Watched the MLB movie finally! While I had a few Notes, all in all I enjoyed it, the animation was so pretty and I was really impressed how they condensed so much stuff into one movie
#like sure they changed stuff and moved stuff around#and things were left out (for a possible sequel?)#but as an adaptation it's pretty good i think#if they had tried to cram anything more into One Movie it would've ended up a jumbled mess#i think they made a good choice in doing the origin story and the hawkmoth plot as the main things#and have other adventures as a montage of the heroes growing closer as time goes on#and i feel like marinette was written better than in the show imo#sure it's been a while since i've watched the show so idk what's going on there right now but still#my only Notes tm for the moment are basically how adrien got the ring and how adrinette met#and that's about it#like we should 100% have been SHOWN Why adrien was chosen too and not just Have The Ring Show Up you know?#and i personally really liked the origin story of adrinette being marinette not caring about adrien's money or looks or status#and kind of being like :/// about him because she thinks he's a rich douche#but then finding out how KIND that boy is and THEN starting to fall for him#the movie version was Fine i guess but i would've liked to see the 'oh shit he's actually super nice i was wrong'#it was just so basic 'girl meets boy and falls in love' meet cute and while there isn't anything WRONG with that.. idk#it's just more boring than 'dude you kinda suck - except holy shit you don't? you're really nice?? oh no'#and it made marinette's crush seem different from how everyone fawns over adrien because of his status#otherwise though? can't really think of much to complain about#the songs were a Surprise for sure but i personally didn't mind them i love movie musicals#however there were a bit too many of them maybe? or idk#maybe the songs could've been tweaked a bit to stand out more imo but that's probably more a me thing than anything#hawkmoth's song slapped though lol#i was basically like ??????????? and :DDD at the same time (positive)#also i laughed so fucking hard at the end screen cut lmaooo#anyyyway i'm probably gonna reblog gifsets now bc man the animation was prettyyy#personal#miraculous ladybug#mlb movie

I requested your assistance, I want to use the Peacock Miraculous and give Marinette her own Sentimonster that would be a Robin. And it will protect Marinette from those who want to cause her harm (Mainly the robin would teleport people to a different time, and when the punishment ment is done they come back in what seems like seconds for everyone else would be 18 years for the other)

.....
Alfred was not happy. Miss Marinette was being mistreated by her so called 'friends' and not even her teacher was helping her.
'Well I guess it's time to take matters into my own hands.'
.....
Marinette couldn't help but feel anger and sadness at the same time. Lila had made up even more lies, this time about her long-distance boyfriend Damian.
After the class touched down in Gotham for their class trip, Marinette couldn't help feeling excited to see her boyfriend. Then, that Lie-la girl, made something up about how she was an old family friend of the Wayne's and how she was dating the youngest, Damian, Marinette's boyfriend.
.....
When the class was visiting the Wayne Building, where Marinette had made plans to meet up with Damian, they started whispering to eachother about how maybe they'd actually meet a Wayne.
Of course, Lila, ever protecting her reputation said, "Of course not, they're very important people. In fact, tonight, to apologise for not being able to meet up today, they're hosting a magnificent party for me."
Of course everyone took the bait and started fawning over Lila. They were so engrossed in Lila's lies they didn't notice Marinette walk up to a vaguely familiar boy.
They greeted eachother warmly, as if they knew eachother for years, which they did.
Lila noticed this exchange and loudly asked Marinette, "Oh, Mari, who's your friend? He looks familiar, do you know the Wayne's? We must have met at a party of theirs."
Marinette's friend smirked, "I guess you could say that." Before turning to Marinette, "I'll see you around, Angel. Invite your friends." He gave her a kiss and walked away.
The girls in the class were squealing at Marinette, excited that she finally got over her crush on Adrien.
Lila, of course, did not like Marinette taking the attention away from her.
.....
The class were ready in their best clothes, standing outside of Wayne Manor. Lila looking slightly nervous, as she didn't actually know the Wayne's, but Marinette did by extention and could easily disprove her lies any second.
Lila, as confidently as she could knocked on the door. An older gentle opened the door, looked right passed Lila and onto Marinette, "Oh, Miss Marinette, you have arrived! I shall escort you and your friends to the coat room."
Marinette smiled, "Merci, Alfred. How have your new recipes turned out?"
'Alfred' spoke almost jovially, "Most magnificent, miss. I must thank your parents next time I see them."
Lila realised this was her moment, "Oh, Marinette, getting friendly with the help, I see. So you obviously don't know the Wayne's as much as you said you did. Why would you lie to us, Mari, I thought we were friends."
Marinette's class sans Chloe (who refused to come in the first place) started glaring, 'How could she lie to us?'
