I, who has congenital anosmia, find myself getting annoyed by all the people who talk about their loss of smell and/or taste since the start of Covid-19
Like I’m sympathetic, I also had Covid-19 (multiple times), it sucks and no one should have to experience it
but
I feel like people only started paying any attention to anosmia once it could/did affect them and even then they just complained about it like it was another of life’s mild annoyances, as though it’s not disabling.
Hell, most people I’ve talked to since the pandemic started didn’t even know anosmia was a thing and thought you could only lose your sense of smell by contracting Covid-19. Literally none of the people I’ve talked to knew it was something you could be born with or have for most of your life, they literally only thought about it as an unfortunate symptom until I explained it.
It’s just ughh…idk, makes me depressed and annoyed when I realize how few people outside those with anosmia actually know (or truly care if they do know) about the impairment.
Have any other anosmiacs experienced these feelings? Please tell me I’m not the only one

Unwell - Matchbox 20 (Lyrics) 🎵
#DearMolly
Today was a rough day. My life once again is in shatters; its all in pieces of glass that I must pick up without hurting myself.
I am trying very hard not to go to the dark place and you should too. I understand your #pain; the loneliness that seems to never stop.
I know it hurts so much inside and makes you wanna give up. I am unwell too and I can’t help it. I wish they all understood. I wish they’d stop looking at me as if I am #crazy.
#DearMolly this song is for you. I used to listen to it when I was 14 and I thought maybe you’d like it too. So you know you’re not alone when you’re a little #unwell. Go ahead, sing the pain away...it actually helps quite a lot.
“But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell I know right now you can't tell But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see A different side of me I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired I know right now you don't care But soon enough you're gonna think of me And how I used to be”

Blind Tumblr users: don’t get the latest iOS app update!
I just updated my tablet to the newest version of the tumblr app for iOS and it completely broke screen reader access for both VoiceOver and Spoken Content. This has happened in the past already, so I will file a support ticket and copy-paste my text from last time, but this really sucks. I sincerely hope this doesn’t affect all screen reader users, but I’m unsure how they could program this bug in a way it only affects me. If you rely on a screen reader to use the tumblr app, I’d advice to not get the latest update to be on the safe side.
When I say “completely broke access”, what I mean is that no posts on my dash or on individual blogs get read or recognized at all. No plain text, alt text, tags, etc. Note count and buttons still work though.
If you also run into this bug, here’s my advice. If anyone has something more useful, please tell me
File a support ticket and report this bug
Use the browser web version, which still works for me
Interestingly, if you save a post to your drafts and click on “edit” the post text seems to get read correctly. This might be a work-around for some people.
If you have the latest version but your screen reader didn’t break, also please tell me! I would be fascinated to know if this bug is only affecting some people
TL;DR: The latest tumblr app update for iOS made it so screen readers no longer work in the app
Please boost!
Edit: This issue is now fixed as of November 10th 2023. However, since this is a recurring issue, it’s possible that a future update will break it again. See notes for more details.

By the way, @staff is changing the video player and photo viewer on the mobile app to the one from Tumblr TV. As a result, they have made the abhorrent decision to remove an important accessibility feature in order to TikTok-ifying Tumblr. You can no longer zoom in on photos. Or so I thought. Because the visually impaired are now second-class users to the Tumblr Staff, they just decided to make it harder to zoom in on photos.
So, for all of you who, like me, find the pinch-to-zoom feature on Tumblr invaluable to read and view photos, you now have to:
Tap the Photo > Tap the “more” button in the description > tap the photo again
This will open the old photo viewer (for now, anyway) which was formerly one tap away. It will grant you all the former features of the old photo viewer, including the ability to zoom in.
EDIT: if you’re seeing this on your For You Dash or some other non-reblogged method you will see this edit. Before reblogging and commenting on this, there is addition information in the replies. I have replies disabled, so I am the only person who can add them. I’ve added addition info, as well as an update. Please read them. TLDR: many others, and myself, are now seeing it’s fixed. Many others are not. It may be a roll-out fix from the back-end. Be patient and wait to see if it’ll make its way to you.

normalise disabled eyes. normalise crossed eyes, normalise lazy eyes, normalise nystagmus, normalise how disabled eyes look and move. stop being shitty to vision impaired people and others with eye conditions about our fucking eyes. our eyes tell you fuck all about how "smart" we are (stop being intellectually ableist anyway), they don't tell you if we're listening, they just tell you that we have an eye condition.

QUALICUM BEACH — BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) officers pulled over a reclined driver who apparently had no idea where he was.
In response to a report of an erratic driver, BCHP officers intercepted a northbound Honda Civic on the evening of April 14 on the Inland Island Hwy. near the Cook Creek Rd. exit where they found two occupants — a fully reclined driver and his passenger suspected of possessing fentanyl.
The driver, a man in his 40’s from Alberta showed signs of impairment and was charged with multiple Motor Vehicle Act infractions and issued a 24-hour driving prohibition.
The passenger was arrested on outstanding warrants. He’s an Oceanside area man in his 30’s, police said.

