You see a lot of "there's no platonic explanation for this" type posts, but like, does anyone else ever get like the exact opposite feeling when looking at your brotps that you could never in a million years ship as a couple?

I mean, look at Caitlin and Cisco in the season 4 premiere. Caitlin is at her absolute hottest ever, and Cisco is 100% unfazed, all he cares about is getting his besties back, zero regard for the popping eyeliner and leather jacket and visible bra straps. There is nothing but platonic explanations for that.

Same case with the scene where Lothario Wells's dick is out and Cisco's not having a good time. With all due respect to the Harrisco fandom, I will never understand seeing that as a shippy scene. Cisco saw Harry's doppelgänger's dick and said "fuck no, not with a 100' pole."

Gonna go the less expected route here: Julian Albert, Kamilla Hwang, and Joe West for the fictional character bingo.

Ooh I appreciate the variety!

Julian Albert:

He just kind of Exists to me 🤷‍♀️ I also didn’t like Caitlin/Julian (hence “canon’s not real if I don’t look at it”). I found him kinda off-putting tbh. The show’s no stranger to jerk characters (Harry, Ralph), but Julian doesn’t really have the charisma to endear him to me like Harry and (to a lesser extent) Ralph do.

Also, he was only really there a) for Caitlin’s plotline (and his inclusion in all of it fell flat for me) and b) for the Alchemy red herring (which, as with Savitar pre-reveal, was a waste of time imo)

Kamilla Hwang:

So admittedly I used to be a lot more neutral towards her, if only because I felt she and Cisco were kinda thrown together by the writing and not given a ton of development as a couple. I…still somewhat feel this way, but I also like the two of them together…and as far as Cisco ships go, Kamisco’s my favorite 💞 (Goldenvibe is second for me, and I’ve been warming up to that more lately too)

Also, since Kamilla is your favorite, I’ve become fonder of her and Kamisco through following you 🥰 Kamilla is sweet, driven, and when the show does allow them to spend time together onscreen, they seem to get each other in a very special way. It’s not my favorite ship, but I find it a sweet one regardless.

As for “the fandom’s so mean”…something I’ve noticed is how some Caitlin/Cisco shippers tend to write Kamisco (and Kamilla, by extension) as very boring/bland/not right for Cisco. Which…fine, people can have ship preferences, but I remember one fic in which a character told Cisco, “[Kamilla’s] nice, but you deserve better than nice”, and that irked me.

Like…I get that Kamisco isn’t as developed as Caitlin and Cisco’s friendship, and even I shipped Caitlin/Cisco for a time, but…it rubs me the wrong way to see a white woman prioritized over a WOC as Cisco’s love interest when canonically, he’s only ever romantically been interested in said WOC and not the white woman. I get the fondness for Caitlin/Cisco, but if you need to throw Kamilla, a WOC and Cisco’s canon love interest, under the bus to do it…I question how strong your ship really is.

(Fun fact, fics like this are part of the reason I don’t really ship Caitlin/Cisco anymore!)

Joe West:

So…I have mixed opinions. I love him in most of the show, especially his relationships with Barry, Iris, Cisco, and Wally. Even his dynamic with Harry in s2!

I don’t, however, like him in s1 with Iris, and even with Barry, mostly pre-reveal. When he’s shooting down Barry at every turn, making him feel stupid, not even entertaining the idea of the impossible, not even stopping when he sees Barry’s given up the fight…yeah, that was sucky of him. It shouldn’t have taken Iris’s intervening for him to back off.

And with Iris…the lying, the gaslighting, the coddling…listen, I get he’s overprotective, but he is way moreso of Iris than Barry. Keeping her out of the loop for so long and not even apologizing to her?? Joe, Barry made his choice, but you also asked him to do it! You lied to Iris for months and acted like she was crazy when she mentioned seeing the Streak! You even got mad at Barry for Iris’s choice to put her name on her blog!

And that stuff with Eddie…ugh, that’s infuriating. The way Joe acts so entitled to her love life in s1, the way he denies Eddie permission to propose for ages just because he thinks he knows better than Iris who she should marry?? And the show doesn’t win any points with me for treating him as being right for that.

Oh, and also Armageddon?? When he yells at Barry and Iris for wanting to let Thawne die?? Saying they’d be destroying their family by doing so?? JOE CAN YOU BFFR?? We’re talking about EOBARD THAWNE! Killed Nora Allen, framed Henry Allen, stalked your son-in-law, killed Cisco, killed Eddie, killed your granddaughter, changed time and almost married your daughter??

I do love him in the rest of the show though, I think he’s a great fountain of wisdom and his relationships with his kids shine (hence the square with all the hearts, because when those relationships are at the forefront outside of s1, it’s like magic). It’s just those instances when I dislike him.

