A Quick Look at all Games on the Kruidvat Famiclone (Part 3)

I live for this shit, as John Justice would say. Despite not really finding myself too motivated to make blogs at the moment, this dinky ass handheld keeps calling my name. Regardless of it's extremely cheap build quality, I find myself extremely charmed with the design, some of the bootlegs and the Kruidvat packaging. Junk food gaming at it's finest.

#017 - Fairy 2001

Behold, a game I actually played in remade form! Dunno how you could spin 'Blaster Master' into 'Fairy', but hey, at least I recognise a lot about this game. Blaster Master Zero's first level is really close to the original's.

A giant 'Let's Go!' replaces the visual of Jason going out on his mission, way to make the story more interesting. This Fred censorship will not be tolerated.

Sophia looks like a turtle, shooting angry blue guys whilst the music is the original being flipped upside down. Now this is a new high of weird edits in bootlegs. Even comes included with the puke colors this system appears to use for all their more elaborate junk.

#018 - Happy Angel

Legend, as the game calls it, features a happy Teletubby, a pensive Teletubby and a winking Teletubby as they attempt to rescue Babs Bunny from blue Mickey Mouses. ...Did a 12 year old sneeze on Wattpad and make a game from it or something?

Good game by the way, would like to try Tiny Toon Adventures in non-fucked up form someday.

#019 - Inclement Trip

More like InCREment Trip, as you start this hack of Super Spy Hunter on level 2 instead of level 1. If you like having a power trip (hahaaaaaaaaaaa), you play as a guy in a jetpack blowing up all kinds of vehicles, including cars and helicopters.

#020 - Raider

Another Famicom hack which is neat, this time it's Saint Seiya that gets a hilarious Engrish translation. With the heroes Bik (hello Jerome), Roal, Mier (Dutch for ant) and Dum (the only playable female??? Nice sexism guys) in tow, you first play through a level.

Once you got that figured out, some random soldier tells you 'You haven't enough power,go!'. Displeased as you are of course, you yell 'Die to shame!' back as you duke it out in a tutorial battle. Which according to the soldier, is 'too absurd' and 'now unallowed!'. Pfft, laws, am I right.

#021 - Rosker

Oh ye gods, it's spreading. Now you play as Mario with a TELETUBBY HEAD. The Teletubbies on the title screen also have 'Y2K' on their chest, which only makes it scarier. The first boss is a frickin' Star Wars sandworm. Creepypasta games before creepypastas existed, huh?

The realisation that this is a hack of Joe & Mac settles in when you get rewarded for your efforts in the list of 'Best Cavemen'. Thanks, I know i'm ooga booga.

#022 - Soldier-Boy

This soldier boy is gonna partake in some Wacky Races. While looking more like a karateka than a soldier. Can karate moves be used in a war I wonder? Most early enemies are pink sludges and SMB3's Nipper Plants if they grew legs.

#023 - Space Soldier

Holy sh*t, Roal has returned! He has been called into action as planets suffer from severe climate issues like consuming storms or weirdies!!!! The Cock asks the amazing space soldier to eggwalk, which he (or she apparently, there's a female portrait in use the one time we see them up close) gladly obliges to.

Infamously, this Bucky O'Hare hack kills you when an enemy hits you even once. That's because of an anti-piracy gimmick by Konami, as the title screen got changed up a bunch, like you would expect them to.

#024 - Storm-1

Do I even need to say anything? This is peak. Cowards won't allow there to be an episode of Tiny Toon Adventures where Buster is a stoner and loses his marbles.

Haiku Funeral

This was another pretty fun bargain bin pickup.

First disc is creepy blackened darkwave that sounds almost like Front 242 remixing the one super dorky Bethlehem album ("Schatten aus Alxender Welt" I think it was called) which for whatever reason has always been a guilty pleasure of mine.

Second disc is gooey ritual ambient with cool tribal-ish rhythms, and probably my favorite of the two because it sounds like something Rozz Williams might have puked out after doing a ton of peyote.

