ML: Are They Worthy? Chapter 37: Operation: Hero Love!
Before he went home, Vlad stopped by Master Fu’s place. “What is it?” he asked.
“I believe they’re ready to know” Vlad said.
Master Fu looked at him. Beyyo nodded. “Very well” he said. Vlad left.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Ziggy asked.
“If the holder of the wolf miraculous and the kwami of doubt are ready to reveal it to them, then I don’t see that much of a problem” Master Fu said.
Ziggy looked at him. “You know, as guardian, you have some level of authority over him. You seem to be letting him boss you around.”
“That is true, but you could tell the level of conviction he had” Master Fu said. “If I had said no, he still would have done it anyway.”
“I guess that’s true” Ziggy said.
“It is wise to learn to pick your battles” Master Fu said. “Otherwise, you’ll end up losing whatever power you have.”
“I see” Ziggy said.
The next day at school, there was a noticeable distance between Adrien and Marinette. Both of them wanted to say something, but neither knew what to say. Marinette knew that anything she said wouldn’t speed up Adrien’s answer and Adrien wants to say ‘yes’ but needed to talk with Ladybug.
Once it was time for a break, Vlad pulled Nino and Alya aside. Beyyo left to take care of something else. “Alya. Nino. I need your help” Vlad said.
“With what?” Alya said.
“Isn’t obvious?” Vlad asked. “Marinette and Adrien.”
“Oh” Alya said.
“I have a plan that will get them together tonight. However, that’s going to be time consuming. So I’m going to need you to set up the rest of the evening. Plus, you know them better” Vlad said. “Can you do that?”
“Sure sure” Nino said. “But, what makes you so sure that they’ll even talk to each other, let alone go on this date?”
Vlad put a hand of each of their shoulders. “That… is a story for another time. And worst case scenario, it doesn’t work, and you guys can use the date. Deal?”
Nino and Alya looked at each other, smiled, and said “Deal!”
Meanwhile, Beyyo had gathered Tikki and Plagg. “What’s this about?” Tikki asked.
“Yeah, I was just about to take a nice nap, you know” Plagg said.
“My user and I are working on telling Ladybug and Cat Noir who they are to each other” Beyyo said. Both of the other kwamis were stunned silent. Beyyo continued “I just needed to see if both of you were on board for it.”
“Well, I’m on board” Plagg said. “I’m sick of him not doing anything when it comes to women. Besides, I told him yesterday not to visit Ladybug, but he didn’t listen.”
“Is that true?” Tikki asked.
“Of course” Plagg said.
Tikki glared at him. She then broke the glare and said, “Well, I have some concerns. Do you think Ladybug would be able to handle it?”
Beyyo smiled “We wouldn’t be doing this if we thought she couldn’t.”
Tikki now glared at him. “Very well. But if things go wrong, I’m taking it out on you.”
“By all means” Beyyo said. The three went back to their owners. Tikki and Plagg hid, while Beyyo conversed with Vlad before hiding. “I got their OK” he said “Although, if things go wrong, TIkki’s going to beat me up.”
“Well, let’s hope this goes without a hitch,” Vlad said. “I got Alya and Nino to plan the night. Things are going well so far.” Vlad then got a text message. “‘Party at Chloe’s tomorrow night! Don’t tell anyone if you got this message.’ Huh? Good thing it’s not tonight.”
“Yeah, that’s lucky” Beyyo said.
“It looks like our plans are coming together nicely, huh?” Vlad said. The bell rang. “Hide Beyyo.”
After school, before Adrien left, Vlad caught him. “Adrien!” He pulled him aside. “I can get Ladybug to talk to you. Tonight at 6 at the Place des Vosges.”
“Really? But how?” Adrien asked.
“You leave that to me” Vlad said.
“Well, thanks” Adrien said. He had a confused look on his face, but as he kept walking, it turned to a smile.
Marinette and Vlad walked up to each other and Marinette asked “What was that about?”
Vlad smiled. “I got Adrien to agree to meet with you so he can give you his answer. Tonight at 6 at the Place des Vosges. Can you make it?”
“Of course” Marinette said. “But, how did you get him to do it?”
“Well, we’re friends. I have ways of being persuasive” Vlad said. “Anyway, seeya.” Vlad took off.
Marinette grabbed Alya and asked “Hey Alya, can you come and talk with me?”
Alya noticed her friend’s nervousness, but she also knew that blowing her off was for her in the end. So she said “Sorry girl. I promised Nino we would do something this afternoon.” Marinette looked disappointed. “Relax girl. You got this! You’ve already confessed to him. That’s the biggest hurdle.”
Marinette smiled. “Thanks Alya.” Alya left with Nino, and Marinette went off by herself.
“What are you going to do?” TIkki asked.
“Well, I’m going to meet Adrien tonight” Marinette said. “But I need something to take my mind off of it until then. So, maybe we can head over to Kagami’s and see what her mother has?”
“Whatever you want, Marinette” Tikki said.
“Tikki! Spots on!” Marinette called, transforming into Ladybug. She then left for Kagami’s.
“Really? Thank you SO much!” Alya said on the phone. She hung up. “Alright, I found a nice little bistro that had tables available. Their online ranking is about 3 ½ stars, so it should be good.”
“And done” Nino said, dripping the last of the cookie dough on the baking pan. “Now we just gotta put it in, and we’ll have a nice gift for the two of them as well.”
“Now all we gotta do is find out where Andre is going to be tonight” Alya said.
“It’s so nice of you to do this all for your friends” Trixx said.
“Indeed. I believe it’s, how you say, radical” Wayzz said. Nino and Alya rolled their eyes. “By the way, can we get a helping of that cookie dough?”
“Yeah. Can we? Please?!” Trixx joined in.
“OK you two, but save some for us” Alya said. The two kwamis began to chow down. Nino was writing something down. “And what are you doing?”
“I’m writing them a note” Nino said. “To send with the cookies. Wanna say something?”
Alya looked at her boyfriend. “Sure” she said. She took the pen and began writing.
Ladybug arrived at the Tsurugi household and rang the bell. Tomoe answered. “Hello?”
“Hi ma’m. It’s Ladybug” she said.
“Come on in” Tomoe said. Ladybug entered.
Ladybug heard a song playing. “...Frustration is getting bigger! Bang! Bang Bang! Pull my Devil Trigger…”
“Um, what’s that?” Ladybug asked.
“Oh , that? My daughter recently convinced me to let her play video games. She’s been enamored with that one since she got it” Tomoe said.
“I see” Ladybug said. “Anyway, my friend told me you have stuff for me?”
“Yes” Tomoe said. She grabbed some of the artifacts. “Here.” She gave them to Ladybug. “They might not be much, but it’s what I’ve got.”
Ladybug took them. “Really. Any little bit helps. I’ll take them to the guardian.”
“There’s a guardian in Paris?” Tomoe said. “I thought they were all wiped out.”
“Well, mostly” Ladybug said, sadly. “But there is one. And he thanks you for these.”
Tomoe smiled. “When you see him, please give him my gratitude.”
“Will do” Ladybug said. She left with the artifacts.
Alya got an alert on her phone while Nino was taking the cookies out of the oven. “Woah!” she said.
“What is it?” Nino asked.
“Look where Andre is going to be tonight” Alya said, sharing her phone with him.
Nino looked. “Woah!”
Trixx and Wayzz were sitting on top of the fridge. “So, how do you think Vlad is managing to get them both there?” Trixx asked.
“Well, this is just a guess, but I think he’s using his secret” Wayzz said, tapping the front of his face.
“Ohhhhhhhhhh. That makes sense” Trixx said. “Wait, do you think that that means…?”
“I do” Wayzz said.
“Woah!” Trixx replied.
“What are you two talking about?” Alya asked.
“Nothing!” Trixx said. Alya was curious.
“Wayzz. Come on bro. What’s up?” Nino asked.
“We’re just talking kwami stuff” Wayzz answered.
Nino sighed. “Well, whatever. We’ll figure it out eventually.”
“Especially from you Trixx. You’re pretty bad at lying” Alya said.
Trixx pouted “I’m the kwami of illusion. I’m better at lying with images than words.”
“Alright, I’m sorry” Alya said.
Marinette arrived at Master Fu’s with the artifacts. “Master Fu! These are some artifacts that someone gave to me regarding kwamis and stuff” Marinette said, setting them down.
“Thanks Marinette” Master Fu said.
“She also told me to tell you thanks for being a guardian” Marinette said.
“I see” Master Fu said. “She’s very welcome.”
“Anyway, can you look through this by yourself? I’ve got an important meeting tonight, and I have to get ready.”
“Of course” Master Fu said.
“Great. Seeya!” Marinette ran out the door.
Ziggy popped out and said “You don’t even need my power to tell how she’s feeling.”
“That’s what makes her a good Ladybug” Master Fu said. “She projects an earnest truth wherever she goes. That way, people can know what she’s like and trust her right away.”
“Of course” Ziggy said.
Marinette finished preparing herself. “Tikki, how do I look?”
“You look great!” TIkki said. “And Alya’s right. You don’t have anything to be so nervous about.”
“Thanks Tikki” Marinette said. “I just hope it goes right.” She headed downstairs. “I’m meeting someone. Be back tonight.”
“Very well” Sabine said.
“Take care now,” Tom said.
“I will. Bye momon. By papa” Marinette said. She left her building.
