From the DVD commentary, episode 1:
Douglas: Do you remember in pre-production there was a thing where some executives somewhere said, did David Tennant and Michael Sheen not look a bit the same? And we sort of agreed. And one of the things that I think that through costume and make-up and hair and everything else we managed to do really well with Claire [Anderson], our costume designer, and Nosh [Anne 'Nosh' Oldham, the make-up designer] was distinguish them very clearly and then adding on their extraordinary performances to that. There's never a question.

A Huguenot, on St. Bartholomew's Day, Refusing to Shield Himself from Danger by Wearing the Roman Catholic Badge (1851–52) is the full, exhibited title of a painting by John Everett Millais, and was produced at the height of his Pre-Raphaelite period. It was accompanied, at the Royal Academy of Arts in London in 1852, with a long quote reading: "When the clock of the Palais de Justice shall sound upon the great bell, at daybreak, then each good Catholic must bind a strip of white linen round his arm, and place a fair white cross in his cap. —The order of the Duke of Guise."
It depicts a pair of young lovers and is given a dramatic twist because the woman, who is Catholic, is attempting to get her beloved, who is Protestant, to wear the white armband declaring allegiance to Catholicism. The young man firmly pulls off the armband at the same time that he gently embraces his lover, and stares into her pleading eyes. The incident refers to the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre on August 24, 1572, when around 3,000 French Protestants (Huguenots) were murdered in Paris, with around 20,000 massacred across the rest of France. A small number of Protestants escaped from the city through subterfuge by wearing white armbands. Millais had initially planned simply to depict lovers in a less dire predicament, but supposedly had been persuaded by his Pre-Raphaelite colleague William Holman Hunt that the subject was too trite. After seeing Giacomo Meyerbeer's opera Les Huguenots of 1836 at Covent Garden, which tells the story of the massacre, Millais adapted the painting to refer to the event. In the opera, Valentine attempts unsuccessfully to get her lover Raoul to wear the armband. The choice of a pro-Protestant subject was also significant because the Pre-Raphaelites had previously been attacked for their alleged sympathies to the Oxford Movement and to Catholicism. Millais painted the majority of the background near Ewell in Surrey in the late summer and autumn of 1851, while he and Hunt were living at Worcester Park Farm. It was from a brick wall adjoining an orchard. Some of the flowers depicted in the scene may have been chosen because of the contemporary interest in the so-called language of flowers. The blue Canterbury Bells at the left, for example, can stand for faith and constancy. Returning to London after the weather turned too cold to work out-of-doors in November, he painted in the figures: the face of the man was from that of Millais's family friend Arthur Lemprière, and the woman was posed for by Anne Ryan. The painting was exhibited with Ophelia and his portrait of Mrs. Coventry Patmore (Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge) at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1852, and helped to change attitudes towards the Pre-Raphaelites. Tom Taylor wrote an extremely positive review in Punch. It was produced as a reproductive print by the dealer D. White and engraved in mezzotint by Thomas Oldham Barlow in 1856. This became Millais's first major popular success in this medium, and the artist went on to produce a number of other paintings on similar subjects to serve a growing middle class market for engravings. These include The Order of Release, 1746 (Tate, London), The Proscribed Royalist, 1651 (Lord Lloyd-Webber Collection), and The Black Brunswicker (Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight). All were successfully engraved. There are smaller watercolor versions of the picture in The Higgins Art Gallery, Bedford, the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, and a reduced oil replica in the Lord Lloyd-Webber Collection, all by Millais.

What designers do you want to see jeonghan wear/etc?
when u start reading this u will understand the despair i felt when tumblr deleted my reply (just as i was finishing the margiela part) But we live… so okay i must warn you this is long and i made collages bc there was way too many pictures i wanted to show… One thing about me i don’t like to half ass things so i really hope you enjoy reading all this 🫶🏻 (this is one of my favorite questions i got asked EVER)
I wanted to start off with Jolo (Jeonghan solo) first just because i have that on my pinterest saved and Ready. You know i envision kind of fallen angel (1004) for one concept and venusian otherworldly beautiful man that it makes you uneasy for the other concept? Okay so first one some of the inspiration (versace ss02, mugler 84, givenchy (by mcqueen) haute couture 1997, mcqueen fw 06, blumarine ss24)
Tumblr media
Second one i just think simone rocha all over… it would fit his whimsical looking ass…And this JPG look with the pearls AND the givenchy all white beauty just yes… Oh i adore.