As Alfred was about to speak up, Marinette sent a subtle gesture his way to tell him to stop. Marinette played dumb, "I don't know what you're talking about Lila, I never said I knew the Wayne's. You must have misheard."
Alfred, although suspicious of the liar, let them into the house.
As soon as she entered, the Vaguely Familiar Boy from earlier greeted Marinette and her class. The class obviously still hadn't figured out who he was, yet.
"Please, help yourselves to solve food. Mr. Wayne will begin his speech soon and then the party will officially start."
Adrien, who was quiet the whole time, pulled Marinette to the side and asked her, "What are you planning? I thought we agreed to not do anything to Lila?"
Marinette glared, "You might have, but I didn't. And who said I was planning anything?"
She pulled her arm out of his grasp and made her way to the crowd surrounding a certain Bruce Wayne.
He began his speech, "Thank you all for coming, especially those who come all the way from Paris, France. We are here to celebrate my son Damians coming off age. As we all know, I am very strict as to when the media can take pictures of me and my family," the crowd chuckled, "but as Damian is now off age, we would like to officially introduce him to the media."
The few reporters in the crowd, who were specially invited because of their trustworthiness, readied their cameras as Bruce asked his son to appear beside him.
The class gasped as the Vaguely Familiar Boy who had kissed Marinette was revealed to be Damian Wayne. So that's how they recognised him.
Lila however was trying to think of a way to escape, especially since the class would realise soon that Damian definitely wasn't dating her.
But before she could leave, Mr. Wayne had started speaking again, "While we are talking, we would like to thank various people and places for their contribution to this party. The Robinson Bakery for their cakes and baked goods, the Smith Catering team for making all this delicious food, our friend and butler Alfred for helping us set up this whole party and last bit not least one Miss Marinette Dupain-Cheng, who made by hand all of the outfits that my family and I are wearing."
Marinette blushed a bit, especially as her classmates stared at her as of she grew three heads.
But that was not all, Jason, one of Damians older brothers, shouted from the side, "She's also Damians girlfriend!"
That set off a cacophony of noise, classmates asking her if it was true, reporters scrambling to ask Damian to verify the statement and rich folk muttering in confusion as the boy in question had a very much cold personality, that they were sure would push away any potential significant others.
Then suddenly, a scream of 'anguish' broke out, "Oh my Damipoo, how could you? You said you loved me. You gave me a ring!"
Lila, of course. She couldn't let any positive attention go towards Marinette.
This obviously put a full 180 degree spin on things. Her classmates glared at Marinette and Damian, the reporters tried to ask Lila for a further statement and the rich people were still very confused, the boy who was colder than ice had two girls wrapped around his finger?
Marinette feeling extremely overwhelmed and scared, ran off towards another room. What she didn't notice was a feather floating towards her and feed off her emotions.
A small Robin was formed from her fear and vowed, just like the real Robin, to protect her from the cruel in the world. He sat on her shoulder and waited for the inevitable.
The door to the room she was in slammed open and in came Adrien, "I thought you didn't have a plan?! I thought you weren't going to antagonise Lila!"
Marinette could only cry, "I didn't. I didn't know what was going to happen."
Adrien glared at her, "I just want a normal school life! And you have to go be selfish!"
That was the trigger for the sentimonster to react, he flicked his wrist and Adrien was gone, small Robin have him the chance to be kind to Marinette, but because he wasn't, he was sent to another dimension in time where he would learn from his mistakes.
For them it would take only a second for him to reappear, for Adrien, as long as it takes for him to realise he was wrong.
He came back not looking much more than a year or two older but looking like he would have an emotional breakdown. He was sent to 1939 where he learned that being passive could get people hurt. He apologised to Marinette, acknowledging he was in the wrong and went on his way, a shell of his former self.
Most of her classmates came in next, all of whom looked angry at her. The few that were kind in their anger were not sent away, but the rest were sent to the Times of the Reformation where they learned not to believe everything that comes from someone who uses you. They all came back at the same time, yet at different ages some looked to be the same age as when they left while others looked to be in their mid-twenties.
Next, came Alya. She came in with a fury, screaming at her about taking Damian from Lila. Little Robin barely had to think before sending her away to the 1400s Americas, where she learned not to believe people she has never met before over a trusted friend. She came back in her late thirties, the oldest of anyone so far. She begged for forgiveness from Marinette, which she willingly gave.
Soon enough, Lila burst in and started to threaten Marinette. She couldn't even get the first word in, before Little Robin sent her away to Ancient Egypt. There she learnt the importance of telling the truth, although not for a very long time. When she arrived it was in a public square and she appeared out of nowhere, so naturally people assumed she was a goddess, and she didn't correct them, but when she started to age people questioned her godliness. She told the people it was just her preferred form and everything went back to normal.
