#anyway abolish prison

i am not exaggerating when i say that the prison system is one of the most egregious and horrific human rights violations of the modern age and there's absolutely nothing redemptive or worthwhile about it. abolition is the only solution.

I typically ignore stupid takes on Tumblr but I've been grinding and gnashing my teeth for the past HOUR over that stupid fucking post. There's so many things wrong with it but people are just reading the surface of it (ah yes, of course white collar criminals exist bc they don't have enough money already 🙄) I'm going to show it to my criminology lecturers next semester just to see them writhe

niceys positive anon!! i don't agree with you on everything but you are so clearly like well read and well rounded that you've helped me think through a lot of my own inconsistencies and hypocrises in my own political and social thought, even if i do have slightly different conclusions at times then u (mainly because i believe there's more of a place for idealism and 'mind politics' than u do). anyway this is a preamble to ask if you have recommended reading in the past and if not if you had any recommended reading? there's some obvious like Read Marx but beyond that im always a little lost wading through theory and given you seem well read and i always admire your takes, i wondered about your recs

Hey so if youre one of the chucklefuck "leftists" in the notes of my posts where im saying forced institutionalization is bad and youre going welllllllll in some cases its ok actually, id like to ask you why you think having police apprehend someone struggling with their mental health (which is already bad enough bc you know cops are itching for any excuse to use excessive force, especially on the mentally ill), being locked up in essentially what is no better than a prison where they do pretty much nothing to try and help whatever your mental health issue is, keep you for so long that you miss enough work that you lose your job and either become homeless or have to go back to relying financially on an abuser that they have successfully escaped that caused a lot of their mental health issues in the first place, why do you think that is going to be helpful in anyway to someone who is struggling with their mental health? Because this is the reality of the majority of the people who are forcibly institutionalized, the majority cannot afford it and even the ones that can still arent helped because it is an abusive system that allows you no autonomy. An abusive system that doesnt solve the cause of your mental health struggles and sends you back out into the world worse off than when you came in, they just keep you in a room and a hospital gown for a couple of days to a couple of months. When you treat mentally ill people like criminals obviously theyre not going to get better. Matter of fact, this is why prisons need to be abolished too. I would love to get better! Most mentally ill people would! Unfortunately the meat grinder of capitalism doesnt permit it and forced institutionalization makes it worse! Thanks and fuck you in advance.

