I don’t know if this has been picked up on before, but I am losing my mind over it so I want to share my journey with you. May I present my descent into: Zen’s Algae Report.

It all started when I paused the beginning of episode 14 to see what Zen was writing about and was amazed and highly entertained to find that it seemed to be a report on, of all things, aquatic algae.

This naturally piqued my interest, so, being a loveable-yet-rather-obsessive-scamp with a passion for words and too much time on my hands, I set to work attempting to transcribe what he wrote in that brief scene.

In the transcription I put hyphens (---) wherever the next part was not visible and put asterisks around words I believed to have figured out, though they were partially obscured (Zen’s hand moves in the scene so more words were revealed). Multiple asterisks just mean I have a note about it at the end. 👍

"--- erie could experience one --- severe harmful** algal bloom --- a potential measure of 8.7 on --- the severity index, according --- oceanographic institution.

--- which have different colors *and textures*. Blooms can appear in a variety of colors that depend on the algal species. The aquatic ecosystem and organism --- cyanobacterial blooms, the formal name for the blue-green algae, are the problem here. Their presence means cities and local governments must *spend more* to --- water, puts swimmers in *high concentration*”.***

**this was written as one word - 'severeharmful' - and had me stumped for a while :') I like the thought of this word existing in the ans-verse and the characters using it :D

***after spending too much time rewinding and pausing to see parts of words as zen's hand moves to reveal them, I could make out 'hi --- oncentrat'. I believe it's meant to say 'high concentration' but WHO KNOWS

It was only AFTER typing all this that I found out The Truth.

The first half-word that was at the top of the page was bugging me because I couldn’t figure out the letters. So, being the loveable-yet-slightly-perfectionistic-scamp that I am, I racked my brains over it until I realised it could read as “-ake”. The following word, “erie,” hadn’t made sense at all, so I couldn’t see how I could use it to try to figure out what this “-ake” word before it could be. I decided to google the word “erie” in case it did mean something that I was unaware of. And guess what I found?

“Lake Erie” is apparently the fourth-largest lake (by surface area) of the five Great Lakes in North America. This may be common knowledge to Americans(?) but as a loveable-yet-entirely-European-scamp this was news to me. I was obviously thrilled as this worked for both words and made sense, but I was also surprised that Zen appeared to be writing about a very real, and not ans-verse, American lake. 🤔

I wanted to see just how much of His Algae-Loving Highness Zen’s report was true, so I searched for “lake erie cyanobacterial algae”

Something I love in ANS is that Shirayuki wears the things gifted to her, and not just as a one-time thing; ever since being given earrings by Yuzuri she regularly wears them, and the hair ornament that Obi gave her she wore for the majority of her Tanbarun stay, and then she mentions how she wears it as a good luck charm and was distressed when she left it behind after going travelling. (I think she also wore it at another fancy occasion but I don’t remember which). When Ryuu and Obi get her a new hair ornament she wears it almost immediately.

I like how these gifts are not just used as something to move a scene along, they are significant to Shirayuki and mark progression in her relationships.

Also! You can see how much she treasures them just by the fact that she continually wears them, no comment needed, no close-up necessary. (Apart from the first time Obi noticed she was wearing his gift, then we had a zoom and an OMG moment from him, understandable, Obi)

Katie's 2021 Reading Stats

Wooo, it's the time of year again, when I get to crunch my GoodReads numbers re how many books of each type and format I've read. :D As usual, the definition of "book" is rather loose: it can be a picture book (I read a lot of these to keep my daily streak going before it broke), a single comic, a comic collection, a middle grade book, an audiobook/audio drama of any length, a full-length adult novel, etc. Numbers are rounded to the nearest percent so probably won't add up to 100.

GoodReads goal: 150 books Actual number read: 182 books

By Genre: Aspec characters - 14 books (8%) Star Wars canon novels - 15 (8%) Star Wars Legends novels - 17 (9%) Star Wars canon comics - 8 (4%) Star Wars Legends comics - 3 (2%) Star Wars reference/misc - 13 (7%) Picture books - 36 (20%) Other - 74 (41%)

By Format: Audiobooks - 45 (25%) eBooks - 114 (63%) Physical books - 21 (12%)

I can't be bothered to find my post from last year, but I imagine this years audiobook percent was higher because I'm finally allowed to have headphones at work again! =D To that number's just going to increase next year. eBooks continue to be my preferred, with phsyical books pretty much reserved only for reference books that can't really be experienced on a phone screen and books that aren't available as an ebook.

The weirdest thing I must admit I read: "Her Fertile Futa Benefits: Fruitful Futa-on-Female Perks." What can I say? I'm still so amused people are making money on wild sexy fanfiction tropes. You go, babe.

I relistened to the first five books in the Extinction Cycle and plan to get back to the other two and then the four Extinction Cycle: Dark Age ones I haven't read before after that. Still really like them; the characters are just so good. That'll probably happen after I finish with the Grishaverse, of which I've just finished the Shadow and Bone trilogy. Liked it okay, heard Six of Crows is better (and more queer) and hope to find that true.

As far as my faves and least faves...

You've all had to live with me whining about Thrawn Ascendancy and The High Republic. We do not stan. XD We will not spend more time on those here.

I had seven five-star books: 1. X-wing: Rogue Squdron unabridged audiobook (shocking no one ^_^) 2. Marvel Fearless and Fantastic!: Female Super Heroes Save the World 3. Star Wars: I Love You. I Know.: Lessons in Love and Friendship 4. Star Wars: The Poster Collection 5. I Wish You Happiness (picture book) 6. You Got This: A Tale of Courage (picture book) 7. Practical Magic: A Beginner's Guide to Crystals, Horoscopes, Psychics, and Spells

As for next year's forecast, it looks a lot like in the past: I'll keep reading my Star Wars, likely whining about every new thing that comes out. I'll also continue my journey through Legends. I'm only eleven Young Jedi Knights books away from my dream of finaly starting NJO! XD You'll also see there's a witchy book on that list above, a topic I've become curious about lately, and though I'm not gonna run off and becom Wiccan, I do have a short stack of similar books on my TBR. Thinking about setting my 2022 GR goal at 175, but haven't quite decided yet.

I thought I was being clever changing up my main url and following Coleson -> son of Cole pattern. And the fics I read are scrumptious like bread. I am the fox that devours them, yum.

I used to queue everything on my likes but then I stared liking too much so I just reblog when I like it now. I got the reposts I am putting up set up on a queue right now, but that’s it.

5. why did you start your blog in the first place?

I made this blog to start reblogging fics I like. I was a ghost reader for a long time and took forever to build up courage to dm writers to tell them I love their work. I saw posts that reblogs help authors out so awhile after building up more courage I made this blog to share what I love reading. Honestly I’ve been so happy to make the plunge into this blog because I love seeing other people so happy when I tell them I love their work. If anyone is a ghost reader, I feel y’all, do your best to send bloggers some love. It can feel intimidating but once you get used to it super easy! this is an invitation to come say hi!

6. why did you choose your icon?

Because I’m weak for Chef Dude and he looks absolutely adorable. It was soon after I sent the meme to a friend “confused but in Australian”. I wanted my blog to display multiple groups too and not just BTS.

7. why did you choose your header?

My mobile header I photoshopped together myself. I wanted to display all the members in their beautiful glory. I think the style of thinly cut pictures put together is an interesting aesthetic too. My web main page header I wanted it to feel classy with some black and white pics of my favorite idols. The header on all other pages, I just love Sehun and Chanyeol and their attitude.

I took this as reblog creator works and not like reblog this or bad/good things happen oops. I never pay attention to those. For the reblog creator posts,I’m tired of seeing them but they are obviously here because a large number people aren’t reblogging. Just imagine if people reblogged more, then we wouldn’t need those posts anymore.

I do!! But only a couple awesome people answer them so I feel kinda dejected and don’t do them much even though I want to. Bless those who interact with asks, y’all are awesome.

THE TRUE KINGS *Ch. 1 “The 1st Victim”

Face Claim: OC Count Isaac Bartus by Alexis Popas, Duchess Olivia Nervarkis by Sophie Turner (but will sometimes change to Lily Cole) and King Liam by Daniel Henny other Characters will have face claims as well in the future

Author’s Note: Y’all I am so nervous right now! This is the most I have ever worked on a fanfic so I really hope you all enjoy it. It has taken me a month to get enough written up where I feel I am ready post it. Drake and Riley’s story will be in the future chapters as well. HERE IS THE TRUE KING!