Adiren was walking down stairs. “Where are you going?” Gabriel asked.
Adrien turned to meet his father. “I’m meeting someone in the Place des Vosges. It’s kind of important.”
Gabriel nodded his head. “Very well. You know the rules. Just be back by midnight.”
Adrien smiled. “Thanks father!” He ran out the door. He continued running until he found a place to hide. “Plagg! Claws out!” He transformed into Cat Noir.
Marinette was in the Place des Vosges, looking around for any sign of Adrien. Cat Noir lept into the area and started to look for Ladybug. That’s when he saw Marinette. “Marinette?” he said.
“Cat Noir?!” Marinette said. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m supposed to meet Ladybug here” Cat Noir said.
“Oh” Marinette said. “Well, what if she doesn't show?”
“That’s impossible. Judgement Wolf said she’d be here” Cat Noir said. “Well, what about you. What are you doing here?”
Marinette was confused, but answered honestly. “I’m supposed to be meeting this guy I like. My friend Vlad said he’d be here.” Cat Noir looked equally confused.
“Allow me to explain” Vlad said, coming out of the woodwork. He walked up to Marinette, put his arm around her shoulder and said “Marinette. Meet Adrien.” He then did the same to Cat Noir. “Cat Noir. Meet Ladybug.”
Marinette can Cat Noir stared at each other blankly for a few seconds. Cat Noir then said “Plagg! Claws in!” Turning back into Adrien.
“Adrien?” Marinette said. Tikki then appeared in front of her.
“Ladybug?” Adrien replied.
“I don’t understand” Marinette said.
“It’s simple” Vlad said. “You two are Paris’s premiere superhero duo.”
“So, I was in love with you this whole time?” Adrien said. “Just my luck. The girl of my dreams was a lot closer than I realized, and I didn’t notice.”
“You were, in love with me?” Marinette said.
“Well, yeah...As Ladybug…” Adrien said.
“Oh” Marinette said. “If I had known, I might have said yes to you all those times.”
Adrien smiled. “It’s OK Marinette. This gives me a chance to say yes to you.”
“You mean?!” Marinette said.
“Of course” Adrien said. “I’d like to go out with you.” He gave her a hug. Marinette started blushing uncontrollably. She eventually gave him a hug back.
“Good” Vlad said. “Your first date is tonight.”
“Tonight?!” Marinette said.
“But, I haven’t prepared anything” Adrien said.
“Relax. I got Nino and Alya to help out” Vlad said. “They also sent you these cookies and a card.” He handed the cookies to Marinette.
“Wait, do THEY know?” Marinette asked. “You know... About...” she gestured to Tikki and Plagg.
“Of course not. I was very careful about that” Vlad said. Marnette sighed.
Adrien took the card and opened it. Marinette looked on. “Hey dude. I assume if you’re you’re reading this, you’ve at least agreed to go out. Congratulations dude and dudette! I knew you’d get there eventually. Well, as soon as I figured it out. You two make a good couple. I hope things go well for you tonight and for the rest of time. -Nino.”
“Hey girl. You finally did it! You finally got Adrien to go out with you. I am so proud of you! And Adrien, if you break her heart, I will beat you up. But I know you won’t. You’re such a good person, and I know that you’ll cherish her forever. -Alya.”
“We have such good friends” Adrien said.
“Anyway, you have reservations at a restaurant at 7” Vlad said. “Here’s the address.”
Marinette read the address. “That’s not too far from here. Ready?”
“For you? Always” Adrien said. The two walked hand in hand, sharing the cookies along the way.
Vlad watched on. “Well, my work here is done.”
“I gotta say, that went well” Beyyo said.
Marinette and Adrien arrived at the bistro. They asked about their table, and the waiter lead them there and took their order. The two were sitting opposite of each other. “I’ve gotta say, this isn’t exactly how I imagined our first date would go” Marinette said.
“Me either. But I’m glad we have friends like Alya, Nino, and Vlad to push us” Adrien said. “Otherwise, we probably wouldn’t be having this date at all. We’d still be caught up in out own little fantasies.”
“Yeah. You’re right” Marinette said. She took a sip of her water. “So, might I ask, what made you fall in love with Ladybug?”
Adrien smiled. “I fell in love almost instantly. It was during the second Stoneheart fight. They way you were concerned. The way you saved everybody. The way you challenged Hawk Moth when he tried to spin things. You were amazing.”
Marinette blushed. “Thanks” she said. “To tell the truth, after I had failed to capture the Akuma the first time, I almost considered giving up on being Ladybug.”
This took Adrien by surprise. “What made you change your mind?”
Marinette smiled. “Alya was in trouble. I needed to help.”
Adrien smiled. “That’s so like you.” He paused for a moment. “So, when did you fall in love with me?”
Marinette was shocked. She then answered. “It was when you gave me that umbrella and apologized to me. I could see just how sweet you were then. After I got mad and wrote you off you talked to me anyway. You were still nice to me. I admire how you always make people feel at ease.”
“I see” Adrien said. “Well, Nino was the one who encouraged me to talk to you after that.”
“It sounds like our friends were setting us up before they even knew it” Marinette said.
“You’re right” Adrien chuckled.
The two continued their date and talked about all of the trouble they seemed to cause themselves because of this secret. Evillistrator. Horrificator. Simon Says. Santa Claws. Riposte. Glaciator. Gorizilla. Zombizou. Frozer. Style Queen. Backwarder. Weredad. Homewrecker. Despite the amount of embarrassment that caused for them, they had fun anyway.
“I’m having a lot of fun tonight” Adrien said.
“Me too” Marinette said.
“Do you think this is how we felt during the Oblivio attack?” Adrien asked.
“Oh no” Marinette said. She started banging her head on the table.
“What’s wrong?” Adrien asked.
“I just realized that when we kiss, it’ll be our THIRD kiss” Marinette said. “Once to break you from Dark Cupid’s spell, and the Oblivio kiss.”
Adrien laughed. “Well at least it won’t be our fourth” he said, reminding her of the incident at the wax museum. Marinette groaned. “Don’t worry Marinette. When we kiss, it’ll be one we know and cherish for all time. Promise.”
Marinette stopped banging her head on the table. “Thanks.”
They finished their dinner and Adrien footed the bill. He smiled, looking at Marinette. “What?” she said.
“Nothing” Adrien said. “I just love you.” Marinette blushed.
They then got an alert on their phones. Marinette got one from Alya, and Adrien got one from Nino. Despite this, they said the same thing, and Marinette and Adrien knew it. “The night’s not over yet!” with a picture of Andre’s in front of the Eiffel Tower.
“Well, shall we?” Adrien said.
“We shall” Marinette replied. The two headed out of the restaurant and to Andre’s.
Once they got there, Andre got a good look at the two of them and said “Oh my! Such love! Such passion! I can only assume you’re coming here for sweethearts ice cream as a couple!”
Marinette and Adrine looked at each other. Marinette said. “We are.”
“My! How wonderful!” Andre said. He got out his ice cream scoop. “Peach pink like his lips, and mint like his eyes. Don’t think Andre can’t see through your lies.” He handed Marinette her ice cream.
“Yeah. Sorry about that. I was just a little upset and embarrassed” Marinette said.
“It’s alright, cause in the end, I really cherish you AND your boyfriend!” Andre said.
“Thanks” Marinette said.
“Woah. Was that about me?” Adrien asked.
“Yes! And now for you” Andre said. “Strawberry with black chocolate chip! Blackberries for her hair! And blueberry ice cream, just like her sky-blue stare!”
“Thanks” Adrien said.
Andre looked a little confused. “I can see the blackberry and blueberry, but the strawberry puzzles me. I know it to be true, but is there something I don’t see?”
Marinette froze. Adrien answered. “It resembles how I fell in love with her. I usually refer to her as our Everyday Ladybug. She’s so kind and helpful that I couldn’t help but fall in love with her.”
“Ah! How wonderfully delightful!” Andre said.
The couple went to enjoy their ice cream. The fed some to their kwamis. Adrien stopped eating his for a little bit. “Is something wrong?” Marinette asked.
“No” Adrien said. “For once, everything is right.” He looked at his new girlfriend. “And it’s all because of you.” Marinette smiled.
They finished their ice cream and started heading out. Adrien stopped Marinette and said. “I had a wonderful night.”
“Me too” Marinette replied.
“Wanna make it even more wonderful?” Adrien said. Marinette knew what was about to happen. Their faces grew closer. Their eyes closed. Their lips locked.
Tikki and Plagg were watching from the sidelines. “Isn’t this sweet?” Tikki said. She looked at Plagg. “Are you crying?”
“No!’ Plagg said. Tikki giggled.
An onlooker recognized Adrien and snapped a photo of the kiss. Pretty soon,it was all over the internet. When Alya and Nino saw it, they both smiled and Alya said “Way to go!” The rest of the class saw it and had a similar reaction, except for Lila, who was seething. She expected Hawk Moth to Akumatize her.
But he didn’t. Instead, Gabriel saw the picture and smiled. “Nathalie. Find whoever took that photo.”
“What are you going to do?” Nathalie asked.
“I don’t know. I’ll think of something” Gabriel said.
“Are you happy for Adrien?” Nathalie asked.
Gabriel said. “Of course Nathalie. I’m over the moon.”
“Very well, sir” Nathalie said.
When Tom and Sabine saw the photo, the collectively went “Awwwwww!”