2xCD, cost me about three bucks, can't argue with that.

A Quick Look at all Games on the Kruidvat Famiclone (Part 1)

Due to popular demand and a seemingly large amount of people in my circle who like Famiclones (myself included), this seems like the right time to go ahead and take a look at all 248 titles included.

Not all of them have a ton of substance, but believe me, there's some real funny sh*t coming up that you're gonna love.

I must admit, I actually kinda dig it's design. It does not feel that bad and the screen is rather crisp. Not 'high resolution' like it says on the box, god no, it even includes an AV cable like many of these cheapo knickknacks do. But on a system this small, that's not awful.

And lookie here, it's even got these lit sides when you boot it on! Kinda neat, though I wonder if it's not just a factory fault haha. Onto the meat and potatoes of this thing, the libraryyyy... Gameplay included whenever I can find it.

#001 - Enchanter Kue

A hack of Snow Bros. I like how the title screen is this caveman guy in some kinda desert. Even better is that the story sequence is a still image (no text included) that lasts for 30 seconds, before swapping over to the same cavemen sprite but he's PISSED.

Instead of the music being rather mellow, it sounds like an epic ninja battle. Sure, ninja battles where you turn monsters with weird ass palettes into rocks. And there's no real ninja in sight.

#002 - Super Fighter

A hack of Super C. Not a lot to say about this one, it still plays fine on this little thing. The backgrounds look like SMW Central ROM hack rejects with bad palettes and graphical cutoff everywhere. Exactly what I love!

#003 - Boxing Circles Overlord

A hack of the Japanese version of Double Dragon III. The intro cutscene has some amazingly written dialogue as a result. I found no video of this one, but you get such classics as 'Pitiful John who was in an abyss of suffering', trust me on this. And that John looks like a troll. Why would this national hero called G. Mira even wanna rescue him?

#004 - Baresark

Is- Is that a total destruction of the word 'Berserk'?? This hack of, err, SD Hero Soukessen - Taose! Aku no Gundan, starts off great as Bomberman and a toaster get kidnapped by a floating head.

'Come on boy' and 'go' the game prompts you to pick a character, no, a BOB, most of whom look either completely pink or completely blue. Nice genders. No matter what ''BOB'' you pick, you'll end up swapping characters whenever you pick up random objects off the floor.

This is the type of game where the context is completely lost on me, and honestly, I want it to stay that way.

#005 - FU-3 Firebolt

A ROM hack of S.C.A.T. Plays remarkably well on this dumb thing. The palettes are once again puke-worthy. Apparently the main character, who looks suspiciously like Samus, turns into Pikachu later on as that was what they looked like in an earlier revision of the ROM hack. Magic of bootlegs, everyone.

O-oh and the cutscenes appear to be skipped instantly, so you can start blasting instantly.

#006 - Elf Legend

Hooboy, where do I even BEGIN with this one. It's a ROM hack of Chip 'n Dale 2 for one. Wacky ass 1994 release.

We boot up the game and

...Sentence is over. Po and Charmander, sorry 'John and Pika', are waiting to beat you up. And then you get to the intro sequence, which is deserving of a brief highlight reel in itself.

The Pikachu knockoff is the sad remains of my fair lady Gadget. So sad...

I was supposed to post a photo of Mario being mentioned but I didn't get it on time. Really getting the band back together with big IPs are we?

Ain't this a game name that makes you scream 'OOOOAGH'? I know I can't resist. This is a bootleg *of a bootleg*, if you can believe it. Though can you really call it a different game if all that's changed is some title screen graphics?

#008 - X-War

A ROM hack of... Silkworm? That's a game that exists? Apparently it starts you off at a much later level, so no wonder I keep dying at the first moments of gameplay. Unsurprisingly, cutscenes are cut. Such a shame. Wanted to see how John did stuff in this game.

In conclusion

I love it. 10/10 machine for humor value alone.