Summary: With the unsuccessful end of Cordonia’s new King’s social season comes new challenges. Olivia is finally over her un-reciprocated feelings for Liam, she questions should she give her old friend Isaac another chance, Liam has to prove to his people he can rule his country without a queen. And everyone has to watch their backs as a new threat descends upon Cordonia. The True Kings are here and the only thing they want more than the crown is blood.

Rating: NSFW (I’m going to rate every chapter Mature and NSFW because there is a great deal of violence sex mature subject matter course language and probably a lot of other bad things I cant think about right now.)

Mick was patting himself on the back for how well he could mask his thoughts. As he served each privileged unworthy noble their fancy champain at their fancy ball with their fancy clothes, through his smile he could only think--

“In a few hours I will kill you. All of you."

This job had been the best one yet finding a gig through the dark web wasn’t easy. Many people who would inquire any type of kill would eventually chicken out before he could even get his hands dirty. But not this one. No, this one came with a round trip ticket –several tickets for his crew- a fancy hotel and best of all money. Yes, this job paid in folds. And if all Mick had to do was find a willing crew to help, fly to some foreign place called Cordonia and kill some cocky basted who thinks he is literally a king that money would be easy takings.

He tried his best to keep the pleasantries but he was getting antsy, and the damn bow tie Boss made him and his crew wear was starting to throttle him.

“Excuse me young man.” Mick turns around to see a gruffly old geezer staring at him. He assumed the man would probably look a lot younger if it weren’t for that permanent scowl on his face.

“What—I mean ...Yes Sir?”

“Well as I told one of the other waiter’s the toast will be starting soon. I'm sure the King paid a great deal of money for you and your serving crew to be here it would be such a shame if I have to come to him with this mater...Hmm” He coughs and tries to straighten his chest the bastard didn’t even know how close he was to death. “As I explained to your other server, Beaumont’s must toast with Merlot. I have been asking for a bottle of Cheval Blanc for the past 20 minutes! I can’t stress enough how important this—“

“Sir let me get right on that!” Mick tried his best to look hospitable but he clearly looked agitated, his smile showing all front teeth made him looked pained like someone was sticking him with safety pins. He brushes past the old man deciding it would be best to let the geezer have his last drink than to wring his neck right there.

Mick walks over to one of the double door, waiting is a tall lanky waiter leaning on the wall, holding up an empty serving tray in his hand.

"Geez Fuller! Boss said we're supposed to look like the staff. Put some drinks on your tray at least Geez!" His exasperated sigh is loud and makes Fuller straighten up.

"Sorry Mick but this party is boring. Hell they can't even get drunk right. These pompous windbags need another glass of wine like they need a hole in their heads. Heh heh."

The two chuckle to themselves. "That may be true but we have to look the part Boss is paying us good money to hit our targets and we wont get the chance if they fire us before the toast." Mick looks around the ballroom the crowd filled with wide eyes and laughter. Putting a few drinks on his tray Fuller leans toward Mick, "So which ones you plan to pop first. I was thinking that short haired blonde over there. She has that whole tragic "die while your young and beautiful" thing going for her. I figure I'd do her the favor."

"Let me guess you tried to flirt with her?"

"Heh Yeah the stuck up bitch just laughed in my face....all I said was "hi" and she cackled and walked away like I was a joke... we will see whose laughing tonight." Fuller chuckles as he watches the girl in the crowd, it wasn't hard to spot that emerald dress.

"Focus Fuller, we have two targets the king and his mistress. I need as many bullets in them as possible. After we kill them then you can get whoever else you want. Speaking of which have you seen the King?"

"Oh yeah he stepped out of here bout 5 minutes ago with some red hot little number. Heh, by the way he looked at her they weren't going to do much talking." Fuller laughs is uncontrollable as a noble reaches for a glass. The noble gives him a questioning look before walking away. "If you ask me that's the best way to die, a fancy party, tasty food, the finest woman on her knees.. wooo! That's a lucky man!"

"That lucky man is going to die tonight, you fool." Mick looks into the crowd seeing the old geezer from a moment ago, they lock eyes as the man raises his wrist in the air and starts tapping on his shiny watch in frustration.

"Look I gotta go...give everyone the signal to be ready. It's time to lock the doors. Keep your's open so I can get back in. Boss all ready left so it's go time I need you all to focus.

"Chill Mick, this party is all ready dead!...Get it dead Ha!"

As he walks out the door he can still hear Fuller's laugh. Even through the music, he can hear the sounds of the doors locking on the other ends of the ball room. Fuller gave the signal, everyone is ready, now the show is only missing it's leading players: The king, and his mistress.

Mick tried to find the damn uppity crap drink that geezer asked for but he didn't want to go too far from the ballroom. It was almost showtime.

"Do you know how you looked out there? With his hands all over you like that? You have to think about your reputation " "My reputation? You dragged me out here to tell me to think about my reputation?! Liam I don't think I need your help in that department. In fact I think you are the last one since you're the reason my reputation is what it is." "I have no idea what you are talking about. I have done nothing but protect and defend you. When you were being blackmailed who got the Intel to help find out who did it? I'm just trying to be your friend here and tell you you are doing yourself great disservice the way you are acting out there." "Liam I could go out there bare naked and what everyone says about me wouldn't be any different, it would just add to it. That the only reason I am still around your court is that I foolishly think you will marry me. Yeah now they may think I'm a whore too but....what's the difference between a dumb fool waiting for love that never comes and a whore? So thank you for the pep talk Liam but I don't need your help not now not ever. So don't drag me out here and act like you're giving friendly advice when really you're just jealous some has the balls to openly show they want to be with me, Liam."

Mick was about to past the bickering couple when he heard that name.

That's the King's name right? He quickly ducks to a nearby door, peeking over the corner to see if the two noticed him. They didn't, both were too busy trying to get the last word. He had them! Both the king and more than likely the mistress together and alone. This was fate; he could do the job right now and have time to grab some of those cream puffs before anyone even found their bodies. As he reaches for his gun he hears footsteps approaching he ducks further into the door trying his best to blend into the shadows.

"You know what? Do what you want I'm trying to be a friend and look out for you. I have to go give this speech. Maybe you should wait before coming in behind me."

The king walks right past him before he could get a shot.

Damn!

He leaves the shadows of the door into the light of the hallway as he watches the King walk into the ballroom.

"Who are you?"

He quickly turns to see the mistress. He forgot about her. Fuller wasn't lying, she is a beauty, but her eyes are staring daggers at him.

"I asked you a question, sir, and don't try to to say your a waiter those combat boots are a dead giveaway."

Before he could react she sees the gun in his hand and her eyes grow wide. As if on cue, she kicks the gun out of his hand.

"Guards!" She screams but only once. The lights go out. His hands are over her mouth in a second but her screams wouldn't have mattered anyway since the ballroom was clearly in its own chaos.

Damn they started without me!

He needed to get in there this was his mission how stupid would he look if it was his men who took out the King and not him. But this fiery mistress was going crazy in his arms, flinging from left and right trying to spring free. He swings his body fast and hard to the wall. He hears the dull thumb sound her head makes on contact, then she stops moving.

The lights come on and he sees the people running from the ballroom.

Shit.

On another side of the castle it is quiet and serine, nothing at all like the madness just a few yards away. There's a young woman in the driver seat of a large black van. She isn't startled by the sounds of the van's back doors opening. In fact she's been waiting for the ten men to come back for hours. The van shakes slightly as they pile in. She can clearly hear that Fuller is still wired from adrenaline. Maybe it all worked out they killed that King guy now they will get paid and she can leave these psycho guys alone for good.

"I got one of them I just know it! Whoo! Shit this is better than sex I tell ya! Who you guys get?"

"I think I stabbed some girl. We should have practiced. Shoot everyone was running like crazy. Who'd you get Stunner?"

"It seems like you losers forgot the mission and I didn't see Mick so me and Marty went for the King."

"Whoo....No Shit?"

"Yeah No shit. The bastard clothes lined me, couldn't even draw my damn gun on him. So I moved on to the other target. What the fuck happened to you Marty?"

“Dude! He punch me! He cracked my effin’ mask I didn't want my cover to be blown so I shot some random dude and I bolted. I think we really should have been informed on his defensive skills."

The men all agree in their own ways, as the young girl in the driver's seat turns to them.

"Where's Mick guys?"

They all shrug, scratching their heads trying to think of the last time they saw him.

"You idiots probably didn't even kill the targets AND you lost the guy that has our money?"

Her question never got a chance to be answered as the van’s back doors swing open once more. A body dressed in a long gown is thrown Into the van's floor right at the men's feet. There's a bag over her head and her hands are tide behind her back. Her screams are muffled as she squirms on the floor.