Tom then said “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
Sabine answered “Make a cake with that picture on it for their next date?”
“You know it!” Tom said.
Luka was playing his guitar when he got the photo. He laughed to himself and started playing an upbeat melody. “This is how you feel now.”
Kagami was just got done practice when she saw the photo. She smiled smugly and said “I’m glad it’s to her. I won’t lose next time.”
Master Fu saw the photo and said “Well done Ladybug. Cat Noir.”
The kiss ended. “Wow” Marinette said.
“Wow” Adrien said. “Shall I take you home?” Marinette took Adrien’s hand and they walked to Marinette’s.
When they got there, Tom and Sabine gave the two a big hug. “What’s this about?” Sabine held up her phone and showed them the picture. “Oh no.” Marinette said.
“Cheer up Marinette” Adrien said. “It’s a lovely photo.”
“It is” Sabine said.
“I’m so happy for you two,” Tom said, wiping a tear out of his eye.
Adrien and Marinette walked upstairs to Marinette’s room. “How about one just for us?” Adrien asked. They shared another kiss. “Goodnight” Adrien said, leaving.
“Goodnight” Marinette said back, moments after the door was closed.
Adrien staggered home after midnight. His dad was there waiting for him. “I can explain,” he said.
“You don’t have to” Gabriel said, smiling.
Adiren smiled back. “Thanks father!”

Chapter 3: The Descent
Marinette looked around the courtyard, seeing all her friends with a crush or boyfriend/girlfriend. Sighing to herself, she knew she had to give Adrien some space, he had been cozying up to Kagami lately and genuinely seemed happy with her. Marinette needed to take a moment and allow herself to have some fun also. She had planned on going to the fair with Alya and Nino, but she didn’t want to be a third wheel. So why not ask her friends all go and just so happens to be group dates? Taking a deep breath, she approached Adrien and Kagami with shaky hands. Heart pounding, she wasn’t prepared for basically setting her future-husband with a picture-perfect girl who was perfect in almost every way. Well, more perfect than she-herself was. At least Kagami didn’t drop everything at the slight of a hat. Or create a hat that her love was allergic to. Smiling as she finally approached the two, she waved at them.
    “Hey guys.”
“Hey Marinette!” Adrien spoke chipper as always.
“Hello Marinette.” Kagami nodded, eyes squinting at her, she obviously saw how Marinette fumbled around Adrien and could add two and two together.
“So, are you guys doing anything day after tomorrow?” Marinette asked, intertwining her fingers in front of her abdomen, nerves causing her to wring her fingers.
“Uh. Nothing to my knowledge.” Kagami said, a perfect eyebrow raised.
“I don’t think I have anything after an 8am photoshoot. What’s up?” Adrien then raised a perfect eyebrow.
“Well, Alya, Nino and I were going to go to the fair and I didn’t want to be a third wheel, so I figured I’d invite everyone. Kinda like a mega-group date?” Marinette explained.
“And who all would be going on this ‘mega-group date’ thing?” Kagami asked, air quotes around mega-group date.
“Well,” Marinette brought her fingers up, scrunching her index fingers together then separate them before pushing them together once more. “Nino and Alya, Ivan and Mylène, Juleka and Rose, Luka and I, Kim and Undine, and you two if you would like that.” Marinette explained, looking at them with eyes that seemed to be pleading. The two in question shared a look, with a shrug between them.
“I can see what I can do, if you would like to go?” Adrien asked Kagami, looking at her with a gentle smile. “I think it would be fun.” She looked between Adrien and herself, thinking awfully hard about it.
“And you’ll be with Luka?” Kagami asked Marinette with a slight nod of her head. Marinette in healed deeply before looking up at Kagami.
“Yeah. I will be.” She needed to actually ask Luka.
“Then yes, I will go with Adrien.” A slight blush arose on Kagami’s cheeks, causing Marinette’s heart to drop into her stomach.
“Ok cool! I’ll go share the news.” Marinette smiled at them before turning away, heading to find Alya and the girls. She felt a comforting push against her leg, Tikki trying to comfort her as best as possible. Why did she do this to herself? But then again, Luka was a nice guy. They had a lot in common. And after Silencer, with the words Luka had said to her not once, but twice. That’s a good indication that she should at least give him another chance. Not let her love for Adrien get in the way of being happy with someone else, especially when someone as perfect as Kagami was interested in Adrien. They even fenced together! Sparring partners. And their parents knew each other and seemed to be in some kind of deal together already. It’s only a matter of time before Kagami and Adrien pose together for Gabriel clothes. She rounded the entrance to the locker room and saw Alya talking to Nino.
“Hey, Alya, can I steal you for a minute and go find Mylène?” Marinette asked with a pained smile. Alya shared a look with Nino, clearly seeing the discomfort in the smile Marinette attempted to present as happy.
“Yeah, of course girl. I’ll see you in class Nino.” Alya kissed his cheek before she takes Marinette’s hand and head towards the girls’ bathroom. “Do you really need Mylène?” She whispers.
“Kinda?” Marinette managed, her eyes zoning out ever so slightly, seeming to distance herself from the moment at hand and the reality she just created for herself.
“Well, it seems like that’ll have to wait for now.” Alya spoke, looking at her best friend with concern as they stepped into the bathroom, going and standing in front of Marinette, hands on her shoulders. “What happened?”
“Nothing. I just invited Adrien and Kagami to go to the fair with us and Luka. I need to talk to Mylène and Ivan, Juleka and Rose, oh! I should also invite Nathaniel and Marc. I also said that Kim and Undine were invited also.”
“Marinette, breathe!” Alya interrupted her best friend. “Stop talking for a moment and take a deep breath.” Marinette nodded and followed the instructions from her best friend. “Now, why did you invite everyone?” Once again Marinette’s fingers pulled up into the inching snail position.
“Because I didn’t want to be a third-wheel to you and Nino.” She avoided her best friends gaze. “And I wanted to hang out with a lot of my friends. And Adrien so happens to be a friend and he’s been getting awfully friendly with Kagami lately, so I invited them as a duo. And I’ll have Luka for my duo.” Marinette explained, refusing to look at Alya. “But it’s fine, really.” Marinette smiled gently, finally looking at Alya.
    “Are you sure girl?”
“Yes. I mean, this is one way I will get to spend more time with him also.” She explained to her. “To strengthen our friendship.”
“If you are sure, Marinette.” Alya says with a slight shrug of a shoulder, crossing her arms as worry creased her eyebrows.
“Yeah,” Marinette put on her best smile. “I am.” She went over to her best friend, linking arms with her before heading out and towards their class. “So, any new dish on Ladybug and Chat Noir?” Marinette hopped that the bait would allow the change in subject. With a raised eyebrow, Alya followed Marinette’s lead, unsure of what just occurred.
“Well, at the moment just some theories of my own. Nothing unusual has occurred during the attacks besides the akuma’s being unusual themselves. I have an interview setup with someone to discuss what it’s like to have been saved by them. What I really need to do is set up an interview with August’s mom.” Alya let a giggle escape her, covering her mouth with her free hand. “Poor baby keeps getting akumatized. When will Hawkmoth realize akumatizing a toddler is not the best idea?”
“He’s not even a toddler!” Marinette laughed, shaking her head. “I do question Hawkmoth as to why he continues to akumitize poor little August.” She shakes her head as they arrive to the classroom, separating at the stairs so they can go up their respective sides.
“Maybe he just needs a babysitter so his mom can have a break.”
“It’s always for a lollipop.” Adrien voiced from where he was sitting, turning to look at Alya and Marinette sitting down. “August, the baby, always wants a lollipop. But his mother keeps telling him no.” He shakes his head, for some reason he looked very exasperated.
“Why doesn’t his mom just give him a lollipop?” Nino asked, adjusting his hat.
“Well, I can see it as a choking hazard for someone so young, especially if left unsupervised. Not to mention the sugar, now if it was sugar free it would be less of an issue then.” Marinette explained, tapping her chin. “So, I don’t understand why she doesn’t try and find something else for him to enjoy.”
“Age wise, I would say 3 or 4. That’s what Mom would tell Etta and Ella when they asked for one younger than that.” Alya explained, getting out her stuff for class as others start arriving in to class.
“Then I agree with Marinette, why doesn’t she find him something else to have?” Adrien raised an eyebrow causing everyone to shrug.
“If only we knew.” Marinette spoke softly, shaking her head. That would free up a lot of time that Chat Noir and her would be dealing with lately because of Gigantatitan. Maybe she’ll be able to get some homework done. She really needs to make sure her grades don’t slip again. They all look towards the front of the class when Mme. Bustier enters and greets the class.
Marinette had planned on talking to Mylène and Ivan about the fair coming up once classes were dismissed. She smiled when she saw them outside in the courtyard on a bench. Quickly heading over, Marinette waved upon arrival.
    “Hey guys!”
“Hey Marinette, what can we do for you?” Mylène smiled at her, tilting her head.
“Well, I was wanting to invite you two along to a group going to a fair as a group.” Marinette smiled at them two. “It’s basically going to be a giant date I believe because everyone’s going in pairs.” Ivan blushed as he looked down at his and Mylène’s intertwined hands.
“Sounds fun. What do you think Ivan?” She looked over at him, her gentle amber eyes gazing upon Ivan.
“Sounds fun as long as I’m with you.” Ivan replies, bringing up her hand to kiss it gently. Marinette’s heart bout exploded due to the cuteness.