Soon, though, the Pharaoh became interested in this 'goddess' and wished to marry her, she of course accepted, but as the day came towards her wedding day the Pharaoh asked her to change into a younger form. She promised him she would on the wedding day. She knew she had to leave the city and on the night before her wedding she tried to escape before being caught by the guards.
The Pharaoh realised the woman was not a goddess, like she told him she was, and instead a liar. He sentenced her to death.
Just before her demise she realised how important it was to tell the truth. She arrived back in the room she hadn't been in for years and saw Marinette still young as ever, elle she was in her hands and knees in an old frail body.
Marinette, smiled at her, "I forgive you, Lila."
She helped her walk to the ballroom as Little Robin disappeared, his work was done.
As Marrinette's class saw her walk into the room with an elderly Lila they realised what had happened. It had happened to them as well.
Marinette placed Lila on a chair, before walking over to Damian.
He saw her approaching, "Don't worry I have everything under control. I explained the situation."
She smiled, "So did I. All I wanted was apologies, and with a few years work on their end, I got them."
He raised his brow, "Is that why-"
Marinette couldn't help but kiss him, she had to end on a high, and what a high it was. She hadn't felt as happy in her life, to be in her boyfriend's arms and no longer have the burden of her anger at her classmates.
Suddenly, a bright light, encased the room. All of her classmates who grew older in their time in the past, had changed back into their youthful selves with a new lease of life.
Marinette couldn't believe it, "What? How?"
"Yes, Miraculous isn't it," she and Damian turned to see Alfred, "What true loves kiss can do after a situation with a Miraculous' power. It can reverse almost anything."
"Like the Ladybugs powers?" Marinette asked, blushing at the thought of Damian and herself being eachothers true love.
Alfred smiled, "I would think so, after all a 'Miraculous Ladybug' comes from the love a Ladybug feels for all the people effected by the opposing miraculous. That's why the Ladybug must be good enough to hold all that love in their heart."
With a not so subtle wink Alfred walked off.
Damian smiled and kissed her knuckles, "Well, my true love, shall we dance."
"Yes, we should."
As they danced and looked at eachother lovingly, the rich folk at the party looked even more confused than ever. Maybe even the coldest of hearts can melt.
.....
This was really long, lads, or at least it felt long writing it lol.

The Red In My Eyes
So I finally started the thing I’d been wanting to do for a while. Hopefully this helps my writing bug I’ve been dealing with.
Also check it out >Here on AO3<
Chapter 1: The Fox & The Ladybug
Ladybugs were a symbol of luck. They represented the embodiment of prosperity and good fortune.
Foxes were a sign of stealth and cleverness. It is quite tricky to fool a fox because of their intelligence and determination.
This all should have been obvious to Marinette. These were facts of life. But that didn’t change the fact that Alya was standing in Marinette’s living room, pointing a finger at her and declaring loudly.
“You’re Ladybug!?”
Marinette sucked in a breath at the accusation. She had to keep her cool, dissuade Alya like she had done in the past. With a shake of her head, she tried to relax and start to figure out how to convince her friend that it was not possible for her to be Paris’ sweet heart.
“Alya, we’ve been over this. You know I’m no-” Marinette cut herself off as Alya flicked on a light which revealed Mari's living room walls covered like a homicide precinct. Various photos, newspaper clippings, printouts of texts messages. She even had red string connecting things together.
She brought a hand to her brow in frustration. This charade was getting old. It had been six years, and Alya’s accusations were becoming more frequent. She had too much information at her disposal from running the Ladyblog and all of it was pretty damning evidence.
A timeline matching all of Marinette’s disappearances an excuses to the same times as Akuma attacks, evidence pointing to Ladybug previously being a Dupont student and in Miss Bustier’s class which helped narrow down the list of suspects by a mile, and pointing out that Marinette would be the only person who would know Nino and her well enough to give them a Miraculous personally.
Alya even made a gif of Marinette with and without a Ladybug mask and ribbons photoshopped on her face and the likeness was uncanny to the point that Marinette was shocked no one had discovered her sooner.
Marinette let out a deep sigh, knowing that there was no point in hiding it anymore. She had felt bad for keeping Alya in the dark for so long, especially since she ran the top blog dedicated to knowing everything about Ladybug. A soft, assuring pat from Tikki within her coat pocket helped ease her nerves as she tried to compose herself, a Ladybug-like smirk crossing her face.
“Guess that’s why you're the master of illusions eh Rena?”
The room was silent for a beat before Alya let out a scream and threw herself at her friend. Marinette erupted into a fit of laughs at her reaction and she felt an immense weight removed with the confession.
“Holycrapholycrapholycrap. I can’t believe it’s you.” Alya then took the chance to slug her in the arm. “That’s for not telling me sooner.” Marinette rubbed her arm, feigning being hurt before giving her a small shove back. She looked over and Tikki has flown out to join Trixx on the coffee table, the two of them quite excited to be reunited.