"So you started without me huh?" Everyone's attention moves from the body to Mack as he closes the van's door and sits next to Fuller. “Did anyone get the King?” No one answers him, too confused and embarrassed to speak.

"Mick you never came back and...well when the King started his speech...that's what we practiced. We couldn't miss our chance.” Fuller trails off. “What's with the dress?" He points to the squirming body below them.

"Oh, her? Well with you all fucking up the plan I had to make some adjustments to make sure we get paid....boys bow to the King's mistress." Mick's chin perked up as he watches all the men stare in awe, everyone but Stunner.

"Um... Mick you sure you got the mistress? I could have sworn I shot her."

"As sure as my name is Mick. Heard the two having a little lover's spat during the party. This is definitely our girl. I figure we hold her for ransom get a couple extra bucks. We can always kill the king later."

He lifts the body placing her in his lap.

"Be fore we kill her I have got's to see what make's her so special."

Mick's hand slides up her thigh. He bunches up her dress in his hand, and as if on cue her head leans forward before rearing back slamming into Mick's nose.

"Shit!" he howls before throwing her back on the van's floor.

The group chuckles until Mick looks up.

"Well why are we not moving? Let's Go!"

The young woman turns over the engine and begins to drive through the deep trees just as she was instructed. But she can't help but watch the body on the floor through her review mirror. She bet the girl behind that mask was a spoiled brat who didn't appreciate how good her life was. She also bet, being a King's mistress, she had to be beautiful. The young woman laughed at herself, she was jealous of a kidnapped soon to be dead mistress. But despite how senseless her feelings were she couldn't look away from the body and those beautiful deep red ringlets of curls that spilled out of the bag covering her head.

Wow ok so my tribe is really cute and wholesome so far. I'm playing with JG, Timmy and Stephen which is cool bc i lowkey know them all but I've never played with them so thats fun! Cal is the best, i would love to work with Cal, JG, Timmy, and Zabbey. But i’m still gonna gove the other new guys a chance, still very early days to start making alliances. That being said I’m still very happy we have had a majority on a call, make some ties. *glares at atomic “all-stars”*

Zach

So uh...so far nothing. Unless I’m completely out of the loop. I really like my tribe mate Zabbey. She seems cool and we have the same sense of humor. I really hope to align with her, but we’ll see how it goes. I also really admire Maynor for volunteering to sit since he has to work today. So far I think our tribe vines well. No tea to spill yet, but I’m sure there’s more to come.

Many people werre talking about drag race and I've never seen it and I kinda knew this would happen to me at some point in mylife when I end up being the bad gay who hates Lady Gaga and hasn't seen drag race and we're here folks. lol I guess I'll stay quiet and hopefully noone will find out

Night one was, interesting to say the least. I was a little worried because I knew that I had to work during the first hour of the game and with new people I did not want to miss out on the bonding opportunities. Shockingly few were active among the noobies mostly Zach and Cal. The vets on my tribe, I actually know which is wild. Stephen and I have played together in the past, not together but there is for sure no bad feelings, that I know of. Abbey and Timmy I have never played with them but I know of them from the community. I have always wanted to play with them and excited for this opportunity. I know from a viewer this will come off as boring but I do feel that sticking with the vets is going to be smart at least in the early stages but mark my words, if I have any say, Abbey will be the last boot before merge. There is no way hell, I am letting her get any where near merge, I am not dumb no what she can do. Sorry Abbey, you're queen but the queen is not gonna stay queen. I really want to make a three tight alliance with Stephen and Timmy and ride with them but they could always tip off Abbey and use it to their advantage so I need to just chill and let things play out. I feel that if we are to go to tribal in the early stages, I can picture two noobs being easily targeted for inactivity. Oh, let's also talk about how I got freaking 20% disadvantage night one like I always do, and then turn around to get a 10% advantage the next day. I'm mess but I'm gonna keep eating these grapes because they're pretty good.

So I was really sure I was going to be in the first alliance of the season amongst the vets but nope that didn't happen. I am in a unprecedented alliance with Abbey, yeah the person I said I want to make sure gets out before merge and Zach. Our alliance is called Two Gays and a Bi-by ... iconic as fuck. With a smaller tribe starting size with 8, smaller alliances are key plus I feel that we can easily pull some side votes for numbers to honestly keep our alliance alive and active. This makes targeting Abbey really hard cause it could turn Zach against me. I will have to be very cautious, how I go about this. I also talked to Cal and was making sure I connected with him cause I know he was putting work in on Timmy and Stephen last night. That is something I will have to monitor. That can not be allowed to happen. I think working with Timmy would be fun and cool but it's looking like that if after a early not so active noob goes and we need to find another target, I think Timmy would be a fine first threat to knock out leaving Stephen and Cal up in the air.

Lots of stuff! I was late to the party at the intro but got to chat with Timmy, JG, and Stephen. I learned about their past in the community as well as talked about the many moods of trying to learn greek. One such mood is probably me always confusing the "pi" sign and the one shaped like the letter "p" leading to accidentally translating baby as fool. Ironically I really don't want to be seen as either while a baby or fool especially since I'm new. I've really enjoyed meeting my tribe mates but I'm afraid to see where the pleasant meet and greet ends and the game begins.

Maynor

My thoughts on this tribe is that i like everyone and i dont want any of them to leave. Ive been trying to talk to everyone n try to be social player since im sitting out the first challenge.

welp. i still dont really know whats going on but... IM HAVING FUN. Ive talked with Dylan C a bunch and we have gotten to know each other pretty well. The greek challenge? a MESS. I havent been able to do a lot and the little i have done is not even worth mentioning. I hope the next challenge is a little easier for me but until then... YAY!

Maynor

Last night Brittany and I started talking and decides since we are newbies that we will work as a duo to keep each other safe since the game has newbies & returning players. As of right now she is my #1 but i am talking to others.

Second day has been very interesting. Ive been talking to Cal and J.G. pretty much all day seperately. And both want to align and J.G brought up maybe doing three person alliance and he said we should try n bring in Cal. In my head i was like yes. So now its an allince of me, Cal, and J.G. which is great. If its all 100% (my end it is) then this is going to be great.

Timmy

Wow, I haven't made a confessional yet. WE WON IMMUNITY!!! I'm very relaxed now, but also I don't think I would have gone anyways so woot woot. I did the worst on my tribe so that's not too great (pretty sure the 810 from the post was my score), but I still did better than the entire other tribe so wooo. I'm so happy to finally be in a game with Abbey and I really want to work with her and we have been talking already about the nothingness that has come from our idol hunts so that's good. I still haven't talked to Zach or Brittany so I need to do that soon, Zach seems nice in the tribe chat but Brittany seems nonexistent at the moment even though she did well in the challenge.

Maynard just brought together me and JG together to start an alliance all while the results of the immunity challenge was finished. I was nervous but not only did we win but we have an amazing three that is called ΜΞΨ(after the first letters of our names), which is called that thanks to me! I just thought it'd be fun to name it like a frat since we've been learning greek and also hopefully dominate! JG and Maynard are great guys and I'm excited to work with them as ΜΞΨ but I also am keeping in mind ΜΞ(me lol) in the game for when we do have to go to tribal! Mu Xi Psi out!

For the first tribal, I'm obviously worried. As for targets, I'm not sure there are any at this moment. I guess I'm voting based on tribal performances, but I would be open to other people's suggestions. I would consider myself closest to Matt, Dylan C and Mitch so those three are who I would want to vote with.

Stephen

I found half a “special idol” in the mangroves! While I am happy and I will still search for the other half I do have to decide if I want to tell anyone. In a previous season I told one person and they betrayed me (thanks tim) but in the end that led the person who had other half to reach out to me. However I can’t expect the same thing to happen this game, every games a new game. So I think I’m gonna keep it to myself, if somebody else tells me or is revealed to have the other half I might tell them, but for now I’m just gonna search for the other half and be content that no one can use the whole thing against me.

Zach

We won the first challenge!!!! I was expecting it to be a lot closer tbh. But I have an alliance of 3 that I’m fairly confident in! I wouldn’t say I completely trust them yet though. Both of them have played before and so it’s scary to think that they might just be playing me. I guess time will tell. I’m also curious to see what other alliances will show themselves when we finally start talking and going to trial. Also a little worried that I might be playing to hard out of the gate. We’ll see and I’ll probably get used to playing as time goes on.