“Awesome! I’ll create a group chat so that we can all get on the same page about it and there won’t be much confusion.”
“Even though you’ll probably still be late.” Mylène smiled at Marinette as she teased her friend gently.
“Most likely, you know how I tend to be at these things.” Marinette blushed, waving the comment off, images of her as Ladybug dealing with akumas whenever she and the girls were meant to hang out flashed through her mind. “I’ll be surprised if I make it to my wedding on time.” Marinette laughed nervously.
“You’ll probably be too worried about Adrien to remember that you have to walk down the aisle.” Ivan said softly, his eyes on Mylène but the comment was clearly dedicated to Marinette.
“Uh hah- uHm. You’re probably r-right Ivan. Anyways, I’ll um let you guys enjoy your lunch break, yeah. I’ll be headed to the bakery.” Marinette finger gunned towards them two as she began backing up, awkwardly fumbling over her feet as she did so, turning and lowering her head as she headed towards the doors.
“Don’t forget to create the group chat thing!” Mylène called out causing Marinette to throw up a thumbs up hand gesture letting her know that she, did indeed, get the message. Marinette stepped outside and looked towards her home, thinking suddenly about going and seeing Master Fu, maybe talking to him about the issue of Hawk Moth probably being Adrien’s dad would help her decide what to do. She headed to her home to pick up some deserts and a set of sandwiches to offer Master Fu, bringing along snacks shouldn’t be a bad idea. It would also give Marinette a distraction so that she wouldn’t have to look him in the eye when she brought this up again.
Before she forgot, she pulled out her phone, starting to set up a group chat with her and her friends for the fair. Scrolling through the contacts, she realized she forgot to ask Juleka, Rose and Luka. They were typically all three together at Juleka’s place so Marinette decided she could stop by there before visiting Master Fu. Clicking the button to complete the making of the group chat, she nodded to herself, quickly typing up a message for those in the chat to know what that was about. She locked her phone, sliding it in her purse. She looked to see Tikki sleeping, curled up with a chocolate cookie. Warmth swelled in Marinette’s heart for the affection she held to her kwami. Tikki had turned into truly one of her best friends. So had Chat, which made her think about how she really needed to talk to Fu so that she could discuss it with Chat also. Well, maybe they should have a meeting, but having Tikki and Plagg present would be beneficial also.
Arriving to her home, she entered the bakery and waved to her parents who were busy waiting on customers. She rounded the back and headed up to their home. Once she arrived in the kitchen, she began making some sandwiches and grab some previous day pastries. Humming a Jagged Stone song, she finished up the items for Master Fu and added everything into a brown bag, grabbing a separate one for the pastries to leave with Juleka. She looked down to check on Tikki to see she was still snoozing. Marinette turned and headed down the stairs, waving and saying bye to her parents, making sure not to disturb them as they were tending to customers.
The walk to the Couffaines’ was short and nice, a gentle breeze blowing to allow the air not to be still. Arriving to the houseboat, Marinette paused on the plank.
"Juleka?" She called out. "Luka?"
"Marinette! Welcome!" Their mom spoke, appearing out of nowhere before gesturing her to join her on the boat. "Come aboard! The mates are below deck! Go ahead and visit." She smiled, tipping her hat to Marinette before heading back to the captain's quarters. Marinette smiled and headed onto the sip, going down to where she knew Juleka would be. She could hear Luka strumming a guitar from somewhere on the boat. Entering Juleka’s room, she waved seeing that Rose was next to her, writing some stuff down.
"Hey Marinette! What are you doing here?" Juleka asked, tilting her head.
"I came to ask you two and Luka a question." Marinette explained before holding up their goodies. "I thought you guys would like some stuff from the bakery."
"Are you trying to bribe us for something, Marinette?" A cool voice sounded from where the door was. Turning her head, she saw Luka leaning against the door frame, a gentle smile on his lips as he looked at her.
"Not intentionally." Marinette laughed a little awkwardly, her cheeks tinting a slight bit.
"Well, what was the question?" Rose asked, coming up to investigate the bag. "Oooh! Strawberry! My favorite. Thank you, Marinette." Rose gave her a side hug, which she happily returned.
"Of course, Rose. And I was thinking of a mega group date?" Marinette shrugged one shoulder as she held up her hand. "I've already asked Mylene and Ivan, Kagami and Adrien, Nino and Alya were the original two people besides me." She counted off with her fingers. "And I am still needing to ask Kim and Undine, Nathaniel and Marc, and yeah.." Marinette trailed off with a smile, dropping her hand to look at them. "I figured you two could go as a pair," She turned to look at Luka. "And you and I go as a pair." She explained. "If you guys want to of course." She looked among her friends, trying to resist the skip of her heart when she looked upon Luka who was smiling at her cheerily with a light blush on his cheekbones.
"Oh! That sounds super fun!" Rose said excitedly, clapping best she could while holding her strawberry filled croissant.
"Yeah, sounds good to me." Juleka spoke softly, a gentle smile on her lips as she nodded. Reaching into the bag to pull out the blueberry Danish. "Thanks for the danish, Marinette. Blueberry is my favorite."
"Of course, Juleka." Marinette smiled happily at her before turning to Luka. "I didn't know your favorite treat, so I picked a macaroon for you." She smiled simply at him, offering the bag. "I'll add you guys to the group chat. But I've got to run for now." Marinette explained as she began to head out.
"I'll walk you out, Marinette." Luka spoke softly and the gentleness carried up to his eyes.
"O-Ok. See you girls later." Marinette waved back to Rose and Juleka before turning and following Luka out.
"Thank you for inviting me Marinette." He looked down at her with a sweet smile.
"Yeah! Of course. I figured after the ice-skating adventure, this would be fun also." She smiled up at him. "So, it's like a… date. If you want it to be, of course!" Marinette spoke quickly, feeling her cheeks warmed up at the mention of the d word.
"It will be an honor to accompany you, Marinette. I know with your melody; it'll inspire my harmony." He rested a hand on her shoulder, approaching the staircase. "Thank you, I'm excited for our date." He leaned down and kissed her cheek gently, backing away slowly. "If you need anything, before then, don't hesitate to let me know." He smiled at her, warmth in his eyes.
"I will, Luka. Thank you." Marinette smiled at him. Gaining the courage, she wrapped her arms around his waist before pecking his cheek as she steps back. "Have a good day." She says happily with a blush before heading up the stairs and off the boat.
"Wow Marinette! I'm so proud of you!" Tikki spoke up from popping her head from her purse.
"What for Tikki?" She asked, slightly puzzled as she looked down at her kwami.
"You asked Luka out on a date! I find that as a big step for you. Cause even though you still like Adrien, you can recognize the chance for both of you to be happy with someone else." Tikkis’ eyes light up at the change in her charge.
"Oh well thank you, Tikki." She sighs as she walks down the sidewalk, heading to Master Fu's. "I just hope some of the courage I had back there carries over to this conversation as well." Marinette sighs as she reaches to pull out her phone, adding the three to the group chat.
"I'll be there for you." Tikki patted Marinette's hand when she replaced the phone in her purse.
“Thank you, Tikki. At least you’ll be able to be out in the open at Master Fu’s.” Marinette thought out loud as they walked along the path. The air had a slight chill to it, or the wind, maybe it’ll storm later tonight. Glancing up at the sky, there wasn’t a cloud in sight. That didn’t shake the cold sensation that went around Marinette. The more she focused on it, the more it felt like she was being watched. Glancing around, she didn’t see anyone out of the ordinary. Everyone was minding their own business, going about their own errands and tasks. No one was paying attention to Marinette from what she could see. “Tikki, does it feel like someone’s watching us?” She whispered, her lips barely moving so people wouldn’t see her talking to ‘herself’.
“I do have a strange feeling, and I don’t like it.” Tikki responded, Marinette felt her shift deeper into her purse.
“Glad to know I’m not the only one.” She mumbled, looking around before continuing along her way. She didn’t go the normal way, opting to confuse anyone if they were indeed following her. Her heart was speeding by the time she arrived at Master Fu’s in what she felt like was safely. Nerves were high as she glanced around the street, seeing that she was alone, she quickly ducked down the side ally to head to Master’s back entrance. Once she had just gotten in the door, she left it cracked just to see if she could hear anyone. After waiting what seemed like five minutes, when it was probably only three, she heard what sounded like footsteps come to a pause. She held her purse closer to her hip, hiding the best she could behind the door, wondering who it was that had been following her. She felt Tikki’s movement as she phased out of the purse, Marinette didn’t watch to see what Tikki did, trusting her with whatever she was doing. The footsteps sounded as if they retreated, causing Marinette to fully close the door silently before leaning against it. She was being followed. But who was the perpetrator? Did Hawkmoth or Mayura find out her civilian identity? Or was it some guy that was going to mug her? None of the options were good. Taking a deep breath, she looked around for Tikki, not seeing her little kwami anywhere sent panic through Marinette.
“Tikki!?” She whispered-shouted for her dear friend, looking around as she did.
“Shh. I’m right here Marinette.” Tikki flew down from the ceiling, going and hugging Marinette’s cheek. “It’s ok. They're gone. I wanted to make sure you were safe. But we need to get to Master immediately.” Nodding in agreement, Marinette opened up her purse so that Tikki could fly back in without phasing before quickly heading up the stairs to Master’s home. She didn’t need to knock, for Master Fu had opened the door as she approached, gesturing her in quickly and shutting the door behind her quickly.