Tumblr media
Now let’s get into the Real Question. Need to make it clear that the fashion houses i mention are the ones i love (for myself aka it’s my taste aka the fits you see I ALSO WANT) so yes it’s biased a bit but i do always keep a tab on jeonghan so this is not something i just came up with… TRUST!
first of all i need to start with YSL (i just saw his ig story. Please) bc i BELIEVE that they will make him their muse. i just feel it in my intuitive soul and mind…. Anyway i already posted some looks i want to see him but it doesn’t hurt to get reminded. Sidenote i REALLY need to see him become part of snowflake community (i’m the president ofc) i just need to see him in a pretty šubara it is my right as his slavic woman…
Tumblr media
peter do. I need him to hit up jeonghan… it’s possible like jeno walked for him can he please hop over to hybe i have a perfect person in mind…..
Tumblr media
alexander mcqueen… that’s kinda a no brainer you know how much i love structured, sleek design of course i would love jeonghan in them too… Imagine his tiny waist in these just magnificent if you ask me…. And the little bunny bag. don’t even get me started on that i have ZERO words
Tumblr media
now i know he is a very cozy man and likes his outfits to be baggy so much that you don’t even see his body. May i present him with some yohji yamamoto in my opinion he would rock everything AND would feel cozy and comfy like he does in his giant hoodies. Going with the cozy (bc i am afraid i will go over the picture limit) i have to (lump them together) and mention margiela - i am actually surprised i haven’t seen any svt man in tabis but there is still time 🫣 With that ofc comes early 00s hermes which is my favorite… (i didn’t post my f/w fits here bc i had other blog but i will this year and u will see what i’m talking about)
Tumblr media
mugler… Let me not repeat myself the pictures can talk for themselves and in this case (bc again i got over the 10 pic limit) i gotta group him them with gucci (by tom ford it’s given) so we are talking maybe fw 96 with velvet suits or 1995 … Actually 1995 fits so well bc he is 95 baby okay okay SEE connections…. I need to be his stylist he would look so cunt.
Tumblr media
i think schiaparelli would be good on him (manifesting. again if i could just have a word with his stylist.)
Tumblr media
Had to delete anne demeulemeester paragraph i am sorry but this next collage was more important so it was a fight and anne lost. ANYWAY I would LOVE to see him in custom dilara findikoglu like imagine it says jeonghan dangling… similar to this i would love for him to have a todd oldham shirt with his name like nadja does here (a big cozy shirt bc he’s so difficult abt it…) This egonlab outfit i adore i had it saved i think it would suit him perfectly. and this haider ackermann leather wrap coat. and this vivianne westwood winter hat. and this 2123 shirts. And i think i should stop now before someone euthanizes me!
Tumblr media
This got SO long i could talk about this for ages and i am sorry if this was all over the place i would make a powerpoint presentation if i had time. but i need to stop myself from exhibiting signs of mental illness on my dear blog. But i hope this was fun to read… I hope 🫶🏻

* PLAYING: 16 CARRIAGES BY BEYONCE.
(  taylor russell  .  cis woman  .  she/her  )       ✧       entering through oldham’s shore,  we’ve spotted  annabelle jackson,  as usual carrying her worn-out tote bag. the tides had let us know she's a  twenty-four  year old  banshee  with her sun in cancer,  and her day mostly occupied by arranging books at genevieve oldham public library.  the spring breeze whispered she quite enjoys a full night’s rest, unplagued by dreams ; a mid-afternoon nap, taken in the sun ; folk & bluegrass music, listened to through an old speaker ,  which might or might not be responsible for her timid, avoidant, melancholic, kind, empathetic, encouraging nature.  evangeline isn't an oldham local,  yet the ocean’s waves brought us tales about them regardless,  about how she  often mourns the home they can never go back to; can be found walking along the beach at nighttime, cursed by unrest; appeared in oldham under mysterious circumstances; feed the stray cats in the alley & watch the amusement park lights from afar, although we can never know for sure when it comes to oldham,  in the end,  it could be only rumors,  right ?