My mom (Jay) has officially cancelled me y'all. My tribe freaking won by over 13 to almost 2k. Holy crap. Like did the vets on the other side never play this comp before? Like with maybe a little work and patience, you could get easily 1500XP without really grinding maybe more. I am honestly perfectly o.k. with these results I wanted us to win badly because of having to go to work tonight, I did not want to bother with the stress of that. Plus, the night before my work had an emergency so I am definitely not in a place ready to emotionally invest and make a move in the game. ΜΞΨ is an alliance that formed between Maynor, Cal, and myself. The alliance names from the first letter of our names in Greek to kinda make a frat/sor name. Maynor approached me wanting to make a final 2 and go really far. I am down with this for now of course, this game is constantly changing and moving. He asked me if we wanted to make a threesome to help our odds and asked me for suggestions. I suggested Cal because I knew I wasn't in any other alliances with him yet and this will allow me to keep an eye on him making sure he doesn't get close to Timmy or Stephen. Before I went off for the night Stephen and I officially talked about how the vets probably should create an official thing because it wouldn't hurt for us to work at least together in the early stages of the game. We decided that it should be discussed and formed today. Once that happens your boy is literally in an alliance with everyone besides Brittany and she actually did really well in the challenge. This scares me that she is either close to others or just someone I am not gonna be able to connect with. I heard from others that people are forgetting she's here, at the least she is a competitor. Either this is gonna blow up in my face or gonna allow me to position myself really well going into merge. Mama mia, my tribe isn't going tribal but I feel I made some of the biggest moves. Time will tell, I guess

SO A lot has happened since I last confessed!!!! I am now in a baby alliance with JG and Zach which is wholesome. Zach is super hype and its v endearing and im a stan. JG also said him and Stephen have talked about a vet alliance which would be the easier way to go but I don't really want to. I don't want to play this game based off of outside relationships, I'm not necessarily going to align with Cam and Dylan is we make it onto the same tribe. In more impotant news ya bITCH FOUND THE IDOL! My literal third search! Timmy told me that he was looking in the hotel rooms so I was gonna do that but then Jay said roof and I was like why not and my witch ass gave that offering and got me a sexy idol! I don't plan on telling anyone about it unless I absolutely have to!

I came into this game after 2 nights had already gone by. I am really scared that I will be voted out tonight because I would be the easy since not very many people know me.

The first tribal is the most important tribal, at least from a game perspective. That’s why I’m taking a gamble and trying to target after Blake. We need people who will win challenges, and after his score of 15 I’m not sure if he’s best suited. I need 4 votes to tie. I believe I’ll have Alex & Maddie, so right now I’m focusing on the fourth vote. Dylan C seems wary about this vote, so I’m trying to convince her now. I told her that “other people have mentioned Blake” when really it’s just me lol. I don’t wanna tell anyone else, simply because I don’t want people thinking I’m playing too hard, so I’m hoping the votes will tie or the votes will be spread. I’m taking a bit of a gamble because this could put a target on my back, but I do love gambles so I can’t resist. This will probably come back to bite me, but it is redemption island so I guess that’s always a fallback.

Missed a lot of discussion about past games because I was meeting up with someone impromptu. It's daunting but also exciting to face the experience of some of my tribe mates. It's the feeling of a glorious revolution of the new players against the old! I aim to learn as well, but also have really enjoyed speaking with my tribe but fear people are getting wind of the ΜΞΨ alliance since me, JG, and Maynor are speaking a lot. I gotta figure out my mist! Mu Xi Psi out!

Yeet,one last confessional before the round is over. I am honestly really anxious to see what happens at this tribal whether a vet or noob will go. While I do not think that this will be a prevalent theme in decision making, it something I am keeping in the back of my mind. I don't want people to be able use that against me to vote me out. That's why I will feel really inclined to stick with the vets if a vet is voted out tonight over a noob. Who knows what that tribe will do they have several options.

Finally, officially the vets (Abbey, Timmy, and Stephen as well as myself) finally came together to form an official alliance called The Nursing Home. I am really keeping an eye on Timmy and Stephen, they give me some minor sketch vibes but it could just be me over analyzing.

I’m getting a concerning amount of radio silence form some cast members. Is it because they’re inactive or ignoring me?? Lmao mattI'm so excited to be on Kalokairi! This has been a lifelong dream. Who wouldn't want to live on a gorgeous Greek island, where every piece of drama or sadness is resolved by breaking out into 70s Disco Pop and choreographing elaborate dance routines featuring wacky props like scuba fins? And to be able to play the game of Survivor while doing it? Wild!

My tribe is literally so wholesome. The other "veterans" are all so fantastic, and the newbies are so pure and fun and I love talking to them. The only person I haven't gotten to speak one on one to is Alex, and it seems like that's the case for the rest of the tribe. After getting THWUMPED in that immunity challenge, it's nice that we can all come together in a cohesive vote to hopefully power through in the future.

I found a leather necklace at the market, but it doesn't actually do anything until I combine it with another part. I'm not sure if my best strategy is to keep it hidden or let everyone know I have it in case they're also looking for it, but I think I'm going to keep it to myself while I search a bit more.

I'd really like to work with Cameron long term, and I have a crush on Dylan R okay that is all goodnight.

Wooo, the session went extremely well! The fighter is adorable and tries to make friends with everyone (he sent a care package of cookies to the kobold they captured who wound up in jail, and then refused to fight a blink dog and kinda sorta befriended it), the ranger spent half the session with a map mimic trying to suffocate him (shouldn’t have used mapquest), the druid used thaumaturgy to yell back at a screaming devil entity and spent the rest of the session going around saying “WHAT???” every few seconds, and the sorcerer nearly got killed by the fighter’s blink dog and had strong words with him about appropriate pets and the training thereof.

In the scenario that had about a 25% chance of player death (and I figured about a 10% chance of a TPK), they all pulled through, although two players were unconscious with at least one failed death saving throw at one point.

Exactly half of them failed the Modify Memory spell and the other half succeeded, so I got them to keep their rolls a secret so they wouldn’t know who passed and who failed (one of them rolled a nat 20, so he’s the only one who knows for sure), then pulled the two who failed aside and told them they just saw a couple assassins take down the margrave and run off on the second floor of the casino. I left them in a room alone after that and talked to the other two, explaining that they heard voices in their heads (via Message spell) trying to implant a memory for Modify Memory, but failing, so they spotted the real assassin, who saw them. They rolled initiative, rolled too low, and were both nearly perma-killed by two shots from this really overpowered enemy.

So, basically, the two who failed the Modify Memory save saw this assassination happen, started to run up the stairs after the assassins, then turned around and found the other half of their party unconscious and bleeding out on the floor for no apparent reason. Everyone was so tense. The two players whose characters were unconscious were just dead silent when the other two players came back to the table joking around and having no idea what was going on, and once shit went down everyone’s hands were visibly shaking. They managed to stabilize their friends and drag them out through a secret passage under the casino, and I casually mentioned them walking right past the actual assassins, which only the unconscious party members knew about and therefore couldn’t share. And I got to end on one heck of a cliffhanger with the reveal that the person who helped get them to the secret passage is their main suspect in the first session’s murder mystery. A+++, good times all around. Hell of a way to finish up level 1.

The golden sunlight touched the grass and filtered through the trees, bathing the forest path in front of them in a soft golden hue. He looked around at the trees, and then his eyes flickered down to the hand grasping his, fingers interlaced.

His eyes flickered back up to the person, next to him, only to meet the familiar dark lavender irises he’d become accustomed to seeing over time. Even with being accustomed, his breath hitched.

Kaede grinned at him, pulling him forward. She had on a white dress that seemed to be patterned with some song. It fell to her knees, and slightly puffed out at the waist, where a black belt separated the top half and the bottom half.

The blonde must have noticed him staring, because she dropped his hand and stepped out in front of him and twirled.

He watched as the dress caught the air and puffed out around her, making her laugh freely. She looked her age - not how he’d last remembered seeing her.

He was glad. This was what she deserved.

“C’mon, Shuichi! We’re almost to the end of the forest!” She cheered, holding out her hand to him.

Shuichi smiled softly, reaching out to take her hand in his once again.

But this time - he’d never get to take it.

A collar came from somewhere, cuffing her neck. Her eyes went wide as the clothes and scenery flickered.

Her dress - to a skirt and vest.

A beautiful forest - to a deadly killing game.

Again and again it flickered as Kaede was drug up and up, to a place that he couldn’t reach no matter how hard he tried.

Memories are trickling back now.

Kaede on the giant piano.

She’d been skipped from key to key, drug back and forth while suffocated by the rope she was dangling from.

Just enough to kill her mercilessly.

Just enough to allow her glimpses of eye contact with him, sadness, and longing, and need there, haunting him like ghosts. Although, he probably looked the same, beside the tears.