“Wayzz told me we were going to have a visitor.” He nodded to Marinette, a grave look on his face. “But when he felt Tikki’s appearance, it wasn’t right. She was distressed and he wanted to check it out. Are you ok Marinette? I’ve started a pot of tea.” She held her arms close to her, feeling shaky a bit.
“I am now that I’m here.” She mumbled, not wanting to look at Fu. Tikki flew out of her purse and kissed Marinette’s nose.
“We have something to share with you, Master.” Tikki spoke softly, turning around to bow to the master before resting on her charge’s shoulder.
“What would that be?” Master arched a fuzzy eyebrow as he stroked his beard.
“I think I figured out Hawkmoth’s identity,” Marinette said gravely as she sat the box of food on the table, opening it up to reveal the sandwiches. “I should’ve trusted my gut a long time ago. I have a list of facts between the two.” She began explaining as she sat down her backpack, taking out a folded piece of paper and handing it to Master Fu. “Gabriel Agreste.”

Chapter 4
Adrien drummed his fingers on the table, his cup rattling a little from the vibration, and he glanced around once more. It wasn’t like her to run late, so he wondered if she’d gotten held up. She was always punctual and never missed a planned meeting, but maybe his nerves were just making him a bit antsy. He took another sip of his coffee, supposing that it probably wasn’t helping his fidgeting problem much either.
The screech of the chair across from him against the pavement broke his trance, and he glanced up to see Kagami settling in and cocking a brow. “You rang?”
“Uh, yeah…” He said, tapping his fingertips together as she crossed her legs. “I wanted to talk to you about something.”
“Oh yeah?” She picked up the cup he’d ordered for her prior to her arrival and took a sip. “About what?”
“Well,” He drawled, shifting in his seat and averting his gaze. “You were right.”
“I often am, but about what in particular this time?” She rested her chin on her hands with a smug grin that told him she knew darn well what.
“About Marinette…how I feel about her,” He said, running a hand along the back of his neck. “You could tell from the moment you met me, couldn’t you?”
“That you were in love with her?” She cocked a brow, and he gave a small nod. “Yeah, it was obvious. You speak very highly of her, and your pupils dilate when she gets brought up.”
“I never realized before because there was…someone else, but lately we’ve just been spending so much time together and…I dunno, it just kind of hit me.” He trained his eyes on his cup while he spoke, flicking his gaze up to meet hers when he finished and shrugging.
“So now what are you going to do?” Kagami asked, lacing her fingers together neatly on the table.
“Well, the school dance is coming up, and Kitty Section is performing a song. I’m hoping to tell her how I feel after we perform. I don’t want to wait around again, hoping and pining. I want her to know so that maybe we can be more than just friends,” He said, pressing his lips into a determined line.
“I’m happy for you, Adrien,” Kagami said with a genuine smile. “And I’m sure she feels the same way about you.”
His cheeks flushed at that, and he rubbed the back of his head nervously. “You really think so?”
“You’re a hot teen model, and you’re asking me if I think a girl likes you?” She chuckled, giving him a bewildered look.
“Well, Marinette doesn’t care about that kind of stuff. She looks at the person underneath…It’s just one thing that I like about her.” A warm smile curled on his lips as he entered a dreamy trance, and Kagami made a gagging sound.
“Okay, I don’t need all the gushy details, but I don’t think you have anything to worry about.” She waved it away, sticking her tongue out in disgust. “Just be your usual self, and I’m sure everything will go fine.”
“Thanks, Kagami.” Adrien grinned, taking her hand and pulling her up with him. “I’m really glad you and I became friends.”
“Yeah, me too.” She returned the smile, stepping in for a quick hug. “Good luck.”
“Thanks.” He stepped back, his grin taking a playful turn. “And if you ever need advice you can come to me.”
“Gross.” She pressed her lips into a firm line, waving as Adrien dashed off.
That boy really was something, but she was happy for him and Marinette. They’d be good for each other, and she couldn’t wait to tell the other girls the news.
***
The dance was still an hour away, and Adrien trailed his thumb along his lucky charm as he often did when nervous. The band had rehearsed a few times then took a break to help set up, and he was just ready for Marinette to get there. He couldn’t wait to see her and tell her how he felt, but the timing had to be just right. If he wanted to impress her, he needed to pull out all the stops, so purrhaps he needed to borrow a little confidence from his other persona. Though he couldn’t be too Chat-like as it might give away his identity. Plus, he didn’t want to overwhelm her and make her uncomfortable.
“Whatcha got there?” He jumped at the sound of Luka’s voice and turned to see him tuning his guitar on stage.
“Oh, this?” He jingled the charm a little. “It’s a lucky charm that Marinette gave me. I carry it with me wherever I go.”
“That girl is so awesome. I’ve wanted to see her again ever since the music festival, but she hasn’t come by.” Luka’s cheeks flushed a little, and Adrien narrowed his eyes. “I can’t wait to see her tonight. I was actually thinking about asking her to dance, but I dunno…I don’t go to school here, so it might be a little weird. What do you think?”
Adrien felt his stomach clench, an unsettling feeling rooting itself in his core. Something about Luka’s smile made his shoulders tense, and he closed his fist around the charm tightly. Of course someone else would like Marinette. She was talented and kind and wonderful, but Luka barely knew her. He had only just scratched the surface of how genuine, selfless, and smart she was, so Adrien wasn’t about to let him get in the way.
As he opened his mouth to speak, Rose called for Luka to come help them set up the sound system, so he clamped it shut again as Luka walked away. It was fine. He’d known Marinette way longer, and they were very good friends. He had nothing to worry about. What did Luka have to offer? Sure he was older, taller, his voice was deeper, and he was the lead guitarist in a bad…
Oh no.
Luka was literally every 14 year old girl’s dream, and he was just the keyboard player. No girls ever wanted to hang around the keyboard player! Why was he so lame? He needed to step up his game if he wanted to be the one confessing to Marinette at the end of the night. First and foremost, he had to find a way to keep Luka away from Marinette, and to do that, he was going to need help.
“Kagami!” He ambushed her the moment she walked in the door, grabbing her arm and pulling her aside. “I need your help.”
“No, I am not going to shower you and Marinette with rose petals as you confess,” She said firmly, and Adrien shook his head.
“That is not what I was going to ask.”
“Good, cause I wouldn’t do it.” She glared.
“What- no, I need you to keep Luka away from Marinette,” He said, pressing his palms together in front of him pleadingly.
“Who’s Luka?” Her eyebrows furrowed, and Adrien wrapped an arm around her shoulders, leaning around the corner to point him out on stage. “And why am I keeping him away from Marinette?”
“Because he’s cool, and he plays guitar, and he likes her, and I don’t want him to make moves on her because then she’ll fall in love with him and forget all about me. Adrien? Who is that? Never heard of him. Luka and I are getting married and having 6 babies and-” Kagami placed a hand over his mouth to silence him, giving him a worried look. “Sorry. Just keep him distracted?”
“Fine, but I don’t work for free,” She said, folding her arms over her chest.
“What do you want?” He cocked a brow.
“I’ve been craving taiyaki like crazy, but it’s impossible to find red bean paste in Paris, and the shipping to import it is ridiculous-”
“Done.” Adrien held out a hand, and Kagami shook it with a grin.
“Then you don’t have to worry about a thing. I’ll keep him far away from Marinette, and the two of you can dance the night away,” Kagami promised with a formal bow.
“Perfect.” He rubbed his hands together, blending into the crowd forming out on the floor.
There was no sign of Marinette yet, but it was still early. If he knew her well enough, she’d come running in late and out of breath like she always did. Which did buy him some time to think of how to confess to her. He’d rehearsed several different deliveries in his mind the night before, but he couldn’t decide which one was best. He supposed that he would just have to follow his heart in the moment.
“Hey, Adrien, we’re getting set up for our performance,” Ivan said, tapping his shoulder.
“Oh, y-yeah sure.” He took one last glance at the door before joining the rest of the band by the stage. Marinette was running unusually late, even for her. Any longer and she’d miss their performance.
He glanced at Luka, chatting with Ivan and Mylene, and felt his skin crawl. He knew he was just being jealous, but he couldn’t bear to lose Marinette now. She was incredible and supportive, and he’d already taken too long with Ladybug before. This time he just wanted to be upfront, and it seemed as if fate was pulling him away from anyone he showed the slightest bit of interest in. Didn’t he deserve to be happy too?
“Hey, Marinette!” Rose said as she approached with Alya, and Adrien’s head snapped up at the mention of her name.
“Hey!” Marinette greeted, stooping to exchange kisses.
She looked beautiful in her hand-made dress with her hair hanging loosely around her shoulders, and Adrien felt a tug at his heart strings the moment he laid eyes on her. Her smile was so radiant, and he could have stared all night if it weren’t for the boy standing next to him. Luka seemed to perk up in light of her presence too, but Adrien beat him to the punch.
“Hey, Marinette.” She turned to him with a smile, and he planted a kiss on each of her cheeks. “Glad you could make it.”
“Are you guys ready to perform?” She asked.
“Yeah, we’ve been practicing all week,” Ivan affirmed with a grin. “And we’ve toned back the volume so you won’t need ear plugs this time.”
