audio form as well.  If the writer is one of the people who wants to listen, that's amazing! But if they don't, that's totally okay too. To me, posting the podfic as a 'gift' makes it seem like the writer is obligated to listen, and I don't want them to feel like they have to.   Audio might not be their thing, you know?
This work is a remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work
Definitely check this box!! This is AO3's official mechanism for crediting the writer and linking your podfic back to the original text.
You will then get a menu that looks like this:
Tumblr media
If your podfic is of a text work posted on AO3, all you have to do is enter the URL. For works not on AO3, fill out all the boxes.
The end result is a note on your work that says "Inspired by Title by Author" (with automatic hyperlinks and everything!)
If you have more than one text work included in your podfic (for example, a story that was posted in two parts but which you're combining into one podfic), you'll need to enter the first text work, save your work as a draft, and then "edit" in order to enter the next text work.
Next section:  Privacy
Tumblr media
Nothing really podfic specific here! Decide what you want to do with those three privacy checkboxes.
The only thing I will caution is, if you made a podfic of a locked work (one of those works that has an image of a padlock next to the title), it's probably best to also lock the podfic (aka check the "only show your work to registered users" box), or to ask the author if they're okay with the podfic version being unlocked.
Last section:  Work Text
Almost done! This is the real important part.
Tumblr media
The only thing you really need to have here is a link to your audio, everything else is extra. And if the only thing you want to do is put a link, that's totally fine!
Many podficcers though, including myself, will put additional information and formatting to make the post look more appealing and to add clarity.
Here is the code I use.  Feel free to take this code and copy it, or edit it to suit your needs and preferences.
<p align="center">   <img src="ART URL" alt="STORY NAME Cover Art" width="400" height="400" /><br /> <i>cover art by <a href="ARTIST URL">ARTIST NAME</a></i> </p>
<p align="center"> <strong>Listen</strong><br /> <embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashvars="audioUrl=MP3 URL" src="http://podfic.com/player/audio-player.swf" width="400" height="27" allowscriptaccess="never" allownetworking="internal"></embed><br /> <i>(or click <a href="MP3 URL">here</a> for mobile streaming)</i> </p>
<p align="center"><strong>Text:</strong> <a href="TEXT URL">STORY NAME</a></p>
<p align="center"><strong>Author:</strong> <a href="AUTHOR URL">AUTHOR NAME</a></p>
<p align="center"><strong>Reader:</strong> <a href="PODFICCER URL">PODFICCER NAME</a></p>
<p align="center"><strong>Length:</strong> LENGTH</p>
<p align="center"><strong>Downloads:</strong> <a href="MP3 URL">mp3</a> | <a href="M4B URL">m4b</a><br/> <em>(right click to save-as)</em></p>
Make sure you're in HTML mode when you paste in the code.
If you want to include a streaming player (that's what the "embed" part of the code above is for), you'll need to have a direct download link for your podfic. Audio hosting services where you have to click-through, like mediafire, won't work.  For help with streaming podfic, blackglass has put together a great tutorial.
And you're done! Yay! Time to post! I highly recommend clicking "Preview" instead of "Post Without Preview" so that you can double check and make sure everything looks how you want it and that your audio links work.
Tumblr media
I hope this helped. If you have questions, feel free to drop me an ask!

7 things I learned in 2018 that I am grateful for!
Every year, I’m always thinking about the kind of publication I want to write and share in the midst of all the ups and downs as we approach the new year. 2018 was a year of retrospection, a slow year, a year to re-establish new goals and ambitions in life, a year to take care of my pending health problems and, finally, a year to be a better person (of the family). I know that the last part of my sentence may sound a bit confusing, but in reality, this was one of the areas that I fought the most to face. Either making time to call my parents in my busy life or to talk to my childhood best friend (who was not more than 8-10 times strangers this year) or take on responsibilities “at home” much more seriously. I intended to be a better person, make time to do things at home with much more passion for forgotten hobbies, make better daily routines and make time to exercise at least 3-4 times in a week without fail.
Blogging as an industry, as a company has completely changed in 2018 and although I am one of the first generation bloggers, I find it quite difficult to face virtual life with all the madness I have in my real life. If you have read my publication on how to make money with blogs in India, or how much money you make with blogs, you will know that in the current era, personal development is committing to living a perfect ‘Instagram’ life. I am guilty of doing the same. That said, if you’re married (with someone who is not even close to your profession), have things to do (home editing and not a personal skin care list), have compromised your health to a certain extent or have wandered aimlessly in your mobile applications (for hours) this year, this is the publication for you!
1. Do not leave excuses to spend time with family, your parents or relax with your siblings. Call and let people know that you miss being with them even if you are part of 100 family groups, chat groups or more of WhatsApp.
Personal note: start remembering birthdays and be sure to call everyone you can in 2019.
2. Making lists of daily household tasks is as important as making lists of office tasks. A shower knob may need repair, your ceiling fans may need cleaning, a long pendant needs an update and a sorting in the closet, a broken toilet bowl must be discarded, a toothbrush may need a wash and a purifier of water RO They need sail replacement or service et al. Start performing daily tasks not so glorified with great passion and find happiness by fixing things offline
Personal note: work on the daily expenditure / budget lists in 2019 for a larger savings plan
3. Read, play, paint, dance, cycle, join a short baking course, learn the art of making chocolates, pick up continental food classes or teach. Perform hobbies that have been buried deep in a grave since you picked up your work.
Note to myself: I finished reading the Harry Potter series in January-February 2019. I already feel judged by sharing this, but I have not read any books after the first and only saw movies, the Harry Potter studio in London to know details things
4. Do not travel through the perfect Instagram photos. It is important to travel, live your experience, learn about a place you visit and still not have perfect Instagram photos. The business of ‘influencing’ is only effective when your experiences make people opt for that same thing that you used or supported. Brand travel is a completely different game, but when you travel with your family or with your loved ones on a non-sponsored trip, try not to fall into the perfect photos. It will save you time and help you see places from a different perspective. I decided to share some husks from all the trips I made in the second half of the year, and that made me happier!
Personal note: continue with the publication of fewer photos while traveling to make the most of the trip!
5. It is okay to change your goals and ambitions in life as you get older. There is nothing wrong with developing an idea with the utmost passion as you continue your current journey. For bloggers, the objectives, the ambitions will change and, in addition, the lives of their readers will also change. Ambitious people are goal oriented and are always struggling towards the next milestone. Do not feel so bad if your current project no longer excites you, you can always change your work, your work profile, your travel plans, your business ideas, your content on Instagram et al.
Their ambitions also control their quality parameter versus quantity. For example, I do not believe in anyone on social networks who gets excited with ALL the launch of new products in the market and then goes crazy on their social networks, this is also a reason why you will realize that I am reducing so many collaborations of products of the same category of products in my blog. For a long time I resisted this change, but after 7 years of blogging and many small projects in between, here I am with Weddingbytes.in. A label that I have co-created with my majority.
#gallery-0-4 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-4 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
7 things I learned in 2018 that I am grateful for! 7 things I learned in 2018 that I am grateful for! Every year, I'm always thinking about the kind of publication I want to write and share in the midst of all the ups and downs as we approach the new year.