Buggy x Mihawk x Crocodile prompt: Mihawk and Crocodile's bullying and beatings start taking a toll on Buggy, especially since he's somehow fallen irrevocably in love with both his "business partners". After a incident where Crocodile goes too far and Mihawk actually intervenes to stop him, Buggy falls fully into despair and decides to fully fall into the ocean to certain death. He waits until late at night and sneaks off to the docks. He falls in and expects the end but just as everything goes dark he sees a pair of golden eyes and hands reaching for him. When Buggy opens his eyes again he's very much alive, with Mihawk and Crocodile keeping vigil over him. Mihawk is mighty pissed and Crocodile is uncomfortable in his guilt. They figure things out eventually, messily and all.
Bestie if you didn't read this post, this is for you (as well as some of my other anons/ ppl who sent in requests ) LOL (it explains my shenanigans.)
ANYWAYS!!! Bby your idea...she's giving slow burn...she's giving...make it hurt...She's giving multi-chapter series realness. She deserves so much more than a one shot. She's a star who deserves to shine brightly...and i'm giving her what she deserves LOL. i don't have a title, so fuck it we ball, but consider this a prologue since it just really goes over Cross Guild's past briefly. So for anyone about to read,i'm not telling you how to live your life, but i'm juuuust saying you might want to have read up to like Ch 1082?
Tumblr media
The sounds of canons being fired and screaming can be heard all over the island, and Buggy swears that he’s moments away from having a full blown panic attack. Why now? Why did they suddenly decide to abolish the warlord system? Buggy was just starting to enjoy his newfound power and, more importantly, protection. His men keep screaming at him, begging for him to do something because Buggy’s so strong and powerful, and mighty after all. He sailed the sea with Gol. D Rogers, Dark King Rayleigh, and a young Red Haired Shanks after all. He ‘led’ a prison escape after all. He ‘fought’ in the war after all… He’s the one who’s a former warlord of the sea after all…  Buggy must be a formidable foe, right? Buggy must be able to bring him and his men to victory, right? Buggy can take on some marines…right…?
Buggy watches in horror as a fleet of marines attack his battle ships, sinking them, as they gradually begin to encircle the entire island. Oh, they’re doomed. His men are still yelling at him, asking him questions that he can barely process at the moment because he can’t breathe let alone talk.
“Chairman Buggy, what are your orders, sir?!”
”Chairman Buggy, the marines just sank another one of our ships.”
“Captain Buggy, why are you just standing there?!”
“Chairman Buggy, do something!!”
“Captain!!!”
Buggy’s…Buggy’s got to go, like, right now. He can’t handle this. He doesn’t know what to do, this attack happened so fast… He swears the world government abolished the warlord system just this morning, and they already have marines on their ass. He needs off this island before it burns down and he turns to ash with it. He hopes and prays that he still has at least one good ship that he can escape on, and as for his men…
God, Buggy can’t do this. He can’t do this. The amount of men he controls has grown considerably after the war, and he can’t’ confidently say he can evacuate everyone on the island, not that he thinks anyone wants to leave in the first place. His kids are all dedicated and always willing to fight…(Buggy wishes he can say the same.)
Screw it, he’s calling for that evacuation order.
“Chairman Buggy, someone’s attacking the marines!” Someone’s attacking the marines…? Did Buggy have men out at sea that are now returning home and diligently attacking the marines now that they see the island is under attack? Does he have any allies who were conveniently on their way to visit, when they noticed the marines were attacking them? Is this just another group of pirates who noticed the marines and wanted to make a name for themselves, so they decided to attack them while they just so happened to be attacking Emptee Bluffs Island? Who are the heroes saving Buggy and his children?!
“Hey! It’s Crocodile!”
“Chairman Buggy, Crocodile is here to save us!!”
As soon as Buggy hears that name, his stomach drops. No, why? Why now? Why is this all happening to him now? There’s only one reason why Crocodile would be coming to Emptee Bluffs island, and Buggy…Buggy needs to leave. Forget his men, they’ll be fine, Buggy’s the one whose life is in grave danger. In all honesty, he’d rather be facing the Marines than have to deal with Crocodile’s wrath.
Buggy leaves the tent where he makes all his official announcements to his men, and his men watch him, confused, as he tries to make his escape. Some of them even mindlessly try to follow him, and Buggy doesn’t have the heart to tell the men following him to leave him alone because they’ll just bring unneeded attention to Buggy while he tries to flee. He makes it two, no, three steps out of the tent before he sees him, heading his way. “AHHH!”  Buggy screams at the top of his lungs, instantly, spinning back around on his heels and trying to push through a crowd of men, “Let me through! Let me through!!!” He orders them, trying to get back inside his tent and hide.
“Chairman…What’s wrong…it’s just Crocodile?”
It is not just Crocodile. Do his men not realize how scary this man is? Do they not realize that their beloved Chairman and Captain is moments away from getting his ass beaten? Buggy forces himself through all the bodies in front of him and rushes back into the tent, but it’s too late.
“Running away, Buggy?” He hears a deep, intimidating voice call out from behind him. Ah, so it looks like this is the end of the road for Buggy, huh…? What does he do now, he doesn’t think he can out run Crocodile…
Beg for mercy?
Buggy slowly turns around, waving nervously at Crocodile, “Uh, hey!” He greets him, voice already shaking as he speaks. He’s going to scream, cry, and vomit, and all in that order. “I wasn’t running away… I was just, uh…” he trails off, unsure of what excuse he could possibly use in this situation because Crocodile saw him make a run for it with his own eyes. He notices belatedly that Crocodile has that other tall, slightly less intimidating but still extremely scary, fellow with him…Daz…? They all escaped prison together, didn’t they? And…There’s also…Mihawk? Why is Mihawk with him?
Crocodile’s cold voice brings Buggy crashing back down to reality, “Whatever. Where’s my money, clown?” Where’s his money…right…Right…the money that Buggy borrowed after the war, and most definitely has right now… That money…
(He’s lucky if he even has money for lunch.)
Buggy forces a bright smile onto his face, “Y-your money?!” he repeats, trying to buy himself some more time while he figures out an excuse that’ll save his ass. “Well.. You see.. about that…” he’s just about to start babbling bullshit when Crocodile narrows his eyes at him, giving him the nastiest look. Oh! Okay! “Crocodile, please.” Buggy whines, “Look around, I have so many kids to feed…and… and It’s not exactly like business has been booming…and, and…I just lost my biggest money makers…and…”
Buggy’s never been one to admit his failures,  but this is a matter of life or death, and truth be told, Buggy’s delivery service hasn’t been doing too hot lately, but he just needs a little bit more time! He… He can fix everything, and get Crocodile his money back. “Please, just...Give me a month…” He begs, and Crocodile gives him that look again. Oh, okay! That’s obviously way too much time! “Three weeks, give me three weeks and I’ll have all your money… plus interest…”
Truth be told there’s no way in hell he’d ever be able to repay Crocodile the amount of money he owes him in that amount of time, and he sure wouldn’t be able to pay him interest on top of everything, but he… he just needs an excuse. If Crocodile believes him, then… Then as soon as he gets the chance, he’ll pack up and leave. He’ll dye his hair and change his name, and…
Crocodile scowls at him, “You’re saying you don’t have my money?” Well, no…but, yes… but, no he’s definitely not saying anything like that…what… what he is saying is that he’s broke right now, and just needs a little bit more time… “That’s fine.” Crocodile tells him, despite still having a terrifying look on his face, and there’s a moment where Buggy’s filled with hope.  Is...is his life saved? “I can just sell you.” Crocodile says the words, ‘I can just sell you.’ nonchalantly, and like Buggy isn't human, like…like he’s nothing more but an object, and like his life has no meaning to it. God, what did Buggy get himself into?
“Hey…Hey…Croccy, baby…Hey!” Buggy raises his hands up. Is it hot in here? Is Buggy the only one sweating right now? “We’re friends…remember? We escaped Impel down together remember?!” he stammers, trying to remind Crocodile of all the good times they shared together like….when they… well, uh, there was that one time where they… and then there was that other time when they… Oof.
Buggy is the one using his powers to make himself look ten times bigger than he should actually be right now, but for some reason, he still feels so small especially as he picks up the not so subtle shifts in Crocodile’s expression. He goes from slightly irked, to fully annoyed, to looking like he’s moments away from ripping Buggy to shreds.  “Oh, I remember, but I need my money now. I’m starting a new company and I need that money, clown.” Crocodile announces, and Buggy’s not sure how much longer he has before Crocodile snaps and beats him within an inch of his life. “If you can’t pay me back now, you need to make up for the money you’ve borrowed in other ways. Understand?”
Buggy swallows hard. God, what now? What does he say now? He considers making a run for it again, when all of a sudden an idea forms in his gigantic brain, “Oh!” He exclaims, “I know! I know! I can be your errand boy, or something,” he suggests, “I can work off my debt to you!” Crocodile’s cold, harden expression remains on his face, until Buggy casually stammers out:
“I…I have men who can give your new company the flashiest debut possible! My men can do it all: printing, design, advertisement, you name it…Just please don’t kill me!”
Somehow Buggy survives his encounter with both The Marines and Crocodile…Don’t ask him how, he’s always had the stupidest of luck. It doesn’t matter though, as soon as Buggy gets the okay from Crocodile, he’s looking for the best choice among all his men to design a flyer for their, well, Crocodile and Mihawk’s new company; Cross guild, hm, it’s got sort of a ring to it.
Buggy finds a few of his men and orders them to design and distribute a flyer for Cross Guild, and tells them to make it look flashy…because if it’s not, Buggy can kiss his life and or freedom goodbye.
Okay, that should keep Crocodile off his ass for a couple of days, right…? It’ll take his men a few days to design a breath taking flyer and then distribute it, and then Crocodile will see that Buggy’s actually a really useful guy after all!
That’s how Buggy thought things would go at least.
Buggy’s most devoted followers make a flyer for Cross Guild in a day and a half, taking pride in the fact that they didn’t stop for a break even once during the process, and the results are: Terrifying. As soon as he sees the poster, Buggy knows that he’s doomed and that what little chance he had at surviving and living a somewhat decent life was gone. It’s not like the flyer is poorly designed…it’s just… Buggy’s face is sort of… for lack of better terms... his men made it so that Buggy was in the center of attention while the other two look like an after thought, and that’s…that’s not what he wanted.
Buggy’s just an errand boy!
As soon as he sees Cross Guild’s debut flyer, Buggy feels violently ill again, like he’s going to throw up his breakfast, and he quickly orders his men to redesign the flyer so that Buggy doesn’t get killed, but they...
“Oh, we already distributed it.”
Okay, don’t panic. Don’t panic, maybe there’s time to fix this..or at least run away before Crocodile and Mihawk see the flyer. Buggy exhales a shaky breath, trying to figure out what he’s going to do about this whole flyer situation. Is...is there any way to just…just, make all the flyers go away? No? It doesn’t work like that?
Fuck.

