On October 4, at about 2:20pm Eastern Standard Time (EST), FEMA is doing an emergency alert test. This means that all phones, regardless of if they have been placed in do not disturb will go off with that beeping noise. If you have a secret backup phone that you need the people you're with to not know you have, set a reminder to turn it all the way off.

For apple phones, this means holding the power button for five seconds and swiping the "power off" switch that shows up on the screen. Same with androids and early google pixels, except you'll be tapping a button. For google pixels 6 and later, you'll hold the power button and the volume up button at the same time. To turn on for all phones, you'll hit the power button and wait a sec.

Remember that the alert will still come through when you turn your phone back on, so make sure that you are in a place where that noise is safe.

Note that, for whatever reason, if they can't put out the alert, the backup test date is October 11th.

reblogging so many cowpokeprose/maybecowboycore posts because, while searching for an old post of theirs (honey you're golden), i found out they'd changed handles and then deleted maybe a year or so ago. still haven't found the one i want to find, but i'm reblogging and screenshotting a lot of the ones i find along the way so i've at least got them stored. i don't know the motivation behind the deletion, so i don't know if my efforts are wanted, but i do know something that mattered a lot to me is a form of lost media now.

phone settings: there's several modes you can activate where you get less intrusive notifications!

me, has spent an hour going through settings to eradicate all unnecessary notifications and made the necessary ones as unobtrusive as possible: nah im good

Why are the only 2 options for new phones nowadays:

World's most expensive slab of glass that costs more than a new laptop. Has one single port and the screen is the size of your head. The next model will have a screen on the side to remove all of the buttons and will reduce the thickness of the glass, both for the sake of sleekness and fashion (and money). The glass will crack upon a slight gust of wind but the adhesive holding the phone together is the famed immovable object of legend. The model after that will be as if the monolith from 2001 a space odyssey had screens on every surface, the charging port is obsolete since it can all be done through induction (the hot new trend). It's the camera for the photographer who is deathly afraid of buttons and dials present on real cameras. Don't worry guys we're removing features for your own good. If you try to repair it yourself you will be killed through our patented DontTry™ technology installed in every device.

The same price as a decent SD card and the absolute lowest quality slop they could push out of the factory. The phone equivalent of a pug, struggles to run its own OS (go edition of course). When idling with nothing but the home screen running the cpu is rivalling the heat output of a miserable old macbook forced to run the sims. Its hardware specs are somehow worse than a flagship released NINE (9) years ago. The screen genuinely hurts to look at if not using a jig to perfectly align it with your head (portrait only, no landscape video unless you want to turn it into the migrane machine). Has both a headphone jack and sometimes a user replaceable battery. Micro B charging port means that no one will Disappear your charging cables. Sometimes come in fun form factors. Cannot scan a QR code no matter how much you try. Absolutely zero technical information available online. Would probably run okay if it wasn't forced to have android 10+ installed. Immune to damage from getting dropped (back flies off, battery falls out).

Today has been a bit of a day tbh but as well as buying my mum a phone I'm doing a sort of trial with an s23 ultra to see if I like it.

I asked the customer support about their return policy and just not liking the phone is a valid reason to return it so I have 2 weeks to see what I think. They'll just accept the return with no fuss for a full cash refund. No store credit or any such nonsense xD

My first thoughs so far is that phones haven't really changed much since my last phone the note 10 plus. Like it's a little faster, the battery is a bit bigger, and the camera is better but that kinda seems to be it at this point.

The s-pen is supposed to be more responsive but I pretty much exclusively use my phones pen to play picross xD If I ever try to get into art again I'd use my s7 tablet just for the bigger screen so that's not too important to me.

Something Duncan and Topher have in common is that they both spent some of their time between challenges trying to steal Chris's wallet.

The flights between destinations are so long and boring sometimes that Duncan would sneak into Chris's room on the jet to swipe it off his desk.

Topher tried to steal the wallet at the same time he nabbed the phone, but was only half successful.
