Summary: Your first World Cup

Everyone dreams of scoring a goal in the World Cup final. Hell, everyone dreams of scoring in even the qualifying rounds for the World Cup.

But, to you, it was almost certainly going to be a dream.

You were goalkeeper. You didn't score goals. You stopped them.

It was your whole job.

Your first World Cup was an honour. You were still young but it had been timed perfectly. When you were first called up to join Sweden's team, it was as the third keeper.

The two keepers before you had retired just before the selection for the World Cup squad. Two new keepers for the squad (both older than you) had been selected but you were the number one - a combination of your talent, training and just how many more international caps you had over your counterparts.

Coach Emma had been wary about putting you as the first choice but your performances at Arsenal spoke for themselves. There wasn't much she could do. No one else seemed to quite fit the bill like you did.

It had been a hard won road with two rounds of penalties in the knockout stage that you refused to be cowed by.

It all came down to this.

Sweden vs England.

You recognised a few of the girls from playing in the WSL and you gave them each a tense smile as you run through warmups. You sit in your cubby during the last team talk where Emma speaks about the game plan and how much work this will be and how much everyone needs to give it their all. You put on Zećira's old World Cup gloves. You flex your hands before clenching.

You replace her's with your own and roll your shoulders.

You walk out to the cheers of the crowd and take your position.

England are out with a vengeance and you make a few daring saves in the first half but it's mainly Sweden who dominate possession.

You're deadlocked in nil-nil throughout the first half and then the second half.

You leak into nine minutes of injury when one of your midfielders is dispossessed. You can hear Coach Emma yelling something at your defenders but you don't look to see the disarray of your backline. An England kit comes streaking up your left wing. She shoots but you're not worried because you already know that she has a tendency to shoot wide.

You collect the ball for a goal kick and one of England's finest starts a run towards you, to put on the pressure.

You could think of nothing but making sure this forward didn't get anywhere near your box or your ball.

You booted it up the pitch.

To be honest, it was an accident.

It hadn't been you trying anything. All you could think about was making sure England didn't even have a chance to score a goal.

You assumed one of your forwards would pick it up - some of them had this uncanny ability to know what you would do before you did.

Either way, you watched the ball sail over everyone's head...

The keeper was about as far off her line as she could be.

It sailed over her head, bounced and rolled into the bottom right corner.

You freeze in shock.

You hadn't meant to do that.

The crowd behind you screamed and you didn't have time to think before you were completely dogpiled by your teammates.

"Get off!" You laugh, trying to shake them off.

"There's no chance now!" Someone says.

"Keep them away from my goal and then there will be no chance," You reply, still completely trapped.

"Which goals is yours again?" Someone else teases," Because I think you've staked a thorough claim on England's too."

Your cheeks flush red and you bat her away. "Shut up."

"Never!" Someone declares," I'm pretty sure our goalkeeper just won us the game! You're never hearing the end of this!"

"Go away," You laugh," Go on. We've still got a few more minutes to play. Keep them off my goal and I'll let you talk about it all you want."

And they do keep England off your goal.

You sink to your knees in shock as you're dogpiled again. Swedish is flowing easily into your ears but you can't understand any of it. You slowly get to your feet and walk strangely calmly over to the stands.

You pass Coach Emma on the way. She's smiling, clapping you on the back. You think she says something too but you're too busy listening to the roaring of blood in your ears.

You hop the barrier and move into Momma's arms.

She holds you nice and tight as you still stare in shock. You think you're crying but you're numb to most things.

Momma's talking but her words are just static in your ears as you're moved from her to Morsa to moster Frido and then finally to Zećira.

You come back into the present when you see her. Shakily, you remove your gloves and hold them out to her.

She smiles and takes them. "I'm so proud of you. Best keeper in the world."

More tears slip down your cheeks. Your voice breaks. "Thank you."

"So proud of you," Morsa says as she and Momma appear over your shoulders," Clearly you're just like your Momma. Scoring goals."

"Is was an accident," You say softly.

"And it was a perfect accident," Momma says," I couldn't have done it better myself."

You laugh a little wetly. "Well," You say," I must have picked it up from all those times you kicked at me in the garden."

"Champion of the world!" Moster Frido declares, clapping you on the back and planting a kiss on your head," World Champion! Best keeper in the world!"

"Well," Momma says," This keeper needs to head back down to receive her medal. Go on, off you go." She pushes you away lightly.

You hop the barrier again and line up with the others.

There's a sense of pride as you walk across the stage, receive your medal and kiss the trophy.

You feel a little shaky as the trophy is lifted and you celebrate, screaming out your victory for the whole world to see.

You jump around with your teammates, each of them strongarming you into taking a picture with you and the trophy.

By the time you manage to get away, you're jogging over to the England side. You strip your shirt and hold it up into the crowd.

A hand reaches down to take it.

You look up.

Leah stares down at you. She leans over the railing.

"I should be mad at you," She says," But that was the best goal I've seen in a while. I'm very proud of you. Are you sure I can't convince you to stay?"

You look down bashfully and confess," I think Arsenal's getting a bit too small for me."

Leah laughs. "Yeah, I reckon that too." She pulls your shirt over her head. "You'll come back and visit?"

You bump your fist against hers. "Well, North London is red."

She grins at you. "Go on, World Cup winner. Off you go. I'll see you around."

"Bye, Leah."

You jog towards the Sweden side of the crowd again, pumping up your fist as people scream your name.

You skid to a stop in front of Morsa. You drop your medal over her neck.

"For you," You say," For all the World Cup medals you gave me."

March Update!

March update is available on itch.io! Check out the changelog below:

New white patches: MAO, CHESTSPECK, PAINTED, WINGS, and BLACKSTAR.

Skin color now affects the inside of cats' ears.

