I really really liked first episode and I’m super excited for whole show 🤩 I can’t wait to see next episode!
Iain already gave really powerful performance and I bet it just the beginning and we will see even more amazing scenes with him ♥️.
Of course some haters (who can’t stand black Merlin..) already bombard scoring with bad reviews so if you watched the first episode and liked it - please share some love on sites like IMDB and social media so the cast know that people enjoy it 🥰

i stand by that a better, more sensible, and more intriguing plot for TSATS would have been, instead of retconning literally everything:
Bob is dead (because he was very explicitly absorbed/killed by Tartarus Himself in House of Hades, alongside Damasen), and nobody is going into Tartarus to save him. He made his sacrifice and is gone. However. Remember how the Titans, including Bob, were just kind of kicking around for several years? Particularly. On a cruise ship full of mortals. And Bob happened to be kicking around in general for an extra year versus all the other Titans. And he mythologically sometimes has a mortal demigod son who partook in the Calydonian Boar Hunt (Dryas of Calydon). Yeah.
So turns out, Bob/Iapetus leaves behind a demigod (demititan?) child. And because Nico was pretty much his only friend, he named Nico his child's godfather. And while he's not being left in charge of the child, as a son of Hades and godfather to this kid, Nico is duty-bound to fulfill Bob's last will and go find this like 2 year old to make sure they're safe. So Nico has to undertake this very unusual quest (that raises many questions, such as "demititans are a thing?" and "DOES THIS MEAN THERE'S POTENTIALLY MORE-?!" and "SHOULD WE BE CONCERNED ABOUT THIS?") and is kind of freaking out because. He's the son of Hades! He's notoriously bad with living things, and animals, and definitely small children! Even if he does find this kid and assure they're safe, he is the last person who should be undergoing any kind of quest involving even potentially having to babysit. Fortunately, his boyfriend is the human embodiment of sunshine and calmness and good vibes, and also once helped a nymph give birth, so he feels Marginally More Confident in theoretical demititan babysitting and offers to come along on this Epic Journey of Figuring Out What In Hades' Name Is Up With This Demititan Baby Business.
Proceed with wholesome epic shenanigans quest of Nico and Will scurrying around trying to locate this random OP baby while Nico has an existential crisis about the nature of his powers because he doesn't want to let Bob down! Both for Hades Kid Honor Reasons and because Bob was his friend! But what if he's destined to fail this quest just because of who he is? Because he's simply not built for hanging out with the living/mortals? And Will reassuring him that He Will Probably Not Traumatize The Weird OP Titan Baby And It'll Be Fine, and simultaneously getting a peek into the weird other life Nico leads hanging out with immortals much more than the average demigod, which Nico considers his norm. Bonus shenanigans of both of them getting caught off-guard and culture shocked from where each other's respective worlds (Nico's mostly-immortal versus Will's mostly-mortal) cross over and learning to navigate those for each other - Nico finally starting to make some mortal connections and get glimpses at modern mortal American life, and Will trying not to get his brain literally incinerated while Nico's happily casually catching up with some of his old friends who happen to be literal gods.
#pjo#riordanverse#nico di angelo#will solace#solangelo#long post //#LISTEN I JUST THINK WE DONT NEED TO BE RETCONNING THINGS WHEN THERE IS A HIGHLY INTRIGUING MYTH RIGHT THERE#listen. *listen.* Iapetus in myth has a demigod child? and we're in the series? that's all about demigods?#and had titans running around for 4 years? some primarily on a giant ship mostly full of mortals?#and Iapetus himself was running around for closer to like 5 years?#I AM JUST SAYING. that is enough time. and the right conditions. that there are perhaps demititans now.#that alone is a fascinating plot set-up that ties in basically all previous series inherently and has a reasonable starting point#of *course* Nico would be named Bob's child's godfather!#of *course* Nico would consider it a very important personal duty to see out Bob's final will and go on some quest about it!#and under those conditions it makes *perfect sense* for Nico to want to bring Will along! and that he would be very helpful on said quest!#bringing along a lot of skills and abilities in areas that Nico lacks! that are crucial for a quest like that!#also then immediately the plot becomes Will reassuring Nico about his powers being cool and not evil and him being spooky is okay#while Will is also trying to not literally have his brain melt cause Nico's casually introducing him to a trio of death gods or something#forgetting that Will cannot look upon a god's true form#and Will's dragging Nico across the US while Nico is struggling to keep up cause Will forgot that Nico's not American and not from that era#its cute! it's interesting! it immediately begs the question of a next-gen series focusing on a main cast of demititan kids#dont go back to Tartarus that's lame and overdone and ruins a ton of stuff. dont retcon everything that also ruins a ton#give us the fluffy roadtrip comedy that they clearly wanted to write instead anyways#you can even keep the elements of Nico feeling out of his depth and Will constantly on the verge of death. except it makes sense this time.#and it's kind of funny cause Nico's just freaking out over babysitting and it highlights how much tankier Nico is vs Will#even just in casual interactions. yeah Nico can casually look upon a god's true form. dont worry about it#meanwhile Will is slowly collecting sunglasses the entire trip and layering them up for whenever Nico introduces him to another deity