It's cute, it's funny, I can see Frost and Cisco fighting over her and that image is hilarious. They both have daddy issues and done crime sprees and I think if Lisa's still a thief on E-2 then she and E-2 Frost definitely did a few jobs together. But ultimately, Lisa's not canonically a meta, and Frost's kiss had the potential to kill her without Cisco's fix-it bandaid syringe thingie.... SO.... while it's so very good, I don't know how stable or serious that relationship would/could be, BUT. if they could hook up they would. friends w benefits. situationship. something something

I saw your post about the show basically killing Caitlin after Cisco left, and I agree with what you said. It also got me thinking that they got Chester and Allegra as basically the “new” version of Cisco and Caitlin, with them on the comms and working in STAR Labs. And I like Chester and Allegra just fine, but I’ll always be both sad and mad that they don’t even have a smidgeon of the story or connection KV have, but they got the canon romance that Cisco and Caitlin should have gotten.

I KNOW. It is literally my villain origin story. I like Allegra and Chester fine - It's not a ship I go crazy over because...It's too late for that. But what drives me insane is how much between 2015-2019 everyone was so anti-Killervibe for STUPID reasons when the show goes ahead with Chester and Allegra with their 10 year age gap and "We're the only straight single main cast on Team flash left" status like...oh so NOW you're doing this??? Pain.

Okay let’s clear something up Killer Frost and Caitlin Snow are the same person. There is no alternate person Killer Frost brings out the anger in Caitlin Snow. Things that Killer Frost says are things Caitlin has been holding down for a while. Remember when she lectured Harry about helping Jesse navigate her powers geeze she needed to take her own advice. I liked it better when her powers were triggered when she was in a dangerous situation that made it more interesting. However she has been shown to know how to control her powers but she has done nothing to learn how to control her powers at all. If I see someone say she no body helped her suppress her powers. Okay 1 Cisco gave her those cuffs to dampen her powers and she even received a necklace to dampen her powers. However she doesn’t use them properly. Caitlin Snow and Killer Frost are the same person they are the same. Danielle Panabaker has said they are the same person the writers have said it and Cisco confirms it canon. I am tired of her actions being excused under the guise of it not really being Caitlin Snow doing those things. Yet Iris is dragged by the fandom for snapping at Caitlin and actually taking on leadership role at STAR labs trying to keep her city safe. However no one says anything about Caitlin fucking off for six months or how Caitlin owes the whole team an apology or the fact she is welcomed back so easily and trusted just goes over people’s head. Anyways any thoughts are welcomed.

🔥 one more for the road

lets talk about kv and why i don’t like it, shall we?

(a bit of background: when i was younger, i got bullied. like, a lot. so much. and this…gets seriously into some of that. there was a girl, lets call her A, and we were best friends for…three years, i think. like, very very best friends. us and another girl, S. they lived on the same street so they were a lot closer to each other than either of them were to me. looking back on it, i’m sure i had a baby crush on both of them, but a stronger one on A. 

i wanted her approval so, so badly, but she was toxic and manipulative and shitty so i tried to cut myself off from her. (S wasn’t so lucky but thankfully transferred from the school a year before i did.) she retaliated by turning everyone in the school against me. i dont know how she managed to get the whole school and not just our class, but she did. i had one friend left. there’s more, but…yeah. that’s the background i’m approaching this with.)

so let’s take a look at the friendship between cisco and caitlin, shall we?

outside of some offscreen interaction that we hear about (caitlin staying over at cisco’s house after dante died and things like that), cisco is pretty much the only one consistently putting in the work to keep their friendship alive. he believes in her, he loves her (that’s something i won’t deny, though imo it’s platonic love), he trusts her, and he wants to help her.

caitlin’s tried to kill him several times.

and it was 100% intentional, too. remember when cindy had to push cisco through a breach so that caitlin wouldn’t stab him through the heart with an icicle? yeah, me too. that’s the biggest example i can think of, but there are others (all of them in season 3 thus far, of course, since we’re hardly into season 4).

(now, i know the flash fandom likes to pretend that caitlin is a system and it’s not her fault because killer frost did it, and to that i say wow! here are some helpful links for you to learn what the fuck DID and OSDD/DDNOS are! (x, x, x, x, x,) always been how it’s been in the comics, too. it’s one person.)

cisco consistently lets caitlin back into his life no matter how many times she hurts him or even tries to kill him. because caitlin says that she’s changed (a lie). to me, someone who’s had those words said to them over and over again by people out to hurt me, that does not sound like a very good basis for a romantic relationship. or any relationship at all.

if you think i’m making cisco out to be an innocent victim, i’m not. he also outed caitlin’s powers to the rest of the team without her consent to it, which was…deeply uncomfortable to me as somebody who has had that same threat held over my head before with regards to gender/sexuality. 

also, it’s very suspect that kv shippers like to say it’s racist if you don’t ship it even though they’re erasing cisco’s canon love interest who’s a woman of color but whatever, that’s a topic for another post.

tl;dr it’s a toxic and borderline abusive friendship and a pairing where one person has tried to kill the other multiple times without any remorse.

also i’m exhausted so this post probably doesn’t make any fucking sense but oh well!

