your lashes flutter as the morning sun beats down on you. entwined in your sheets, you flip your body over. when your exposed limbs leave the warmth of the thick blanket, goosebumps arise.

sitting up from your position, your oversized shirt slips down your left shoulder. you gently rubbed your eyes before searching the left side of the bed; his side of the bed. no wonder it was cold, aki hayakawa was not laying next to you.

you untangled yourself from your blankets and were about to stand on the cold, wooden floor when the door opened. you looked up at your lover, who had quite a large tray in his hand.

“you’re awake,” he stated, setting the tray at your bedside table.

“that i am,” you replied in your morning voice.

smoothly, you reached out to the black-haired man and pulled him close by the arm. your lips met his, and he did not fail to reciprocate the kiss he was receiving. he gently held your right cheek as he did so.

“despite how much i’d love to continue with you, you have something to eat.”

aki pulled away from you with one last peck on your lips. you followed his eyes to the tray that carried your favorite breakfast. next to your food was also a single rose in a tall, thin glass.

he picked it out of the glass, letting the water drip, before handing it to you, “happy valentine’s day, my love.”

you smiled at him, “happy valentine’s day.”

if there’s anything [name] has learned while dating inumaki toge, it would be to never leave him for too long.

they had a mission and as a full-fledged grade one sorcerer, they were granted to go alone. the mission took a week long between the investigation and the fighting, a long week it was.

upon [name]’s arrival to the school, their first thought was to clean themself before seeing everyone else. they showered and cleaned themself up, also deciding to wait in their dorm since everyone else was currently out.

what [name] didn’t expect was for inumaki to come into the room. when he saw his partner sitting on their bed, he just stood in the doorway and blinked.

“toge! you guys are back? i didn’t even notice. wait, how did you know i was in my dorm?”

what they didn’t expect for their boyfriend to do was silently climb over them on the bed and bury his cheek into their stomach— right over where their heart was.

with his ear, inumaki listened and felt [name]’s heart thump at a constant rate. it was a reassurance that he wasn’t seeing things or in dreamland. this was real.

“hey,” [name]’s hand brushed through inumaki’s hair while he smiled, “i’m back.”

their fingers gently traced down his bare arm, which was free of sleeves because geto wore a black tank top. the light touches were giving the noirette goosebumps.

this elicited a giggle from [name], who joked, “is my touch that electrifying?”

“maybe so,” geto played along his cheek gently rubbing against theirs.

to get back at [name], geto grazed his own fingers against their back. they straightened up as their arms held geto a bit tighter.

“a tease, are we?”

“i wonder who started it, [name].”

knights protected people, and that’s what was being asked of fushiguro. it was your job as sorcerers to protect people but you guys had a goal you needed to reach.

“you ask like i’m not here,” you frowned.

remi kept her fingers crossed, “well he seems like he can get the job done. it’s one thing for another, no?”

“don’t underestimate her, one,” fushiguro defended you and unknowingly made your heart flutter at the compliment, “and two, okay, whatever. we’re in a hurry so walk in front of us.”

“we’re really going to help… her,” you pouted.

fushiguro patted your head, “we don’t have the luxury of choosing right now.”

you puffed your cheeks and said in a small voice, “fine…”