BASICS:
full name: annabelle lee jackson nickname(s): annie, anna, belle, ann, lee age: twenty-four gender: cis woman pronouns: she/her sexuality: closeted bisexual date & place of birth: june 30 in abilene, texas occupation: librarian faceclaim: taylor russell piercings: none tattoos: none similar to: angela weber (twilight), haruhi fujioka (ouran high school host club), katara (avatar: the last airbender), sandy olsen (grease), violet parr (the incredibles)
* warning for parentification, miscarriage, spousal death, religious trauma
BULLET POINTS:
– y'all i'll be so real i don't have much yet ... here is her bare bones ... – grew up in rural texas ! oldest of five siblings and grew up taking care of them. she was considered very "plain" in her mother's eyes, which disappointed her because she wanted her daughter to be a pageant queen (yes this gives her a complex) – they were poor, she's used to giving up most of what she has to make sure her younger siblings were more comfortable – got married at 18 to her high school sweetheart (she loved him more than life itself) (this will end badly) – got pregnant shortly after, which she was very happy about. annabelle felt stifled at home and took the chance to move out with her husband -- they struggled, but they were happy. – until she started getting ... dreams. visions, almost. always superstitious and riddled with religious trauma, she didn't bring this up. she didn't want to ruin the "perfect" life she thought they had – the screams start later. she wakes up and the force of the scream is enough to rattle the walls, crack the windows. he thinks she's crazy and so does she, but he still loves her – he dies soon after, on the eve of her nineteenth birthday. the night after another scream, but that one was different. near deafening. the police show up and she's got his blood on her hands. she takes what cash she can find, her husband's rosary, and she runs – for a while she survives on odd jobs, always hiding her face and taking the greyhound as far out of state as she can. she leaves her entire family behind and it eats at her and will forever and ever etc etc . they think she's dead too – another dream and this time it's her bleeding. the scream this time feels like anguish and sounds like grief. she loses her baby soon after from stress – ends up in oldham after traveling across the country...she's only been here for around six months, but she felt it calling to her. and she's got nothing to lose now, so starting over seems like the best thing she can do – she's quite timid and shy (both bc of her nature but also because she is literally wanted for murder) – loves animals and nature. prefers both over people sometimes – quiet, soft-spoken. often has to be asked to speak up (she hates it), but can be giggly and kind if you get it out of her. very avoidant and flighty and always looks like she's hiding something/trying to get out of conversation (she is) – it will take so long. it's like pulling teeth to be her friend but it's worth it! eventually she becomes less avoidant and will like pick you flowers or something -- argh she loves to people watch. especially at the amusement park, the beach, the park. she wants to be a part of something so bad but she's always keeping herself distant bc of her history. ough
  WANTED CONNECTIONS:
— unrequited love maybe ... idk she gives the vibes she falls head over heels three times a day with every other stranger on the street – the usual. bffs, enemies, one night stands (maybe only like one of these tho idk she's scared of intimacy), a love interest ... throw em at me – oh does anyone want to be her roommate. actually. she doesn't have enough money to live alone UGUIFKJWDNHS – a bad influence ? she's pretty straight edge she should be at the club – who isn't vibing w her ??? who is like "this bitch is weird"

Various Artists — Stop MVP: Artists from WV, VA and NC Against the Mountain Valley Pipeline (War Hen)
Tumblr media
The Mountain Valley Pipeline, if it’s ever finished, will stretch over more than 300 miles in rural Wester Virginia and Virginia, crossing environmentally sensitive parts of the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains carrying dangerous, polluting loads of fracked gas. The League of Conservation Votes estimates that the pipeline will generate more than 89 million metric tons of greenhouse gas pollution annually, about as much as 24 average U.S. coal plans or 19 million passenger cars. Building it will require razing forests that have been sequestering carbon for centuries.