New nylon collars - plus indigo and white variants of all color types.

You can now delete saved clans on the Switch Clan Screen.

New camp background: Grotto

New fading effect. Previously, cats became more transparent as they got closer to fading. This has been replaced with a three-stage "unraveling" effect.

Added many new kittypet and loner names.

Grief system has been expanded to give more unique death reactions based on the trait and mate status of the living cat.

New backstories!

"Bee sting", "headache", and "severe headache" are now potential injuries. "Persistent headaches" have been added as a permanent condition.

Lost cats can now return to the clan via moon events!

Lost cats can now die randomly, rather than just from old age.

New background for the Unknown Residence Screen.

Kittypets, loners, and rogues have a chance to appear in the "Cats outside the Clan" tab. These cats have a chance to join the clan during patrols.

Returning to the main menu or closing the game will now cause a pop-up window to appear, which will ask if you want to save your clan before proceeding.

Lots of new patrol art!

Added a setting to control the display of gore in patrol art. Gore is turned off by default.

New patrols!

Added a handful of new mediator moon events.

If there are no warriors that have trained apprentices in the clan, a random warrior will be selected to be deputy. A special event text will be displayed for this situation.

New scar system for patrols on Classic Mode.

Previously, a bug was preventing patrol outcomes that rely on traits or skills. This bug has been fixed. This doubles the amount of accessible patrol outcomes!

Allow more variety in tortie base colors, including ginger-on-ginger torties.

Many new ceremonies, including special ceremonies for dead mentors and parents.

The code for moon events has been rewritten to allow for more flexibility and utility.

The limit on mediating has been reworked. Each mediator may mediate once per moon, rather than a global "one mediate per moon" limit. However, a single pair of cats can only be mediated between once per moon.

Murder events are now affected by relationship values.

Moon events regarding other clans now trigger based on your relation with the other clan.

A variety of game-chances have been moved game_config.json, in the resources folder. This will allow players to more easily edit chances, if they desire.

Star is no longer a possible prefix for clanborn cats.

When a kittypet that has a multi-word name joins the clan, there is a chance for them to pick only one word from their previous name to use as their prefix.

Cats who cannot work are no longer eligible mentors for new apprentices.

Male tortie chance has been significantly lowered - they now occur at a similar rate to shinies in pokemon games.

Affairs now work!

Mediate will now correctly affect trust, romantic like, and platonic like.

Mediators and mediator apprentices will no longer retire due to permanent conditions.

Clicking on a cat on the family page will now take you to that cat's family page, allowing for easier scanning through family lines. You can still access their profile by shift-clicking.

Reduced age at which cats fade to 202 moons.

Chance to develop "Lasting Grief" has been reduced.

Okay, I’ve made a compiled dump of lore on my interpretations/versions of IEYTD characters (mainly Phoenix and Handler so far) so I can pin this and ppl won’t have to go looking for old posts. I’ll be updating this as I figure stuff out or if anything changes with them. Apologies if this is a little hard to read, I kind of word-vomited info here and I’ve tried to clean it up a little. Spoiler warning for IEYTD 1 and 2

Buckle up it’s gonna be a long one

First up: Handler, he/him (tumblr doesn’t have yellow text so orange will have to do).

He wears a sleeveless yellow turtleneck over a short sleeved shirt, square glasses, and a yellow headset. Originally a Field Agent for the Agency, he made quite a name for himself and was given the internal/honorary nickname of Agent Moray due to his knack for slipping away from Zor’s clutches while also leaving carnage in his wake (little did people know, he usually ran on pure adrenaline, fear, and general clumsiness that worked out in his favor). He eventually had to retire from field work and become a handler due to him breaking his right leg during his last mission and it not healing properly. Before he had to hang up his spy gear, he was selected to be an early implant tester for the Agency, and the one he got was a rudimentary version of the telekinesis where he could float things in place but not grab objects from afar. He has kept it and it has proved especially useful during his time as a handler for hovering important documents like dossiers and building blueprints/layouts nearby during missions. As for his actual work as a handler, he acts as support to Phoenix, mostly with work related things, but sometimes emotionally as well. He acts as an anchor for Phoenix and is there to bring them back to reality should he notice them getting that glassy-eyed, million mile stare every once in a while. He was very concerned for them in the fallout of Operation: Death Engine and after that he became more attached to them, resulting in him being devastated after Rising Phoenix. If there is anything between him and Phoenix, it leans more towards him being like a father figure than anything else. He usually works from his office in the Agency building (the one from IEYTD 1), but occasionally for more urgent/important/overseas missions, he opts to be nearby (in the crowd in Stage Fright, above Phoenix somewhere in Eaves Drop, outside the chateau in Party Crasher, etc.). If I come up with more I’ll add it to here, 10/10 character.

Next (and probably much longer): Phoenix, they/them.

During IEYTD 1, they had short hair and wore a long sleeve dress shirt and their cyan tie. They were able to do more action-intense missions (hijacking Zor’s sub, sneaking into a cargo plane to steal a car, sneaking onto a shuttle to the Death Engine, etc.) and were generally more aloof about their own safety and pretty much saw their job as just a fun game. However, in the aftermath of Operation DE, their left leg was badly injured and needed to be replaced from the thigh down, so the Agency provided them with a robotic prosthetic. It took them a while to get used to it, and while they can walk, run, and stand with it just fine, it’s a bit difficult for them do more intense activity like, say, hand to hand combat (although a good kick to shin usually has foes doubled over) or dodging projectiles. They also got their facial scars from the DE Incident, with the one on their left cheek coming from the beam that shot into their shuttle when the Death Engine fired for the first time. The other two are just general nicks and gashes from crashing back to Earth. Because of their robotic leg, someone in the Agency gave them the nickname “Tin Can” and it stuck (Phoenix pretends to hate it but thinks it’s amusing). After months of recovery, they were cleared for field work once again where they were given slightly easier missions that have most of the action happen while they’re seated (an exception to this is the implied fight with Gibson before Party Crasher because him being there was unexpected). This time around they prefer to roll up their sleeves because it’s more comfortable, allows for more movement, and it keeps them from getting singed/dirty, but they still wear a cyan tie (a new one since their old one was torn). Their hair grew out during their stint in Medical and they liked it, so they decided to keep it longer. Not much happened to them physically during IEYTD 2, but after Rising Phoenix they had their right arm replaced from the elbow down and got an updated leg (their og prosthetic was shattered in the fall).