AITA for letting multiple people die for my own entertainment?
I (F, adult) am queen of my kingdom. Er, well… was, I suppose. But I haven’t died yet, so that still makes me the rightful queen!
Ahem. Anyways. My kingdom is currently in a war against other kingdoms. I am allied with a princess battling against her sisters for the throne of her own kingdom. And as one may expect, we get many prisoners. So I thought - hey, why don’t I pit them against each other in my arena? That way, me and my own subjects can have some proper entertainment. It would be delightful!
So I did. Every day, I make two of my prisoners fight each other to the death. And I tell the idiots that if they win enough fights, they get to be set free! Of course, this isn’t the case - because they always face my own self-appointed champion as their last match. And she’s NEVER lost! Isn’t it splendid?
Well, it WAS. Until some wormy little children from some sort of vague prophecy came and abolished my entire operation on my BIRTHDAY, just because they were “peaceful” and didn’t wanna fight each other. They even convinced my own champion to go against me! (But I managed to get her back on my side.) One of the little brats even used some kind of venom to MELT part of my face off! And now my beauty is not nearly as elegant as it once was, I’m afraid.
So now, here I am - being held prisoner in my former allied princess’s tower of oddities she’s collected over the years. The guard who comes to give me food every so often says I’m in the wrong, but surely that can’t be true. So I made this to make sure people are on my side. So, AITA?