It’s a climate catastrophe, and because it runs through an area that is rich in musical history and culture, it has become a focus for artists and activists, including Daniel Bachman, who organized this 40-track compilation in protest of the pipeline. All proceeds from STOP MVP will go to the Appalachian Legal Defense Fund to support protesters resisting the pipeline’s construction.
That is, of course, one compelling reason to buy this set of music, but it is very far from the only one. The music here is exceptionally diverse and almost uniformly excellent. If you look at the cover and envision a steady stream of earnest folk songs, punctuated by some fingerpicking, think again. Certainly that’s represented on these two discs, but so is noise and rock and punk and hip hop and even, at the end, a stirring piece of gospel that will steel you for the cause.
There’s so much music here that it’s hard to get a grip on it all, but let’s hit some highlights. Magic Tuber String Band’s haunted, haunting rendition of “Undone in Sorrow” is both staunchly traditional and absolutely modern in its lament for a natural world gone haywire. Isak Howell, similarly, finds something potent and bracing in minor key picking. Solar Hex straddles baroque classical cello and folk lament, and there are indeed four crows cawing in the background to “Stone Wall with Four Crows.” My favorite discovery in this lengthy, skewed-folk all-star line-up comes from Høly Riot’s “Spirit Riot,” which kicks up a feeling-the-lord-speaking-in-tongues ruckus with its driving, droning ecstasies.
Some of the cuts are literally about the MVP pipeline, like Joshua Vana and Bernadette “BJ” Lark’s full-throated, heart-swelling “To the River,” while others reference the area’s long history of industrial subjugation. “The Dolly Womack Wreck” retells the story of an old-time train wreck, where the engineer was flayed alive by steam from a broken boiler. “The Coal Tattoo,” sung by Bachman’s father, is about his father’s death in a mine explosion. The hip hop/electronic “John Brown” by Appalachian rapper Prolo chronicles generations of poverty and racism in the region.
A lot of well known folk and indie artists have chipped in. There are tracks from Sally Anne Morgan, Ned Oldham, Nathan Bowles, Rosali Middleton (as Edsel Axle). Yasmin Williams and Bachman himself. But the real tribute to Bachman’s taste, restless song-hunting and open-minded-ness comes from the bands you might not be familiar with, the eerie soundscapes of Tallulah Cloos, the beefy country rock of Tucker Riggleman and the Cheap Dates, the unhinged noise of Dog Scream. The mountains and valleys threatened by MVP are rich in plant and animal diversity, but also musical breadth, and this compilation brings them all together for a worthy cause.

King Lear at Shakespeare's Globe
england trip shakespeare insanity continues -- today i got to see opening night of the production of king lear at the globe. let's GOOOOOOOO
god the energy of being at the globe is just fucking unparalleled. there's nothing like it. the audience interaction is so intoxicating to be a part of, everyone's laughing and gasping and clapping at moments that you'd normally be expected to be silent for in a typical theatre. and this lear got to be FUNNY. it was still a tragedy obviously but the comedic elements played so well in this setting. lear picked out an audience member to play off for "what was thy cause? adultery?" and edmund's "both? one? or neither?" brought down the house it was sooooo much fun
casting! first of all michelle terry cordelia/lear double cast made me crazy as i knew it would. it was kind of ambiguous whether they were intended to be the same character – it was never explicit, but there were moments that hit so well because of the double casting. just moments of care for lear where she looked SO sad. when lear asked goneril "are you our daughter?" the fool was standing right behind her and i. hhhhhhhhh. then in 3.6 the fool fell asleep along with lear and just didn't wake up. gloucester felt him for a pulse and he was dead. but then after everyone else had exited he got up and walked offstage which might have just been a logistical thing but felt like almost a second chance for the fool as cordelia. just like being the fool might have been a second chance for cordelia after she got banished. don't know if this makes sense but god i'm crazy
kathryn hunter is a fantastic actor, she was a more subdued lear than i've seen before which worked really well in some moments but in others felt like it lacked a bit of energy, just cause the emotionality for stuff like the storm scene didn't escalate that much. but in her quieter moments she KILLED. and she was physically so much smaller than almost everyone onstage which really emphasized lear's vulnerability and hurt