I don’t have a design for them as they are in IEYTD 3 yet, so for now just imagine more scarring, longer hair, and a metallic arm from the elbow onwards.

Now, enough about their physical description, now it’s time for more on their mental state(s). After the DE Incident, Phoenix refused to actually dive into their emotions about losing a leg and nearly dying and instead preoccupied themselves with learning to use their new prosthetic and getting well again so they could return to field work. They don’t like to be alone with their thoughts for too long otherwise they start to spiral to a bad place so they’re always listening to some kind of music (a radio, headphones, humming/singing a song to themselves, or just replaying songs in their head). Handler helps them with this and pulls them back to the present every so often. Phoenix also once received an anonymous gift package that contained some very comfy and good quality earbuds (three guesses as to who sent them). They weren’t too surprised by Juniper’s twist of actually being evil (they had an icky feeling about the slimeball ever since they heard his tone in his call during their mission briefing for Jet Set). During Safe and Sound (and by extension, the tutorial), Phoenix gets a sinking feeling that Handler was never truly with the Agency and had betrayed them until Juniper revealed his act. Phoenix is furious with him for toying with them like that and mentally kick themselves for falling for it and for allowing themselves to get that attached to Handler (it’s like a taboo/rule at the Agency for handler and agents to not get connected (they don’t have the budget for employee therapy)).

More random tidbits about them and some other stuff that I couldn’t work into the above paragraphs:

- JJ carries a comb in his pocket at all times because he wants to make sure he always looks good (the smug look on his face undercuts the effect)

- JJ’s hair is more on the side of fluffy/soft but when he slicks it back it looks thinner and more wiry

- Phoenix’s color before getting their TK was a darker blue

- Handler’s favorite flowers were marigolds but after Jet Set, he refuses to have any near him

- Before becoming a handler, Handler’s color was more of an orange before mellowing out to a golden yellow after his retirement from field work

- Phoenix and Handler are injured in opposite legs, to which Handler teases them about them becoming an old man like him (he’s not old, about mid/late 40s-ish, idk)

- Phoenix is around 5’8 while Handler is a little under 5’6

- The Agency trains agents with the implant to use a sort of pointing finger gesture to use their powers but they can develop their own hand sign/gesture that better suits them. The pointer finger is generally effective for everyone but is limited in the sense that the user can’t pick up/float heavy objects. Once agents find a gesture that works best for them, they’re able to lift larger objects (like other people, crates, chairs, etc.). Phoenix has yet to find their gesture

- Background characters do not get a color and are either solid black if they’re with Zoraxis or black with grey or muted gold accents if they’re with the Agency

- Phoenix can and does use their powers in their daily life when they’re off the clock. They use them while cooking to hover ingredients nearby, picking out clothes so that they don’t end up wrinkled on the ground, looking through reports on previous missions to study Zoraxis’ preferred attack methods (explosions, guns, darts, etc.), to grab things from high shelves or faraway, etc. They’re really casual about using it and have to stop themselves from doing it when they go out in public (unless no one’s looking)

- Phoenix isn’t a bad cook, they just like to burn their food on purpose (they like the taste and it annoys Handler)

- Handler is a good cook and gets ticked off whenever Phoenix burns food

- Songs that fit Handler: From The Start by Laufey, The World We Knew and My Way of Life by Frank Sinatra, No More by Manfred Minnich, Nothing by Bruno Major, Slow Summer Swing by Essential Jazz Masters, The Lamp is Low by Laurindo Almeida

- Songs that fit Phoenix: Skeleton Song by Kate Nash, Cloud 9 by Beach Bunny, Leave Me Alone by IDKHOW, Debt Collector, Bad Luck!, and Pressure Bomb 3?!?! by Jhariah (Beginner’s Guide versions), My Way by Frank Sinatra, This Side of Paradise by Coyote Theory (thanks @dieing-lilac for sending me some of these <3)

The songs are a mix of songs from ones that fit their general vibes to ones where the lyrics are accurate (to some degree) of their emotions (Phoenix’s especially). 10/10 songs go check them out if you can

Also the way that character colors work for my style/designs is that it’s an artistic choice to color characters’ details rather than their scars/eyebrows/tongues literally being something like blue or green. A character’s color is a reflection of their personality, characteristics, and general feel that I get from them, with the exception of if a character already has a canonical color (like John Juniper and Roxana Prism). Handler is golden yellow because he seems warm and he likes/liked scotch and marigolds, as well as his subtitle color in IEYTD 1 being yellow (albeit a different shade). Zor is red and gold because Zoraxis is also red and gold so it just makes sense that they would have the same colors as their corporation (also the cliché that red=evil, that whole thing). Phoenix is cyan because of their powers and it fits their personality more than red or any other color would. I don’t really have a reason for why Fabricator would be indigo other than her polaroid pic’s lighting looks dark blue/indigo and that it just makes sense to me. Solaris would be orange because of her love for lasers and because her name makes me think of a glowing ember orange. The more of an impact a character has on the story, the brighter/more saturated their color is (Ex: Daniel Sans would have a muted yellow-green and Anna Ulanova would have a muted maroon because they both don’t appear much but aren’t unimportant).