Anyway there's something really weird to me about the attitudes regarding morality itself coming from a lot of the prison/death pentalty/police abolishment crowd. You will see them ranting about how ineffective and ultimately weaponized against any sort of marginalization these systems are (which, before you get mad, big agree) but then you will see these same people pointing fingers at individuals who have had bad actions or bad choices in the past and now have clearly changed and they will also rant about how xyz person is an unforgivable terrible monster of a human being that deserves no peace despite changed behavior and apology being present in said person.
Often times these people will be the exact same marginalizations that their politics are supposed to be protecting.
It's weird, to me. Either you believe everyone deserves a second chance, everyone can change for the better, no one deserves to be publicly executed or tortured or humiliated, unending/threat of punishment is not the way to changed behavior... or you don't.
Maybe I am too neurodivergent for this conversation. It seems pretty black and white to me.

Jessie: what's work like? I've never had a job before
Shiloh: oh, it's mostly boring. They pay you to do it for a reason, I guess
Jessie: I could fix that for you-
Shiloh: maybe... Let's talk about your day first, what did you do today?
Jessie: oh uuuhhh I guess it started when I made the sun emit more blue light so everything's a little less yellow. I think the yellow washes out my fur. Then I abolished the prison industrial complex but it was kind of annoying with all of the community project stuff being so complicated with the ex-prisoners— I don't wanna CONSTANTLY waste time on that, so I brought that back. Super prison, just in case. Then i created a toxic flower species that cures cancer if you isolate part of the toxin. Wanted to see how long that would take, nobody's found it yet. Thennn— OH. I went to the store to get something and I got to pet somebody's dog! It was a service dog. I ended up not buying anything, I didn't have my wallet ANYWAY then I burned down an orphanage, I populated mars with life but I got bored after several billenia so I—
Shiloh: is billenia a real word? Or a portmanteau?
Jessie: well if it's not real, it is, actually. Anyway i abandoned the mars project, I don't think they're gonna last frankly. I'm gonna check on them in like 400,000 years and if they made the wrong religion they definitely will not last. Aaand I was in the middle of rearranging a guy's organs for being a bad father figure to destress when I teleported here because I always teleport here right before you get home. It's a lot easier than keeping track of it psychically but it makes me look pretty all-knowing. Pretty unfocused day overall. I'm looking for new direction now that I finished planting contradictory prophecies in every notable religious figure's teachings to make the truth unclear
Shiloh: *crosses legs* tell me more about the dog