The light caught in her hair as Kaede hung there, her face clouded in shadows. A sick feeling welled up within him.

And as he watched in those final few moments, the light caught something else, too. Her face seemed to turn up to the light, and it caught her wet lashes, the gleam of tears on her cheek - and that ever present, ever peaceful smile.

He remembered what she had said to him.

“You are my wish.”

Yes, he remembered it now.

Just before the collar had taken her, she'd stepped forward, kissed both of his cheeks, and wiped the remaining tears on his face away with her thumb and hands. He’d leaned into her touch ever so slightly at that moment, watching her smile up at him with warmth, even though she knew this was the end for her.

And then - the collar came. Desperately, he reached out for her, and she reached back, fingertips brushing his before she was ripped away from him. But he had seen it.

That smile.

That trust.

That blush.

That hope.

“Shuichi! Take care of them! Survive, even if that’s the only thing you can do!”

And then, the piano came down.

Her blood had gone everywhere, mixed in with pieces of the robotic bear.

The tears seemed to be swallowing him now - taking him over like a tsunami washing away items on a beach.

His eyes slid shut - and he began to shake. His knees almost buckled.

Shuichi tried with everything he had to breathe, but it felt like his throat had swollen shut.

He couldn’t breathe.

Oh god, he couldn’t breathe.

He couldn’t-

A searing pain welled up in his cheek, and he fell to the ground. A salty taste invaded his mouth.

Finally, he took a deep breath in.

He was grounded now.

He looked up at Kaito, listening closely. His eyebrows furrowed.

He was grounded, wasn’t he?

So why -

*Ding-dong!*

“Huh?”

*Ding-dong!*

“What the…?”

He stood, only to find everyone suddenly frozen. The Kaede from earlier was back, but she had an ugly scarring from the rope around her neck.

She smiled at him sadly. “I’m sorry things didn’t go the way I wanted...but...I have control for a couple more minutes before I have to really let you go.”

“Let me go…? What?”

Kaede shushed him, laying her hands on his shoulders and then wrapping him tightly in a hug. She was shaking. “I’m sorry,” She cried, “I’m so, so sorry for leaving you alone like this.”

He hugged her back. She felt...real. Warm. And yet...somehow ethereal.

The blue haired boy rested his head on hers.

“Behind the chalkboard in my lab….there are three items. Just for you. Don’t let anyone else see, okay?”

Shuichi’s shaking now, too. “Are...you real? Or...is my mind trying to cope?”

Kaede smiled softly. “Well, that’s for you to decide, now isn’t it?”

Shuichi laughed. “Yeah, I think you’re real enough.”

Kaede grew quiet suddenly. “Hey, I know this seems random - but did you ever want to...be with me?”

Shuichi nodded.

In response, Kaede let out a sigh in relief, slumping against him. “Oh, good. You know, when we were here, I had a dream that we had a kid together.”

The grey eyed male went red in the cheeks. “Mhm…”

*ding-dong!*

“And….it was a little blonde girl.”

*ding-dong!*

“What did we name her?”

*ding-dong!*

“Maya.”

*ding-dong!*

Kaede stepped back from him suddenly, and looked up.

“Oh, no.”

“What?”

*ding-dong!*

Kaede stepped closer and pressed their foreheads together.

“Listen, we don’t have much time. But, I want you to know that I love you. And I always loved you. Even though we were together two, three days? Doesn’t matter. I love you. And I want you to be happy. Live. Live for me, okay? Just...get out of here.”

“Kaede-? What-?”

She steps back, just out of reach.

“Goodbye, Shuichi.”

He reaches out to her, but the chain has come again, and drags her upward. Shuichi gets one last glance before she’s gone. A white, floor length silk gown replaced her other dress, and she seemed to have wings and a halo.

He looks around again - but only sees white.

Shuichi supposes that was when he woke up.

The next day - when he has time, he stops into her lab. He knows that someone probably sees him when he’s doing this - but decides that they’re most likely brushing it off as him coping.

The door slides shut with a soft ‘click’ behind him, and he sighs, taking a deep breath. He steeled his nerves. Was….that really Kaede?

Some desperate hope inside of him wanted it to be her - craved that connection. The majority, though, reasoned that it was his mind coming up with desperate images to get that connection he craved.

His steps as he approached the chalkboard were slow, methodical and even, even though his arms were beginning to shake violently.

Shaking still, he peeked behind the chalkboard, his heart thumping as violently as his hands were shaking still.

At first, he saw nothing. It was so elaborately hidden - he thought - that he began to wonder just how much time Kaede had spent in this room. But, when he adjusted himself to see if he was missing something, he noted a glint of silver. Reeling back, his mind began to go wild. Was there actually something there? If so, did that mean that Kaede had really contacted him in his dreams? But why him? And that declaration of love….it was real?

She’d loved him?

And he’d never known?

Before his mind could fall further into the abyss of his thoughts, he reached up to the silver glint he’d seen and pulled.

A bag came away in his hand, the handle covered in silver wires. He reached back again after setting the bag on the ground, only to find a small portion of the wall that cut away - almost like a cubby hole.

He smiled to himself. He should have known that she’d do something like this - something that would be passed off as a trick of the mind.

It’s what she’d done for the murder, after all.

He paused after that thought, darker thoughts threatening to consume him. He shook them off however, and investigated the bag as he sat down on the floor. There were items inside, which he took out.

Three items, just as the dream Kaede had specified.

A CD case, a little pink pouch, and a large envelope.

The CD case was clear and simple enough, and if he looked, he could see two discs. The pouch was a drawstring pouch, and it was a light, pastel pink. He remembered seeing something like that in the warehouse, so he supposed that she could have gotten it from there. He opened it by pulling on the drawstrings, and found hundreds of Monocoins in there.

He sat it back in the bag carefully. The next item he investigated were the discs.

One read “Songs Saihara Would Like,” and the other read, “Playing.”

The first he could figure out pretty easily, as well - there was an extensive music collection in the warehouse. The second was a little harder.

Playing? That could refer to a number of things. Playing a video, children playing in a park, playing an instrument.

An electric charge lanced through him.

Playing an instrument….

Playing the piano.

He’d never mentioned that he’d wanted to see her play, but somehow she knew. He was itching to go down to the A/V room to watch them, but he decided that he had to look in the envelope, first. It was large and a bright shade of orange, and Kaede had wrote something on it. It also bulged slightly, like it was holding something.

“Unless you are Shuichi Saihara or my future self and have found this envelope - do not open it! - Kaede Akamatsu”

He smiled, and then turned it around and opened it. Inside was a piece of paper, Kaede’s monopad, and her room key.

He took out the paper first. It was a letter.

Dear Shuichi, xx-yy-zz

If you’re reading this, then I’ve died. I died trying to defeat the mastermind. Maybe you’ll never read this at all. Maybe I’ll be too much of a pansy to let you know where it is. Hehe, maybe I’ll come back after death if that happens.

If there’s one thing that I have to say to you - it’s that I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I don’t know what will happen at this ‘class trial,’ if we have one, but I’m willing to bet that you’ll figure me out. And then you won’t say anything because of all the time we’ve spent together, so I’ll make you convict me.

And I know that we’ll both probably be emotional messes the entire time, and everyone will say that I didn’t do it - because really, who would expect me to be the culprit? God...I’m just so terrible. At the time I’m writing this - Monokuma has told us about the time limit on the killing.

We came up with a plan to trap the mastermind, and I’ve come up with my plan to try and kill them. And then, I slipped away from you and went to write this. Honestly, this is stupid, and I’m sure everything will turn out for the best...but something just doesn’t feel right. I mean, the mastermind brings us here and keeps us trapped - even going as far as to build that huge dome - and we’ll be able to end it all?

Just like that?

I do trust you, and your plan - but I don’t trust myself to do this right. So, that’s that.

There’s also something else that’s been going on lately. I...I’ve been getting these flashbacks of a girl who’s just like me - but isn’t me. She says stuff I would never say, and yet, some little part of me resonates with her. I feel like...at a time, she was me - but she somehow isn’t me now. Do you know what I mean? I feel like...she was putting up a front with all the things she said, but I was at her core. And then I was exposed somehow, and now she’s a part of me, but I’m who she really is.

It’s weird, I know - but maybe it’ll help you in some way.

Anyway, this is getting pretty long, so I’ll wrap it up. When we were together, it was awesome. I felt like I could do anything with me - and while I don’t know if you felt the same, I feel like...you would agree. I think what I’m feeling now that I’m thinking about you is something like love, but not quite love just yet. Maybe when we get out of here, it will be more. I hope so.

