my curse of strahd party's (now quite old) tokens! they've come such a long way, and it's such an honor to be the dm for such great players.
the girl on the bottom left died in our session last night in cold barely-premeditated murder by her brother, and her player took over playing escher, so now escher is a full member of the party (but who knows for how long?)

Anacaona's legacy, a varsity jacket design commissioned by Annie. This one got semi-rendered shading, but I've also done a more simplified style to work with an embroidery machine.

Art by Kervin Andre
Repost @akomicsart
December 5th 1492, the first wave of virus landed on a large island in the region of the western Atlantic Ocean that later came to be known as the Caribbean. It was inhabited by the Taíno and Arawakan people, who variously called their island Hayti (Ayiti) Bohio Kiskeya (Quisqueya). #ayitikiskeyabohio #akomicsart #ajiayabombe #tainos #arawak 🐚🪶

The Royal Diaries
Growing up, born in the early 90’s, my absolute favorite book were The Royal Diaries series from Scholastic. These books were a spinoff from the Dear America books (which I also read). They followed the middle age/teenage years of historically important royal women. To be honest, my obsession with monarchies and my interest in history (and my history degree) can be firmly traced from this series.…

The Royal Diaries: Anacaona, Golden Flower
by Edwidge Danticat
series The Royal Diaries
Synopsis
Edwidge Danticat, the award-winning, best-selling author of THE FARMING OF BONES and KRIK? KRAK! offers a powerful addition to The Royal Diaries series with the story of Haiti's heroic queen Anacaona. With her signature narrative grace, Edwidge Danticat brings Haiti's beautiful queen Anacaona to life. Queen Anacaona was the wife of one of her island's rulers, and a composer of songs and poems, making her popular among her people. Haiti was relatively quiet until the Spanish conquistadors discovered the island and began to settle there in 1492. The Spaniards treated the natives very cruelly, and when the natives revolted, the Spanish governor of Haiti ordered the arrests of several native nobles, including Anacaona, who was eventually captured and executed, to the horror of her people.

In 1503, the governor of the island Nicolás de Ovando sent word to Anacaona that he was going to Jaragua for a friendly visit. This visit had the pretext of improving the relations between the conquerors and the Indians. Before this visit, Anacaona gathered numerous caciques from the area and offered Ovando and his companions a great reception with dances and parties, the same one he had done years before with Bartholomew Columbus.
Despite the demonstrations of friendship offered to the governor, he believed the chiefs were planning a conspiracy. For that reason, Ovando pretended to reciprocate the honors with which he was received and invited Anacaona and the other caciques to witness a military drill in his honour. They assembled in a large main house of wood and thatched roof, built to house Ovando and his companions. Those on horseback and those on foot began to surround them and when more enthusiastic were the lords, at a agreed signal, all the cavalry with spears and swords attacked violently against them, setting fire to the house and killing many of them. Diego Méndez, one of the protagonists of the fourth voyage of Columbus, lived in Jaragua at that time. He stated in his testament that 84 caciques died.
Anacaona was transferred to Santo Domingo, and three months later she was tried and sentenced to death hanged, punishment that was applied at that time to the accused of conspiracy. Ovando's performance in this act is one of the most inexplicable and cruel acts of his rule. The impact of this punishment quickly reached Queen Isabella I of Castile, who promptly dismissed him from her deathbed upon hearing of his actions.

what does love feel like to you ?
Tumblr media
a knife
you know you can't have them. maybe they don't want you. maybe you don't want to ruin what you have. maybe you've tried and it was ruined anyway. but it hurts anyways, doesn't it? it feels like a knife twisting itself deeper and deeper into your chest. you can't get a good enough grip on the hilt to pull it out. and maybe you don't want to.

a memory
do you know what love is? you think you did, once upon a time. maybe you never did. you hold onto what you think love is; how you felt when you thought you had it. it's fleeting, and maybe you'll never feel that way again. but wasn't it great? how long will you stay here, lost in this world of fantasy and memory? when will you move on?
stole it from : @legacyshero <3

so so so. like. for a long time I’ve wanted to write a transcript-based story. I love reading stage dramas and reading/writing fake scripts and I’m into anything that cuts a story down to the characters’ voices alone. but you don’t find a lot of them in the wild - I usually get my “reading transcripts” fix with podcast transcripts - so it’s become sort of a semi-frequent thing that I go hunting for books that are mainly transcripts, which you’d think would be easy to do by searching for found-footage novels
but it’s NOT, because found footage in novels includes transcripts but overwhelmingly consists of diary entries and letters, which are the VERY OPPOSITE of transcripts !!! no shade to dracula daily (dracula is, in fact, an exception to my rule) but I hate reading epistolary novels with a fiery passion. rather than trimming down all the externals, the grace and length and mood and senses of prose, into just the bare voices of the player characters in the moment, epistolary novels add LAYERS of time and disbelief between me and the subject of the story. drives me crazy !!! nothing is happening in the room with me, there’s no chance for real honesty or energy or emotional momentum !!! and if there is, then it snaps my suspension of disbelief because no one actually writes diaries or letters the way they must in epistolary novels. the intrusion of time into epistolary works smothers every sharp sensation and flattens every soft one.
I do think they can work well in small doses. letters are great for dramatic irony and demonstrating relationship dynamics. diary entries can be excellent for dramatic irony too, and fridge horror. they can serve all kinds of purposes. but the fact that most found-footage novels are primarily letter- and diary-based is soooo frustrating when those are the exact opposites of the kind of book I’m trying to find.

Feral Casey AU (FCAU) Masterpost
🚧 This AU is a WIP, only concept art for now. The comic is not fully released yet and will return in Spring 2024. 🚧
.
FCAU-themed Spotify Playlist
FCAU Febuwhump 2024
.
Summary: Casey Jr is raised by Kraang, developing a feral state and other unnatural abilities. When he joins the Resistance at age 8, his moral compass is flipped around. He grew up being told that humans and yokai were pests and that Kraang is superior. How does it feel to be on the wrong side this whole time?
Does this follow the canon/are we time traveling? Most definitely it is different but the characters themselves will be close to canon. As for canonical events like Donnie and Raph’s deaths, I honestly have no clue what to do with them so... We will not be time traveling but I may have our resident mystic warrior peer into other timelines at some point just for shits and giggles.