okay i owe an apology to ryan donaldson edmund because i kept making fun of him for looking like white jesus and also making the "no bitches" face in his headshot but. okay. i am not immune. possibly he's hotter from afar than he would be up close but he was a good edmund and by that i do mean sexy. his chemistry with the sisters was great and he played off the audience SO well. also he was scottish. hiiiiii sir. oh to be the groundling he winked at when he said "my mind as generous...and my shape as true ;)"
ann ogbomo was a really great goneril, she wasn't as sad and fucked up as my dream portrayal but her energy was fantastic. i just think that women. she was also double cast as curan which is the closest i've seen any production come to my "edmund and curan are for sure fucking" agenda so i'll take what i can get
marianne oldham was a solid regan! i liked almost everything about her except that in 5.1 and 5.3 she was inexplicably wearing like. a shiny metallic bikini top under a camo trench coat which ???? that was. a choice. unfortunately she was hindered by the fact that mark jax as cornwall just did not really know his lines tonight. which makes sense cause it was opening night and apparently the director of this prod got in a car crash recently so they had to scramble to put things together but the fact that he had to adlib a few times was a little disappointing, plus he just didn't have much of an intimidating presence
kwaku mills edgar good! not thee most amazing i've ever seen but i really enjoyed his performance. he was definitely very naive and sweet at the start so it hurt to see him break
gabriel akuwudike was also a really good kent, he was younger than most people i've seen in the role which i think made me like him more. he was very much styled like a soldier in the first scene and it was so clear that he's just been putting himself on the line for lear his whole life and this was no exception
OH AND WOMAN FRANCE. she didn't have a huge part obviously but woman france made her and cordelia standing together while lear banished her hit different. and they gave her a bunch of cordelia's servants' lines in act 4 so it was like. cordelia had her husband there for her. crying just a little
in the first scene goneril was wearing a HOT all black suit situation and regan had a bit of armor on her shoulder. and albany was in a tux while cornwall had a military outfit which i think was a cool way to show the contrast between the sisters. cordelia was in all white. lear also forgot albany's name in that scene and had to be prompted by cordelia which was interesting because it was an obvious sign of dementia but also kind of a contradiction to the idea that he favoured albany and a sign that maybe goneril was the least favourite
regan sat in the throne during her and goneril's conversation at the end of 1.1 at one point. girlboss
after edmund cut himself in 2.1 he was acting like he was in a LOT of pain and i don't know if that was acting to get gloucester's sympathy or if he'd actually injured himself worse than he intended but either way i'm :((( and gloucester DID actually show concern for him and so did regan once she entered. possibly more concern than cornwall was a fan of
in 2.3 gloucester's armed guards came onstage during edgar's soliloquy and he had to hide himself under something AND THEN THEY FOUND HIS HIDING PLACE which was so tense and he burst out and screamed the "poor turlygod! poor tom!" line to scare them off in this desperate moment and it worked. it slapped
the eye scene jesus christ. there was a servant who had a tray with wine and two glasses and regan fully just got herself a glass of wine during the scene which. scream. but also. there was a corkscrew. so you can guess how THAT went. i'm usually pretty immune to the eye scene but that made me cringe. HOWEVER my complaint was that the servant holding the wine wasn't the servant who went for cornwall, it was more of a soldier type but i think it would've been cooler to have it be someone who obviously wasn't used to combat and shouldn't have stood a chance taking him down. also regan sat down and fully ignored cornwall while he was bleeding out which isn't usually my favourite choice but i didn't like this cornwall so good for her
i will say one thing about the globe is because they can't do blackouts where "dead" characters can just walk offstage without the audience seeing, a bunch of people walked off "mortally wounded" but looking like. pretty much fine. just a thing about the venue ig