this all being said about the light dragon and how it is definitely the biggest highlight of totk (for me at least), i Do think a lot of the reaction to it Is dependent on botw and zelda's characterisation from that game... a lot of which is kind of lacking in totk because of her more passive role (e.g. you are told about her + see her actions after they have already happened)
like. if you didn't already really like zelda and were sold on her relationship with link (and not even just from a shipping zelink perspective, like. just UNDERSTANDING they have a strong bond from everything they've gone through together) then i'm not sure if any of that stuff in totk would've hit as hard as it did. the game does very little to build on what we already know about them, which i think is both a letdown to new players (which. i am not sure why they are playing the sequel before botw, but that is how totk acts most of the time lmao) and returning ones, and as time goes on it's become harder for me to blame people for not caring for it as much.
what a truly odd game

I know multiple of these are likely important to people, but I'm asking in terms of like - which of these do you tend to focus on the MOST, enjoy the most, that is most essential for you to actually care about the media, etc.?
(For example: someone finding "Relatability" most important would likely not enjoy a show much if they have trouble empathizing with the characters/relating to it, even if it were good otherwise. Or, someone might be able to overlook bad acting and ugly costumes, as long as the Character Dynamics are fun to them, because they value that more than Aesthetics- while for others, bad costumes would be a dealbreaker.)
Also feel free to reblog and explain your answer or more information in the tags- I've always been curious about people's relationships to media, how they conceptualize it/what they get out of it, how some people value some parts more than others, how that informs their overall taste and genres they may be more inclined towards, etc. :0c
#I was having a conversation with a friend about our favorite type of media and they said the reason they DON'T like historical or fantasy#media or etc. is because they can't imagine themselves being in those situations like it's too detached from anything that they can relate#to personally. they put themselves in the shoes of the characters and apparently like feel emotions while watching stuff and actually#get into the way the characters are feeling so they kind of judge how 'good' or 'bad' a show's writing/setting/etc. are by how it makes#them feel and if they think the characters reacted realistically based on what they were feeling in the moment/what in their head they#would be feeling if they were in the postion of the character. SO apparently the distance of it being in an unrelatable setting or too#detached from our reality makes it harder for them to relate to and less able to really engage with it on that level. WHEREAS I watch#things exclusively in a very like.. detached way?? I'm INTERESTED.. it's like im intellectually analyzing everyhting that's happening and#can be intrigued by events but it's not in an emotional way? More of like a distant 'intellectual curiosity'. Maybe the premise or the#aesthetics or something about it has piqued an interest for me to observe it. to see what it's like or how it plays out. how the idea#is executed or etc. But like.. I cannot remember EVER really relating to any character or situation or projecting onto a character#or having those sorts of feelings or investment in it. That is just not a central part of why/how I watch things or what I care about#BUT after this I was thinking maybe this is my disconnect? I do not seem to conceptualize media the way some other people do and I often#walk away with an entirely different take on things. etc. So I wonder if maybe it's part of how everyone values different things probably?#maybe I literally just watch stuff and percieve it from a different frame of mind that others. More of a like detached curiosity#vaguely bemused analysis mode. Instead of a 'I am deeply emotionally invested in this and am feeling for all the characters' mode#And also I bet people who care more about plot/story are also the people who mind spoilers. Whereas for me I literally seek out spoilers#intentionally because that element of 'suprise ooh what will happen next!' is not central at all to my enjoyment. I could know literally#everything that will happen and still can find it interesting to observe - since for me#that's not the point. I'd rather know the ending so I can determine whether I want to invest the time in it in the first place. etc.#ANYWAY!! If I had to choose - I would say I'm usually heavily focused on world details and aesthetics. With only a slight preference#towards characters individually being interesting. Group dynamics can sometimes be okay but I get tired of everything being about relations#hips and romance - especially when sometimes it seems to be like. people who could not stand on their own as a character/are fundamentally#boring otherwise lol. I would watch a series of just one guy locked in a closet talking to himself as long as he was interesting and saying#things that were amusing or notable for some reason lol. I actually tend to dislike plot because most 'plot heavy' things like action focus#ed shows ALWAYS feel to me like they're moving so fast just to get from one thing to another that I'm not getting enough details. Part of#why I tend to not like movies. the time limit makes them too quick. I need a 95 hour expostion dump of the history of the entire world#and a series of 17 episodes straight where a guy is trapped in a room & the audience is just psychoanalyzing him. hghj.. Maybe I find all#characters annoying/unrelatable bc people w my personality type make bad characters/are not often represented (or are done BADLY). so then#I'm just picking 'who is the LEAST insufferable? who could i study like a lab rat?' whilst my main focus is the worldbuilding&costumes lol