re the shit happening in palestine
nobody knows what will happen i guess, but like. what's most likely? my doomscrolling brain can produce possibilities from 'genocide to rival the worst of the 20th century' through 'syria-style proxy war' all the way up to 'first act of wwiii', and I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop of the start of the ground invasion that would presumably make the sickening carnage of the last couple weeks look like nothing. meanwhile the countries around Israel are flinging a handful of rockets at US and Israeli military bases.
so like Israel's got to know that if it sends its whole army into Gaza, then Hezbollah etc. will attack and things will get much worse for them, so at some point they have to back down right? they're already having to play desperate PR damage control after they blew up that hospital, and even the U.S. is starting to say out of the corner of its mouth 'hey that's a bit much there buddy, go easy on the civilian slaughter'. on the other hand Israel seems to be pushing even fashier to enforce a pro-war sentiment internally - locking up any Arab citizen who says something anti-war, banning news orgs like Al Jazeera who don't toe the line, etc. like is it just going to fall back to the status quo plus several thousand bodies, or are we too far from that equilibrium at this point?
and as for Hamas and its allies - obviously they would have known that if they carried out a massive, bloody attack on Israel, the Israelis would go completely berserk and launch an even larger reprisal on the population of Gaza. ergo, they had to have believed that whatever they would achieve through such an attack might be 'worth that price', and have some sense of how things might go next - and they're still fighting, shooting rockets etc., but what's their current objective, just to survive as an organisation until other countries get pulled in against Israel?
really what i want to have some reason to believe is that there might be any remotely plausible way this can still work out to a 'better' state of affairs (no ethnic cleansing, no megadeaths - but also no more ghettoes, and somehow, end-of-apartheid-style negotiations to abolish the current Israeli state so that Palestinians can return home with equal legal rights etc.).
i see people talking like here is how the Palestinians will still win, that this is the first act in the overthrowing of Israel, even defining various neighbouring Islamic states as 'the resistance', because you need a team to cheer for I guess, enemy-of-my-enemy logic. but what seems more likely to come from that kind of escalation would just be a massive war which, if recent wars are anything to go by, will kill a lot of people and push every state/group involved to greater levels of internal repression, but eventually peter out without any sort of clear outcome. so... is Israel somehow much more fragile than it used to be? is there reason to think the US would cut it off?
anyway. for some historical comparisons - the Haitian Revolution took a little over 12 years (1791-1804) between the initial slave revolt and establishing an independent country (which promptly got squashed with debt and trade sanctions by the bitter European powers). in South Africa, the ANC turned to insurgency in the wake of the Sharpeville Massacre of 1960, and about 31 years later negotiations began for the end of apartheid (during the collapse of the USSR, which shifted the priorities of the US etc. who had been backing the apartheid gov). the Algerian War of Independence lasted about seven years (1954-1962). if this anti-colonial war is going to follow a similar trajectory... well, it depends when you start counting I guess, but probably it would take a decade or more to approach any sort of 'resolution' you could name.
the status quo obviously couldn't last indefinitely, you can't just keep a population in a massive prison and gradually bleed them out and not expect them to fight back, but in terms of ways this could fall down, there are some obviously very bad outcomes (nakba 2, surviving palestinians in Gaza exiled to e.g. egypt) that could establish a new equilibrium (apartheid state annexes the whole region after sufficiently depopulating it to establish a majority). that's not implausible, it's basically what happened in the U.S.A., Canada and Australia - the settler population now outnumbers the indigenous ones by orders of magnitude, and maintains a complicated legal regime to control the surviving population (reservations etc.). that's presumbly the outcome the present state of Israel 'wants' to achieve, gradually enough that it doesn't look too bad on TV. however, it's not there yet - in the combined territory of Israel and Palestine, there's presently roughly equal numbers of people defined by the census to be Jewish vs Palestinian.
conversely... the state of Israel's constantly broadcast fears about a combined 'one state solution' resulting in the Jewish population being treated the way the Israeli state currently treats the Palestinians (ethnic cleansing, massacres etc.), and the great-replacement birthrate bullshit, are surely completely overblown (notably the much smaller white population in South Africa was not banished at the end of apartheid), but what happens rather depends exactly how the state of Israel might collapse and who would hold power afterwards. and... in South Africa, the apartheid government in the last few apartheid years started to realise it had lost the game, and was making some paltry concessions - which the Israeli gov. is not doing at all, seeming to prefer to rush headlong into an 'us or them' war of annihilation, confident the U.S. will let it do whatever reckless shit it wants?
all in all it's a horrifying mess and I find it hard to feel any sort of hope that it won't just get worse in one of a dozen different ways. would love to be convinced otherwise. i always assume things will go in the bleakest way possible, which is not a very reliable mindset.