“I think you’ll really like this first song,” Luka spoke up finally, and Marinette train her eyes on him much to Adrien’s annoyance. “I was thinking of you when I wrote the guitar part. Your bravery inspired me after you helped out when my mom was akumatized.”
Marinette’s cheeks flushed as the others cooed in unison, and Adrien’s anger only flared hotter. This guy was good. Really good. Adrien was going to have to try a lot harder if he hoped to win her over.
“I-It was nothing. I mean, akumas happen all the time, so I guess I’m used to it,” She stammered, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ears. “Besides, I couldn’t just sit back and do nothing while you all were trapped down there.”
Her modesty was extremely cute considering she never took compliments with a straight face, but she deserved to know how amazing she was; however, Adrien wasn’t about to let Luka snake his way in so easily. He’d known her longer, so he appreciated her way more than Luka ever could. It was time to turn up the charm.
“Marinette is always helping others. She has a heart of gold,” He added, placing a hand on her shoulder. “I think we’re all lucky to be her friends.”
“Definitely!” Rose echoed, and the others all nodded in agreement.
“You guys, I really don’t do that much.” She rubbed the back of her neck, and Adrien slid his hand down her arm to take her hand.
“You do. There are times when all of us could have been akumatized, sometimes for the second time, but you were there to help us. You’re always so positive and supportive, Marinette.” Her spine stiffened under his fond gaze, and she shifted her weight anxiously.
“I-I, uh, well, it’s not, I mean- I don’t, you-” She seemed to have become over stimulated again, so he gave her hand a reassuring squeeze.
“Wow, seems like you’re even more incredible than I thought. I guess I’ll be writing more songs in the future,” Luka said with a smile, and Marinette sputtered a few more incoherent syllables before Mlle. Bustier announced that it was time for their performance.
Adrien forced his shoulders to relax as his band mates all retreated to the stage, but he lingered a moment, placing his hands on her shoulders.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to work you up. I just really think you deserve every word of praise. Just relax and enjoy the show, okay?” He said with a warm smile that reflected on her own face after a moment.
“Um, break a leg,” She said as he backed toward the stairs.
“I’ll be fine so long as I have this.” He held up his lucky charm with a wink as Rose announced their name to the crowd, turning and making the last couple strides to his keyboard quickly.
Alya wrapped an arm around Marinette’s shoulders as the song started, and she leaned against her for support. Her legs felt like gelatin, and her face was hot and flushed. Her compass was spinning wildly out of control, and she had no idea how to stop it. Each time she looked at Luka, her heart sputtered in her chest, but when she looked at Adrien, her palms felt clammy and her breath hitched in her throat, making it hard to breathe. The two boys she could hardly function around in one place, showering her with compliments. She wasn’t sure what exactly she’d done to deserve it, but she was almost certain that she was in heaven.
“Any idea which one you prefer yet?” Alya asked in her ear, and she shook her head.
“Maybe I can decide tonight,” She replied, cupping her hands over her heart. “I mean, Adrien said all of those things about me and still carries my lucky charm, but I know he only sees me as a friend. And Luka wrote a song about me…I don’t know, Alya!”
She buried her face in her friend’s shirt, and Alya patted her back sympathetically. She’d just have to spend time with both of them and figure out who she wanted to be with more. The only problem with that plan was the whole spending time with both of them without foaming at the mouth part.
“I’ll help you. Whenever you want to talk to Luka alone, I’ll distract Adrien and vice versa,” Alya said, patting her shoulders. “Okay?”
“Okay.” Marinette nodded, pressing her lips together in a firm line.
“So, who should we start with?” Alya cocked a brow, and they shifted their gaze to the boys on the stage.
“I haven’t seen Luka since the music festival last month, so it would be nice to catch up with him,” She decided, and Alya nodded dutifully.
“Perfect. I’ll rope Nino into helping keep Adrien occupied. You go after your dark knight.” The two high-fived, ready to spring into action the moment the performance was over.
It was hard for Marinette to keep her focus throughout the song as Luka often stole coy glances at her as he played, and she felt her cheeks flush each time their eyes met. He’d written a song just for her…That meant he liked her, right? But then there was Adrien, who smiled and winked any time she glanced his way, and he seemed to be getting much friendlier with her lately too. Could she be imagining it all? She wasn’t entirely certain, but she did know that both of these boys made her heart stir. This was going to be harder than she thought.
“Thank you, everyone!” Rose cheered over the mic, and Alya tugged Marinette’s arm, snapping her out of her trance as they moved around to meet the band as they exited the stage.
“Hey, Adrien,” Alya started as he descended the stairs. “Can you help me and Nino with something really quick?”
“Uh, now?” He shifted his gaze between Marinette and Alya, eyebrows furrowing.
“Yeah, it’ll just take like two seconds.” She waved it away, linking her arm through his and toting him off.
“O-kay?” Adrien turned back to see Luka approach Marinette, feeling his stomach flip nervously. Whatever it was that Alya needed, he needed to do it fast.
“You sounded awesome. I mean, the band sounded awesome, well, I- you sounded awesome too, but what I meant to say was-” Marinette fumbled, and Luka chuckled good-naturedly.
“You’re tongue-tied as ever, I see, Ma-Ma-Marinette,” He said with an amused grin. “I should teach you how to play guitar. Then we can communicate without words.”
“Yeah, totally! I’d like that.” Her cheeks darkened under her nervous smile, and Luka rubbed the back of his neck.
“Uh, so this is where you go to school?” He glanced around the courtyard, and Marinette followed his gaze.
“Oh, uh, yeah. Every day.” She nodded, clasping her hands together to keep them from fidgeting. “I’m actually class representative.”
“I remember Juleka mentioning that. She was happy when you ran instead of…Chloe?” He tilted his head to the side a little, and Marinette nodded in affirmation. “I think it’s brave of you to stand up to her like that. Your classmates must really respect you, especially if you’re always helping them out like Adrien said.”
“I just try to keep everyone positive. With Hawkmoth making akumas all the time, it’s important that we not let our emotions get the better of us…” Her voice trailed off under Luka’s warm smile, and she averted her gaze, twirling a strand of hair anxiously. “So, what about you? You’re in lycee, right?”
“Yeah, second year.”
Meanwhile, Adrien stood across the courtyard with his arms folded over his chest as Nino and Alya explained their “thing” to him. He kept stealing glances back at Marinette and Luka flirting like their lives depended on it and feeling his shoulders tense more and more. Kagami was chatting with some of their teammates, and Adrien waved his arm to catch her attention, pointing purposefully at the Luka-Marinette situation happening. She followed his finger and rolled her eyes, nodding her head in agreement to take care of it before politely excusing herself to get more juice.
“So, uh, yeah, the thing that I need you to do is help me rewire my set up. It’s all kind of a mess, and I need your help,” Nino explained, gesturing to the tangled cords underneath his turntable.
“Is this really necessary right now? I mean, your set up works, right?” He cocked a skeptical brow.
“Well, yeah, but it would be super awesome if you could help me to-”
“Hey, Max?” Adrien turned and flagged him down from the snack table with Kim. “Nino needs some help organizing his cables. Do you think you could help?”
“Excellent! I always love a good organizing project.” Max rubbed his hands together excitedly, and Adrien patted his shoulder.
“There you go, Nino. Have fun!” He finger gunned, backing away slowly.
“But we really need you-” Alya tried, but he was already gone.
Across the way, Marinette was loosening up, and she and Luka were engrossed in a conversation about the album Marinette designed for Jagged Stone. As it turned out, Luka was just as awkward as she was at times, so it made her feel a lot more confident speaking to him.
Kagami eyed the pair with pursed lips, casually sauntering over without looking until she collided with Luka, spilling her drink down his shirt.
“Oh, I’m so sorry!” She gasped, cupping a hand over her mouth before linking an arm through his and leading him off. “Here, let me help you get cleaned up.”
“Okay, no worries,” He said, glancing over his shoulder. “I’ll be back in a minute.”
Marinette waved him on with an understanding nod, jumping a little at the tap on her shoulder.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you,” Adrien said, and she felt her spine stiffen under his apologetic wince.
“N-No, it’s okay,” She insisted, waving frantically. “So, you guys sounded really great up there.”
“Thanks. Being in the band is a lot of fun. You should come hear us rehearse sometime,” He said, shoving his hands in his pockets. “I mean, I’d like it if you would.”
“I’d love to. If I wouldn’t be in the way, that is,” She said, twirling her thumbs.
“No, not at all! Mylene comes to hang out all the time because Ivan is there, so if you wanted to come hang out for me then I’m sure everyone wouldn’t mind,” He assured her, surveying her reaction, seemingly pleased when she smiled brightly.
“Then I’ll have to stop by sometime,” She agreed, and he felt a slight wave of triumph.
“So, you and Luka seem to get along,” He said, fishing a little.
“Do you think so? He’s really sweet, but I can never get my words right around him.” She rubbed the back of her neck, and he pursed his lips.
“Does he make you uncomfortable?” He asked, cocking a brow, but she shook her head.
“No, it’s not that. I just get nervous because he’s older and I dunno, kind cool…” She twisted her dress in knots, and he masked his scowl before she could notice.
“Yeah, it’s a shame he’ll be graduating and moving on after next year.” He pursed his lips and shrugged.
“That’s true…”She seemed to deflate a little, so Adrien steered the conversation.
“But at least we’ll still have each other,” He said with a shrug, and she perked up again to his delight.