After a few moments, the two composed themselves the best they could as Alya started her line of questioning. The fact that Alya had her own Miraculous and Kwami meant that Marinette thankfully didn’t have to try and explain all the technical details of her powers and lore that surrounded the superheroes, but that meant that the questions were much more personal.
A few hours went by and the two ended up curled up on the sofa, matching wine glasses sitting precariously on the coffee table as Alya did a deep dive into Marinette’s superheroine life. It honestly felt so good for her to finally get this secret identity thing off her shoulders and just feel a bit more normal for the first time in years.
“Oooh girl imagine what Adrien would say if he knew you were Ladybug.” Her cheeks burned at the suggestion. It was obvious that Adrien had a not too subtle crush on Ladybug that the crew endlessly teased him about. Even when being Ladybug, she could see how Adrien’s demeanor would differ to the point that his anxiousness and stuttering rivaled that of when Marinette would try to talk to him back in their school days.
“I have enough boy problems with Chat Noir on the Ladybug side of things and Adrien on my side.” Between Adrien fawning over Ladybug and Chat’s sporadic drop in visits to Marinette, which the number of late night talks had increased over the years, made keeping her identity a secret that much more difficult for her to manage. Alya nodded in agreement before tilting her head for another question.
“Wait. Does Chat not know your identity?” She seemed genuinely perplexed at the thought of them not knowing each other. Marinette ran a hand through her hair as she looked back sheepishly. Alya’s eyes went wide. “Wait are you serious?? I’m the first to learn that Marinette Dupain-Cheng is fucking Ladybug!?”
“We haven’t shared our identities to keep each other safe!” Marinette shielded herself as Alya whacked her with a pillow.
“You two are partners . You know Nino & I’s identities and Nino and I know each other's. Are you saying that the only person in the dark about everyone’s identities is Chat?” She thumped her friend again with the pillow. “Tell me how that makes ANY sense.”
“It was my idea to not share our identities.” She grabbed her own pillow and threw it at Alya. “And I had to pick the new Miraculous holders. Once we let you keep them for good, there was no need for him to know because he wouldn’t need to seek you out.” It was a weak argument, she knew it. But if Chat had been privy to Carapace and Rena’s identities, she knew that he would want to know hers even more.
“Girl it’s been 6 years! Have you never once been curious who is hiding under the mask? Who you have been trusting all this time?” Marinette clutched the pillow in her arms tight to her chest and partially buried her face in it before mumbling out a response. She could always reason with herself or Tikki as to why she was avoiding that conversation, but sitting here in front of Alya she knew she couldn’t lie her way out of it.
“What if he doesn’t like who is under the mask.” Her voice was weak as she spoke but her sentiment was still there. She wasn’t going to lie and say that she hadn’t become quite fond of the alley cat over the last few years. Especially when she interacted with him as herself and without the superhero persona as a barrier. A hand slipped on her shoulder and she looked up at Alya, keeping her face half buried in the pillow.
“If he can’t like both sides of you, then fuck him.” She paused for amount before rolling her eyes. “I mean, don’t fuck him, unless you want cause like that cat suit shows off a lot like oh man.” She fanned herself for affect before getting serious once again. “But if he is going to be that shallow and can’t see you for your entire self, then you don’t need him and he doesn’t deserve you.”
“Are you afraid of not liking who’s hiding under his mask?” She added softly after a few moments of silence between them.
“No. . .” Marinette exhaled slowly, leaning over and taking a small sip from her glass. “Well, maybe. What if it’s someone I know?” If she was being honest, she thought it might be much easier warming up to the idea of an identity reveal if her and Chat’s civilian identity didn’t really interact. What if her civilian form didn’t like his right now? Or he didn’t like her?
“Well he seems to already like civilian you if he comes and visits as often as you say.” The brunette popped a chip into her mouth before continuing. “Have you ever tried to figure out who it could be?” She shrugged in return, absentmindedly poking the pillow still in her lap.
“Sorta? But it’s not my place to find out his identity before he tells me. Which he would tell me in a heartbeat, even without me exposing mine. But that’s not really fair either.”
“If I told him, I think I’d want to be in civilian form and do it during one of his visits.” She mused quietly. “Because if he isn't happy with who is under the mask, then I don’t have to learn his identity if I don’t want to.”
“That seems fair. It gives you the chance to control the situation if you need to.” Alya polished off her wine before returning the glass to its previous spot and gesturing to her mess on the wall. “So we should probably take this down then before he comes over hm? Didn’t you say he comes on Wednesdays?” Marinette bolted upright and looked over at the digital clock on the stove that said 9:24.