In the envelope with the letter will be my Monopad and the key to my room. I don’t really know what use you’d have for this stuff, but I thought you’d like it. Plus, there’s no one else I’d really trust with my Monopad and stuff with other than you. The discs and Monocoins are my way of atoning, too. For making you convict me...and all of that.

Shuichi, stay safe and survive, okay? Even if I don’t - I want you to survive for me. Keep your head up, and lead everyone. I know you can do it!

Tears were falling freely from his eyes as he read the letter over and over again, hand covering his mouth as he tried in desperation not to cry.

He did.

The letter fluttered to the floor.

Oh, Kaede.

The tears that were flowing down his face were ones of a heartbroken and mourning boy - one who’d like anything more than to have her back.

But - that wasn’t happening, anytime, now was it Shuichi?

No, no it wasn’t.

After a few minutes, he pulled himself together. Quietly, he slid everything back into their respective places within the bag, pulled himself up off of the floor, and walked out of the room with the bag hung off of his shoulder. In retrospect, he’s glad that no one saw him, and especially Miu, who would probably ask him if he was carrying around that bag to carry around his “lady products” in. He would have snapped at her.

That didn’t happen, however, and he got down to the A/V room with no hassle. Quickly, he locked himself in and sat the bag on the couch, and then took the discs out. First, he inserted the one of Kaede playing. Then, he started everything and sat himself on the couch, staring at the screen.

At first, there was black, and then there was a small beep, and a view of Kaede and her piano. She smiled at the camera and said; “I assume you’re watching this after the letter, so I can’t say much except that I’m sorry. But, even still, I hope you enjoy!”

With that, she placed her fingers to the keys and began to play. The soothing melody of “Clair de Lune,” by Debussy flowed throughout the room.

He supposed she meant it to be calming, but it overwhelmed him with a tidal wave of emotion, and he began to cry.

He wasn’t sure when the first song ended and the other started. He wasn’t sure when the sound of the piano left his ears altogether.

He wasn’t sure when he passed out from crying.

He woke several hours later, extremely tired even after sleeping, the bag clutched against him tightly.

If anyone had found him - they didn’t mention it.

Neither did he.

Episode 4: “Just gotta try to wiggle myself in some where”- Austin

I kinda wish our tribe would lose just so I could see where the lines are tbh. Also I have a bad feeling that at a swap/merge our tribe is gonna be picked off because we’re going in with the most numbers and on a base level that’s dangerous; however, I do think it could be deeper than that because of the preconceived relationships and I’m looking forward to seeing who goes home tonight and where we go from here.

This round was a little wild for me. Austin has been my fave since the beginning and we finally created an alliance. We both liked eve so that was easy but we wanted one more person. This is where things got a little complicated. Him and eve both liked isaac but honestly i wasnt feeling isaac and love pat. But i didnt want to push too hard so we just went ahead with isaac.

BUT we also talked to pat and will have ANOTHER alliance with him (so austin, pat and me). SO basically im working with everyone right now except keaton. Im glad our tribe has been killing it because that means no TC wooo

We tribe swapped so that is fun. It's always interesting to have a switch up. I have still yet to be screwed by a tribe swap in my entire history of playing ORGs which is something I am happy with. This is one of the best iterations of a tribe I can think of actually. I can forge a closer bond with Xander and Dylan, because now if we lose I won't need to vote one of them out, they become my core 3. So, right after the swap I made an OG Malakoff chat with myself, Xander, and Dylan. I just wanted the immediacy to show that I was serious in wanting to stick to that, which I am. I have communicated several times that I want to work with Isaac, so ideally Austin will go in the event that we lose. I feel bad because he is a sweetheart, but he doesn't fit into my strategy, and if anyone understands game being game, he does.

I love my new tribe??? Not only is nick still here so that gives me a safety net, the sammy I like is here. Pat is here. No idea who eve is but that’s okay too. I’m loving this. Inb4 I get voted out next Bc they actually really fucking hate me :^). Byebye payton it was nice kinda knowing you? Hello ~hopefully~ friends <3

Well....we got our last handed to us. I'm not happy going to tribal bc I feel I'll be the one going. I talk with jared and issac the most but I feel jared will stick with xander and dylan. Just gotta try to wiggle myself in some where.

I have been busy the past couple of days so this challenge being a endurance/speed comp was a struggle. And it looks like my team didn't do much. To help... It's fine we can get out one of these other two dead weights. Speaking of them. Im glad the swap merged me with two allies but the other two just suck to talk to... And that's coming from me .. Jess knows what I'm talking about. Anyways I don't want them here and want them gone. As for my allies. I like Jared a lot we are getting along and enjoying ourselves. He's definitely the one I trust most in this game and hopefully it gets me to merge where I can start phase 2 and hopefully get far. Dylan is fine .. he's offline a lot but he's from old tribe so like it helps.

I hate confessions. That’s my confession for the round... jkjk. Eh there isn’t much to talk about now that it’s tribal time. I hope whoever from our og tribe stays safe but I forgot who is there so oops. Sammy killed it. I still call bs on the centipede question but oh well. It wouldn’t have changed the result. It would have just made the gap close by 1.

LOVE MY NEW TRIBE. So happy we swapped. I’m with actual love of my life ASHLEY!!! And Chloe is amazing too. Aidan popped off in the challenge. Keaton is Keaton. This is a good group and I’m glad they did rlly well in the challenge. I love this kind of thing but I wasn’t able to constantly be on my phone all weekend bc that’s rude :( so I’m glad it worked out. Hoping the tribe swap works out in our favor and Xander jared and Dylan stay together for the vote. Idk if Isaac and jared are friends??? I hope Isaac leaves because he knows I’m a ‘threat’ in games and because I think Ashley yelled at him once. Idk who Austin is but Ashley likes him. But idk how likely that is if Isaac and jared have a connection. As long as jared stays safe ifgaf who leaves.

Yowza. We got absolutely wrecked in the challlenge. I don't WANT to lose any challenges, but I believe in the long run I should be happy to take this L. As another way to show my loyalty, I decided to give my idol progress in the chat with Xander and Dylan. I noticed Dylan never reciprocated so that gives me 1 reason to be wary. Then, Dylan posted a very inappropriate joke in the tribe chat in reference to Survivor Thailand, and the word "rape" was used, so that was the 2nd thing to make me uneasy. At first, Dylan and Xander had no opinion on who to vote, so I voiced that I would like to vote Austin- then Dylan remembered who Isaac is and said "he can go." I eventually got things back on track to target Austin, but Dylan better be careful- it's 3 strikes and you're out with me. I have a good relationship with Isaac so I wouldn't be surprised to see Dylan go if we lose again.

Day 9 on the survivor tribe. My thoughts are about toes and only toes. They are consuming my entire day. I exist merely to think of toes.

Okay so I’m just gonna throw down some of my thoughts right now since I’ve been very quiet in confessionals. I fucking hate these small ass fucking tribes. It makes the thought of going to tribal terrifying because your odds of going home are increased. Since the swap ive actually really been enjoying my time, I really like my new tribe and I feel I can actually connect with these people better than on my first tribe. I am glad to actually have Aidan with me because he’s like THE person I want to work with from my og tribe, along with Vi. I still have my reservations on Nick even though I think he’s nice I can’t trust him as far as I could throw him. I really feel that the trivia challenge brought us closer together as a tribe since what’s a better bonding experience than yelling at Jess that she’s wrong 50 times in one day. I think we’re all collectively quite strong and I really hope that means we can slide past for a while without going to tribal.

Honestly i always forget what i confess from last time but i still think I’m in a good position in the game. However I really do not want to go to tribal because I don’t want to show my cards. Eve and Pat both want me to work with them so we have an alliance and then Vi and Nick approached me and want to work with me as well. This was completely surprising to me bc I felt as if I would just be an easy vote out if we were to go to tribal since I’m a lone wolf. However I’m in the middle and I feel somewhat powerful knowing that people want to keep me and want to work with me. Me and nick have had a rocky relationship in past games but i think he’s a great person. He’s just a wildcard. I love vi and i think she’s the sweetest person to have ever existed but my gut is telling me to work with pat and Eve atleast for the first vote. Hopefully I don’t have to make the decision but who knows. That’s all I have for now other than I think the idol system isn’t anything I keep getting zapped. I feel like a fly in a southern home...ZAP.