“I hope we’re in the same class again in lycee.” Her smile made his heart stir a little, and he felt himself blush, delighted that she wanted to remain close to him. Of course, she was his friend so it was to be expected, but it was still nice to hear nonetheless.
“Me too.” He glanced up as a slow song started over the speakers, a grin spreading across his lips as he took her hand. “Would you like to dance?”
“I- Y-Yeah.” She nodded, and he tugged her off to the dance floor where other couples were gathering.
He spotted Luka exiting the locker rooms and purposefully pulled her close, placing both of his hands on her waist as they began to sway with the music. Marinette seemed to stiffen a little but soon relaxed enough to lean her head against his shoulder, and Adrien held her close, heart hammering in his chest. It almost felt like a dream, but for once, he was lucky enough for it to be real. For a few short moments, everyone else in the room disappeared, and he and Marinette were the only ones dancing. He only wished that the moment could last forever, but all good things had to come to an end sometime.
“Um, you’re a great dancer,” She said timidly as the song changed.
“So are you.” He smiled warmly. “Do you want to get some fresh air with me for a few minutes?”
“Sure.”
Everything was going according to plan, and in just a few minutes, Marinette would forget all about Luka. Or rather, things were going well until a certain guitarist approached quickly, standing between them and the door.
“Oh, hey, Luka,” Marinette said with a smile, and Adrien noted the contemplative purse to his lips. “Did you get cleaned up okay?”
“Yeah, it’s fine. Actually, Marinette, I think Alya was looking for you.” He said, crossing his arms over his chest and casting a pointed look at Adrien who bristled instinctively. “It sounded pretty important, you should go find her.”
“Really?” She tilted her head to the side. “I better go see what she needs. I’ll meet you outside, Adrien.”
“Uh, sure…” He nodded, swallowing hard as she walked away, leaving him alone with Luka. “Soo, the performance went well.”
“Yeah, it did.” Luka nodded curtly.
“I think the crowd really liked it, and Ivan’s drum solo was the best he’s ever-”
“Can we talk about how your friend has been trying to distract me from talking to Marinette while you monopolize her attention?” Luka asked boldly, and Adrien felt his gut clench.
“I- what do you mean?” He responded lamely.
“I didn’t think much of it at first, but she kept giving me the run around then I see you dancing with Marinette…If there’s something going on between you two, you could have just told me.” Luka’s gaze cut through him like a knife, and Adrien curled his shoulders a little in response.
“I- Look, the thing is…I was planning on telling Marinette how I feel about her tonight, and you seem to like her too, so-”
“So, you just decided to cut me out instead of talking to me?” He cocked a brow. “Do you even know if Marinette reciprocates your feelings?’
Adrien averted his gaze guiltily, and Luka let out a short laugh.
“You don’t. That’s why you’re worried about me,” He stated flatly.
“It’s nothing personal, Luka. I just really like her-”
“Last time we talked, she was just a friend to you.” Luka cut him off.
“Well, yeah, we’ve been friends for a long time. Longer than you’ve known her, and I just feel like I know her better so I should get to be with her.” Adrien felt his blood boil when Luka shook his head, hands clenching into fists at his sides.
“That’s not for you to decide, Adrien,” He said, folding his arms over his chest. “Have you ever stopped to consider what Marinette might want or were you too busy thinking of yourself?”
“I-” His voice caught in his throat, a heavy pressure filling his chest and choking his air.
“Jealousy happens, Adrien, but you can’t make choices for other people. Tell her your feelings, fine, but then let her decide what she really wants,” Luka said firmly, and he felt his shoulders slump before he shifted his gaze to his feet.
“I’m sorry. You’re right, I was only thinking about what I wanted, and…that’s not fair to you or Marinette.” He rubbed at the goose bumps on his arm. “So, if you want to dance with her then…go ahead.”
Luka surveyed his expression for a moment before a smile curled on his lips, and he patted Adrien’s shoulder. “Look, don’t beat yourself up too hard. You’re young and inexperienced. Just let this be a lesson for you, and no matter who she chooses, me, you, or even neither of us…no hard feelings.”
“Yeah, no hard feelings.” He nodded with an apologetic wince, but Luka extended a hand in good faith which Adrien shook after a moment of hesitation.
“I won’t tell Marinette about tonight, but I think you should do some soul searching and decide what you want on your conscience,” Luka said, leaning into his ear. “You’re a good kid, Adrien, and if I know anything about Marinette, it’s that she appreciates honesty.”
Adrien swallowed at the lump in his throat as Luka straightened, and Marinette paced back over with a bewildered expression.
“It was weird, Alya didn’t know what I was talking about when I asked what she wanted,” She said, gesturing back with her thumb.
“Oh, weird. Maybe it was someone else then.” Luka tapped his chin as another slow song came on, and he and Adrien exchanged glances. With a deep breath, Adrien gave him a nod, and Luka extended a hand to Marinette. “Would you like to dance with me?”
“Oh…” She glanced at Adrien guiltily, but he waved it away.
“I’ll be fine. You go ahead,” He said, watching with tortured eyes as Luka led her away from him, and slowly, he turned and made his way out to the front steps.
His heart hammered in his chest as he sank down onto one of the steps and leaned his elbows on his knees. Luka had seen right through him, and Adrien had never been so ashamed. He had been selfish and jealous, and it ate at him from the inside out.
Marinette was so important to him, and all he wanted was to hold her tight and never let go. But he hadn’t stopped to consider that maybe that wasn’t what she wanted. Or maybe he did, and the thought was just so unbearable that he wanted desperately to prevent it. Either way, it wasn’t fair to anyone involved. If she wanted to be with Luka then Adrien would have to begrudgingly accept it, even if it did break his heart.
“We got caught.” The voice belonged to Kagami, and he turned to see her sitting down beside him, adjusting her dress purposefully. “That Luka is one perceptive dude.”
“Yeah, looks like he outsmarted us,” Adrien remarked glumly.
“You okay?” She cocked a brow and nudged him a little with her elbow.
“Not really. My heart hurts, and I was trying to control Marinette which is wrong. Maybe she is better off with Luka.” He kicked at the ground a little with his shoe, and Kagami pursed her lips.
“So, you’re not perfect. Big whoop, I could have told you that.” Adrien glanced up at her to find that teasing smile. “People make mistakes, but that doesn’t mean they stop deserving love. Isn’t that what Mlle. Bustier teaches? That’s why all of us put up with Chloe, right?”
Adrien chuckled at that. “Yeah, I guess you’re right.”
“Look, I shouldn’t tell you this, but…Marinette likes you. And I mean likes you likes you, but she also likes Luka. If you want her to choose you, then you just have to be your usual naïve little sunshine boy self and let her decide.” She placed a hand on his shoulder. “You’re a good person, Adrien. You just got jealous, and Marinette has a big heart. I’m sure she can relate more than you think. I mean, she was actually jealous of me when I came here because she thought you were going to fall in love with me.”
“Really?” His eyebrows raised in surprise.
“Yes, but she knows that your heart is your own, and she just determined to keep trying her best to get you to notice her,” Kagami said, and he shifted his gaze back to his shoes. “Talk to her. Tell her how you feel, and I’m sure she’ll understand.”
“Thanks, Kagami.” He smiled. “You’re a good friend.”
“Don’t go falling for me. Because you’re so not my type.” She winked, and he threw his head back with a laugh.
“Nah, if I’m being honest, you kind of scare me…” He admitted.
“Good. It keeps you on your toes.” She patted his shoulder. “By the way, I come with an advice fee, so you owe me so many imported goods.”
“Pfft, fair enough,” He chuckled. “Can I open a tab?”
“Yeah, but you better start paying or else I’ll have to beat you up.” She grinned devilishly, helping him to his feet.
“Don’t you already?” He asked.
“Yeah, but this time it won’t be with a saber.” She shrugged, and he linked his arm through hers with a laugh.
He glanced over to where Marinette was swaying to the beat with Luka, a content smile curled on her lips, and felt his stomach twist, but she looked happy so it wasn’t his place to interfere. If he wanted to win her over, he’d just have to turn up the charm and let her choose on her own. He could only hope that it would be him holding on to her in the end.

Around midnight Cat Noir entered through the open window of the bathroom from his room and he got out of there heading to his bed, where he spotted Kagami sleeping and his little sibling lied next to her resting too, then the blonde lied down next to the girls, then destransformed back into the civilian form and groaned, waking the little girl up, which saw the brother and embraced the adult making him smile and pull her into his chest.
„Hey little lady“ Adrien greeted caressing his sister on the back. „Shouldn‘t you be sleeping in your own bed?“
„I wanted to see, if you would come back safe“ Hope responded as her brother lied her back between him and his girlfriend.
„We superheroes will always help each other. There‘s no way someone will take us down“ The blonde assured giving the girl a peck on the forehead. „Come go back to your room, your big bro is very tired,“ The brother noticed, then Hope lied back on the bed on the same spot as before.
„But Kagami allowed me“ Hope countered earning a nod from the blonde, which lied down on the bed nodding at the girl, which smiled at the man and closed her eyes. Adrien smiled a little at seeing the girl then he heard something land on their bedcovers and he looked down to see the kitten Shadow walk over the covers and lie himself down between the space of his and Kagami‘s legs. Adrien shrugged his shoulders and took one last look on his sister before he lied down to sleep.