“Shit he’s gonna be here soon. I definitely don’t want my identity revealed like this.” She began unpinning all of Alya’s evidence off the wall as the other began to put away her laptop and pack up her bag. “Should we just burn all of this? We kinda don’t want anyone finding this in my trash.”
“Do we have time to use the grill on your balcony?” Marinette pulled down the last photocopy off the wall and added it to the rather large stack before considering the suggestion.
“Ehhhhh that might be too obvious right now in case he shows up while we are burning things.” She threw open one of the drawers on her coffee table that was never used and started throwing the documents in there. “This should be fine until I can get rid of everything this weekend.”
The soft thump of footsteps on her roof interrupted their thoughts and the two immediately shoved the rest of the evidence away.
“Gogogogo he’s here get out!” Marinette began shoving her friend towards the door, barely giving her time to grab her belongings and for Trixx to slip into her hair.
“Someone’s excited to see her kitty~” Alya teased before slipping out through the front door, a hairbrush smacked against the closed wood as a final protest.

A Crushing Revelation - Ch 6
 Buy Me A Coffee?
“She just acts super-different around me. Nothing like how she acts with everyone else. It’s…odd.”“Oh Kitty,” she said turning to look at him with a sort of pitying humour in her eyes, “you really don’t get it, do you?”“Uh, no,” he said rolling his eyes at her, “That’s why I’m confused.”Ladybug held her smirk and sighed, putting her face in her hand for a moment before lifting it again and giving him a piercing look that said to take note of what she said next, that it would be important.“She has a crush on you.”
Adrien has often been confused by Marinette’s odd behaviour around him and Ladybug can tell when something is on Chat’s mind so he decides to confide in her as vaguely as possible. Marinette might not recognise herself but she definitely recognises the signs of a girl in love. How does Adrien react to the new realisation that one of his closest friends likes him as more than a friend? And what will he do with this information when Ladybug points out that it seems like he likes her too?

Chapter Six - Adrien Can’t Stop Staring
“Dude! Quit staring!” Nino whisper shouted.
Adrien's eyes snapped back to the boy across from him before they dropped to the lab project on the desk between them, face burning.
This was the third time today his best friend had been forced to remind him not to be so creepy and while the first time had been said with a teasing lilt to his voice, he was sure the good humour Nino had felt was quickly dying.
And yet, he couldn't help himself. His mind was a mess of thoughts from the last two days and Marinette was right there! His position -on the opposite side of the lab counter from Nino and his usual place- gave him the perfect view of the girl’s station from here and luckily (or unluckily) she was facing him. It gave him a great opportunity to study her face as she concentrated, tongue stuck out the corner of her mouth and eyebrows tilted.
“You're doing it again,” Nino interjected again without looking up, “Dude, I really need this experiment to go well to help raise my grade in this hell class, so can you just pay attention?”
“Sorry,” Adrien told him, “But you know why I'm distracted.”
“Yeah,” said Nino, grinning ridiculously.
This morning, Adrien had told Nino the abridged version of his inner turmoil over discovering that he might actually like Marinette after all as well as getting confirmation that his “work crush” honestly wasn't interested.
His best friend had comforted him about the latter before exploding into his sacred duty to tease him about the former.  The moment Marinette had walked past he'd given him all sorts of meaningful looks and of course, once she'd been out of earshot, he'd been completely merciless and again reminded Adrien about all the winking and suspect comments he'd made since knowing her.
Staring determinedly at the beaker he was pouring liquid into, Adrien desperately tried to ignore his burning face as best he could. He was never going to live this down now, no matter what happened, and he briefly wondered if he should have even told Nino anything.
“Quit it,” he told him, breathing a slight sigh of relief when the solution in the beaker changed to the expected colour to indicate he'd added the correct amount of liquid.
“Then quit staaaariiiing,” Nino sing-songed at him as he scribbled down the results in his workbook, grinning the whole time.
Yeah, he never should have told Nino.
The thought returned to Adrien at the end of class in full force.
“Hey, Alya! Marinette!” Nino shouted, much louder than necessary to get their attention as they passed by to leave the lab, “My man here only has one more day to eat with friends before he has to go back to lunch at his big, lonely house for the rest of the week. Mind if we join you two again?”
“Niinooo,” Adrien hissed under his breath but found himself silenced by the dismissive wave Nino sent his way.
“Well, we were going to head to Marinette's today,” Alya said in response, “but I'm sure her parents wouldn't mind. Right M?”
He watched awkwardly as Marinette turned to look at him, blushing lightly as she gave a shy smile, absent-mindedly brushing a lock of stray hair behind her ear as she did. He was pretty certain she wasn't the only one blushing.
“There’s plenty to go around,” she said looking up at him through her eyelashes shyly, “If that’s, um, okay with you, Adrien?”