the play had several scenes where servants were shown just doing things! like preparing a meal in 1.2 or in transitions between scenes and i liked that it emphasized the fact that there ARE people in this world who aren't noble even when they aren't playing a specific part in the play. and the staging of 5.2 had just servants running from the battle while gloucester cowered and smoke poured from backstage. we didn't see the nobles fighting, just the impact on the people, and i liked that
lear used a wheelchair at various points throughout the play and then in 5.3 he wheeled dead cordelia onstage in that same wheelchair instead of carrying her. and then at the very end tried to put her feet on the ground and help her up to her feet. what if i fucking sobbed. that scene always killed but this staging in particular got me
in conclusion lear good and the globe SO fun that i'm actually looking forward to seeing h*nry viii in a few days cause if anything can make me like it it's that

It is unknown just where exactly this highly detailed and beautifully embroidered early Jacobean-style jacket originated. While it is possible that it was made for 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅, where it was first seen in 2005 on Q’orianka Kilcher as Pocahontas, most of the gowns from that film were recycled from earlier films such as 𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝑰𝒏 𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆 or 𝑬𝒍𝒊𝒛𝒂𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒉. The jacket is seen again in the opening credits of the Showtime series 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒖𝒅𝒐𝒓𝒔, most likely on Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn, though her face is not shown when we see the jacket. In 2007 it was used on an extra in 𝑬𝒍𝒊𝒛𝒂𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒉: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒐𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒏 𝑨𝒈𝒆. In 2008, it was seen on Esther Nubiola as Diane de Monsoreau in the film 𝑳𝒂 𝒅𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒅𝒆 𝑴𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒖, and then again in 2013 on Pénélope Leveque as Mary Livingstone in 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒚, 𝑸𝒖𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒄𝒐𝒕𝒔. In 2014, the costume was seen on Alice Sanders as Fleur Baudin in the television show 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒌𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒆𝒓𝒔. In 2015 it made its second appearance in 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒌𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒆𝒓𝒔, where it was spotted on Marianne Oldham as Catherine. Most recently, it was seen on Naomi Battrick as Jocelyn in the BBC series 𝑱𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒘𝒏. . . . . . . . . . #recycledmoviecostumes All intellectual property rights vests with the owner of the copyrighted material. IVF works by combining medications and surgical treatments to assist sperm in fertilizing an egg and the fertilized egg in implanting in the uterus. The key steps in IVF are as follows:
Ovarian stimulation:
When you use fertility medicines, your ovaries are stimulated to create numerous eggs.
Egg retrieval:
During a little procedure, your doctor will use a fine needle to retrieve the eggs from your ovaries.
Sperm collection:
A sperm sample is provided by your spouse or a donor, which is cleansed and readied for fertilization.
Fertilization:
In a lab, eggs and sperm are joined, either spontaneously or by inserting a single sperm into each egg (intracytoplasmic sperm injection, or ICSI).
Embryo culture:
Fertilized eggs (now termed embryos) are housed in a dedicated incubator and their growth and development are tracked.
Embryo transfer:
A tiny tube (catheter) put through your cervix is used to transfer one or more embryos into your uterus.
IVF can be a complex and lengthy process that requires multiple visits to the clinic and close monitoring of your hormone levels and ovarian response. However, IVF can also be a rewarding and life-changing experience if you achieve your dream of having a baby.
History and People Related to the Invention of IVF
The history and people related to the invention of IVF are:
In 1891, Walter Heape reported the first successful embryo transfer in a mammal.
In 1958, Anne McLaren and John Biggers published a paper showing how they had successfully grown mouse embryos in vitro and transferred them into female mice.
In 1959, Min Chueh Chang proved fertilization in vitro was capable of proceeding to a birth of a live rabbit.
In 1973, the Monash University team of Carl Wood, John Leeton, and Alan Trounson reported the first pregnancy achieved through in vitro human fertilization of a human oocyte.