anyways stories where the message is "you are never fallen so far that you cannot begin again" are awesome. stories where the message is "you are not entitled to forgiveness, but that does not mean you can't change" are awesome. punitive justice is a poison on society and tales that breed restoration and rehabilitation are beautiful and radical and especially good for kids. abolish prison. kill the cop inside your head.

is there anything we should know about the “barbary slave trade”? am i right in thinking the western nations went to war twice over white slavery and ended it before they abolished atlntic african slave trade?? Also what abought Tamazight/ Amazigh nationalism? Sorry if this is too much
TLDR:
Barbary slave trade did exist it was different from the transatlantic slave trade and colonialism actually didn’t happen to stop it. They used it as an excuse long after because it sounded better than the truth.
The majority of what people identify as Amazigh nationalism is actually not nationalism but legitimate demands that are nothing more than simple rights. The rest is complete bullshit that often comes from diaspora kids in Europe (especially France) who are filled with internalized racism and have an identity crisis.
More details below the cut it’s long beware 😂
First thing first when one think about slavery the first thing that comes to mind is the transatlantic slave trade so I will start by explaining how the Barbary slave trade was DIFFERENT. Different does not mean good it means different.
The Barbary slave trade wasn’t based on race and the majority (not all) of the slaves were sailors whose ship had been seized by the Barbary pirates. The pirates would then decide if it was a better option to sell the prisoner or to ask for a ransom and go ahead with said better option. The Ottoman Empire had a rule forbidding taking a fellow Muslim as a slave, the « Barbary coast » aka the North African coast was part of/allied with the Ottoman Empire depending on the time and region so the pirates respected that rule. Those who reverted or those who were already Muslims were automatically freed. It was approved by the local rulers for two reasons they didn’t mind and the pirates were not people you should anger they would totally organize coup against the rulers they disliked.
Now the West especially France LOVES to pretend the colonization of Algeria happened to stop the Barbary pirates to take white slaves. This is a fucking lie. They colonized Algeria for two reasons first and main one is that they owed a ton of money to Algeria. During the Egyptian campaign Napoleon’s troops ended up lacking in food/wheat at the same time the south of France was lacking in food/wheat so bringing the wheat from France wasn’t an option. Algeria was the granary of Africa so Napoleon asked for some wheat Algeria was like « okay we can sell you wheat » Napoleon was like « meeeeeh I don’t have the money right right now give me a loan » Algeria said no. A family in Algeria decided to not mind their business and get into it. Algeria accepted to give the loan. 29 years later Algeria still didn’t have the money. France refused to pay saying that the debt was contracted by Napoleon not the current king (Charles X) anyway so why should he pay. It wasn’t even the same regime… France sent a consul with the order to NOT accept any deal. The Dey of Algeria got angry and he gave a slap with his fan to the consul (he used a fucking feather fan meant to fan away flies… even with ALL his strength it wouldn’t have been painful). France takes it as an opportunity to call it a declaration of war and attack Algeria. The second reason is that Charles X was losing power he needed a win on top of it the British empire wasn’t doing that bad so Charles X thought Algeria could be that win.
So they didn’t even colonize North Africa to stop the Barbary slave trade. It’s just that later they figured it sounded better to say it was to stop slavery than to admit it was about trying to save a dying reign and to avoid paying a debt.
I’m mentioning specifically Algeria and France because that’s what I know best AND because to my knowledge only France tried to justify colonialism with that argument and I know for sure it’s bullshit. It’s common knowledge that it started with the « coup d’éventail » but somehow France managed to rebrand it as a fight against slavery because it sounds better.
As for Amazigh nationalism. I’m an Arabized Algerian. I do have an Amazigh culture but it’s mixed and Arabized. So I am not the best to answer. That being said there’s two types of « Amazigh nationalism ».
The first one is not even nationalism in my opinion but it’s often wrongly identified as such. It’s not really Amazigh nationalism because their demands are just legitimate obvious stuff I don’t call that nationalism and because Imazighen are composed of multiple tribes with similarities and differences. While people often support each other their demand are specific and different. This first group is the more common the ones that just want to be recognized as such they don’t want to be Arabized they acknowledge that the ones who have been Arabized are not actual Arab colonizers. From what I saw and know those are the majority. I 100% support them. I’m friend with many of them some are my family members. I learned a lot with them. Honestly regardless of my personal experience and opinion what they are asking is perfectly normal and I would be a fucking bitch if I denied that it wasn’t nothing more than a simple right. Having the option to fill paperwork in their language, having classes in said language… it’s totally legitimate.
Then there’s the second category. Those are a small minority but oh boy how loud they are. They often live in France. They know nothing about their history and culture they just spit bullshit out of nowhere to calm their identity crisis and internalized racism. Very often the first category of Amazigh nationalists joke and ask them « do your parents even know that your Amazigh? » because they often come from Arabized family.
Basically France labels all North Africans as Arabs and France hates Arabs. So when they have an identity crisis the non Arabized North Africans resent that forced Arabization imposed by France and they resent the Arabized because he is either an Arab colonizers or he is a traitor who labels himself as Arabs and is the reason why they get labeled as Arabs themselves and get hated because of it. The more common one in this second category is the one who is Arabized he internalized all that racism and then one day he realized his ancestors were most likely not Arabs and he ran with it. They mix everything their parents don’t even know their child is amazigh. They be like « Us Imazighen people do X » and it’s something very specific from one tribe but if you have the audacity to say « hey just a heads up it’s not all Imazighen who do that it’s only these tribes » they feel insulted and say you misunderstood them and start being super condescending. Nobody likes them and they are only popular in far right western space who want to use them to absolve themselves of colonialism and to destabilize North African countries and in white liberal spaces who think they are representative of their region and will then turn around and attack OTHER NORTH AFRICANS who disagree…
Anyway it’s long and I’m rambling at this point. So I’ll stop I don’t even know if I answered your questions.