“Uh…” He floundered momentarily before he felt Nino harshly bump him from the side, jaw slamming shut in shock and pain. “Yeah,” he breathed, “that sounds good.” Marinette practically beamed back at him in response and he started to wonder if not all the heat came from the blood rushing to his face, but if maybe instead some radiated from the girl in front of him as she shone as bright as the sun just from his acceptance alone.
The walk to the bakery was a quick one, which as it turned out was something of a mercy. Alya had linked into Nino almost instantly and the two had run off ahead leaving a very clear and obvious gap between themselves and the two hopeless kids behind them, occasional looks thrown over their shoulders at their best friends. Adrien hadn’t had the faintest idea where to start trying to initiate a conversation with his friend-turned-admirer and instead had simply stolen glances at the girl beside him as minutes passed in painful silence.
The glances had been somewhat insightful though as every glimpse at her made his stomach flutter and his chest constrict uncomfortably as he noticed her penchant for nervously chewing her lip. Because while he might have felt awkward and uncomfortable, he also felt a great deal of warmth blooming in his chest whenever he spotted her teeth pressing against the tender skin there. There was absolutely no denying that he found it adorable.
As they arrived, Adrien found himself in a new, unexpected kind of hell as Marinette’s parents greeted them all, spending an especially long time asking him how he was doing and saying how pleased they were to see him again. Normally he loved this kind of attention, even if it did embarrass him, but now -now that he knew- it was obviously laced with little smirks and hidden statements meant more to unsettle Marinette and make their approval obvious. He despaired at himself over how he had ever missed any of these clues before. Surely this was worse than their usual fawning over him, wasn’t it? Or had it always been this transparent and he was simply the biggest idiot in all of Paris?
“Maman!” Marinette had shrieked as she finally pried him away from her parents by the elbow and practically pushed him up the stairs before realising what she was doing and slinking away to stand behind Alya. She didn’t reappear until the group had made it inside her living-room and even then, her face remained a tell-tale pink.
“H-Have a seat!” she squeaked at Adrien and Nino as Alya followed her to the kitchen to start looking out lunch foods.
“Hey, Marinette? Do we have a selection?” Nino shouted suddenly, startling the girl into knocking over the fruit bowl on the counter, “’Cause I think my boy here needs you to tell him each one before he can decide.”
Glancing over quickly to see that Marinette was distracted picking up the fallen fruit before it bruised, Adrien turned to his best friend with a scowl. “Quit overdoing it!” he hissed, not noticing Marinette freeze as he began to speak, Alya taking over clean-up for her, “I can talk to her myself if you give me some space.” He also missed how her eyes widened and she dropped what little fruit she had managed to gather up already.
Sensing Marinette’s over-reaction coming from a mile away, Alya bumped her arm against her best friend’s which quickly snapped her back into startled action. “Soup!” she shouted, frightening Adrien who jumped as he turned back to face her, “Papa made soup! Or we have casserole or quiche. And I could always make sandwiches.” Her face dropped to watch her toe scuff against the tiles that made up the kitchen flooring as she suddenly lost her nerve to look Adrien in the eye.
He gulped and ran his hand through his hair, grabbing at the fine hairs at the base of his neck when he reached it, the slight pain a distraction from the awkward atmosphere in the room. “I love quiche,” he managed to mumble back at her, “What kind?”
The afternoon got progressively more awkward from there. Marinette managed to muddle up almost everything she said to Adrien and the smiles he gave her in response more closely resembled grimaces as he tried desperately to remember how he was supposed to act around friends. Alya and Nino had eventually taken pity on them and started to engage them in separate discussions on recent extra circulars. Adrien took the distraction gratefully, prattling on about his upcoming fencing tournament and how he would have liked to try other kinds of sword fighting, had he the time.
It worked well most of the time, Adrien forgetting the strange tension in the room between him and the girl on the other side of the table but there were occasions when his words failed him, and he had to be reminded of what he was saying. Because once the girl’s conversation had fizzled out, they had decided to listen, and Marinette never stopped looking at him as he spoke. As she watched him, she always appeared to be admiring not just his face, but to be truly enjoying the sound of his voice and everything he said to her. She stared, not like she was just some starstruck fan (although there was definitely a slight element of that as well) but as if he had somehow given her the answers to something important. Like he was telling her, and her alone, a secret which affected the whole universe and their place in it.
It was overwhelming.
The real moment of clarity came when the argument began. Nino had taken a turn talking about what changes he was working on for his latest music mix, playing them a sample, when Alya had made an off-hand comment about not really noticing the difference between his last draft and the one he had just played.
All hell had broken loose as Nino had taken great offence, claiming Alya meant it as a distasteful comment on his abilities as a DJ. Alya, in turn, was annoyed that Nino would actually expect her to make a comment with the intent to upset him. Marinette had intervened, explaining quickly to an angry Nino had Alya and herself weren’t as tuned into the differences in music as he was and that he couldn’t honestly expect everyone to understand and recognise the minute differences he had made every time he changed something. Adrien had been sure that was the end of it, a smug Alya and a chided Nino going silent - except Marinette then did something amazing.