I think that’s all I have for now, but some of Handler and Phoenix’s characterization can’t really be accurately described without just showing them in their element, so I’m thinking of maybe writing a little story about how Phoenix joined the Agency, how their training went, how they got the implant, and how the events of IEYTD 1 and 2 went with them :) No promises though as I’ll have to find time to plan it out, but if I ever do it I’ll be sure to put it on wattpad or ao3 or something, I’ve never posted a story anywhere before so we’ll see how it goes

The Inoue School of Dance

On The Ninth Day Of Fun I present... a new feature! I’ll be looking at each of the dance schools in turn, so for now enjoy the first one! History The Inoue School, and thus the Inoue Style, began with Inoue Sato (井上サト), who lived from 1767 - 1854. She was entrusted to the care of the Konoe family in Kyoto from an early age as a lady-in-waiting, and showed great promise in the traditional arts. Since the Konoe were of the nobility, Sato had access to the same education as those of the aristocracy, so she was taught only the best. Eventually she went on to become the dance instructor for the Konoe children. When she left their care in 1797, the Konoe family bestowed upon her the name Yachiyo (八千代) and gave her use of the well frame (bishimon) kamon to start her own school of dance. From there she gained her first students of the style and in her old age eventually named a successor, Inoue Aya (井上アヤ) (1770 - 1868), who was granted the title of Yachiyo Inoue II. Not too much is known about Aya, except that she was supposedly the niece of Sato and recognized the talent of a young girl named Katayama Haruko (片山春子) from a very young age and raised her up to be her successor, which would end up being pivotal in the Inoue school’s history. Haruko (1838 - 1938), who inherited the title of Yachiyo Inoue III, would be the one who would be called upon by the governor and mayor of Kyoto to choreograph a dance for the 1872 World Expo to showcase the talents of her students, who at this point happened to be the maiko and geiko of Gion. Her dances became the first Miyako Odori, whose success was so grand that she was granted any wish that the governor could provide. As we know by now, her wish was to unite eight of the finest neighborhoods in the Gion district into its own new kagai named Gion Kobu where only her style of dance would be taught and leave the rest to be called Gion Otsubu. Like Aya before her, Haruko also found a talented dancer from a very young age to eventually replace her, but this time, it was another special young girl: Aiko. Inoue Aiko (井上愛子) (1905 - 2004) began dancing at the age of 3, when those who are of prominent artistic lines usually begin their training instead of age 6. Although not related by blood, she would marry Haruko’s grandson and be adopted into the family. While not a standout beauty, her dancing skills were peerless and it would be the young Aiko who would lead the school as Yachiyo Inoue IV beginning in 1947. It was during her tenure that the world saw much change, specifically, the hardships endured during and after World War II and the slow decline of the karyukai when the bubble economy burst in the 1990s. During her lifetime she was named a Living National Treasure and received various awards and honors from the government for her dance. Like Haruko, Aiko recognized the talent of her granddaughter, Michiko, and named her successor upon her retirement in 2000. Inoue Michiko (井上三千子) (1956 - present) is the currently the fifth holder of the title Yachiyo Inoue. Like her grandmother before her, she began dancing at the age of 3 and showed great promise. Also like her grandmother before her, Michiko has also been named as a Living National Treasure, one of the youngest ever to boot. Michiko’s leadership through the corona virus pandemic has been nothing short of the definition of strength and endurance and hopefully she can continue to pull through as Gion Kobu rebuilds. Now, unlike previous generations, the next Yachiyo Inoue has already been chosen so quickly after the last head’s passing. Michiko’s daughter, Inoue Yasuko (井上安寿子) has already been chosen by committee to eventually replace her mother upon her death. Like the previous heads before her, Yasuko has been groomed since the age of 3 to be a dancer, and her skills are quite impressive. She’s been noted to be a dancing prodigy, hence why her selection has already been made. Style The Inoue style of dance is derived from the Noh court dances, so its movements are usually slow and punctuated by quick, dramatic ones. Natori Those who become natori in the Inoue style are given a special fan signed by the current Yachiyo Inoue and is decorated with a camellia flower, a symbol of the school. Each year they receive a new fan with a new design at Kotohajime. Unlike other dance schools, those who are natori in the Inoue school cannot teach dance unless they are an accredited teacher.

God complex given human/big crocodile form. He is an absolute unit. Standing at 7 feet tall while Human, and 15 feet tall while gator. Absolutely shredded. Knows he's hot shit. Knows he can wreck your shit.

Also has a wide variety of goodies for the depraved. Doesn't really sell directly anymore, but will to a select group of people. Everyone else has to go to one of his lackeys.

Kinda guy you see and immediately make room for because he will not move for you.

He met Bonnie on accident. He was barely 16 at a concert. Dawn took him to go because she liked the band, and wanted to bond with her newly adopted son and show she cared for him.

They got to meet the band up close and something just kinda clicked. Bonnie and Diego talked a lot after and hung out a lot in the weeks following. Just getting high and vibing, going on trips an such. Dawn didn't care too much as Diego got a friend, and didn't get the vibe Bonnie was being a creep. He genuinely wasn't, just kinda clicked with the kid. Straightened him out a little.

Until Diego got into selling shitty weed and worked his way up. Then he became a plug for the band and their staff. Yes Freddy has done some drugs, but not anything too hard. Man just wants to a lil weed and to pass out sometimes.

Skip a few decades and waddles in a 23 year old Monty to replace Bonnie. Diego basically brushed the guy off and told Bonnie he'd be better off else where. Didn't mention they were related. Didn't feel it was worthy of bringing up.