God damnit, how dare season 5 remind me why I like this show! 😤
Anyway this isn't going to be that. This is the next instalment in Why the Dragons and Elves in the Dragon Prince are Fantasy Racists.
Exhibit: the Order of the Blood Moon.
Around the same time as Dragon Queen Luna was performing ethnic cleansing a sect of Moonshadow elves under her rule created a blood magic that artificially extended their lifespan and enhanced their abilities.
By which I mean they became vampires.
The principles of Dark Magic are the use of body parts (or life force) of magical creatures to perform magic.
The principles of the Blood Moon Order's magic is the consumption of blood in order to fuel their powers.
The same queen that exiled humanity, millions of people, for their "abuse" of magic sanctioned the practices of the Order!
Which include feeding directly from enemy combatants.
And once Thunder came to power and he abolished the Order, did he punish all Moonshadow elves for the actions of a handful?
No, of course not. Only actual members of the Order were exterminated. They're just a few bad apples.
Unlike Dark Mages who are living proof that all humans are inherently evil.
Speaking of human mages: The mage that built Aaravos' prison.
That's right, the archdragons brought in a human mage to be the architect behind the imprisonment of the most dangerous being in all of Xadia.
But that did nothing to change their opinion on humans. Because she was One of the Good Ones. She wasn't "one of them".

AITA for doing the right thing for the wrong reasons? (TIME SENSITIVE)
hi sorry for typos i’m tryping this while having a mental break in my dead friend’s bedroom in the middle of the night while my alive friend is asleep but!! my evil evil dad gave us till february 3rd to settle this so i don’t have much time
none of you will know this cause he’s been real sneaky about it but this year my (M16) dad (M36) took over reality and insterstated his own cringe utopia over it. he brought dead ppl back to life (not my dead friend tho) amd he brainwashed every bad person into being a good person, he abolished the prison system and made gay marriage legal and now the economy’s real good ig??? (idk anything about the economy but ok) everywhere you go there’s happy ppl everywhere and it creeps me out
ugh i’m doing such a crappy job at explaining why this is a bad thing. i SWEAR he’s doing it to spite me cause he knows no one will ever believe me fml
we just found out he literally brainwashed my alive friend (ig i’m calling her that now. F16) into thinking she was my dead friend (her twin sister) so she pretended to be her for a YEAR cause he thought that would make her “happy” i guess?? i’m telling you he’s CRAZY. sorry that word stimatagzes mental illness. i mean he’s seriously bonker balls.
you HAVE to trust me. this man has been living wth me for fifteen years and he doesn’t even know what’s good for ME so how would he know what’s good for the world?
so my friends and i agreed to fight him so everything goes back to normal. and they all made such good points talking abt why this is important to them, cause they want freedom to learn and grow and decide their own futures, and they don’t wanna forget the work they did to get where they are now and obvs i agree w all of that stuff but i feel so stupid cause this is my dad and idk--
he already abandoned my mom and now he’s abandoning me too? he even made my friends’ wishes come true but he didn’t do anything for me. i’m his son but i’m like the only person in the world whose happiness he doesn’t care about. idk what did i ever do to him. i hate him so much dad if you’re reading this i hate you no matter what happens
wow it’s embarrassing. everyone’s got these grand ideological reasons to fight him but all i can think about is how i don’t wanna be the child who has to suffer so everyone else gets to be happy. the only one who’s as pissed as i am is this guy who’s llike our team’s sasuke who is infamous for wanting to kill many dads (M18) and he says we should kill my dad. but obviously i don’t wanna do that. i did all of this so i wouldn’t have to lose family ever again and now i’m feel like i’n abpt to lose him forever. i know things can get better for us but we’ll nevr have the chance if he dies yknow?
anyways i always had such a hard time controlling my emotions and i’m scared i’m letting my emotions get the best of me again cause if i really cared abt this i’d be willing to do whatever it takes to make things right yknow? but i don’t want my dad to die. so maybe i AM being selfish. maybe ppl really ARE happy and i’m just being paranoid and irrational like everyone said i was. maybe we should be putting this up to a vote, idk
please give it to me straight (cause i’m not!!!! LMAO),
AITA?