I couldn’t remember the day so I put 69. I hate this tribe with my whole heart and my whole bussy. Jared is the only one giving me any sort of shot at making it passed this round. Austin is a slime ball who will do anything to save his own skin, Xander is dead apparently, and Dylan has been tracking down places where famous people died. I feel like this is my own personal hell and while I’ve been assured that Austin is going home (which I wouldn’t be surprised was a lie) I still have to make a swap or a merge and with the clowns on this tribe being inactive and never talking about anything but Star Wars or not talking at all I don’t know how possible it is to win a goddamn challenge.

*insert Da'vonne pretends to be shoocked gif at a swap* Since it didn't happen at 16 I wasn't surprised too see it at 15 but I'm glad because three tribes provides for much more buffer. My initial reaction to my tribe was positive as I saw that I had Chloe and three new people in the mix. I'm not gonna lie that I was getting bored on my old tribe but I do hope that Nick is doing alright. He's one ally that I'd love to connect with again... Vi is alright too but I don't know how strong of a connection we fostered. First impressions of my new tribemates: Keaton - I heard he was fucking with my friend in another game so my guard was up but I tried and he seems aloof and random with his contributions but it makes sense since he's playing 4 games at once. Will probably work off of the others who contribute in challenges? We'll see. Ashley - Sweet and seems like a hard worker. Not too much of a read on her yet Owen - He seems nice and genuine but not much of a read from a game perspective yet. It seems the split is 2-2-1 on my tribe from previous tribes but I don't know how strict to tribal lines people are going to play but I can feel some aloofness with Keaton and Ashley is traveling so... that's that on that. If we were going to tribal I have no idea what the fuck would happen but I want to strengthen connections. Honestly I think we can make it to the merge without hitting an elimination but who knows. THANKFULLLLLLLY my ass had a lucky night on the railroads and jumped to spot number fifty and apparently found a STEAL A VOTE. This is what I DESERVE. Thank you Old West Gods for blessing me, the star, with this iconic power. I'm glad I have it in my back pocket and I'm not telling a fucking soul. If it needs to be used, it will be flaunted and I will pop shit. Hopefully I can save it for after merge but if I need to control a pre-merge vote just to get my way, I'm going to do it.

However the fact that I didn’t have to put my hand in my pocket won’t change my opinions in the slightest. The good will be celebrated like realising that there is good quality chocolate lurking in the back of the cupboard that hasn’t been munched on by an overly enthusiastic (and cheeky) 2-year-old. The bad will be met with the disgusted disdain of discovering that someone ordered pineapple on the takeaway pizza! AGAIN! I mean Dude…. No…

I might be slightly hungry while writing this… I’m always slightly hungry in fairness, the joys of breastfeeding! *Le sigh… With that random ramble of foodie thoughts done and dusted we shall begin.

About three weeks ago I was sent some shiny, pretty and frankly very useful things by the folks at Burton McCall. Thanks guys, I’ve had great fun! I was hoping to get these reviews completed more than a week ago (sorry!) but my brain had other ideas and my epilepsy started to act up. No screen time for me without the fear of making the seizures worse but now I’m back in business again. Wooo!

I recieved six items in total from four different brands. From Zoku we have: two thermos flasks and a ‘Dino Pop’ ice-lolly maker. From Victorinox, we have a Swiss army knife. From Nite Ize we have the PetLit LED and from Humangear we have the GoTubbs. I will be doing one review per brand as I would rather not have a review post of over 7000 words as I don’t really do the whole, dreaded ‘wall of text’ thing. Let me start the first of four reviews into my epic few weeks of playtime and squealing (perhaps even louder than the Toddler) at the concept of Dino ice lollies; with the PetLit LED Light.

PetLit LED Light This was sent as a little treat for Rosie my adorable but slightly stern looking kitty. Unfortunately she gave me the look (that almost all cat owners will know oh so well) that threatened death and lacerations, if I dared even consider placing the light upon her most sacred of collars. I swear she thinks this is ancient Egypt and we are her most humble of servants… She is probably at least half right in fairness.

Anyway I improvised and decided that the toddler makes a great stand in for a cat. Let’s face it; both suffer from convenient bouts of deafness, both like climbing and it’s definitely a kind understatement to claim that they are both mildly obsessed with cardboard boxes. See the below photos for cuteness and proof..

See it’s still a fair review… Even if the helper is a tad excitable at the thought of being a cat and won’t stop meowing. Please stop her meowing… Pretty please? Thanks.

What is it?

Basically it’s a tiny, little and very bright LED light that you place on your pets collar (or in my case my toddlers zip). It helps you see them in the dark and know where they have wandered off too, giving pet owners some reassurance that ‘Mittens’, ‘Fido’ or in my case ‘Toddle’ isn’t going to wander off into the night-time abyss and not return. Which I honestly think is a fabulous idea. Unfortunately I couldn’t test this in pitch black darkness, just in a slightly darkened room because there was no way in Hell Toddle was staying up past her bedtime. Nope, no, please don’t even suggest such tantrumy madness. Besides, mummy needs flop out and do grown up stuff (read: play on Twitter). Also a free range Toddle in the dark seemed like a bad idea at any rate. Call me crazy…

It’s a very bright light as you can see here.

The things that I like: It is a surprisingly bright light considering it’s small, compact size and the fact that it is just a single LED inside a pretty jewel shaped case. It’s easily turned on and off by simply rotating the light either clockwise or anti-clockwise which is obviously an ideal feature but I have to question if this would prove to be a difficult task if the creature wearing it was particularly wiggly. It attaches to the collar of your pet/child/spouse with a simple clip and the back comes off for easy battery replacement. I can’t comment on the battery life having only had it for a short period of time, but I can wager fairly safely that with it being LED the batteries should last quite a long time (the manufacturer states 24 hours of continuous light). Even if it should run out it’s a very simple task to change the batteries as you just twist it slightly further than you would so to turn it off and the back simply comes off ready to insert the new ones.

I like that there isn’t much packaging, as I feel that this is a positive step towards being more environmentally friendly, which is something that in this day and age should be applauded and I have no doubt that this also helps in keeping the price low at a modest £6.17 on Amazon UK (as of 3/9/18).

We do not have a dog and our cat doesn’t go outside and doesn’t enjoy being messed with other than the occasional brush and ticked ears (PTSD-suffering rescue kitty) so I can’t use it for its conventual purpose, but I have placed it on my keys to assist in putting the key in the lock at night and for finding things in dark cupboards ect. It isn’t insanely bright but it has made a practical addition to my key rings.

Things that I didn’t like: While I like that the on/ off mechanism is very simple I found it quite stiff to turn. At first I thought that this was a fault with either my useless co-ordination (thanks Dyspraxia) or my particular item but after reading the reviews on Amazon I found that this seems to be quite a common problem which does ultimately lesson with time. The other issue that I have had is the fact that the light was slightly scuffed when it arrived. This could either be caused by one of three things: 1) the box was bumped during transit, 2) the plastic is quite poor quality and was easily damaged or 3) it was a fault during manufacturing that wasn’t picked up on. As it feels quite flimsy I am leaning more towards number two but as I think it’s a very handy little thing it will be remaining in its new home, keeping my keys company.

Would I advise you buy it? Yes, if you either need a light up key ring or your dog/cat/significant other regularly goes out at night, it is a fantastic idea and incredibly useful. I wouldn’t advise it for people who have poor grip or coordination as it was very difficult for myself, who has dyspraxia, to turn it on or off until it loosened slightly with use and fiddling. Overall a great idea, blemished slightly by production on a relatively low-budget.

Everybody Gets a Point (well, almost everybody): Five Takeaways from Flyers 6, Islanders 4

Maybe the best thing that could have happened for the Flyers this week was the winter storm Grayson.

After a listless performance against their arch rival Pittsburgh Penguins Tuesday, the Flyers called up Tyrell Goulbourne for Thursday’s game against the Islanders.

They called up Goulbourne for the purpose of providing energy to a lineup that is frankly bereft of any.

Before the game, Dave Hakstol said it was “too quiet” in the arena on Tuesday. He didn’t mean that as a knock on the fans, but rather the level at which his team was playing.

Ron Hextall echoed that sentiment and said it went beyond just Tuesday’s loss:

“[Overal this season the energy level has been] in and out,” Hextall said. “There’s nights where we need more energy as a group and obviously a big part of this is to bring us some energy.”

Except, it never happened.

Goulbourne was stuck in the Lehigh Valley because of the snow. He got a late start heading toward Philly and there was no evidence he made it to town before game time – or even at all – despite Hextall saying he was on his way.

Goulbourne was considered a healthy scratch and there was no sign of him in the press box during the game or in or around the locker room after the game.

Frankly, with the way the Flyers played last night, it wouldn’t surprise if Goulbourne was immediately loaned back to the Phantoms.