They are related by blood. Diego's bio parents gave him up when he was born, and he got bounced around a lot. Made him a lot of different types of traumatized. But felt so safe and secure with Dawn, and she helped him find some of his family that did want to see him.

Monty's mom adores Diego, partly because he looks just like her. Careful not to say he looks like her sister, his mom. Who was ostracized from the family a number of years prior for just being a shitty person overall. And partly because he's a polite young man who's been nothing short of friendly at the family gatherings :)

Diego doesn't much care for any of his bio family, but knows how far a thank you and a smile can get him :) especially with the scary croc lady

Yes he has said that to Monty. No Monty has never told anyone. He was 15, being berated by a cousin he didn't know for no reason other than Diego wanted to make him cry and knew Monty wasn't a narc

Bonnie of course asked Monty later if he knew Diego, and got the hint pretty fast how that whole situation is. Didn't really do anything with the information because it didn't seem relevant to him at all. Diego has been his friend for a long ass time, and he just needs Monty to play well so he can retire.

Within the current timeline of the were AU, Monty is 26ish (I've probably said other ages in the past but for now slapping that age on), where Diego is 47, and Bonnie is 55 (not old, old, but old enough to know he wants to kick back. He's been rocking for just over 30 years man).

Diego has made passes at Y/N. Mostly because he knew it upset Monty.

He gets along fine with Morgan, but Montana he's always butted heads with. But he respects her enough to leave her alone.

"I understand the reasoning putting us in alphabetical order," Rosa murmured, "but is it really necessary for a group this small?"

The school's ordinary photographer, who had been serving the school for ages, had finally retired. However, he did so at the worst possible time-- right before the yearbook committee needed to send in all their final photos to have the yearbook bound! The school had been scrambling to find a replacement on short notice, and only by a stroke of luck had they managed to book someone before the deadline. Now, all of the clubs and organizations in school had to get their photos taken in a single day, which had caused utter chaos on campus.

And perhaps because everyone, including the photographer, was struggling with the time crunch, some decisions had been made that were...

Well, in Rosa's blunt opinion, inadequate. Bad, even. (She would never say that aloud, however. She always strove to be polite, and she would choose words such as "curious," "interesting," "not quite optimal," or even "rough around the edges.")

Luke whistled softly as he surveyed the group. "I mean, there are enough of us that we can't all fit in one line, so..."

"That's exactly the problem!"

Rosa had always prided herself on her academic prowess and her intellect. When she was nominated to join the school's academic team, she glowed with joy for a solid week. Even in the modern era, many academics could be snobby about women who aspired to great heights. They would dismiss women as merely being good at maybe one or two subjects, but never worthy of being a scholar.

As if every famed male scientist could write compelling essays, or every prestigious male historian could do mental math.

So Rosa had been the only girl selected for the academic team, as she in fact was well-rounded in all subjects. She studied a wide breadth of topics in order to represent not only her school or herself, but all the girls whose brilliant minds were overlooked solely because stuck-up, conservative old farts couldn't look past their manicures or their makeup.

Her hard work had paid off; she had been the second highest point scorer in competitions for the entire season! Second to none other than Luke Pearce, her dearest companion and constant thorn in her side.

"But my name puts me in the back," Rosa went on, urging Luke (who did not seem worthy of that first place accolade right now) to see the issue. "I'm the only girl, and I am also--"

"Oh, no! Rosa, you're short!"

That was a bit too direct. Rosa clutched her chest and tried to ignore the blow to her self-esteem. "N-not short! Just... shorter than most of the team!"

Luke was not listening to her indignant mumbling. He waved towards the photographer, but unfortunately the photographer and staff were too absorbed in their work. They hardly had time to waste, after all. "Mmm... that's no good."

Rosa sighed and leaned onto Luke's shoulder in defeat. "Maybe I'll raise my hand so some part of me shows. Oh, but I'll probably get yelled at. I would have packed heels if I had expected th--"

All at once, Rosa shot up in height.

She suppressed a startled screech as her feet left the ground and she dangled loosely in midair.

No, not loosely. In fact, she almost felt... secure, as she felt two large, warm, comforting hands gripping onto her waist.

"L-Luke?"

"Problem solved! Ta-dah!"

"P-problem not solved! How long can you hold me?!"

"As long as it takes!"

"This isn't sustainable!"

"Should you get on my shoulders instead?"

"Luke Pearce!!!"

Next-gen Special Characters

the concept of the next animal crossing should be a new vs old gen style thing where we get more NPCs like daisy mae flick and CJ and the older gen NPCs become once a month fill-ins for them (excuse being the main new gen is sick, travelling, etc.) with all the previous new leaf NPCs roles returning and not shoved away like how the post office was replaced by just a boring card stand (ideas listed below)

the nooklings replace nook, no longer just separate roles but overtaking the store business with the signature blue tom nook apron look, they also are the ones to help the player build a house and instead of nook or isabelle declaring you "island rep" (aka GOD) or mayor, the player gets to be a construction worker for an up and coming nook inc in a new town shaped similar to the first animal crossing gcn game with a train station, levels of town that descend, all the minigames from gcn, and a new leaf town plaza (and any other big traits from previous games that feel impactful)

isabelle has moved to a new area to become the mayor of a brand new GCN-style town. if there was a way to link new leaf isabelle would have a portrait of the new leaf mayor on her desk, but it would likely pull from new horizons save data instead and show the island rep. tortimer fills in, taking a vacation from his retirement life by indulging in mayor duties while isabelle visits her previous workplaces. this replacement only happens after getting a lighthouse facility installed to complete the lighthouse thing that existed in the first title. he becomes cornimer in fall.