She turned back to Alya, face full of disappointment, and began to lecture her about being more considerate when talking to people, especially to people she cared about. Alya’s grin slipped away the longer Marinette spoke, as she realised she wasn’t getting off the hook lightly. Her face took on a remorseful look as her best friend began to finish up before she turned to Nino and apologised for her bluntness.
Adrien simply stared, slack-jawed. He was accustomed to the idea that people should support their friends. If nothing else, it was the moral of pretty much every cartoon and TV show he had ever binged in his life. But Marinette had done something extraordinary when she had defended Alya to Nino. Because she had also ensured Alya knew she had done something wrong. She hadn’t defended Alya blindly but instead, she had encouraged Alya to become a better person the next time she found herself in a similar situation, by forcing her to face her own short-comings. With his limited experience with friends, it was something that had never occurred to Adrien before. Chloé certainly wouldn’t have appreciated if he had done the same. Yet here was Alya smiling at Marinette in thanks for her intervention.
He continued his awed admiration for a moment before Alya caught sight of him and, making meaningful eye-contact with her best friend, flicked her gaze back to him and away again quickly; an obvious hint to look. Marinette’s eyes widened as her head turned stiffly until she met his own and his heart thumped loudly as a dull ache settled in his chest at the contact.
Shit, he thought suddenly, realisation hitting him like a ton of bricks, I do like her.

There’s Something in Your Eyes
I'm going to kind of combine prompts for this one, and that may be cheating a bit, but I like this enough to submit it for both. First and foremost, this is a Harry Potter AU (Day 13), and I have combined it a bit with Day 17, Prom Night. Of course, the closest thing to a "prom" in the Harry Potter universe would be the Yule Ball! So this will be a two-shot, with part one being posted today, and part two posted on the 17th. I hope you enjoy!
This year, the Triwizard Tournament is being held at Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, where Marinette Dupain-Cheng has been selected as Champion. She is not afraid of most of the challenges that await her. Except one. Fantastic beasts? No problem. Tests of wit? She's got them in the bag. Asking her crush to the Yule Ball? That's a different story entirely…
Named for Ajab Si from Om Shanti Om.
Also on AO3
Alya placed a hand on a vibrating Marinette's shoulder. She had been anxious all day, and couldn't seem to get ahold of herself. "You can do this, girl! Just believe in yourself!"
"I don't know, Alya, he's already turned three girls down today," Marinette lamented. "What makes you think he'll agree to go with me?"
"He can't possibly turn down the school champion, though! He didn't even know any of those other girls. They only recognize him from fashion magazines. You're his friend! Plus, I've always thought he's had a soft spot for you."
Marinette's face flamed up. She had a point. The other girls weren't even Beauxbatons students. "A-anyway, what do I even say to him?"
Alya wrapped her arm all the way around Marinette's neck and waved her wand in a circle. "You just go up to him and say everything exactly as we practiced. You can do it!"
Marinette took a deep breath, "Okay, I can do this."
It was the 21st Triwizard tournament since it's revival, and this year the tournament was being held at their school. Marinette had the great honor of being the Beauxbatons champion for the year, and while the challenges didn't normally scare her, there was one thing that left her terrified: asking Adrien Agreste to the Yule Ball.
"Alright, here's your chance!" Alya put both hands on her shoulders. "Go for it, Marinette!"
As Adrien walked by the corridor with Nino, Alya shoved Marinette directly in front of him. No one would have guessed that Marinette Dupain-Cheng was a Tournament Champion, capable of taming wild beasts and life-threatening battles with the way she tripped and flailed her arms as she stumbled out in front of her crush and his best friend. Her textbooks spilled out of her arms, and her holly wood wand slipped out of her hand. The only thing stopping her from tumbling on the ground along with them was a strong arm wrapping around her waist as she flailed.
"Are you alright," Adrien asked, bringing Marinette upright.
"You're so fine--I mean I'm fine! Everything's great! I just fell for--I mean over you--I mean, I just tripped a little bit." Marinette groaned internally at her inability to speak a coherent sentence in front of this boy and cursed Alya for forcing her to follow through with this plan.
As usual, if Adrien noticed her nonsensical babble, he chose to ignore it. "Well, I'm glad you're okay."
Both Adrien and Marinette bent down together to retrieve her dropped materials. Nino handed her the nearly trampled wand and Adrien helped her back to her feet. "Thank you."
"No problem." Adrien shot her one of his million dollar smiles, and Marinette had to focus on holding onto her materials this time. "See you later, Marinette."