In 1978, Patrick Steptoe and Robert Edwards successfully carried out a pioneering conception that resulted in the birth of the world’s first baby to be conceived by IVF, Louise Brown, on 25 July 1978 in Oldham General Hospital, Greater Manchester, UK.
In 2010, Robert Edwards was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his contributions to IVF
How has IVF changed over time?
IVF has changed over time in many ways, such as:
IVF has become more efficient, safe, accessible, and economical as laboratory technology and clinical practice have advanced.
Mild stimulation, elective single embryo transfer (eSET), preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A), all-freeze cycles, and embryo banking are examples of innovative IVF procedures.
IVF success rates have increased, particularly among older women, as a result of improved ovarian stimulation regimens, embryo culture medium, embryo selection methods, and embryo transfer techniques.
IVF uses such as egg donation, sperm donation, surrogacy, fertility preservation, and mitochondrial donation are being expanded.
There has been an increase in the popularity and acceptability of IVF, with millions of kids born globally utilizing IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies.
The rise of ethical and social concerns, such as donor, surrogate, and child rights and welfare, the regulation and funding of IVF services, the possible hazards and advantages of new technology, and the influence of IVF on families and society.
What are the Risks and Benefits of IVF?
Some of the risks and benefits of IVF are:
Benefits:
When other therapies have failed or are ineffective, infertile patients may benefit from IVF.
If a person is unable to utilize their own gametes or carry a baby, IVF allows them to use donated eggs or sperm, or a surrogate mother.
People can use IVF to screen embryos for genetic problems or to choose the sex of their child using preimplantation genetic testing (PGT)
Those who utilize IVF can protect their fertility by freezing their eggs, sperm, or embryos for future use.
Risks:
The fertility medicines used during IVF might induce bruises, nausea, allergic reactions, breast discomfort, mood changes, and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS)
Complications from egg harvesting or embryo transfer procedures, such as hemorrhage, infection, organ damage, or anesthetic hazards, might occur during IVF 13.
IVF can involve complications from egg retrieval or embryo transfer procedures, such as bleeding, infection, injury to organs, or anesthesia risks.
Multiple pregnancies, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, or birth abnormalities can all be increased by IVF, especially in older women.
IVF may be costly, exhausting, and emotionally demanding, and it is not certain to result in a successful pregnancy.
IVF can create ethical and social concerns about problems such as the disposal of unused embryos, the rights of donors and surrogates, the regulation of reproductive technology, and the influence on family and society.
How Much Does IVF Cost in India?
The cost of IVF in India can vary depending on many factors, such as the location of the clinic, the reputation of the clinic, the experience of the doctor, the type and number of IVF cycles, the use of donor eggs or sperm, the use of genetic testing or surrogacy, and the medications and tests required.
According to various online sources, the average cost of IVF in India ranges from Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 2,50,000 for one IVF cycle using fresh non-donor eggs. This cost may include the expenses of fertility medication, ultrasounds, blood tests, egg retrieval, sperm preparation, embryo culture, and transfer.
The cost of IVF may increase if additional procedures or services are used, such as:
Frozen embryo transfer (FET): Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 60,000
Donor eggs: Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 1,50,000
Donor sperm: Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000
Surrogacy: Rs. 10,00,000 to Rs. 15,00,000
Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT): Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 90,000
The cost of IVF may also vary depending on the number of IVF cycles required to achieve a successful pregnancy. Some clinics may offer package deals or discounts for multiple cycles or refund policies if the treatment fails.
It is important to consult with your doctor and clinic about the exact cost of IVF and the payment options available for you.
How Can I Find a Good Clinic for IVF in India?
Finding a good clinic for IVF in India can be a challenging task, as there are many factors to consider and compare. Some of the steps you can take to find a good clinic are:
Do your research: You can use online sources, such as websites, blogs, forums, reviews, and ratings, to learn about different clinics and their services, success rates, costs, facilities, and reputation. You can also ask for recommendations from your friends, family, or doctor who have undergone IVF or know someone who has.