label replaces gracie's role in new leaf as the ultimate unlockable with the fashion checks, with her own brand of furniture and selling the previous gracie furniture (excluding the gracie series, bought once a month when she replaces label, and the princess series, which i repurposed for a later bullet point)

mabel takes full shop ownership and sable creates her own smaller version, explaining in the prologue she wants mable to try and manage the shop on her own since she's grown up. sable will have her own mini tailors that you build in the intro to the game's format similar to how it was in new horizons, moving out of able sisters on main streeet

the dodos replace the pelicans for mail service by seaplane, with mainstreet having a visible seaplane area behind the post office

leila replaces kapp'n but shes still really young, but she can speak full sentences and instead of playing shop she's playing boat in a row boat (she also sings, and has a new kk song called marine song 20XX whichever year the game comes out)

reese and cyrus have a purple-fleeced kid who they let run the shop kind of like how leila plays shop in new leaf tortimer island, but reese and cyrus are both still present in the building, taking over once a month because their kid is sick

harvey and harriet also have a kid running shampoodle

lottie now manages happy home instead of lyle

wardell replaces wendell

niko replaces digby

the ok motors pigeons from pocket camp have an RV coffee shop on main street the player can work for, while the roost can be developed as a small building in the town run by brewster

redd has triplets that he trains under him to mirror the nooklings, and puts on a fake "retired from crime" facade while his underlings carry out his dirty work, selling fake art but also spying on the town, disguised as a rock the player can "break" on the day before the triplets visit. he manages the fireworks stand like normal, with the triplets coming to make their own brand of fireworks they suddenly launch at 3:33am

frillard and farley return as the "old" gen counterparts to shrunk and leif, with shrunk returning for the club lol and leif running a garden center that slowly expands in crop selection with each upgrade, and allowing the player's town perfect fruit to change. farley sets up a small gnome flower shop that looks like the level 1 garden store in new leaf. the unlock requirement is a perfect town, he would be the only way to store flowers and he can make shrubs bloom regardless of season. he doesnt replace leif as a store runner, but you can see him as a statue outside the store once a month, removed from his fountain area. (im torn between him being the way to get a perfect town and maintaining his wishing well spirit role or this, but i think it would be better to return as the spirit. in that case i think daisy mae runs a vegetable shop, selling turnips on sunday from there and joan visits once a month)

flick and cj are

the snowfolk family idea should return, but they each evolved by one parent stage: snowman is snowgramps with the bingo eyes, snowmaam is snowgran wanting icicles for the ice/frozen series, snowboy is now snowman and mails the snowman series, snowtyke is now snowboy and gives you the same stuff as new leaf, and snowtyke's proportions are repurposed for a new snowtyke with a snow ponytail and she mails you pieces of the princess series (frozen reference that i think is funny)

theres a few special characters that i have NO idea how to replace since they feel so unique and special or dont have any easy replacements

blathers/celeste becoming parents or uncle/aunt to another owl feels REALLY unnatural (only thing i can think of is blathers and brewster get married and adopt a kid)

the resetti moles should get a replacement somehow but i dont know how they would work due to autosaving, maybe they run a town data transfer service? or they create new save files to play on to stop limiting to one per cartridge/console?

the police dogs' new gen should run a community center (acab) akin to stardew's, or they adopt a kid who runs it (gay marriage option #2)

i could see porter staying? he doesnt feel like an old gen and being champ in wild world/city folk i feel like he needs to be in another game to flesh out his personality more. he could always have his old gen counterpart become rover

luna has no real replacement either and she feels equally as new as porter, but they could maybe make her a leap year holiday NPC since that's when her birthday is and replace the dream mechanic with something like the uploaded houses from HHD/HHP

leif could become an earth day holiday NPC, with earth day being like weeding day from new leaf and rewarding with different styles of topiaries, or have either a new younger sibling or leif is the older gen version of a new elderly special character sloth that raised leif and is equally as cheery and happy

the other holiday NPCs like jingle, zipper, blanca and jack dont really have a replacement but i think making them stay the same turns them into more of a mythical unaging santa claus figure, but pave and franklin could have replacements since their holidays dont have a mythical aspect to them

gulliver's pretty hard to replace since he seems too adventerous to settle down with a kid, and it doesnt make sense personally to create a brand new younger character to replace him. i think they could go back to his astronaut UFO design since its been two games now since its appearance

phineas feels like he should just age more instead of having a descendant since he was removed from new horizons and replaced with the nook mile achievements over the badge system on the resident ID card (which should come back on the passport)

pascal feels too young to be replaced by anyone, so he could set up some sort of library cave area that appears on the beach and you can only access every so often (like the reset center in previous games) to show him settling down and less nomadic than before

saharah and katrina can have brand new designs, either full replacements to be less orientalist or they have children that are around lke 10-13 years old

wisp being a ghost would be EXTREMELY STRANGE to have a relative/replacement so i think they should just change him again to be something new, maybe you find his pieces and assemble him instead of finding and then scaring him, and assembling him you find out he was an old king, but its very clearly him roleplaying as one the more times you assemble him

the other special characters i didnt mention (i looked at the wiki when making this) are katie/kaitlyn, serena, the rest of kapp'n family, and lloid: if katie comes back she could be grown up and still travelling but idk how kaitlyn could come back; serena could become the new farley???? i guess?? but i overall think farley works the best since hes the only (?) non-animal character in animal crossing (gnome) and serena is just like. chihuahua; kapp'ns family can easily also replace leila for the once a month thing and then lloid is lloid idrc

Creepypasta Pokémon League AU — Sally Williams

The youngest member of the Pokémon League, Sally made history when she was selected to be trained as a gym leader at only 8 years old. Now 9 years old, Sally has settled in as the first gym leader challengers will face in Moonstone City, and has turned her ghost-type gym into the grandest ballroom anyone could hope to attend a tea party in.