People have been waxing up and down walls about this submarine thing and it feels stupid to add to the debate but I'm gonna do it anyway because I have a perspective on the whole thing that I want to elaborate on
I am celebrating. I recognize that it is morbid to celebrate a human being's death, and many people have been wringing their hands talking about how they don't support the idea of billionaires but they don't want them to die!
Do you know why I want billionaires to die?
It's because they have removed themselves from any other god damn consequense on Earth. There's nothing we can do! We can't take their money, it's in investments. We can't burn their house down, they have the money for every security measure on earth, and even if we could, they'll buy a new one and it won't even make a dent in their economy - nothing is irreplaceable. We can't lobby, we can't vote, at every corner, they're there, pumping more money into getting to keep their money. We can't jail them (prisons are backwards and should be abolished but that's another talk) and we can't take their stuff. We can't take their stuff!! That's the whole point! There is a reason the phrase "having more money than god" speaks to me so much. They have left the perils that us mortals still have to weasel through, they have made it to some fucking abstract, intouchable godhood where nothing we mere mortals can do will touch them. They have barred off every consequense they could possibly suffer, they have made sure we have no way to touch them.
The only lasting consequense left for these people is death. That's the only denominator that they haven't managed to buy their way out of - though they're trying, with advanced healthcare that only they can afford, and, y'know, having access to clean water and healthy food and living in places that aren't subsceptible to natural disasters. These people even could have bested the uncaring crushing weight of the ocean if they had been willing to pour the proper amount of money into it - their undoing was, in fact, to not use enough money to make a proper submersible!
So anyway.
These people have been killing, hoarding, abusing, and destroying countless lives on their way to be excempt from every consequense that could possibly touch them.
I am celebrating because I want billionaires to suffer consequenses for their actions. And these people have put themselves in a situation where the only lasting consequense they can suffer is death. It is the first and only stairstep. The world is the dog that they have taught not to growl as a warning, to not snap as a warning, to not raise its bristles as a warning. The world is the dog that is not allowed to show any warning signs. The world is - we are - the dog that has been given no choice but to suffer, quietly, unobstructively, and more and more and more, forever - our only other choice is to maul. And then get punished for it.
So when I see a bunch of billionaires pay obscene amounts of money to willingly be put into their billionaire buddy's homemade saw trap and it closes on them, I am going to fucking celebrate. When something that they cannot punish, such as the crusing weight of the North Atlantic Ocean, finally makes it so that just a few of these people are no longer intouchable? Then I am going to fucking celebrate. And I'll continue to celebrate for as long as it takes. Until they take the growling seriously and learn to stop pulling my fur.

hi plea deals should not include sobriety requirements unless the person is also provided with the resources that would allow them to feasibly do so and even then, is an incredibly problematic requirement to place on someone in order to allow them to stay out of prison
“you can only stay out of prison if you sober up” is fucked up because:
sobriety is not for everyone. it is one possible addiction management strategy, but it’s not the only one
even those who desire sobriety don’t necessarily have the resources to do so
AGAIN, even if you want to be sober, the pressure of “or you’ll go to prison” is not conducive to long-term recovery
the state should not be involved in someone’s addiction recovery
also abolish prisons
anyway, it is beyond fucked that sobriety requirements are relatively common parts of plea deals. fills me with rage that it’s seen as a normal thing for the “justice” system to impose on someone