Gonna say something potentially controversial:
I think Heartcatch suffers from the Up phenomenon in that people remember it as an excellent, if not flawless masterpiece when it actually has One (1) excellent, if not flawless moment in the beginning and is otherwise nothing special.
#pretty cure#babs' musings#precure: heartcatch#i remember sitting there watching 4 episodes at a time and asking myself “so when does it get as Great as people say”#i admire how different it is in tone and style to other seasons. it really stands out in that regard!#but that doesn't make it automatically better (or worse) than other seasons#it was funnier.#but the story? really underwhelming imo#the only notable part about the plot was the very first scene that set the intrigue and mystery of Yuri's character#but what they deliver on that front was extremely disappointing for me#and all the other characters get pretty mid arcs as well#Tsubomi has anxiety about not being good at anything. nothing comes of that besides one or two insults from the villains.#Itsuki has to crossdress in order to continue the family business because her brother has vague illness#that's never confronted in any satisfying way. it just sorta fades away once she decides she likes being a girl#Erika's insecurity regarding her sister is honestly the most engaging of these arcs and that's because I have a little sister#I suppose I set my expectations too high for that season. but people call it The Best Precure Season when it's not even in my top 3 so far#and that's kinda concerning for me going forward#suite is also proving to be a huge bore for me. extremely artificial season going through the motions of the franchise#Hummy... save me. Hummy. Save me Hummy#I really don't want to struggle through 13 more unremarkable seasons in the hopes of recapturing the magic of Futari Wa and Fresh#argh. i hate not liking things#sorry for the rant in the tags.

dungeon meshi's plot and lore get really complex and interesting the longer it goes but my toxic trait is that my favorite thing about the whole series is still the early chapters where it's mostly about diagrams of monster anatomy and explorations of fantasy life cycles and ecosystems

A big part of author life is learning to make peace with the stories you'll never write.
#adventures in writing#there are layers to this#one part is learning that not every intriguing idea can or should be a complete story#you can just let it sit in an idea folder as a fun daydream and that's fine#then there are the ones that just cycle through#catch your attention for a while but then fall away#but every so often they come to mind and get developed further#and it's likely that one day maybe some of them will stick around long enough to get written#then there are the ones you have to let go#they interested you for a long time and may even have in-depth developments/significant parts of drafts#and you have to recognize that there were fatal flaws to the idea that prevent it from coming to life#and/or you've moved beyond the person you were then and aren't going to be able to write that story in the way it needs#but some of those still stick in your head#coming to mind and making you think maybe you could revamp them into something usable#and you gotta decide if it's worth the effort or if you should prioritize more recent ideas#because this process is cumulative and gets worse as you get older#today i am very very close to trying to find someone who's read my arateph stories#and asking if they'd let me just spill all the plot points of all the arateph retellings i've never written#some have fatal flaws but all have at least some aspect that i really loved#and it kills me not to have any of it in other people's imaginations#the main character and themes of the princess and the pea one#the character arc potential of the goose girl one#the clever (i think) twist on the central little red riding hood moment#one heartwrenching scene in rapunzel#i don't know if i'll ever be able to write the stories but the ideas still live in me and sometimes it hurts to keep it inside#anyhow have a good day