Challengers must show up in their finest garb, or they will be turned away at the door and will have to return during the next weekend’s celebration. However, those who Sally deems fit to attend her tea party must challenge three other partygoers and win in exchange for essential tips regarding tea party etiquette. Only when the challenger sits across from her at her table and displays proper tea party etiquette will Sally agree to battle them. If they win, they will leave with the Haunt Badge and the title of “Esteemed Guest.”

Background:

Ever since she was a baby, Sally had a gift for befriending ghost-type pokémon. Convinced she was cursed, her mother began to neglect her and turned a blind eye to any mistreatment other family members would subject her daughter to. Sally’s father exploited her gift by forcing his young daughter to try and train unruly ghost-types who refused to listen to their trainers. This often led to Sally being attacked and injured, which was shrugged off by her father who told her it was part of the training process.

After a certain Elite Four member stumbled upon the training center and beat the shit out of her father, Sally was removed from her family’s custody and taken in as a ward of the Pokémon League, since no blood relatives wanted to take in such a cursed child.

Careful tutelage combined with the proper love and attention a child needs caused Sally to flourish once she was taken in by the League. By the time she was 8, she was able to win the tournament meant to find a replacement for the first gym-leader who had recently retired.

Trivia:

As the youngest member of the Pokémon League, Sally is beloved by pretty much every other member of the League, and is fairly close with everyone. However, she is closest with Nina, Jane, EJ, and all of the Elite Four.

Her gym is only open on the weekends, since she’s at school during the week.

Hardly any challengers ever make it to the Elite Four, so all of the Elite Four members visit her gym frequently, and are more likely to be spotted taking her to and from school than they are to be spotted at League HQ.

Prior to defeating her in battle during the gym challenge, Sally will refer to the trainer player as “Newcomer [Trainer Name]”. After being defeated, she will refer to them as “Esteemed Guest”.

Sally’s first pokémon was Zorua, who she befriended when she was 3. Zorua evolved into Zoroark out of necessity when Sally was 6 in order to keep the girl safe from her family members.

I had the Hisuian Snow animated shorts in mind when picking Hisuian Zoroark for Sally. Whether Unovan or Hisuian, Zoroark is always depicted as being fiercely protective of its young, and I can see Sally filling in that role. Since it’s always looking out for her and keeping her safe, Sally has a particularly strong bond with Zoroark, making it her strongest team member and her signature pokémon.

Sally doesn’t have a desire to move out of the lower half of the gym leaders, and this won’t change as she gets older. Though she sees a lot more challengers than those in higher positions do, she enjoys battling and giving them a good first impression of the League.

Thanks to a certain League member’s sister, Sally is introduced to the world of acting when she’s 12, and grows up to become a renowned actress outside of her role as a gym leader.

UCONN MATT WOOD SELECTED IN NHL DRAFT

By: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - On the first day of the NHL draft, the Nashville Predators selected UConn's Matt Wood at number 15. Wood slipped down a bit further than he was expected to be selected partly because Anaheim, picking at number two, and the Arizona Coyotes at number six, made surprise choices that gave some other teams an opening to select differently than they had wanted or planned to. Speaking to ESPN's Emily Kaplan right afterward, Wood was very complimentary of his UCONN coaches led by Mike Cavanaugh. "(I was) really happy to be there and play for my coaches and they helped me to get ready for this." Wood was the fifth UCONN player since joining Hockey East to be drafted. He wore #71 for his idol Evgeni Malkin. In speaking to Kaplan, incoming Nashville GM Barry Trotz, who's replacing the retiring David Poile, was succinct in his initial evaluation, "Short term, we'll let him develop (back at UCONN). We look at the profile; he's a big body that can score. He's got a long way to go. If you wanna go far in the playoffs, you gotta score. We hope he'll exhibit (his scoring) and he checks all the boxes." Nashville has two former Huskies under their umbrella, Czechs Jachym Kondelik, the Huskies all time-assist leader, and goalie Tomas Vomacka, who they both drafted and played in the minors with the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) and the Florida Everblades (ECHL), respectively. Wood played very solidly as a 17-year-old freshman. He led the Huskies in scoring with 34 points in 35 games. Wood was superb in the IIHF U-18 bronze medal game for Canada with the game-tying goal in the last minute with the goalie pulled and made a beautiful feathered short pass to Macklin Celebrini for the game-winner in OT 4-3 win over Slovakia. Wood had a three-point performance, garnering a plus-12 and 13 points in just seven games in the tournament. He will return to Storrs next season, be among the top players in Hockey East, and is WJC eligible for Canada. He turned down an offer from the WHL Regina Pats, who drafted him and ex-Pack championship head coach, the current Regina head coach and VP of Hockey Operations John Paddock, to play there and with the first overall selection, Connor Bedard. Instead, Wood chose to come to UCONN and chart his course. At 6'4, he surpassed Tage Thompson as the highest-drafted Husky ever. A total of 10 Huskies have been drafted in the short Hockey East history of the program. RANGERS SELECTIONS The Rangers drafted 23rd overall and selected were able to have a strong player fall to them in Gabriel (Gabe) Perreault. He has lots of offensive upside potential and is heading to Boston College (HE) with linemates Will Smith (San Jose) and Ryan Leonard (Washington). They were together on the USNDTP (USHL) last fall. All three will face Wood at the XL Center when BC comes to play UConn at the XL Center in a marquee matchup. Perreault broke the team record for scoring held by Auston Matthews with 159 points. "It's cool because he's one of the guys I look up to and one of those guys to look up above you," said Perreault to ESPN. Hockey is a big part of the Perreault family. His sister Liliane just completed her collegiate career at Mercyhurst (Erie, PA) (AHA), and his brother Jacon plays with San Diego. His father, Yanic Perreault, is the skills development coach in Chicago and, for eight consecutive seasons, held the NHL's best faceoff percentage at an average of 62.89%. He played 859 games with three tours in Toronto, LA, Nashville, and his hometown Montreal. so I did my rants of this week's episodes, I'd like to clarify and write about some things before I gather my opinions to post about why the Queens of Joseon had high authority.

