While re-reading chapter 30 of my FE3H fanfic before publishing it, I found those two scenes that I liked very much.

Le grand bac les amena d’une rive à l’autre. Massées au milieu d’une foule compacte, elles contemplèrent, ébahies, l’infini de la mer. Maeve goutta la saveur du sel sur ses lèvres, l’odeur singulière du vent. Elle plongea ses doigts dans l’onde, la sentit couler entre ses phalanges au fil des puissantes avancées de l’embarcation. Des vagues aux délicates crêtes blanches semblables aux broderies de Vigdis se brisaient contre la coque. 

The boat took them from one shore to the other. Crowded together, they gazed in amazement at the infinity of the sea. Maeve tasted the salt on her lips and the unique scent of the wind. She plunged her fingers into the waves, feeling them flow between her fingers as the boat moved forward. Waves with delicate white crests similar to Vigdis's embroidery broke against the hull.

La mer était…immense. Rien de comparable aux lacs et aux sources où elle s’était baignée. Gladys comprenait pourquoi Vigdis la représentait sans se lasser et pourquoi sa troupe avait choisi ce nom. Cette splendeur élevait l’âme. Toutes deux retirèrent leurs chaussures et s’aventurèrent dans l’eau. La température était convenable, encore un peu fraîche mais moins que l’eau vivifiante, même en été, dont elles avaient l’habitude. Le ressac déposa un baiser humide sur leurs chevilles. Le soir tomberait bientôt et l’eau deviendrait vin, puis encre. Cette métamorphose n’enthousiasmait point Gladys.

The sea was… immense. Nothing like the lakes and springs she had bathed in. Gladys understood why Vigdis never tired of depicting it and why her troupe had chosen that name. This splendour lifted the soul. They both took off their shoes and ventured into the water. The temperature was just right, still a little cool but less than the invigorating water they were used to, even in summer. The surf deposited a wet kiss on their ankles. Evening would soon fall and the water would become wine, then ink. Gladys was not enthusiastic about this metamorphosis.