I know nothing about ieytd but I love your art and all your cool little guys. Could you tell me anything about Chief? 👀
Friend I will gladly tell you Most Things about Chief (that I can remember at the moment, anyway). Okay. Here we go!
Matthew, 36 years old, uses they/them and he/him pronouns interchangeably, and primarily goes by “Chief.”
Due to unfortunate circumstances in his younger years, Chief turned to work for a local criminal organisation. He quickly proved to have some kind of talent for it, and rose through the ranks steadily - until he caught the eye of the new Boss, who immediately became invested in him.
At the current moment, he works as the Boss’ right hand. The Boss quite likes them! Chief… does not like the Boss. However, they’re stuck in their position, and going against the boss in any way is as good as a death sentence, so they play along. Though really, he’s not exactly the “right hand” - he’s more just… the Boss’ favourite. A “pet” is how the more disdainful members of the organisation would describe them, though never where anyone prone to gossip can hear them.
Chief would like nothing more than to get away from the whole organisation, get a normal job, lead a normal life. However, things are too messy and dangerous for them to get away, and there’s so much blood on his hands that he’s not sure he deserves it.
He is a rather charming fellow! Well mannered, charismatic in a sense, suave, flirty when he feels like it. But in truth, they form very few attachments. A few flings here and there, some friendly chatter, yes, but nobody could ever really describe themself as their friend.
There’s one guy who comes close - either a journalist or private investigator I don’t remember. The guy’s kinda new to the job, but quite enthusiastic. He interviewed Chief, when he was just starting out, but didn’t know of the man’s role in the organisation (to Chief’s great amusement.) Since then, the two have developed a strange relationship where he keeps pestering Chief and Chief keeps deflecting and playing around with him.
Anyway arguably the Most important event in his story is as follows;
The Boss has this niece. A sweet young thing always dressed for sunny weather, quick to smile, quick to laugh - they take after their mother, a kind woman who died with her husband in an… unfortunate accident.
Anyway, the niece - her name is Sunny (she/they), and she doesn’t like the Boss. In fact, she doesn’t like the whole organisation! So, rather than be stuck with a man she hates in a situation that horrifies her… she runs away, leveraging the threats of revealing their business to the public against the Boss to keep him from coming after her.
Chief… envies them. They got away safe, to a cozy little place by a sunflower field, with enough money to practically retire. She’s living his dream - and with none of the blood on her hands. He’s happy for them, but… wishes it was him.
The Boss isn’t so happy. She’s dangerous, with the knowledge she has, but more than that she’s his family, and they’re defying him. He’s always had a bit of a thing about defiance. In short, he doesn’t like it. So, rather than let them live peacefully away from all of his business, he sends people after them. Not to harm her, of course! She is his niece, after all. But to… talk to her. Persuade her to come back. It never seems to work, though. She’s quite stubborn about the whole business.
So, the Boss sends Chief! Every few months, he gets a break from their duties to take a nice road trip out to a beautiful countryside in the sun and clean air and lack of violence, to have pleasant conversation with a kind young woman who politely yet firmly refuses to come back each time, and then they enjoy some cake and coffee and chatter about nothing much before he inevitably has to go back.
It’s nice! Pleasant. A good change of pace, from the dark, depressing, violent city Chief lives in. Between the crowded streets, perpetual bad weather and towering buildings, they hardly ever see the sun.
…but the Boss is not a patient man, nor an understanding one.
So, after months and months of refusal after refusal (she’s inherited his brother’s awful stubbornness, it seems), he tells Chief that this will be his last visit. They’re going to ask her to come back once more, and when she refuses - (when, not if, Chief notes) - they are going to kill her.
This is when Chief truly, wholly begins to despise the organisation, and especially the Boss.
Not for the first time, but for the first real time, Chief begins to plan to betray his Boss. It’s more desperation than cunning, a hasty plan due to lack of time, but they plan to run away - and take her with him.
…but when they attempt explain that they’ve been ordered to kill Sunny, there’s a misunderstanding. They freak out, lash out at him, and even as he tries to explain it to them they fight him and hurt him and mostly by instinct—!
…he kills her. It was an accident.
……But he’s killed her nonetheless.
He returns home with the good news, and the Boss praises them for it. In the back of their head, they decide they’re not getting out of this alive, but they are going to bring the whole damned organisation down with them. No matter how long it’ll take. Of course, he can’t act immediately - but he’s hiding his time.
In the meantime, the Boss strikes up a deal with a certain corporation, and manufactures a little accident for his favourite employee.
This is where Chief loses the eye and gains a boatload of new scars, including the one on his mouth and the one on their nose (which happens to also be the one that caused the loss of the eye). As a generous replacement, the Boss secures them a cybernetic eye, which would supposedly assist them in their work in some way. It’s unclear - the thing is only a prototype.
…however, Chief leads a dangerous life. After one too many knocks to the head, they’re starting to see strange things out of the corner of their (right) eye, and one in particular looks (heartbreakingly) similar.
Also there’s a kitty in his apartment building named Pistachio, whom he loves :)