Because the Flyers played with an energy, and a physicality they have not shown very often this season – and certainly not in the last few weeks.

And guess what, it made a difference.

That’s not to say they need to go all old school hockey and have multiple fights every night – after all there were three glove droppings last night – by guys you really would expect: Travis Konecny, Sean Couturier and Scott Laughton.

No. The Flyers can play the way they played for 40 minutes last night and never get into another fight again, and it would be a successful brand of hockey.

It was a game filled with aggressive physical play between the whistles – big hits, stronger play along the walls and with the puck, a greater physical desire to win those 50/50 plays that make up a hockey game.

Oh… and almost every forward – and even a defenseman or two – found a way to get to a specific area of the ice – between the circles in the offensive zone – and would you believe it, they scored five of their six goals from there?

Now, this really only lasted 40 minutes. The third period was not good and the Flyers almost let an Islanders team that has played pretty dreadful hockey for an extended period of time (they’ve lost eight of 11 and allowed at least four goals in all eight losses) force overtime, which would have been really deflating for the Flyers considering how good the first two periods were, but they ultimately hung on for a much needed victory.

Let’s look at how it happened:

1) Yes, they went there

Five of the six goals the Flyers scored last night came from that area. So, I asked Hakstol if there was a concerted effort to make that happen last night after what seemed like zero effort to do that against Pittsburgh.

“Well that’s the area you have to get to score, if you want to score consistently,” he said. “We haven’t done it. We haven’t been as good in that area consistently over the last half dozen games. We have had a couple of games where we have been pretty good. Two nights ago against Pittsburgh we didn’t get there at all.

“I thought tonight there was a real mindset to get to that hard area. To do that first you have to win pucks down low. You have to come up with possession in the zone. That was the first part that I thought our guys did a real good job in that area. Getting guys around the puck, finding possession and then getting to the hard scoring area.”

Well done, coach.

I know I am one of Hakstol’s harshest critics, but when the guy does something right, he deserves credit for it, even if it’s subtle.

And there were enough subtle changes between Tuesday’s performance and last night’s to show that it wasn’t just the players playing angry, but the coach spending a lot of waking hours figuring out what the hell was wrong and fixing it.

He once again got dead weight Jori Lehtera out of the lineup and put Taylor Leier back in. I’m not sure if this was the planned move – that might have been where Goulbourne was going to play – but any forward in the organization will give you more than Lehtera will right now.

He lit a fire under his team to have them play with a noticeable identity last night. For a team that does not have an identity – at least not a positive one – to play like a skill game with an edge and a fearlessness that they played for the first 40 minutes last night will lead to more success.

He allowed Nolan Patrick’s line to play with more regularity. Patrick played a career high in minutes against Pittsburgh Tuesday – mostly because he picked up a lot of empty minutes at the end of the game – but Patrick played more than 15 minutes again against the Islanders and his line – along with Jordan Weal and Wayne Simmonds was very noticeable. Simmonds scored a goal assisted by Weal, Patrick set up Provorov for a goal. It was easily the trio’s best game together.

He made changes on the power play – I know Kris Knoblauch gets all the credit (or criticism) for the power play, but I have to think Hakstol has a lot of input on personnel. The No. 1 unit showed a new look last night – one with Giroux working from behind the net instead of on the half wall. But more impressively, the second unit scored a goal for the first time this season without a point scored by someone who is usually on the first unit. It’s crazy bad that it took 40 games, but it’s definitely a positive. I don’t understand Brandon Manning being on that unit when they never gave Travis Sanheim a shot there, but hey, he got an assist – and it worked. Not sure it works long-term, but for now – Success!

It was a good game for the coach. He needed one. It would be good if he could start putting a few of these together in a row.

2) Scoring Depth! Go figure.

The Flyers had 12 different players register a point. That might sound like a lot but it’s not really all that difficult a thing to do in a game. Score four or five goals and have three different lines get at least one and it’s pretty likely.

That said… the Flyers didn’t have one game this year where they did that. Not one. Even when they scored eight goals against Washington. (The last time it happened was 4/8/17 vs. Columbus)

That’s how lopsided the Flyers scoring has been this season. It’s mostly been because at 5-on-5, the Flyers don’t score enough because they have guys providing serious drag on the offense.

Filppula is a guy that isn’t really looked at enough. I threw out a jokey stat last game about the Flyers’ record when he registers a point (9-2-3) vs. when he doesn’t (8-13-5), but the fact of the matter is maybe that stat is more indicative of something than we thought.

Not that the Flyers need Filppula to score to find success, nor is it an indicator of secondary scoring, but rather that he’s being used in a role that he shouldn’t be.

I know, I just spent about 400 words giving the coach credit for a good game, but Filppula has proven he’s not a second line center and isn’t helping Jake Voracek or Michael Raffl (although Raffl is scoring more, his possession numbers have dropped off playing with Filppula).

I know the Flyers don’t have a lot of options here, and Scott Laughton had a forgettable game last night (his line with Leier and Dale Weise was the only Flyers line no clicking last night). But for the Flyers to get more consistent performances throughout the lineup like they got last night, maybe a change needs to be made with Filppula.

“Our top three scorers have been very productive,” Hextall said before last night’s game. “But our four through nine forwards haven’t been productive enough, it’s pretty blatant.”

Shift Filppula down. Let Patrick get a shot playing with Voracek. You can keep Raffl there too. I bet you see an uptick in Patrick’s game when he plays with another playmaker like Voracek. Filppula can play with Simmonds and Weal – they’ve been together before – on a third line, or try Laughton there and slide Filppula down to the fourth line.

Either way, less Val should lead to more nights like last night.

3) Provy love

When we last left Ivan Provorov he was in immense pain after taking a slap shot off his left foot. Two days later, not only was he still playing hockey, but he was posting his third career three-point game and his second career two-goal game.

Actually, he was a Raffl deflection away from his first hat trick.

So this was unsurprising:

He was definitely the game’s best player. And the cool thing was, he did it in front of his parents and siblings.

They took a four-hour drive to Moscow, a nine-hour flight to New York and a two-hour drive to Philly to see Ivan play.

Provorov said it’s the first time he’s scored in front of them in the NHL.

The family is in town through the weekend and will be at both games against St. Louis Saturday and Buffalo Sunday.

“Maybe I’ll be able to score a little more for them before they head back,” Provorov said.

If he does, he might want to consider getting them season tickets.

4) Elliott starting to show fatigue

Brian Elliott was pulled after two terrible periods against Pittsburgh Tuesday. He made it through the entire game last night, but he had a couple goals that he should have stopped.

“We needed all of it [because] It probably wasn’t my best game,” Elliott said. “You try and get out there and just, like I always say, be the best for the guys in front of you and give them a chance. I didn’t feel like I had my best effort, it’s nights like that when other guys pick up the slack, that’s huge for me. Next game is next game, you kind of erase this one from the records and start all over again.”

The difference between Tuesday and last night was Elliott came up with a few big saves to preserve the lead last night which he didn’t do at all against the Pens.

He had a huge stop on Josh Bailey late in the second period when the team had a three-goal lead. It didn’t seem like a big deal at the time, but turned out to be much needed as the Isles cut the Flyers lead to one in the third period.

There was even another stop in the third period (which I couldn’t find a .gif of) with the Islanders really pressuring for the tying goal where he flashed a left pad to keep the Flyers ahead.

That said… he does need a break.

He’s started 15 straight games. He’s starting to show it. I thing he plays against St. Louis Saturday because it’s his former team, but really, Hakstol should give him a breather Sunday against Buffalo so he is refreshed when the team comes back form their bye week.

Speaking of those next two games:

5) The halfway point

Saturday’s game is the official middle of the season. The Flyers will still be in last place and that’s certainly not where they wanted to be, but the Atlantic Division is so top-heavy that being in last place in the Metropolitan keeps you in the Wild Card race.

So these two games against the Blues and Sabres are critical games, even if they aren’t division games.

The Flyers would benefit from going into the break on a little 3-game winning streak. But even if they can get three points out of the weekend, they should be happy with the close to this homestand.

The dangerous game is Sunday, believe it or not.

They’ll be up to play the Blues – who are a good team and there’ll be a little bit of an emotional homecoming of sorts for Brayden Schenn. So, I expect a solid effort there.

But Sunday is Buffalo. A bad team. Sometimes it’s easy to look past a team. But it’s really easy to look past a team when you are on the second day of a back-to-back with a vacation hours away.

I’m betting many of the guys have flights booked to some resort as early as Sunday night. The Sabres game is very dangerous. The Flyers can’t look past them this weekend. They can’t afford it.