„Goodnight“ Adrien wished the girl.
On the other side of Paris, Nathaniel walked up the stairs entering into the bedroom, where his wife Lila lied. Nathaniel sat down on the bed next to her, then began to pull out his shirt, while yawning afterward he dropped his shirt on the top of the bedcover, then Lila moved in the interior of it and opened her eyes to see her husband there.
„Nathy“ Lila spoke passing her index finger across his spine making him shiver, then he looked down at his wife to see her smile.
„Hi pumpkin“ Nathaniel greeted. „You‘re not asleep yet?“
„I got thirsty Nathaniel“ Lila mentioned making Nathaniel chuckle.
„Want some water?“ Nathaniel asked making Lila shake her head. „What do you wish?“
„A milkshake“ Lila answered. „A big one“
„aoy vey,“ Nathaniel wailed and got up from his bed to pick up his smartphone. „You know I have to make this right now“
„I‘ll be waiting, “ Lila said sitting up on the bed earning a nod from Nathaniel.
„Well, it says the recipe is easy so I say…..maybe in ten…..fifteen minutes I‘m done“ Nathaniel mentioned. „Uh have we got strawberries?“ Nathaniel asked.
„UH I think not“ Lila answered making Nathaniel sigh.
„Welp looks like I have to get them first, “ Nathaniel said picking up his shirt again. „Now that I‘m going to the 24h store, is there anything we need, or you?“
„If there are sweet potatoes, those would be appreciated. I heard it‘s healthy to eat it during pregnancy“
„I see if there is some“ Nathaniel said picking up his wallet, that lied on the commode of their bedroom. „I will have a quick stop down at the kitchen for Karaa to charge her energies“
„Sure baby“ Lila answered watching her husband leave followed by his kwami, that flew behind his head.
On the next morning Adrien along with Fernando picked together with a pitchfork mown grass into a wheelbarrow, they were sharing together. Adrien stomped with his fork on the grass over the wheelbarrow to give it more space, then Fernando dropped a bunch of mown over the wheelbarrow, then stung his pitchfork on the earth to grab the vehicle and along with Adrien, the two walked across the field back to a farm, where a police officer stood watching the female farmer bring out from her house a freshly baked bread to place it on a table which had knives and a few sorts of butter and marmalade shared over the table.
„Are they self-made?“ The officer asked earning a nod from the woman.
„Yes, they are“ The woman answered. „The marmalade is made by my kids. The butter is from my farm“
„Nice“ The officer mentioned, then saw a few of the group arrive to sit down on the table. „Go ahead boys and girls, farmer Juni‘s house-made bread and butter awaits you“
„Mmh it smells tasty“ A man complimented making the woman smile seeing a man starting to cut down a slice of the bread, then he continued and shared it with the people around his table.
„Hey Nando, Adrien, take a seat next to me“ Kim offered, then the two sat down next to the raven-haired man and the two picked up their slice of bread to put butter on it.
„How are you doing?“ Adrien asked his old classmate. „I‘ve heard about the fire at the Grand Paris“
„Fine“ Kim answered. „We overnighted at another hotel, which Chloé‘s mom owns too. But it‘s tragic, what happened.
„How did it come to the fire?“
„I don‘t know it exactly“ Kim answered. „I heard it had something to do with the kitchen having gas stoves instead of induction cookers“
„Okay, I didn‘t know that“ Adrien answered, then noticed on the other side of the table Raiden putting his airpods on then pressed on the home button of his smartphone to look for something. „I wonder if he heard anything about yesterday“
„I think he doesn‘t know anyone from there“ Kim pointed out earning a nod from the blonde.
Raiden was on the superhero blog, which was founded by the former high school student Alix Kubdel passing through several unopened video clips of the superheroes, then he opened one, where he saw on the cover the two superheroes Miss Vixen and Ryuko on a mother‘s day even from one year ago. Raiden pressed on the play symbol to open the video to see the heroines being interviewed by the journalist.
„River Langerak here life at the champs de mars, where many of the mothers were invited by their kids to participate on this special tournament sponsored by Gabriel, Wayhem, Mikado Catering, D‘Argencourt academy and other famous sponsors to make this day special for the moms and for their children“ The brunette journalist proclaimed on the shot, then looked back behind her, where the two superheroines Miss Vixen and Ryuko stood waiting for their turn on the microphone. „Miss Vixen, what do you think about this occasion specifically made for the kids and their mothers?“
„It‘s a sweet idea, River“ Miss Vixen answered while Ryuko nodded.
„Despite this being for kids only, would you two like to see this also for adults and above?“
„Yeah, I would find lit, if even the adults or any other people for that matter could also when possible enjoy this day here. But I think for the other‘s that won‘t be important as long as they‘re with their mother together“
„Do you agree Ryuko?“ River asked earning a nod from the blue-haired superheroine.
„I do“ Ryuko answered. „But you should never just show your love or admiration for your parents on specific days. You should do it always, cause you won‘t always know, what happens the next day“ Ryuko recited earning a nod from the journalist.
„Very wise words, Ryuko“
„This Ryuko looks familiar to me“ Raiden mumbled holding his hand under his chin, then swiped to the next video, which was older and on the clip was Super Nathan together with Viperion and Honey Bee.
„It‘s the 56th time you supers had to deal with Mr. Pigeon. How does it feel for you to defeat the same villain over and over again?“ Mrs. Langerak asked holding the microphone at the three superheroes, then Viperion chuckled along with Super Nathan about the question.
„Well...I really don‘t know, what to answer“ Viperion confessed. „It has usually been the same routine with him“
Raiden fast-forwarded the video to the end of it, then looked again around the blog for other videos finding another one with Ryuko, Cat Noir and Viperion. Raiden pressed on the play button to show Cat Noir standing by the stairs of a building along with a short woman with black hair, next to a boy with the same hair color.
„His akumatization made me think of my third time“ Ryuko spoke standing in front of Cat Noir along with Viperion, then a male journalist interrupted the two superheroes with questions for the news.
„Viperion, Ryuko a short reportage of this case, may I?“ The man asked earning a nod from the two.
„Dägé‘s mainly motivation was to protect his best friend from people in real life, that could hurt her feelings in anyways like a heartbreak, friendships, or even familiar cases. To our luck, his best friend managed to talk with him about it and we took care of the akuma right after it“ Viperion explained the man.
„According to eye-witnesses he had gotten akumatized, because someone broke the girl friends heart?“
„Did you catch it?“ Viperion asked earning a nod from Ryuko.
„He was seen phoning with her on the park and during the call he seemed very depressed until an akuma came and turned him into a supervillain“ Ryuko answered then behind her Cat Noir tapped on her shoulder and pointed down at the raven-haired boy having his forehead leaned on the girl‘s whispering something in their language, making Ryuko smile.
„Very interesting, how normal does it seem, when after an akumatization the one or other person realized the other person‘s feelings for one?“ The man asked making Cat Noir shrug his shoulders.
„I haven‘t paid attention to those details, but as long as I‘m around I caught this for about five times“ Cat Noir answered gazing at Ryuko, which winked at him.
Raiden widened his eyes at listening to Cat Noir‘s voice, then rolled them at Adrien, which was on the other end of the table, and removed one of the earplugs to listen to Adrien talking.
„They had this list of people that should be hated for having a different opinion. I left the group because it turned out into something no one seems to see it“ Adrien spoke to the man in front of him and Raiden pulled the line on his phone back to start the part of Cat Noir again.
„I haven‘t paid attention to those details, but as long as I‘m around I caught this for about five times“ Cat Noir answered gazing at Ryuko, which winked at him.
„Major of those users are just superficial jerks. No one pays so many attention to details no one cares about“
„I haven‘t paid attention to those details, but as long as I‘m around I caught this for about five times“
„Just get out of there as soon as you can‘t and block them“
„I haven‘t paid attention to those details, but as long as I‘m around I caught this for about five times“
„I‘ve done this a lot, makes everything better“ Adrien assured and Raiden listened another time to the voice of Cat Noir and shook his head.
„This must be a coincidence“ Raiden mumbled. „I don‘t think they look that alike“ Raiden hold his phone next to Adrien‘s head to check the details noticing from his chin up to the nose it was just like Adrien‘s and he thought about Adrien telling him the number of information of the miraculouses. „But he was able to tell a lot about the superheroes and…..“ Raiden opened the Facestargram app and typed down Kagami‘s full name landing on a list filled with many persons with the same name and he clicked the first profile, which had shown her to be in the French capital living and as he opened it he saw, that it was the Kagami Tsurugi he wanted to look for and he opened her profile picture, where she was leaning towards a wall in her fencing suit and held her saber with the point down at the ground looking up at the sky. Raiden zoomed into the picture and screenshotted it, then switched back to the video to zoom into Ryuko‘s face to picture it. Afterward, he entered into the gallery and opened the picture of Ryuko, then added Kagami‘s to it and expanded it to compare them and shrieked at the resemblances of the blue-haired persons. „That‘s impossible“ Raiden murmured quietly observing Adrien laugh at one of his friend‘s comments.
„That‘s just pointless“ Adrien stated making Kim and Fernando laugh.
Raiden kept his eyes on Adrien, then next to him a teenager offered him, honey, then he shrieked at her offer, but took it and used it to spread it over his slice of bread glancing back at the blonde, which picked up a glass filled with dark coffee and Kim had poured out into his cup milk from the vase.