He and Nino started to walk once again, and Marinette knew this was now or never. She had to do it. She was going to do it. "Wait, Adrien!"
He turned back to look at her. "What's up?"
"Um…"Marinette took a breath to steady herself. She could do this. Before she could stutter, doubt, or second guess herself, she forced the words out of her mouth with as much strength and confidence as she could muster. "Will you go to the Yule Ball with me?"
Marinette's heart pounded in her chest. Part of her wanted to turn and run from the sheer embarrassment of actually asking her crush to the ball, but she stood her ground. She was a Champion, after all. She could face dragons and giant spiders. She could deal with this.
By some miracle, Adrien smiled. Not one of his fake model smiles that he showed the girls who fawned over him every day, or that he wore on the cover of magazines, but a real, genuine smile that she only saw when he was laughing at one of his own jokes, or when Nino was telling him about his most recent date with Alya. "I'd love to go with you, Marinette!"
"Really?"
"Of course! It'll be fun!"
Behind Adrien, Nino, ever the wingman, gave Marinette two thumbs up. She could hear the faint shutter of Alya's cell camera.
"Yes! Great! So…um…I'll see you later then?"
"Yeah, see you later!" Adrien gave her a small wave before turning with Nino to continue on their way.
Marinette waved back at him, a dreamy smile painted across her face. He'd said yes! He was going to the ball with her! She couldn't believe this.
"…ette! Earth to Marinette!" Alya waved her hand in front of Marinette's face.
"I think my legs went numb," Marinette whispered. "I don't think I can make it to class today."
Alya chuckled. "I guess I'll just have to carry you, then."
Alya looped her arm through Marinette's and tugged her towards the classroom. Marinette could have sworn that she floated the entire way there.
"So, are you psyched for your date with Marinette?"
Adrien gave Nino a puzzled look. "Date?"
Nino grinned, resting his headphones around his neck. "You know, your date. At the Yule Ball."
Adrien shook his head. "It's not a date, Nino."
He rolled his eyes. "It's totally a date, bro. I've seen the way you look at her. Throw in some low lighting and some sweet romantic tunes, and you're in business."
Adrien's eyebrows scrunched in confusion. "What are you talking about? How do I look at her?"
"Dude, its like she's the sun and your whole world revolves around her. How can I not notice? How can you not notice?"
Adrien shook his head as class began. Sure, Marinette was awesome. She was brave, smart, quick on her feet, strong, and beautiful, but he didn't look at her like that, did he?
News spread to the rest of the school within the next two days, thanks to coverage by the school news paper, and no thanks to Alya for providing pictures.
Marinette had quickly gotten used to being scrutinized since entering the tournament, but she didn't appreciate having her love life projected about the school, especially when she hadn't even established that she had a love life yet.
"Why did you give them that photo, Alya?" Marinette pushed the newspaper away from her and flopped forward on the table.
"The world deserves to know that my girl is making progress. Everyone already knows you two are made for each other. Just had to make it official."
Marinette groaned. She couldn't help feeling a little proud of the public announcement, even through her embarrassment. She wasn't sure yet what Adrien thought of the article, but she would deal with that if it came up.
"So are you going to be making your dress?"
Marinette turned to face her best friend and grinned. "I started it weeks ago."
"Dang girl, you didn’t even have a date yet."
"I would have to go either way," Marinette shrugged. "Plus, I thought I'd need more time. Sewing with magic is way faster than using my grandmother's machine."
"Tell me about it. I know I've said it before, but can you imagine what my parents would say if they saw some of this stuff? If my dad could see some of the animals you've battled, he would flip out."
Alya, being muggle born, was always finding something new to marvel over. It was refreshing for Marinette. Being half-human, she'd grown up in a blended household filled with both human and wizard technology, so it was fun to see someone who had access to so much technology in the human world obsessing over technology and magic that had existed for hundreds of years.
"So, how's it looking? The dress I mean."
Marinette giggled. "It's a surprise.
Adrien, of course, heard about the newspaper article fairly quickly. He generally shrugged it off, not really bothering to even read it. He'd heard what he needed to know from Nino, after all. And Chloe, of course, had her fair share to say about it. He tried to ignore her as much as possible for his own sanity.
He gathered that Alya had submitted the pictures and been the primary source for the article. Nino was eating it up, of course, insisting that it was equivalent of announcing his and Marinette's relationship.
Nino considered Adrien to be deeply in denial, not out of distaste for Marinette, but simply because he was too dense to realize his own feelings. He was a pure soul, thoroughly innocent to the point of not wholly understanding himself.
Nino knew him well, though. He saw the way he lit up when Marinette was around, and how she captured his attention just by being in the same room. He wanted his boy to be happy, and Marinette was able to do that for him.
It was time to talk to Alya about developing a plan.