“alt text for more info” “turn on cations for more info” no actually this is not where more info goes. These have a very distinct purpose. There are plenty of other places for more info. If you’re going to make your post inaccessible, the least you could do is not use accessibility tools at your own leisure for whatever purpose you see fit.

In Gerard Loftus, et al. v. Three Palms Crocker Park, LLC, et al., Appeal by Robert Sotka, 2023-Ohio-927, No. 111639, Court of Appeals of Ohio, Eighth District, Cuyahoga (March 23, 2023) an intoxicated person injures a passenger when he lost control of a vehicle at 120 miles per hour and crashed.
Robert Sotka appealed the trial court’s grant of summary judgment in favor of his employer, Three Palms Crocker Park, LLC (“Three Palms”) and its insurer, State Auto Mutual Insurance Company (“State Auto”).
FACTUAL OVERVIEW
Plaintiff Gerard Loftus was severely injured as a passenger in a single-car accident in which Sotka was the driver. Sotka was the manager at the Three Palms pizzeria restaurant. Sotka had discussions with Loftus about potentially purchasing a restaurant with him.
Sotka left the restaurant at 5:15 p.m. and traveled over 60 miles to the Canoe Club to meet Loftus and a group of Loftus’s friends. At around 10:15 p.m., Sotka was driving exceeding a speed of 120 m.p.h. The car left the road and hit a guardrail, causing extensive damage. Sotka’s passenger, Loftus, suffered extensive and permanent injuries. Sotka was later convicted of the crimes of Operating Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs – OVI, a misdemeanor of the first degree, and Vehicular Assault, a felony of the fourth degree in the Ottawa County Court of Common Pleas.
Loftus sued Sotka and Three Palms, Sotka’s employer. State Auto, who had issued Three Palms a business insurance policy, intervened in the lawsuit and sought a declaratory judgment action that it need not provide a defense or coverage because the accident that resulted in Loftus’ injuries was not covered by the insurance policy because Sotka was not conducting or furthering its business when he crashed his car injuring Loftus.
The trial court granted summary judgment to both Three Palms and State Auto.
LAW AND ARGUMENT
An employer may be subject to respondeat superior liability for an employee’s accident when that employee is acting within the scope of employment. Conduct is within the scope of a servant’s employment if it is of the kind which he is employed to perform, occurs substantially within the authorized limits of time and space, and is actuated, at least in part, by a purpose to serve the employer.
State Auto’s insurance policy provides liability coverage to Three Palms pursuant to the Commercial General Liability Coverage (“CGL policy”). The parties agreed that the CGL policy specifically excludes damages from motor vehicle accidents pursuant to exclusion. The Auto Endorsement provides CGL coverage for damages arising out of the use of any “non-owned auto” in the business by any person.
There was no dispute that Sotka was driving a non-owned auto as defined by the Auto Endorsement. However, the Auto Endorsement only provides coverage while the non-owned auto is being used in Three Palms’ business.
The trial court determined that neither condition was present upon the record and specifically found that there are no genuine issues of material fact that defendant Sotka was not within the course and scope of his employment with defendant Three Palms Crocker Park, LLC at the time of the subject accident.
The court noted that Sotka left the restaurant at 5:15 p.m., traveled a distance of over 60 miles, and admitted the purpose of his trip was to meet with his friend and soon to be new business partner, Loftus. There was no evidence Sotka went to Catawba for any business purpose to benefit Three Palms. Traveling 60 miles and socializing to pursue personal business unrelated to his employer cannot be deemed to be in the service of Three Palms.
Considering Sotka’s conduct in total, assuming he contacted employees and spoke with others about the general aspects of the operation of a restaurant, those actions are merely incidental to the purpose of his evening: socializing with Loftus and furthering a personal business venture. Moreover, the restaurant employees present on the evening of the accident closed the restaurant without Sotka’s direction or input.
The record reflects that Sotka’s purpose in going to Catawba that evening was to socialize and further his own personal business opportunities. Arguing that the accident occurred while Sotka was acting within the scope of his employment or in furtherance of Three Palms’ business, was unbelievable.
Sotka committed the offenses of operating a vehicle under impairment, and vehicular assault, a felony. This conduct cannot fairly and reasonably be deemed to be an ordinary and natural incident or attribute of the service to be rendered, or a natural, direct, and logical result of the pizzeria.
ZALMA OPINION
After spending an evening drinking and reviewing potential opportunities to obtain a new, and personal business with an acquaintance, and then (while intoxicated) starting a return ride at more than 120 miles per hour to take his acquaintance home or to the restaurant owned by Sotka’s employer, Sotka was convicted of a felony as a result of his driving and the injuries of the plaintiff. The conduct was obviously not part of Sotka’s employment as the manager of a Pizzeria and, therefore, no coverage from the employer or the employer’s insurer.