Actually, I don't mind The Queen dowager is shown more powerful than the Queen. It's historically accurate. TQD was in the highest rank of ladies at court in protocol while TQ was the head of them.

Then what is my problem?

First, TQD of this show keeps saying and acting like TQ and the royal consorts are not that different, so are the grand princes and princes, trying to undermine the Queen in front of the whole court, followed by Minister Hwang.

If they are not different why the hell they try so hard to replace the Queen? because IT IS different. The King already has shaky authority, and I'm surprised to see some people think Queen couldn't strengthen his power as she had weak family. He doesn't need powerful in laws to do that. Why would the late king, his father, chose her if she couldn't be helpful to his heir? We shouldn't forget the late king wanted to enhance the King's power. What he needs is legitimate grand princes to succeed him. King Hyo-Jong became the crown prince after his brother's questionable death, and his late brother's eldest son was supposed to be the heir but his father chose him instead. Hyo-Jong was harassed by the problem of his legitimacy in his entire reign just because of it even though he himself was the grand prince. But his grandson, King Sook-Jong was one of the most powerful kings in Joseon and one of the main reasons was that he had absolute legitimacy.

Anyway, TQD could have more power than TQ but it didn't mean TQD could intervene or dismiss Queen's authority. That is my second problem. They could but they rather chose not to. It's because they were breaking the court rules to do so and as TQD, they should set an example of it otherwise her behavior would cause dispute and harm and humiliate the King's authority.

HongGookYoung's younger sister was selected as consorts and the royal name of her title of Wonbin, 元(Won) means the top or the best. She had title name meaning 'the top' while the Queen was very much alive and her brother wrote and picked that name himself. The title and the process of her wedding indicates her brother was the most powerful man, trusted and favored by the King so much and all of that seemed to anger the Queen. There are some sources saying that, when Wonbin came to Queen's residence to greet her after the wedding, she was refused and if Queen doesn't want to see you when you must greet her for the protocol? You must stand and wait for the permission. It was summer and 13 year old Wonbin stood there and waited in that heavy ceremony garment. TQD and King's mother pitied on her but could never ask the Queen to accept Wonbin's greeting because she was the Queen, the head of the court ladies. So, TQD had the Queen's mother persuade her and King's mother asked the King for help but he basically said, do as the Queen says. the hours got late King ordered her to retire to her room and next day she had to go to Queen again and waited again, and since she didn't greet the Queen she couldn't greet the TQD and King's mother. A few days later, Queen finally gave her the permission to enter. it's one simple example of what kind of power the Queen had.

Predictably and not unfairly, a lot of people around here are bashing the US Supreme Court. Equally predictably and (again) not unfairly, a lot of my conservative friends and family were saying the same thing after Obergefell and other cases that seemed friendly to progressive goals. What right did nine unelected people have to set laws for all of us, etc. And I agree, the current court structure has major problems, but not so much we should do away with it entirely. Laws shouldn’t just be settled by majority-vote and sometimes you do need an umpire of the field. That said, and knowing that precisely no one is looking for my advice here, I do have a suggestion I think might help:

Make SCOTUS like jury duty, but for judges.

See, the biggest problems I have with the current SCOTUS set-up can be traced to the fact it’s the same people making the decisions time and again. There are loads of problem with this- conflicts of interest because the people who got them on the bench are often the same people they’re passing judgement on, the gamification of when justices retire because they want an ideologically similar president to appoint their replacement, painting justices as “liberal” or “conservative” based on who they were appointed by so there’s less confidence in their decisions, whether that’s fair or not.

Probably the biggest issue, though, is the people asking the court to review a case already have a pretty good idea of how it will be decided. If I was a pro-life activist (obviously I’m not), this particular set of nine is one I’d much rather hear a case because it was pretty obvious to court-watchers a majority of these particular nine people were ready to overturn Roe. So people wanting Roe overturned were eager to put forward a case. It’s like entering an art contest when you know the judges just really like paintings done in shades of blue, only with something a heck of a lot more important than taking home that prize.

Imagine instead if we weren’t using the same judges to decide every case. Say we had a list of judges serving anywhere in the US with certain qualifications: maybe they’d been on the bench at least ten years, hadn’t been sanctioned, whatever you want. If you’re on the list, you can be called up for any SCOTUS case. You’re put through a vetting process like voir dire, and if there’s not a good reason why you’re invalidated, you’re one of the nine for that case. Once nine people are on the docket the case goes forward. Whoever pushes to have the case considered by SCOTUS has to do it before they know who will be hearing it, and while there’s of course a chance the docket of judges will be biased in some way, it at least wouldn’t be the same bias each time and you couldn’t know it beforehand. On average, the court would be as young/old, white/non-white, male/female, liberal/progressive as the judiciary as a whole was. The only way to influence that would be to influence judge selection at the local level, which means the power struggle would be much less concentrated.

And just because there’s a risk of drawing an unfriendly set of judges for your case, people would be much less driven to ask the course to take up these ideological cases unless they thought they had a good legal argument that would convince people from all kinds of judicial philosophies. Even just getting nine people who don’t know each other before to listen to the facts and discuss together until they reach a decision sounds like a big step forward. They have to actually listen and compromise (or convince each other) in that situation.

I’m not saying this is a perfect set-up. Probably it could be improved on, for instance, what kind of issues would disqualify someone from being selected, and who would judge that disqualifying process. Still, I think the basic set up would be light years ahead of our current procedures in so many ways.