Visit the clinic: You can visit the clinic in person or virtually to get a feel of the environment, staff, equipment, and hygiene. You can also ask for a tour of the laboratory and see how they handle the eggs, sperm, and embryos. You can also check for the accreditation and certification of the clinic and the doctor by the relevant authorities.
Meet the doctor: You can meet the doctor who will perform your IVF treatment and ask them about their qualifications, experience, expertise, and approach. You can also discuss your medical history, infertility diagnosis, treatment plan, success chances, risks and complications, and expectations with them. You can also ask them about the availability of counseling and support services during and after the treatment.
Compare the options: You can compare different clinics based on various criteria, such as location, cost, quality, success rate, services, and feedback. You can also weigh the pros and cons of each option and see which one suits your needs and budget best. You can also seek a second opinion if you are not satisfied with the first one.
Trust your instincts: Ultimately, you should choose a clinic that makes you feel comfortable, confident, and cared for. You should trust your instincts and go with the option that feels right for you. You should also be prepared to face any challenges or setbacks that may arise during the treatment and have a positive attitude throughout the process.

Henry ‘Chips’ Channon: The Diaries (Vol. 1), 1918-38, entry for 31st January 1923
Wednesday 31st January
An enormous crowd fighting for admission was outside St Margaret’s¹ this afternoon at Joan Poynder’s² marriage to Sir Edward Grigg.³ Joan seem ecstatic, I cannot understand exactly why, as he is middle-aged and almost bald. He is of course the rising young statesman etc, but ugly to look upon and Joan has been in love so often before … she is such a high-spirited, inspired radiant creature …. a fashionable Joan of Arc. First it was Blandford,⁴ and Lady Islington,⁵ ever the most amusing and treacherous lying woman of her age, did her best to encourage the match, as she has all the old-fashioned Victorian ideas about marriage with eldest sons, etc. — and what mother has not??
Lady Islington [had] sent a secret message, which I intercepted, to Gage that if he did not proposed [to Joan Dickson-Poynder] within a fortnight she was convinced Grigg would be accepted …. All the Round-Table milieu with its headquarters at Cliveden⁶ are delighted as this wedding is their handiwork. Joan will make a glorious wife … most of the young men found her attractive but too Amazonian … A letter from Elizabeth [Bowes-Lyon] who is at Sandringham thanking me for my congratulatory letter … she is the thorn in Lady Islington’s flesh.
1.  St Margaret’s Church, Westminster, parish church of the Houses of Parliament, and venue of many society weddings – including Channon’s own.
2.  Joan Dickson-Poynder (1897–1987), daughter of the 1st Baron Islington, had volunteered as a nurse in France during the Great War.
3.  Edward William Macleay Grigg (1879–1955) was Liberal MP for Oldham from 1922 to 1925 and for Altrincham from 1933 to 1945. He had been private secretary to Lloyd George. He was raised to the peerage as 1st Baron Altrincham in 1945.
4.  John Albert William ‘Bert’ Spencer-Churchill (1897–1972), by courtesy Marquess of Blandford until 1934, when he succeeded his father as 10th Duke of Marlborough.
5.  Anne Beauclerk Dundas (1869–1958), married in 1896 Sir John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, 6th Bt (1866–1936). He was raised to the peerage as Baron Islington on assuming the Governor-Generalship of New Zealand in 1910.
6.  Home of the 2nd Viscount Astor and his wife Nancy, given to them as a wedding present in 1906 by the 1st Viscount. Waldorf Astor (1879–1952) was born in New York but attended Eton and New College, Oxford, his family having settled in Britain in 1889. He was Conservative MP for seats in Plymouth from 1910 to 1919, when he succeeded his father as 2nd Viscount Astor. Lady Astor (1879–1964) was born Nancy Witcher Langhorne and in 1906 married Waldorf Astor as his second wife. She was the first woman to sit in the House of Commons, in 1919, when succeeding her husband as MP for Plymouth Sutton following his elevation to the House of Lords. She held the seat until 1945. Cliveden became Britain’s leading political salon in the 1920s and 1930s, and Channon clearly already had the notion that the political establishment settled its affairs there.