what neurotypical abled people cant seem to get into their heads is aids and medication dont stop people from being neurodivergent and/or disabled. hearing aids dont stop deaf or hard of hearing people from being deaf or hard of hearing, it just makes hearing easier mobility aids such as canes or crutches dont stop people with arthritis, chronic pain, or just general mobility issues from having arthritis, chronic pain, or just general mobility issues, it just makes getting around easier
pain medication doesnt stop people with chronic pain stop being in pain (specifically in the long term), it just makes pain management easier
fidget & stim toys and fidget & stim jewelry dont stop people with anxiety from having anxiety, adhd-ers from having fucked up exectutive function, and autistics not being able to automatically regulate emotions and sensory responses, it just makes dealing with them all easier
various adhd medications doesnt make people not have adhd anymore, it just makes it easier to regulate their executive function.
anxiety medication doesnt get rid of anxiety, it just makes it easier to deal with.
white canes and sight specific service animals dont stop blind people and people with sight impairments from being blind or having sight impairments, it just makes living with them easier.
trauma and emotional support specific service animals dont stop people from having trauma and emotional issues, it just makes dealing with them easier
anti-depressants dont stop people with clinical depression from being depressed, they just make it easier to deal with by stabilizing mood.
immune suppressants dont stop people with any autoimmune condition(s) (such as crohn's, psoriasis or psoratic arthritis, rhumitiod arthritis, myasthenia gravis, fibromyalgia, ect.) being affected in any way affected by their autoimmune condition(s), they just make living with the condition(s) easier.
medication and aids arent magic. they dont make the disabled and/or neurodiverse person not disabled and/or not neurodiverse, they dont entirely cancel out the thing they are used/pescribed for, they just make it easier to exist in a world where whats considered "normal" or "independant" or "a regular human being" doesnt automatically include them.

OPEN LETTER TO FANFICTION WRITERS ON ACCESSIBILITY; PLEASE READ.
first of all, thank you for spending your time, seldom acknowledged and definitely deserving of a compensation you are not receiving, to entertain us. i’m speaking on behalf of more than just blind readers, but everyone. you’re sick as hell.
i’ve summoned you to provide some information you may not already know. i know a lot of you like fonts. especially those who cross post their work on wattpad. i admire any and all acts of aestheticism to a degree, and can understand the desire to use them. (blind folk, sorry y’all. momma’s making a point.) 𝔰𝔱𝔲𝔣𝔣 𝔩𝔦𝔨𝔢 𝔱𝔥𝔦𝔰, it’s cute. 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐟𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 is a little cuter to me, if i had to choose. or maybe 𝓈𝑜𝓂𝑒𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓁𝒾𝓀𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓈?
now, sighted folk: if you’re on mobile, i implore you to participate in a little exercise for me. select this text and scroll through all the copy/paste/define/‘search the web’ options until you get to the speak portion. if you need to change a setting for your phone to do so, would you mind? i’d really appreciate it.
please make your phone read aloud part of my post, and be sure to include any bits with those super cute fonts. 𝕚’𝕝𝕝 𝕥𝕒𝕔𝕜 𝕠𝕟𝕖 𝕠𝕟 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕖𝕟𝕕 𝕠𝕗 𝕞𝕪 𝕡𝕝𝕖𝕒, 𝕣𝕚𝕘𝕙𝕥 𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕖. 𝕚 𝕙𝕠𝕡𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕚𝕤 𝕥𝕣𝕒𝕟𝕤𝕝𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕔𝕠𝕣𝕣𝕖𝕔𝕥𝕝𝕪, 𝕚 𝕕𝕠𝕟’𝕥 𝕨𝕒𝕟𝕥 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕝𝕖𝕤𝕤𝕠𝕟 𝕥𝕠 𝕓𝕖 𝕤𝕢𝕦𝕒𝕟𝕕𝕖𝕣𝕖𝕕 𝕓𝕪 𝕥𝕪𝕡𝕠𝕤 𝕚 𝕔𝕒𝕟’𝕥 𝕤𝕖𝕖.
whether you participated and discovered it for yourself or you thought this was a crock of shit you’d rather not sniff, i’ll tell you! screen readers cannot dictate words using those fonts. at least, on a majority of devices. not mine, or any of my mutuals elsewhere.
you do not have to change your behavior on my behalf, but please be aware that fonts limit access to your work.
blind readers do exist, i exist, and i am bound by the same feelings of dogged longing that make other sad horny bitches read angsty, smutty, father-wounded nonsense.
thanks for making it this far. i really hope my sincerity is being conveyed, reading makes me so happy and i’m not the only person on this app who relies on accessibility settings more often than not. do with this information what you will, and have the day you deserve!