Caitlin for the character bingo!

Funnily enough, she was my least favorite character when I started watching the show, and I was neutral about her for a while, until season 4, which was when I started to actually like her. I kinda felt like she was just there to be the tropey uptight-smart-girl character at first, and while I don't feel that way about her anymore (even when rewatching the earlier seasons), it did take me some time to warm up to her. I think part of that had to do with my thinking she would inevitably get a romantic storyline with Barry and/or Cisco, and I was dreading seeing that happen (with Barry because I didn't care, and with Cisco because I value their friendship too much as-is to want it to be anything else), but once it became clear that the show wasn't gonna go either of those routes with her, I was able to relax and start to appreciate her more.

So the funny thing about Caitlin—I love her, but I dislike so many of her storylines. She spent three seasons being wrapped up in love interest subplots, and when she finally broke out of that cycle, everything started to revolve around Frost. Which wasn't a bad thing at first, but instead of seizing the opportunity to give Caitlin more development, instead the show did the exact opposite, and took away parts of her personality, history, and role on the team, and attributed them to Frost instead, whom they had decided was now a completely different person and not a repressed side of Caitlin anymore. And while there are things I love about them being separate characters, that retcon seriously screwed Caitlin over by limiting her screen time and stunting her potential for more growth (plus it kinda felt like the writers were more interested in Frost, and they didn't know what to do with Caitlin once they'd amputated Frost's personality traits from her, so to speak).

Her treatment in season 8 had a lot to do with why I didn't even watch season 9. She became the character I was most invested in after Cisco left (which I was not expecting), and I just had zero interest in watching things get worse and worse for her.

I hesitated to mark off "the fandom is so mean", because she IS a major fan favorite, but at the same time it's...complicated. You have the section of Iris stans who hate her just to spite Snowbarry shippers, and you have the Frost fans who consider Caitlin to be the lesser/boring Snow, and then there's the chunk of Snowbarry shippers who...don't actually seem to really appreciate her, they just want her with Barry because she's not Iris?? (not black, that is) So like she's simultaneously overrated for qualities she doesn't have, and under-appreciated for qualities she does have.

And of course, I would be remiss not to mention @frosty-the-killer-doll's near-constant cheerleading, endearing me to Caitlin even further.

22. Popular character you hate?

Kylo Ren. His redemption was poorly done, and…yes, he should’ve lived, but not for some awful romance plotline. He should’ve lived so that he could do the hard work of atoning.

Or they should’ve gone full-fledged villain with him. Because…they were going for Vader parallels, but they did NOT stick the landing at all.

23. Unpopular character you love?

Nora West-Allen! I understand the criticisms about her, which is why I only write her around the age of 18 (since imo that’s what she should’ve been), and there are some inconsistencies in what she knows about Thawne, but aside from that…idk I found her compelling and I love the Westallen family 🥰

(I also think she’s great in s7, even if I hated the Godspeed arc and that season as a whole)

26. Most shippable character?

Probably Iris honestly, she’s shippable with a bunch of characters 😂 notably Barry, Eddie, Kendra, and Caitlin!

Cisco’s also pretty shippable: Barry, Cynthia, Kendra, Kamilla (even Lisa, if you’re so inclined)

27. Least shippable character?

There’s a few that could fall into this category (Azula, Ozai, etc), but definitely Thawne. The thing he had with Meena in s8 was sweet, but they had to turn him very OOC to make it work, and we only knew this version of Thawne for an episode or two, so it wasn’t even enough time to get attached to them.

Right like I was so confused. I loathe SB with everything in me and I didn't think there was a ship I will ever hate as much as that one but man, lately K/V has been trying it. I never seen anything like this before with these two ships, they completely disregard the feelings of everyone involved with these ships in order to ship and make up their own narratives, it's crazy.

I was truly indifferent to k/v before this season. Truly and utterly. Like I didn’t ship it, but I understood the thought behind it, I even read the fics, but this season the way folks in the fandom have been going about it and sticking to acting like they’re almost owed the ship even though: 1)they’ve never actually glanced down that road, it’s easy to see how it could happen but that doesn’t mean the writers have ever given us anything that hints at it actually happening, even Carlos and Danielle have said time and again it’s platonic and 2)Cait has given into being evil and is actively trying to kill all of her friends...There’s also the added fact that I’ve noticed the ship itself focuses on more how good Cisco is to Cait rather than how Cait is to Cisco.
